  1. Makes sense. That line "He is what we made him to be, old friend" is written in such a way to leave it ambiguous... on purpose, I'm sure.
  2. I have a feeling that... "He bears the weight of God's own divine hatred, separated from the virtues that gave it context. He is what we made him to be, old friend. And that is what he, unfortunately, wished to become." ...indicates that Hoid (and the dragon) had a hand in selecting who got what shard (however that process worked). It's probably a primary motivation of Hoid's quest to fix things. In terms of the process of who got what shard... I can't imagine it's going to be as rudimentary as "you seem Preserve-y, you take Preservation." Will be interesting to see that play out.
  3. I've been thinking that the orientation of Urithiru was on purpose and has to do with those outer gardens being a place to leave stuff for investing by the highstorm.
  4. BS doesn't seem to think this will be rewritten/published recently.
  5. Wasn't sure where to put this exactly, but I think the biggest hint that Iyatil's origins or identity is her statement to Shallan: Clearly she is from somewhere where people obscure their features. Nothing rings a bell, but I think focusing on this statement will lead us to some hints. It could be Roshar or another world. She doesn't strike me as similar to Khriss. The Vin theory seems to match the best... but for some reason, I don't think Brandon would bring Vin back.
  6. I don't think Dragonsteel is 7 books anymore. From SF signing: Note he also calls Dragonsteel a prequel. Kind of hard to pin down his specific plans for these books currently. Used to be Liar duology + Dragonsteel five books = 7. No idea what he is considering to be the 3.
  7. Hmm I wonder if Ryshadium are horses bonded with spren? PS I've read White Sand and I have no idea who Hoid was, but I'm curious why BS just randomly asked the three-fingered Irishman about it.
  8. That's sort of the part that confuses me. Also, WOB was that the Shattering doesn't take place in Dragonsteel. Aside from my other questions, I'm wondering what the purpose of Dragonsteel will be. Seeing Shards taken by Yolens sometime after the Shattering? With all the focus on SA, Mistborn trilogies, and sequels, I'm also wondering where the other 7 or so Shards will find time to shine? Will they get books we know absolutely nothing about? Or will they show up in the space opera Mistborn?
  9. Is Dragonsteel a prequel to all the events in the cosmere? Will the 3rd Mistborn Trilogy be the finale of the cosmere? Will all Shards be featured in their own books/stories before cosmere finale?
  10. I still maintain this relates to Ashyn/The Silence Divine being in Roshar's sky.
  11. In chapter 63, "A Burning World," when Shallan visits 'Taln,' she begins to use her lightweaving and he reacts with: Shouldn't Lightweavers be founded by Shalash? Or is he referring to Knights Radiant as a whole?
  12. Two variations of a question: - Is Nazh writing to someone on Roshar? - Is Nazh writing to Khriss? Not sure which one will yield the best results. Honestly if he says either yes or no to first question, can still ask second question.
  13. I've never seen actual confirmation about the WOK letter recipient/WOR letter author being a dragon. There seems to be only one reference to this and it was a "a friend told me BS said this at a signing," IIRC. So can we get an actual confirmation on this question from a WOR signing?
  14. So there is a clearly a mistake here and I'd like to try to get the actual mistake clarified. Silence Divine takes place on Ashyn. We have never heard that there is no shard on this planet. In fact, Cultivation could very well be hanging out there currently. Shadows for Silence.. takes place on Threnody. We were told previously that this planet doesn't have a shard. So, it appears that Brandon thought the question was about Shadows for Silence... not that he gave mistaken details about Silence Divine. My main reason for hashing this out is that we shouldn't rule out the presence of a shard (Cultivation) on Ashyn, right?
  15. I'd forgot about Ym and his spren. That does through a wrinkle into the single gender for a spren idea. Ym must be a Truthwatcher, after all.
  16. It appears that the male/female split in a Nahel bond is not really necessary, despite the opposite genders of Sly (Kaladin), Pattern (Shallan), and Ivory (Jasnah). I found it quite curious that when Dalinar was elevated to Bondsmith, that The Stormfather (a male-seeming spren) would be serving as Dalinar's spren in their Nahel bond (albeit a very cantankerous spren). And then, it was followed up right away with the revelation that Renarin's spren, Glys, is also male. Should we understand from this that gender is either fairly fluid for spren or that the gender doesn't matter? Or perhaps that each type of spren is a certain gender? All honorspren are female, all cryptics are male?
  17. That's very excellent news since Brandon never comes to northern Ohio
  18. I love reading analysis from someone who clearly has a science background. It takes something I just passed over without a thought in the text and makes it much more interesting. All of this suggests to me that the moons are actually artificial. Roshar has a very... strange... relationship with technology that is hard to relate to, but it seems quite within the realm of possibility that the moons were made and placed into orbit, maybe for observation, maybe as bases.
  19. As much as I like Whelan's WOK cover and respect him generally.... that Chinese cover is unbelievably amazing. Can't wait to see what they come up with the series as it goes on.
  20. Oh it was a little late is all. They've been so timely that once I didn't get it by 5 after, I assumed wrong. Cool to know they are truly daily. Fwiw, I'm in the someone-addressing-Hoid camp on this one, possibly as a reply to the letter. It would be cool if everyone book contains a letter between Hoid and the other-possibly-dragon.
  21. We think we've sighted 9 Heralds? I've been missing some Herald discussion somewhere… could someone point me in the right direction of a thread?
  22. That's really cool to hear. I hope the iBooks version would have these color pages as well. My only complaint about the iBooks version of WOK is that the art doesn't fill the page and the resolution is a bit too lower to zoom in much.
  23. Brandon posted some photos on Facebook. - Shallan's end pages are in front (double page) - A (new/different/updated) modern era Roshar map is the back (double page) endpaper. So THAT's cool.
  24. ebook/ebook I've always liked having the physical thing, but as I've acquired more books and moved apartments a couple times, the iPad is a godsend. Having a whole library in one small object is just fantastic. Its way easier to hold than a 1000+ hardback behemoth, too. Search ability is an unexpected bonus. Caveat: artwork is compromised… rarely do you get a full page cover let alone endpapers, and all the included artwork is smaller than the screen and is sometimes hard to read. I originally bought WOK physically, but snagged the ebook when it was on sale. Just finished a reread using the ebook, my first time reading WOK digitally, and I do miss the feel and look of the artwork pages.
