I don't know why it just occurred to me but it seems likely that the flashbacks of arc 2 will be events within that 15 year gap. I'm guessing the end of book 5 kicks off a long slog of global fighting brought about by Diagram, etc.

Excellent, thank you! I knew it wasn't Hoid, but I didn't realize he confirmed it was a 17th Shard member. I'm pretty sure we've figured out the author's identity, but it's nice to know that person is 17th Shard (and by extension Nazh).

While I think it's pretty solid within the text that Nazh is working for the AA author, I haven't seen anything that says she (the AA author) works for 17th Shard. Is there WOB for this?

New Szeth Shirt [Words of Radiance Spoilers]
masaru replied to Newan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Fun Fact: Immediately after reading Words of Radiance, I emailed Kara @ BS Store and suggested they do a shirt with this quote on it. She loved it and said she would pass it on. Not saying you should all thank me.... but I am saying IT'S AWESOME!!! The 8 Bit design is great.- 27 replies

masaru replied to Seonid's topic in Events and Signings
I wouldn't mind a tease or two... is there a lot of good new information? -

I'm kind of surprised at the lack of information from SLC. -

I'm still interested in these. Might be RAFO (especially #1) but he may throw us a bone on them. 1. Can Nazh world hop or does he travel between worlds by other means? 2. Is Nazh seen in Shadows for Silence? 3. When in the Cosmere timeline do Shadows for Silence and White Sand take place? -
I asked: 1. Can Nazh world hop or does he travel between worlds by other means? 2. Is Nazh seen in Shadows for Silence? 3. When in the Cosmere timeline do Shadows for Silence and White Sand take place?

Nazh working for Khriss is confirmed. So...summing up: Ars Arcanum is written by Khriss, of Taldain (White Sand), with research assistance from Nazh, of Threnody (Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell). My questions would be: 1. Can Nazh world hop or does he travel between worlds by other means? 2. Is Nazh seen in Shadows for Silence? 3. When in the Cosmere timeline do Shadows for Silence and White Sand take place? (I put these in the Ultimate Questions thread, too)

Oh, great... another bug hunt. Hmm. I'd say we need to be on the lookout for a dark-skinned woman taking notes. Unless BS was giving a devilish smile while he said the above, it's likely a pretty minor appearance, without speaking lines.

Honestly, Hoid's universal translator is kind of a let down for me. It seems like a massive cop-out. I always assumed that Hoid was just not caring about careful regarding language specific words. Which kind of fits his character more.

Qs and As from the London signing
masaru replied to Sabrina Stormshard's topic in Events and Signings
Research scientist, ars arcanum author... same thing. I feel like we've heard the thing about "Frost" before, and what he is, and what he has written. Like, say, a certain Letter to Hoid. -
Well, dang. That shut me up. As for Nazh getting off Threnody... perhaps Khriss picked him up in her spaceship. I'm more than half serious.
-
Oh...I think you should.
-
I'm not sure I would take the audiobook's voice choice as canon, but I'm pretty convinced the Ars Arcanum is written by Khriss. It's a scholarly work and she is the most cosmere aware character. Obviously she is using research that Nazh gathers for her.
-
So Nazh being from Threnody has been confirmed. I guess our next task is to 1) ask if he is in Shadows for Silence and 2) find him.
-
In general, I would agree with the ending being a bit anticlimactic. I enjoyed reading about the culture and world, and loved that this must be the most modern timeframe we've seen in the Cosmere. Spaceships! But the resolution just kind of happened without the "hero" doing anything particularly. I'll throw in a vote for it being related to the Survival shard. SPECULATION: the entire time I was wondering if Vathi is Khriss doing some Ars Arcanum research on another world. She is described as dark-skinned, and has a very similar personality to what is shown in White Sand. And that's probably all I should really say.

Writing Excuses Anthology title: "Shadows Beneath"
masaru replied to masaru's topic in Cosmere Discussion
All my dreams come true! Honestly I was so surprised it hadn't been seen or known, but it doesn't seem to appear in the store if you navigate through it. Sooooo hopefully the team isn't bugged we scooped them! -
Writing Excuses Anthology title: "Shadows Beneath"
masaru replied to masaru's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hey cool! Guess I should have just made it a new topic anyways but I felt a little unsure of how approved the info was. Can't wait for this. Looks like July 3rd! -
Sixth of the Dusk is at 100% "proofs" stage on the Brandon-o-meter. Made me curious about the anthology release so I googled "writing excuses anthology" and came up with this: http://store.brandonsanderson.com/shadows-beneath-writing-excuses-anthology/ Exciting! Wasn't sure if the title had been announced yet.

Let's just buy all these phone calls and grill Brandon methodically on this list. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/altered-perceptions/contributions/new?perk_amt=75&perk_id=2015059

Regarding the bit that is under spoiler in the transcription...

As I said in the Compiled WOB thread, I think this answers the author question pretty well:
-
Yeah....that kind of settles Khriss (from White Sand) as the author of the Ars Arcanum in my mind.
