  1. Here is a quote that says multiple Feruchemists can store in the same piece of metal. I imagine that the medallions work after a similar fashion. Unless one person were to blank their Identity while storing their weight, I don't believe that a second person who used the medallion would be able to tap the other person's weight, because it probably is keyed to their Identity. I could be wrong though, since medallion tech is kind of weird and we don't understand it completely yet.
  2. Maybe, that'd be pretty interesting idea. But something that specific might only be possible if you were a Bondsmith or if you could somehow else sense, understand, and take specific Connections without a bunch of extra stuff along with it. I think Hemalurgy is pretty cool, but it does have some limitations.
  3. Well, I think that this quote will also help reinforce my idea.
  4. I was trying to find a quote for another thread I was making when I stumbled upon this. . . So, one thing that I was thinking about was that Hemalurgy would still have an edge over Unsealed Metalmind tech in that you can get a spike, then use the power associated with it as long as you continue to have that spike; ran out of Feruchemical stores? No problem, just store some more. No more metal to burn? Just go grab some more; you're still an Allomancer because you've got that spike. But now, is sounds like you may be able to not use up a Unsealed Metalmind's nicrosil power when you use it. Which is super, duper important, if you ask me. Although, maybe I got this wrong. Maybe I'm extrapolating too much from this little quote. This is also probably not that world changing, but can someone please tell me I'm not crazy?
  5. In the Cosmere, Identity is a unique attribute held by an entity that separates it’s investiture from another entity’s investiture, such as with a Feruchemist’s Metalminds. However, I believe that Identity has more meaning than simply keying your investiture to you. I think that it acts as a natural separation form other spiritwebs, a natural defense from other’s control over you. We’ve seen multiple beings in the Cosmere that don’t have an Identity, and both of them can be controlled pretty easily by external influence; the Slaveform Singers and the Lifeless. Lifeless probably also have something else going on that makes them able to be controlled by others (their Awakened Commands), but here is a WoB that says if a Lifeless were to tap certain Metalminds, they may not stay a Lifeless. . . With the Slaveform Singers, they just do what anyone says without resisting. I believe the reason for this is that the natural Connection that is possessed by their human slavers can “dominate” them without much resistance. It would be a similar situation to a Connector Ferring dominating a Hemalurgic construct with an enhanced version of their natural attribute of Connection, only instead of having holes left in the soul by Hemalurgic spikes, it’s that the Singers don’t have any separating attribute in the first place. Having a higher intelligence and strength of will would likely allow them to resist control, but in many cases of mind control it seems like the targets are of only simple intelligence, which makes controlling them easy. It seems as though your Identity also has an influence on your state of mind, as we can see with Listeners and Singers who take different forms, so blanking your Identity may leave you feeling with significantly reduced motivation or emotion in general. It may be possible to Feruchemically enhance your own Identity and make yourself less susceptible to outside influence, or you may be able to more easily manipulate someone actively storing it. This theory may have some holes in it, but this is how I understand it now. Thanks for reading
  6. If you mean on screen, then no, I don't believe we have. I think it might be that if you had a special connection to the cognitive realm on another world, such as Scadrial, you probably would still have a backward shadow since one of the all encompassing effects across all (at least Scadrial and Roshar, anyway) subastrals is that certain things are inverted. It is the cognitive realm though, so the perception of the natives might be able to change it to some degree.
  7. Probably. But still, it would be significantly "cheaper" to do this instead of compounding Atium for youth (if you remove the whole "probably need to kill someone to make it work" aspect). Plus, it probably won't get less efficient over time as with Atium-granted youth.
  8. Here are the confirmed Bondsmith powers that I know of. 1. Bondsmiths can see the Connections of someone they touch. 2. They can make new Connections or remove previously existing Connections and give those to themselves or someone else. This allows them to learn others' languages instantly or to potentially steal spren bonds. 3. They can see into someone's past by viewing their Connections. 4. They can summon a perpendicularity at will, no outside investiture required. 5. They can create life-like visions. We’ve seen Dalinar look at Nale’s past, so perhaps it is possible to look at someone else’s future or to look at your own past or future with Bondsmith powers. You likely couldn't see someone else's future during a fight as it seems to require physical contact, but you might be able to see your own future similar to Allomantic electrum. We've probably already see Ishar doing this with considerable skill when he fought Dalinar, I would venture to guess. This quote says that you might be able to make yourself immortal by manipulating Connection, and I suspect that Bondsmiths could therefore grant this ability, as well as providing something akin to the Oathpact and it’s powers of immortality. It seems likely that a Bondsmith could cut off a magic user from their investiture by removing their Connection to their Shard, perhaps even magic users who aren't bonded to a spren, as all uses of magic (except for fabrials) require a Connection to a Shard as far as I know. A Bondsmith could perhaps edit spiritwebs by removing, adding, and moving around their natural Connections to places, people, and times. Honestly, they might not have the raw combat potential of a Fullborn, or have the many benefits of holding the 10th Heightening, but if half of these hypothetical abilities turn out to be achievable, then they are very, VERY powerful if they play their cards right.
  9. I found these quotes in the Arcanum. So it sounds that by changing your Identity you can make "minor" alterations to your physical form, and it will also make some alterations to your mental faculties, though your memories and your core personality will remain intact. This won't let you grow extra limbs, switch biological sex (probably; I'm not totally sure on that one), or change species, but I can still see uses for it's manipulation. Perhaps you could, therefore, get a Singer to fill their Identity into an Unsealed Metalmind while wearing a specific form, which would allow a human to tap it and gain access to that form. Or perhaps Scadrial and other worlds could use this method for cosmetic purposes; hire attractive and healthy individuals to store their Identity, then use compounding to mass produce Unsealed Identity Minds for those who can afford it.
  10. I recently read this quote, and the bold part got me thinking... Hemalurgic duralumin can steal Connection. What if you removed your own Connection, then healed just enough to leave a scare over your spiritweb, then granted yourself another duralumin spike containing the Connection of someone young as well as possibly another small source of investiture to replace the removed innate investiture that contained your Connection. Could this be a somewhat vampiric method of maintaining biological immortality? What's more, you could likely repeat this process whenever you started to grow old, and it would not grow less efficient since it's not actively fighting against your natural age, it's replacing it.
  11. Rock when he sees Kaladin come for the nightly stew: This is new recipe; it is chicken stew. Is good, now eat up, airsick lowlander"
  12. Guess it's a good thing that I love to eat chicken
  13. There are multiple quotes I was able to find on the Arcanum regarding this topic. I have put them in order of oldest going first, and having the most resent one on the bottom. So a Kandra wouldn't be immune to a shardblade, but they would be able to heal from wounds caused by them, and I suspect that they would be able to survive being cut through major parts of their body so long as a large enough portion of them remains intact. Additionally, they could likely play dead once the shardbearer attacked them, then heal later, assuming they survive, of course.
  14. Welcome to the 17th Shard! The thing about Feruchemy is that there isn't really a true limit to how much you can compress an attribute, though you do need to worry about running out of investiture stored in your metalminds as they come from your own self sacrifice. Compounding breaks that limitation of having only a small pool of investiture to draw on, however, which is kind of it's whole deal. So, you could see very, very far, assuming that you compound and store enough investiture, and theoretically if you tap enough you'll peer directly into the spiritual realm.
  15. As someone who thinks about how interesting and diverse the system of Hemalurgy is, I have tried on multiple occasions to figure out ways to overcome it's limitations. In order to do that most effectively though, we would have to know what causes this problem in the first place. Unfortunately, we don't know what it is for certain yet, but here are some theories I and others came up with. 1. (this particular theory was made by the 17th Sharder, Pathfinder) The Identity of the spiritweb held within the Hemalurgic spikes causes damage to the spiritweb of the recipient because their own Identity isn't compatible with that of the donor. 2. The holes created in your spiritweb by Hemalurgic spikes are a fundamental requirement of how the powers get stapled into you own spiritweb; you need a hole in your soul in order to shove another piece of someone else's soul in there. 3. It is Ruin's own investiture that causes the damage, and is a fundamental part of how that investiture works. If the damage done to one's soul is caused by conflicting Identity, you could blank the Identity of the donor before their power was taken. Easier said than done, as the only practical method of doing this is with their consent, but if you could grant them four or more Hemalurgic spikes, then use emotional Allomancy to control them, you could then force them to blank their Identity so that you can spike them. If the Hemalurgic weakness is caused by it needing to be a hole in your soul to grant access to the power, then you could follow similar steps as with the Identity theory, but then Allomantically burn the spike to grant you that power permanently without needing you pierce your soul with a foreign piece of spiritweb. This has some assumptions tied to it, as we don't know for certain that splicing your spiritweb with someone else's through this method will grant you their power. If it really is Ruin's own investiture that is causing the problem...that's pretty difficult to deal with, seeing as how standard Hemalurgy is all tied to his investiture. However, you might be able to replicate a Hemalurgic charge with Selish Forgery, which would be powered by the Dor, not Ruin, so it might be a functional workaround. The amount of investiture within the art of Forgery isn't naturally big though, so you'd have to solve that problem, and you'd still have to deal with the location limitation. Not only that, but it might be the case that using Forgery to replicate a Hemalurgic charge would actually draw on Ruin's investiture (though it's pretty unlikely, who knows what could happen when dealing with magic system hacking like this?), which would make this method ineffective when dealing with this theory's workings. Does anyone else have any theories on why Hemalurgy causes damage to your spiritweb, and how to fix it?
  16. Found it.
  17. Kandra have their brain matter scattered throughout their bodies. I'll have to fetch the quote when I can get on my laptop.
  18. Thank you for clearing that up By the way, I really like your theory on how it's the conflicting Identity of what's in the Hemalurgic spike and the recipient's spiritweb, and that being what causes the damage to your spiritweb. Would you mind if I included it in a post I'm planning on making about theories as to why Hemalurgy causes damage to the soul?
  19. You guys are right that medallion tech is going to become better than Hemalurgy in the long run, I suppose. I merely enjoy thinking about realistic ways to improve a magic system's use in Sanderson's books, and figure out ways to use it creatively. I'm not trying to say that Hemalurgy is superior to Unsealed Metalminds in all aspects, I'm just trying to come up with new ways to use Hemalurgy more effectively.
  20. I'm now off of work, and was able to find the quote on my laptop. Here you go! Yes, it was mentioned by Wax in The Bands of Mourning that if he compounded he could recharge the Bands, so I it is certainly possible to refill an Unsealed Metalmind if you have access to nicrosil compounding to fuel it. Technically, if you're careful you don't have to kill the donor of the spike, and they can even regain their natural power if they have a sufficient amount of healing investiture, such as with Feruchemical gold. But there is likely going to be some more or less permanent spiritual scarring that will happen, though we're not entirely sure what it will do, or how serious of a problem it would be.
  21. Alright, I'm now on my laptop and was able to find the quote.
  22. Adolin killed Sadeas, a Highprince, and then even confessed to his father about it. Why hasn't Dalinar done anything about it? Isn't that kind of crime punishable by exile at the least, execution at worst, even if the one committing the crime was a highprince's son? I love Adolin's character, but it feels that this hasn't really been resolved yet. It feels...weird, and frankly a little messed up in my opinion that all the characters who know of this just kind of ignore it. Am I missing something?
  23. Actually, if got a Boon/Curse from the Old magic you could Hemalurgicly remove both, then split the two and despose of the Curse while keeping the Boon. Maybe you could even Allomanticly burn the Boon spike instead of piercing yourself with it so as to not have an additional spike in your system. I'm on my mobile right now, so I'll have to find the quote later. Sorry about that.
  24. I'll need to go look at the antonations for the exact quote, but I remember it says that Ruin is naturally invasive, while Preservation is the opposet; due to the Intent of each Shard, only one can listen to thoughts while the other can speak within your mind.
  25. Especially considering that Preservation's plan was still working over a thousand years after he lost most of his mind and had ANOTHER Shard actively scheming and manipulating the world durring that time, and they had the advantage of being fully aware. Preservation must have had REALLY good future sight.
