  1. I know that certain metals that oxidize, such as copper, work that way, but I'm pretty sure iron will eventually rust down to its core if it stays wet.
  2. Yes, he does. Brandon had two different ways of handling the metal poisoning that Allomancers would face if it were real, and we're not 100% sure right now which one he went with. 1. Allomancers burn away their metals before they have a chance to hurt themselves. 2. Allomancers have a slightly different physiology than other humans, meaning that they don't poison themselves when they swallow bits of metal. But since he mentions Metalborn being slightly different physically speaking in 2021, it's probably that one.
  3. You know, I actually would bet that the original Breath every Nalthian carries is part of your Spiritual aspect (and why it is classified as "innate" Investiture), but all of the ones you get after aren't. That would help explain why your Breath retains some aspects of yourself even when you give it away. In other words, your original Breath is part of your soul, but all others you collect aren't, since they are primarily in the physical realm. Nice defense with the quotes by the way.
  4. Bit of a nitpick, but Breaths are mostly in the physical realm, not the spiritual.
  5. It depends on the Investiture. Some, such as Bio-Chromatic Breaths don't have any issues leaving their system, since their Intent is about giving away with no strings attached. Honor's Intent is literally to bind things, to grab and hold onto them. Odium's is also about not letting go, but for more selfish reasons. That's why it is so hard to move those Investitures off world.
  6. Exactly. You'd need to find a way to convert Preservation's Investiture into something that could be used by the Soulcaster (specifically for Lerasium), and you would need a ton of it too. And yes, if you wanted to make Raysium, you would need Voidlight.
  7. We know that someone who is Hemalurgically spiked would end up like a Drab, but in worse condition, so yes, that should work. It is also possible to hide from Lifesense by storing Investiture via Feruchemical nicrosil, so there probably are some interesting things to decipher between, Connection, Investiture, and such from that. Okay, as I found this quote to prove my additional point, I see that it suggests that Connection is part of what allows Lifesense, but it's not the only part. There's more.
  8. Thanks! and yup, that's the one. Also, if his Ironminds rust, would they no longer count as being Feruchemically viable, since their molecular structure would be effected?
  9. Awesome. I had assumed that you couldn't Soulcast Godmetals into existence, period. But this suggests that it is theoretically possible. Just functionally impossible in most cases, since you would need too much Investiture, and the Intent of the Investiture you're using matters. But, if you were to somehow fuel Soulcasting with Preservation's Investiture (fulfilling the Intent requirement) and were to have enough Investiture, you could Soulcast Lerasium into existence. Thanks for the neat quote @alder24!
  10. Definitely true. I remember Ham talking to Vin about needing to conserve your metals in a fight, since pewter burns fast, so you should fluctuate your burning to make the most use of it. Feruchemy would benefit way more from this strategy though. I once had an idea for a full Feruchemist warrior, with them being like a barbarian in D&d- inhumanly well-muscled, tough as a brick (about as bright as one too), and with a primal sense of power. I now think that the ideal full Feruchemist warrior would be more like a D&d monk- incredible control over their body and mind, being "enlightened", having a "sixth sense" (F-chromium), and not using more power than is strictly necessary for a given situation. Even if tapping the strength of fifty people at once would be fun
  11. I couldn't for the life of me figure out a better way to say these, but felt like I should share. 1. Primer cube technology can be used with Feruchemy as well as Allomancy. In BoM I saw that there is a Set member named "Fed" that primed up the weight-changing device on the Malwish ship. Someone asked about that on another thread, but I couldn't remember where it was. So there's your answer. 2. Feruchemical Metaminds don't rust. Otherwise Wax's Ironminds in his thigh would poison him. I had actually wondered about this for the longest time, then somehow forgot, then managed to remeber when TLM mentions that Wax's Ironminds are now implanted into his body to keep them safe from being Allomantically pushed or pulled on.
  12. Godmetals are made of a specific Investiture, and thus have a unique Intent, so I don't think that you could Soulcast something into a Godmetal, and you probably couldn't Soulcast a Godmetal into something else since it's pure Investiture (at the very least, Soulcasting a Godmetal into something else would be very inefficient, since it is highly Invested).
  13. We've seen with Bleeder and with Set members that Trellium can be used to Hemalurgically grant someone Metalborn powers, but we've also seen that it can be used to create Hemalurgic constructs- the Chimera- which is normally only doable with human attributes. I wonder then, if the Bindpoint placement is even more important than I had previously imagined. Could you perhaps keep someone a human while using Hemalurgy to staple on extra human attributes, since it seems that you can do the opposite- staple the portion of a Spiritweb meant to grant powers to someone else onto a human and turn them into a Hemalurgic construct?
  14. I don't think that someone who hasn't yet Snapped but has the potential to would Snap after being Hemalurgically spiked, even if the trauma would normally be sufficient. The new piece of dominant Ruin would likely suppress the extra bit of Preservation that would need to be freed in order to become an Allomancer. However, if you removed the Hemalurgic spike in question, the trauma plus the now freed-up bit of Preservation would probably cause them to Snap and become a natural Allomancer.
  15. I saw some posts comparing Wayne's and Mile's healing abilities (I'm sorry, there are just too many posts now for me to go through and find the specific ones) to determine a Fullborn's healing ability. Miles was a F-gold Savant, which makes the process much more efficient than if he were to just Compound and tap health. It would be worth noting as well that Radiants have a very hard time becoming Savants (or at least gaining the same benefits of such a condition as a Compounder), so a Fullborn that chose that course would likely have yet another advantage.
  16. It is also worth noting that TLR was a F-Atium Savant, which would have made the process much more efficient.
  17. We've seen that Lifesense allows one to "sense" when others are nearby, and even tell when the practitioner is being looked at- with the exception of Drab individuals. We also see that Feruchemical duralumin can be used to reduce others' awareness of the practitioner by storing the ability to form Connections between peoples... almost like a Drab. And we see in RoW that as Kaladin's and Syl's Connection to each other grows, their innate "sense" of each other's location and mental state increases. My theory then is that Lifesense works by allowing one's spiritual and cognitive aspects are brought closer together, so the practitioner's cognitive aspect is more conscious of their Connection to others nearby, and perhaps that they Connect more easily and strongly. If one were to dampen or remove those Connections though (or prevent them from forming in the first place), the practitioner (the one with the Lifesense) would not be able to detect even non-Drab individuals. Conversely, an individual with a lower level of Lifesense were to increase their Connection to others nearby through Feruchemy or some other means, their awareness of those individuals would also increase as if they were of a greater Heightening.
  18. They have the ability to modify Connections, which could potentially grant them more powers, allow them to remove powers from others, or to edit things almost like Shardic Vessels do. They also have access to more raw Investiture than any other order, though they seem to need a Perpendicularity to open for any practical use with it.
  19. I think that you're absolutely right. We seems that people often think about needing to tap attributes at ten to twenty times as much as a human normally has to be useful (at least that's what the vs threads say), but even just doubling or tripling the right attribute would be a major enhancement. Speed especially; you don't really need to go mach 4 as a Steelrunner to be incredibly dangerous, even going twice as fast as a normal human would allow you to overwhelm most non-Invested opponents in fight. Yeah, Feruchemical gold doesn't actually mimic natural healing in its mechanics, which makes sense, since you'd have to spend too long storing health for it to be an interesting power on its own. A similar thing happens with Feruchemical iron and Allomantic bendalloy; the powers don't quite work the way we expect them to, since narratively they wouldn't be useful enough- or too useful- to be interesting. And his response was So I personally think the explanation is either 'Brandon thought it would be cooler for shifting your weight to change your velocity, and forgot he had mentioned it a couple times' or 'this is Wax's twinborn perk'. I'm leaning towards the latter, since the person who writes the magic system summaries at the end of the book specifically interrogated Wax about the effects, and mentioned she specifically was interested in his very unusual power combination. As for the density thing, there is an explicit mention that you appear to get stronger when tapping, but only to the extent that you can still stand up and walk around - you still have more difficulty moving around overall. So (to pull out random numbers), if you're at 200% normal mass, you have 180% normal strength, and at 50% mass you have 60% normal strength. That means Wax habitually going around at 75% weight so he's 'light on his feet' makes sense - even if he's weaker overall, he's proportionally stronger. The way I personally think about things for bullets or whatever, anything 'inside' the body (where 'inside' is defined in the same way that pushing/pulling metal 'inside' the body uses it) interacts with your body as if it were normal. So tapping iron doesn't cause your ultra-massive blood to be impossible for your heart to pump, but it also doesn't prevent a bullet from passing through your flesh. That seems to be consistent with how it's portrayed in the books. Brandon Sanderson Just a note: in the quote of mine above, I was trying (I believe) to find a way for Wax to indicate that weight doesn't influence the rate at which he falls. IE, acceleration in regards to gravity. It's tough, and I made the call (perhaps incorrectly) not to use modern physics terminology in the W&W books. It has been very hard then to explain: 1). Wax changing his weight doesn't change the pull of gravity on him, or the rate at which he falls. 2) He DOES follow the laws of conservation of momentum. My talking around these things has let me to tie a few paragraphs in knots.
  20. Oops, sorry.
  21. They do get more Atium. That's how they let Marsh recover. They said that there was no more Lerasium, and I think that Sazed might be lying about that and we'll see a bag of Lerasium later in era 3 showing up.
  22. Yup, I think that this new one is good!
  23. Personally, I think that this is possible. Intent may also have played a role, since the Set seemed to be wanting to split Harmonium in order to create a better bomb, but Wax was specifically trying to split Harmonium to create Lerasium and Atium. Also, as a heads up, you may want to edit the thread's title so that it doesn't spoil anything for people who see it from the forums page.
  24. I'm wondering what different kinds of unique interactions may exist between the powers of the Metallic Arts. For example: 1. Tapping and storing F-iron allows for your Steelpushing and Ironpulling to be enhanced and manipulated. 2. F-tin can store other senses, even at least some granted via Allomancy, such as Bronze-sense. 3. Healing enhancement from A-pewter can be Feruchemically stored in gold. 4. A-duralumin can be used to make compounding a Metalmind instantaneous. 5. A Hemalurgic spike providing A-bronze on top of a natural bronze Misting will allow them to pierce Copperclouds. 6. Emotional Allomancy used from the inside of a Bendalloy-Speedbubble will have its effect (raw power) increased when used on someone outside of the bubble. Any other weird/cool Metalborn powers that might go interesting together and make new and interesting affects?
