  1. Hi everyone, I'm new to the Alleyverse and super pumped to start, but it was suggested that I get a quick recap of any recent important events in the Alleyverse. Could someone do that for me? Thank you!
  2. When you suddenly realize it's 1 AM and that you've been reading WoK for six hours
  3. Maybe "Knave of Wrath", knave being a person who is dishonest or has few morals, which I think also applies to TOdium
  4. Name: Therim Daenyron (he/him/his) Physical Appearance: Male, 39 years old, but looks aged beyond his years. Has long, fiery orange hair not quite at his shoulders, and patchy, graying facial hair. Small scars line his chin and cheek, and he walks with a slight limp in his left leg. He is about 5'9", and of average muscular build. He wears leather boots, breeches, a graying tunic with a traveler's coat with leather straps and bracers. Investiture: Tineye Weakness: Mysterious limp, old age, trauma from his past has caused mental health issues, including PTSD flashbacks/nightmares Special Skills: Very educated, knows much of the world, can play the lute extremely well, is an incredible story teller, very good at any dicing game Weapons: Only weapon he carries is an old dagger made of a steel, with tin lining the handle. Despite how nondescript it sounds, it carries importance to Therim. Family: Unknown wife, but was definitely married at some point, had a daughter but died at a young age Home: Orginally lived with his wife and daughter on Scadrial, in the Skaa district of Luthadel History: Little is known of Therim Daenyron. Only a few know of his past: that he was once an assassin for hire. However, when his daughter was killed eight years ago by mercenaries paid to exact revenge on Therim by the mother of a man he killed, Therim left his life as an assassin. The dagger he carries was the one he used to kill the mercenaries to try to save his daughter. But, he was too late, and his daughter had been killed. Therim vowed never to use any weapon to harm another being, and he keeps the dagger as a reminder. This is also the moment when Therim Snapped; the grief and pain of losing his daughter was too much to bear. Currently, he is a gleeman, traveling the world with no apparent goal. He stays in taverns when he can, where he entertains in exchange for food and shelter. Otherwise he sleeps in the streets or on the side of the road. His only purpose, if any, is to help others in bad situations. More specifically, he is sympathetic to young people who have made irreversible mistakes, and he tries to help them the best he can. Personality: Is very rational and intelligent, but prefers to be alone when he can. He also has an air of mystery surrounding him, as if he knows something you don't. Refuses to talk about past. Can be very gruff with people when he is annoyed.
  5. Have you read Mistborn: Secret History? Cause if not, I would suggest doing that. Not only does it have a ton of cool lore, but it also provides a little bit of background for one of the bigger secrets at the end of RoW.
  6. I mean, I always love me some good lore, so yeah, learning more about Ashyn/Braize, Shinovar and its history, Aimians, Horneaters, etc would be pretty cool. I would also love to see even more people from other shard worlds on Roshar. We've already seen Azure/Vivenna, Zahel/Vasher, Wit/Hoid, and of course, the Seventeenth Shard. But it would be AWESOME to see people like Wax & Wayne, Khris, Nazh, Kenton, and maybe even other shards, like Harmony (though that's probably unlikely)
  7. I've always thought of the Ten Fools as stories or parables told by the Vorin Church to warn of their versions of the seven deadly sins, so to speak. I doubt the Ten Fools are some sort of incarnation of Whimsy, mainly because a.) we don't know enough about Whimsy and b.) I don't think that Whimsy wants anything to do with Roshar. I also want to point out how ironic it would be if the Ten Fools were actually Heralds, then it means that the Vorin Church basically told stories of how the people they worshipped did stupid stuff.
  8. I find it very interesting that potentially all three Rosharian vessels will have given up their shards (whether willingly or not) and that we may have three new vessels for each shard soon. Of course, Tanavast was killed and his shard was splintered, and more recently, Rayse was killed and his shard was taken up by Odium. So if Cultivation "retires" and Lift is her successor and then maybe Kaladin/Dalinar is Tanavast's succesor, there may end up being three inexperienced vessels, which could be very intriguing.
  9. Ok but can we agree that resetting the original Oathpact may not be the greatest idea? Yes it worked the way it was intended, but eventually it broke all the Heralds and the only reason humans survived for so long was because Taln's resistance to pain and suffering was so high. So what I'm saying is that perhaps a "new" Oathpact is needed, one that does not require returning to Braize after each Desolation, but rather unites singer and human against Odium.
  10. Yeah, both death sentences are similar.
  11. My guess is it's going to be an Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame sort of thing. The good guys will sort of lose in book five, but come back to fight again in part 2 of SA. Then again, Brandon was surprised us so many times, I've lost count, so anything could happen..... *cue ominous music*
  12. Yeah, I went into reading it thinking that there was going to be a lot of Venli and Listener stuff, except it really is Kaladin's or Navani's book. There is some Venli, but not enough to make the entire focus of the book on her.
  13. There was a typo at the end that I edited, but it always said "not that there is definitely gonna be a Stormlight movie". This is purely hypothetical.
  14. This may already be a topic so you can link it if you want. Not that there is definitely gonna be a Stormlight show/movie (which would be amazing) but who do you think would be good actors/actresses to play the characters in Stormlight. Kaladin-I can sort of see Adam Driver (he has the hair for it) Shallan-Scarlet Johansson (maybe) Dalinar- Daniel Craig Rock- The Rock (it's meant to be) Anyone else?
  15. The last one, "I Know Him" is perfect. It had me chuckling quite a bit.
  16. I agree. He could also be lying to try to make Shallan accept her past, so he just went along with what Shallan believed.
  17. Sanderson proves yet again that there is always another door to open, always another secret to be found. Just think of all the planning and whatnot that had to take place in order to be able to connect everything together and to foreshadow another mystery.
  18. I agree, it's hard to read Shallan's chapters without cringing every two seconds. I didn't like her that much in WoK, I loved the flashbacks in WoR, but in Oathbringer, I honestly felt like she was as mad as the heralds. It was a bit better in RoW, but not much. The whole "Formless" thing just made her even less same. Also, how Veil and Radiant aren't technically married to Adolin was weird to me. (Like what if Shallan and Adolin got all intimate, and Radiant popped in out of nowhere. It would be so awkward for Adolin).
  19. I would say that to the singers/listeners, calling them Parshendi is like calling a Chinese person Japanese.
  20. First off, I want to say that when Teft died and Kaladin saw his body, I cried for a little bit. But I soon realized that his death was needed. First, it pushed Kaladin to the breaking point, allowing him to realize he can't save everyone. It almost went the other way with Kaladin killing himself, but luckily, he said the Fourth Ideal instead. Also, in every book you need someone to die. It's honestly just a fact. It makes the story more tragic and poignant. Mistbor spoiler: I think Teft was the perfect person to kill off. He was important enough to not go unnoticed, but he isn't like Kaladin or Dalinar dying. Also, Teft meant a lot to Kaladin, and with Kaladin crying over Teft's body, it made it so much sadder. And the way Teft felt peace at the end because he was loved was such a bittersweet moment, and it made his death all the more poignant.
