  1. Agreed - I'm trying to take the most positive view I can even if it's implausible. And I really hope whatever he was alluding to with living forever failed, I do not want him to come back.
  2. Kaladin was opposed BUT it's possible - particularly if Laural changes a bit after Roshone's death.
  3. I think it's possible that Brandon broke his plan just slightly and threw in a quick POV from someone in a different group.
  4. It's not confirmed - all we know is that there is a break to a Shallan POV mid-chapter in the middle of the scene where Kaladin is fighting a battle with Lift present and Dalinar somewhere nearby. We do not know where Shallan is or what she's doing HOWEVER would be weird to break to her POV mid-chapter if she's not present.
  5. I want to reserve judgement on Gavilar, there is a possibility (though small perhaps) that he was pushing Navani away to protect her from something that was about to happen. And whilst that approach is rarely good it could have had a positive objective. Amaran continually attempts to justify evil, calling it good - UGGGH. Sadeas is terrible - though in many ways he's what Dalinar would have been if Dalinar had not changed, which is hard to think about. Moash, is understandable but still AWFUL. I can't choice between them.
  6. Yeah it's much later than previous years - maybe Michael Whelan had a busy year OR Covid stopped him going to his studio or something. That said we should definately see it some time next month I think or there won't be time to get it printed before release.
  7. Had a look, it's chapter 37 it doesn't give a number.
  8. Using shardblades effectively requires 2 hands.
  9. Have you read Edgedancer? Maybe read that after your break if not. It's a simpler and happier book than Oathbringer. That said as others have said Oathbringer has some amazing highs and some very low lows so parts of it really are a slog other parts are simply: WOW...
  10. As at the end of Oathbringer the good guys seem to have the most powerful individual fighters. But the bad guys are way more organised and have far more "magical" troops. I'd be very surprised if the Bad Guys were just losing everywhere. To be honest I was almost surprised that the Bad guys couldn't take Urithuru when they attacked there in light of Kaladin being away (and hence the other windruinners being without powers) - the only defences were Malata (if she tried), various dead shards and mundane troops - a dozen fused should have gone through it like warm knifes through butter.
  11. To echo everyone else's warnings - the spoiler policy on this site is that new book spoilers are limited to a specific sub-board for the first year a book is out. After a year anything goes, so as Words of Radiance (and its sequel Oathbringer) have been out for several years there are spoilers for them everywhere. Though most people will avoid posting them in this topic (if they realise you haven't finished reading the books yet) be careful with any other topics or even subjects.
  12. I meant how did the fused know, not how did Lirin know.
  13. Indeed though it leaves me wondering:
  14. Initial reactions when I finished it ~17 hours ago were: 1. more chapters after the epilogue... this is strange 2. why did it end this way -> BUT actually it makes sense the key issue of the book was solved, and the next major issues have been set up 3. why M-Bot, WHY???? At least we still have his voice but I really wanted more of Spensa flying him and we can't have that now unless he's rebuilt 4. The superiority is going to take a lot of damage 5. I really hope Spensa gets back to Detritus early in the next book. EDIT bits I forgot that I also thought about: 6. Spensa's reveal to Brent and her betrayal was so obvious it was funny 7. Doomslugs as the superiority's hyperdrives - semi-obvious from the first time we heard the scream -> but what is the scream are the slugs in pain? 8. The superiorty's leadership uses cytonics loads whilst telling everyone not to use them -> smells like corruption/method of controlling society rather than safety procedures 9. I did not see Jurgen as a cyctonic coming at all.
  15. What if Kaladin dies and Teft sort of takes his spot in the story? I'm not expecting it BUT, Kaladin currently seems more expendable than any of the other main guys - he's just a great fighter - Teft could theoretically fill his spot. None of the other mains have an obvious replacement.
  16. I think stopping the everstorm will be part of it. Additionally I think they may need to find some way to take away the fused's immortality - probably with some special as yet unseen bondsmith wizardry.
  17. The sample is not on the UK apple books store.
  18. Possible but IMO her being either an opportunist that Graves recruited or simply a "standard" member of the diagram remains more likely until we see any more information. Additionally has she had any further appearances since the meeting with Graves; she could have just been a throwaway character.
  19. Soulcasting doesn't always use up the gemstones, often just the stormlight which can be recharged in a highstorm for free. I think there's something about gemstones used to make food often shattering but I assume that you could make marble without shattering your gemstones.
  20. What about Moash vs Venli OR Moash vs Szeth? Of OPs list Moash vs Adolin would be my favourite.
  21. I recall a comment somewhere in Oathbringer about trying to find out how to go to other destinations rather than just swapping with Urithiru - implying that the in-world characters believed it possible. But I can't remember where it was; perhaps something to look out for on a re-read.
  22. I imagine it should be a major plot point. Particularly if they can go gate to gate without going via Urithiru - directly attacking Thaylen City from Kholinar for instance would be nasty.
  23. Just had a thought - Edgedancer + someone with gravitation paired up, fall through the sky with reduced drag so you go faster.
  24. I wonder if Moash will end up being Odium's champion now he's (assumedly) given up on Dalinar for that. If not well... I mostly just hope he doesn't get much screen time in book 4 I don't particularly enjoy reading his POV.
  25. I got Elsecaller which I'm happy with.
