Oathbringer Audio Book: What To do While Listening?
rjl replied to Radiant_Jaeger's topic in Stormlight Archive
I just walked for many miles whilst listening. I guess that doesn't work with 2 people because headphones would be an issue. If a game is the choice I'd reccomend a game you're already familiar with which doesn't require much thought - very specifically not something new (as you'll miss what's happening int he book) The other idea I've got instead would be take it in turns to do press-ups and other exercises, lots of back and forth competition - do that through the whole of oathbringer and it will do good things for your health -
This idea that he did multiple Oaths makes a lot of sense with one exception; I think if he'd sworn multiple Oaths here he would have manifested shard plate.

I originally thought that "I am Unity" was the ideal; BUT I changed my mind because: it sounds like a 5th ideal not a 3rd (as you reason above) - and I don't think we'd skip 3rd and 4th. This post:

Based on the combination of the various bits of anecdotal evidence I'd attach a high probability to Shallash becoming a Dustbringer BUT it's certainly a point of speculation at the moment - and I'd guess it will get RAFO'd if asked at a signing though someone could try.

@Edvarin One correction on the Skybreakers; they don't bond their spren at the 3rd ideal - they have to bond their spren before then, see chapter 90, page 867 of the US hardcover i.e. you must bond the spren before you can speak the oath not at the moment that you speak it. See also chapter 121, page 1198 Clearly Szeth had bonded the spren at some point earlier though when exactly I don't know

This bears further examination this line seems particularly relevant: Oathbringer, us hardcover page 1104:

I'm just thinking, I would actually like to see more scenes of Kaladin and Jasnah interacting but not romantically.

I was sure I'd previously seen a WoB that said it was not that she can't ever breathe in stormlight but rather she doesn't know how to/doesn't know she can. But I cannot find this now (just looked through Arcanum without success) does anyone else recall this?
-
Pretty sure he only did the 3rd ideal; his fourth will require the completion of a crusade - his planned cleansing of the Shin.

Started a re-read, noticed something I hadn't before, the "big secret" is on the first page of the book: "She'd always imagined humans - as sung in of in the songs - as dark formless monsters."
-
I think it's got to be something like: "I will focus on those I can protect (and leave those I can't)" The leadership related points don't seem to work with him thinking of Tien and not being able to say it.

theory [OB] Unsurprisingly, Feather wants to talk Renarin
rjl replied to FeatherWriter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Shallan at least thinks that Sja-anat is Glys' corrupter, see her thoughts after reading Mraize's letter in chapter 122 (page 1226 in the US hardcover) Other things I'm curious about: Page 1121 why does Glys say "My sorrow, Renarin. I will give you my sorrow" - at first I thought this was him reading the writing from the vision of Dalinar failing BUT it doesn't read that way, it rather reads as Glys giving Renarin Glys' sorrow. Maybe just a linguistic oddity but this stands out to me now. Page 1132 Ivory speaking "Jasnah, this is right. Somehow it is." and continuing on the next page "It is not what makes sense, yet it is still right. How. How is this thing?" Glys lives inside Renarin's heart - just like a voidspren would live in a parshman's gemheart. The quotes from point 2 certainly seem to point to this being the fist time this sort of thing has happened unless it was always kept secret in the past (otherwise Ivory should have known about it)- 86 replies

[OB] Will Dalinar slowly be overridden by UNITY intent.
rjl replied to Egomere's topic in Stormlight Archive
I guess it's ambiguous, Dalinar says one then the other. The Stormfather says "These words are accepted" after Dalinar says "I am unity", but I suppose it could just be that he took some time to recover from Odium pushing him away and he didn't get a chance to say it sooner. -

I thought "I am Unity" was his 3rd Ideal. -
Well my physical book took too long to arrive so I used an audible credit to get the audio book - I then proceeded to spend many hours walking around a park, around various backstreets I don't know, through some dark alleys and through the middle of town too whilst listening. All in all probably walked a good 20 miles maybe more; even at 2x speed Oathbringer still took a while to listen to.

I think the suggestion was that most of Alethkar is overrun, not just the Kholin lands; I think this will emerge more in the next book, they need to get farming going in Urithiru (or Stormseat). Either that or have Jasnah and Shallan work non-stop soulcasting food... @lordofsoup the impression I got was that the gemstones beneath Urithiru were all set into some kind of pillar and are part of the Urithiru fabrial.

Hmm you may be right, I'll look for evidence either way during a re-read.

I'm not commenting on the eye colour but rather the storm spren and other spren we've seen granting forms of power - unless I've missed it we very specifically have not seen one of the gold odium-spren bond a parshman.
-
Really hard to say, I've grown to prefer faster paced books with a few less viewpoints; but this was still amazing. For now I'm giving it 9/10, I loved it but I hope the next one gets slightly tighter.
-
The spren that grant forms of power are red, or at least all the ones I've seen described are; they are very specifically not Gold. Now, see this WOB: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/173-oathbringer-san-francisco-signing/#e8340 Theory: forms of power are of Honor and/or Cultivation but somehow/at some point the Spren that grant them were co-opted or corrupted by Honor. I note that I am speaking not of the fused here but specifically of the other forms of power.

[OB] Possible evidence of a radiant with Shardplate
rjl replied to Dearius's topic in Stormlight Archive
The idea that Jasnah would be capable of summoning Shardplate and yet would dismiss it mid fight seems rather odd; if she could wear it surely she would have used it for the whole battle. Why would she put it away, I can see three possible options for not wearing armour in a battle: To keep it secret OR To have a better field of vision OR To have better freedom of movement None of these 3 options seem to work in this situation: People know that KRs can get shardplate, unless something goes wrong it's going to become common sometime soon why hide it? If this was the issue then just dismiss the helm or the faceplate, not the whole suit From all the descriptions we've had shardplate does not hinder movement at all -
Here is the WOB: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/181-stormlight-three-update-4/#e3757 Note the disclaimer he gives...

Hmm we were lead to believe it was Jezrien's as shortly after we see Jezrien's Blade being given to Moash, but we could be wrong. Can someone with the book to hand check what's said about the theft of the Honorblade was it stolen by a human?
