Catching up the Queen
Trutharchivist replied to Channelknight Fadran's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Who did write this poem? Out of curiosity. -
I'll trust a friendly advice and will, warily, double post. I am well aware of what I am doing, I just wanted to make sure my next questions won't be left unanswered. I actually thought of those question following the return of DramaQueen, which I won't tag here because while I am interested in her opinion, I don't summon people to answer my questions. So... we are still on the shard-socializing topic, and those questions, I believe, are connected to this topic: 6. Assuming you had to leave the shard forever do you think you will have many memories of it in future years? If so, what memories? 7. Following the first question, assuming you've left abruptly, do you think you will be missed? If those questions seem too personal to you, please say so.

I think it's hard for you to judge, since I haven't said much about my book preferences. I am in some sort of morbid mood right now, but not to much. And it'll pass quickly. BTW, how old is this book? Did the author die more than 70 years ago?
-
Are there any ghosts? Because since I dislike zombies, it appears I am generally locked on ghosts. And cool necromancy stuff, but that's another story.
-
Is enjoying books about death and ghosts (excluding zombies) also a vampire trait? Because it seems I'm lately being drawn to those books. Or at least, consider rereading some I've read before.

Some short stories (Featuring plant guy, Death, and a dragon)
Trutharchivist replied to Tesh's topic in Creator's Corner
I really liked the Here Be Dragons story, I'm not sure about the other two though. I'm not a romance expert, so I won't say much of WSCA,WSCS (this story has a long name, it's more comfortable this way), and I believe the Death story might need more fleshing out. Your dragon story actually reminded me of an idea I had, for a dragon that became a lawyer after a villager sued him for eating his sheep. -
Yeah, we have nothing better since the goat, wisely, refused to sacrifice itself.

Catching up the Queen

Yes. I do remember you protested when Fadran changed his pic and said you'd leave if he won't change back. It was on the Millionth post celebration. I remembered it because you left not long after, though it was after he did change back. Also, welcome back. I joined a few months before you left and never actually interacted with you - I became a lot more active lately, I believe. Though I was on the anti-clone side, too. -
Gal returned to the others, noting they seemed to stop for the night. he got a sleeping bag out of a portion of his backpack he didn't open before, then left it at that, approaching Valzwyn with his notebook. "Are you fine with experimenting now, or would you prefer to sleep?" He asks. @Channelknight Fadran?

Well, I was fine with this movie. At least the first one. Now, for a completely different question (apparently I'm doing a research on this topic): what do you think about Twilight?
-
I was just a little exaggerating anyway, but thank you. I have the problem (which shouldn't be all that much uncommon here) of taking things written in books too seriously. I sort of run away from home because of one book when I was young. Now I'm not that close to this, but I still dislike reading scary things. And I don't know either about the proper term, especially since this is a genre I don't want to read.
-
All right, here's a reason for me to leave: I don't really like gothic fantasy. Never read Dracula, and I don't want to, really. Though Frankenstein I might read. I am sorry to say I don't have much experience with Edgar Allan Poe, though I've read The Raven and liked it a little.

Gal looked up at Orpheus' comment. "Yes, you are right. It's a little surprising he was willing to share all he did until now. Funny thing, my question was intentionally phrased to be polite." He looked annoyed. "I think we can go back to the others. He could've just said he's not willing to share his goals, the Snakeson. Though I do wander," he returns to his notebook, and is clearly talking to the demon again, "by 'parallel' do you mean it's not overlapping our existence? If so, it could be interesting. There are some known Realms that work this way, though those are few."
-
"Are your goals shareable with us? If not, I can live with that. Is your realm connected to where the souls of sapient creatures come from? And do you sometimes notice the hand of a Higher entity in events? Also, how old are you, and when did you first interact with our realm?"

Trutharchivist's crew

This is my 256th post - 16 squared, and I intend to talk about Mistborn here, specifically about the trust theme in it. So, since trust is a motif in Mistborn, and since I said I will dig into ideas behind books (though this one is pretty much straight forward), I will now rumble about trust: As I said above, life without trust are unimaginable. At least to a degree. Imagine, for a moment, how would it be like: you rise up in the morning and your mother makes breakfast. But how would you know she didn't poison it? Maybe she's tired of taking care of you. So you make her eat first. You make sure you always know where your siblings are, because who knows what they are up to. You look around you when you go out, making sure no one is following you. School is a nightmare: too many people to watch. Each and every one of them may betray you. All this will lead to anarchy, since any kind of ruling requires trust. So, you practically have to trust someone. So everything's great, right? We just should trust people. Except it's not. Trust is something you have to give, but it's also the most important thing you have. A fine example is websites, like the one we correspond at. How much about yourself you are willing to give people you meet on the internet? We are being taught from a young age that we shouldn't go meet people we only know from the internet. Some people refuse to give personal information such as their names, myself included. (Though I know there are people willing to reveal their identity - the shardcasters are an example - I never am.) And a name isn't even all that important - we don't live in a fantasy world, where names have literal power. The internet is only one symptom of a far larger phenomenon, which is not necessarily bad. We are, generally, taught to be wary of strangers, and not to trust them. Of course, those two facts aren't contradictory. You can trust people you know and distrust people you don't. Besides, trust can be scaled. Not everything is either complete trust or distrust. Though to Vin it's not all that clear. The trust theme in FE isn't shown all that much in the prologue, though from the first moment of Vin's PoV it can be seen very clearly. She prefers being alone - because this way no one can betray her. Her whole way of life is based on "everyone is selfish and will do anything to fulfill their own desires, so I need to make it their interest that I'll live". All this is very generally, because she still slips and trusts someone else - Ulaf. She's even a bit surprised when Camon betrays Theron. Even then, before Kelsier and after Reen's betrayal, Vin can't really make herself trust no one. Not truly. I haven't finished on this subject, but I don't think I can add much, so this is it for now. I really want this to become a discussion and not a rumble, so I'd like to hear your thoughts. -
Gal's eyes light up. "An inexperienced demon we have here. Interesting. I believe you still know more than I do, though. And you are a more complicated entity. The unsinglemindedness of you is not unique, I guess, but neither it is common. I must admit it's the first time I meet one of your kind." He stops talking for a moment, writes some things in his notebook, than looks up. "So, what do you know of the bear that just attacked us? And how experienced are you with our realm, including possessions of lower unintelligent creatures?"
-
"So, it is well known that the Higher realms have rules. Are they more natural ones, or agreed ones? And do you have some kind of Center, Nexus, Intent behind all your plans? If so, will you share it?" He stopped for a moment, looking a little embarrassed, and said: "I guess he can straightforwardly hear me. Am I right?"
-
"So, they work in specific physical places? Interesting. And I am interested to know what the Contract includes, exactly. But, about what I said on powers that affect the user, you should know that from what I know it might happen to you, but to a lesser extent. The case I've spoke of was of one bonded for his whole life to a non-physical entity. I don't know what exactly your contract consists of, but it must be less strong than a bond. Some of what you said fits perfectly well with what I know about non-physical entities in general." He stopped for a moment. "I wonder, do you think your demon might be willing to answer a few questions?"

That reminds me (for some reason): did any of you hear anything about therian or otherkin communities? I'm just a little curious about them. Also, with all the talk of cats, maybe you can think off a better Center for them in my magic system - it's in my signature. I believe I was already offered laziness though (Not on the shard, my sister offered something like that).
