Once upon a time I'd have dug up the threads to check if my theories have been discussed, but I'm starting to realize this is unfeasible. So if you know that this has been discussed feel free to direct me there. Anyway, skyeels. We know most Roshar animals have some form of carapace, especially land animals (the fish in purelake, as far as I know, are regular fish). The exceptions are almost universally actually from Ashyn - like horses, or chicken, or cows and sheep. Some horses specifically have adapted to Roshar - Rishadiums. So my question is, are skyeels similar? Did they, too, come from Ashyn as just eels or something and then evolved to fit Roshar better? Or are they just one of numerous Roshar creatures that are ever so slightly different? Roshar does seem to have fish similar to ours, after all, so maybe skyeels naturally evolved from an existing species?

Not sure. Mostly because I feel awkward about people knowing I looked at their profile, but I suppose that's a me thing, and it is kind of interesting. Don't think I used it much, though.

1337 is spelling "leet" in l33tspeak. Which is old internet slang that, despite being older than the average currently active Sharder, I didn't actually experience firsthand. It included using numbers to replace letters a lot, from what I understand. Question, is there a particular reason to censor the number 666?

Hmm. This WoB does seem to indicate it's about what Wax did, not Steris, so I suppose there goes my theory.
-
Yeah, I realized that right after posting that. I just forgot. Also, I think it was the Feruchemical copper sign? I'm also an archivist, that's my favourite Feruchemical power. Good point. The crux of my theory is how preserving Steris is being in this scene, and there clearly needs to be a certain balance of Ruin and Preservation to split the metal. A Hemalurgic spike can also work for a Ruin side, I suppose, though I think an equal and opposing Intent would make more sense. Even if the Set did, I still think they wouldn't really have the Intent nailed down. They want Lerasium, but not for Preservation purposes.

That is a fair point, and yes! Wayne was there! Maybe I should bring the quote around to see if he said or seemed to imply anything interesting. Where did you get the Oracle comment? I'm pretty sure I changed my member title, and the rank is Spinner currently. Edit: I'm an idiot. My profile pic. Obviously.

So, I'm probably not the first one to consider this, but digging through the threads would be a bit exhausting - do tell me if someone said it before. So, something Wax did with attempting to split Harmonium was different from other attempts. It's unlikely to have been anything about the physical aspects of it, since that would just end up being an "unknown impurity of the salt" since the only unique part about the situation physically was that it was done in a home laboratory. Considering how Investiture generally works, I'd say it's clearly something to do with Intent or Command or something. Likely Intent. Here's the thing: one of the things emphasized in this section is the safety precautions Steris makes everyone take. It's told from her perspective, and some emphasis is put on her wanting to keep her friends and family safe. To preserve them, so to speak. Meanwhile, Wax is really used to and fully expect some ruin to happen around - explosions keep happening against him and such. So... What if that's what made the difference? Marsh and Sazed attempting to do that did with too much Preservation in their minds, wanting Marsh to live on. The Set had more explosive, Ruinous intentions of explosions. But only Wax and Steris, in their homemade lab, actually had the correct balance of both to fully split Harmonium into Atium and Lerasium.

What would you do if you found in your pocket
Trutharchivist replied to Trutharchivist's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Put it somewhere else absentmindedly and then completely forget about it. Someone didn't read the opening post. Probably the second or third time the One Ring came over, can't say I remember. "Your pocket" also appeared once. WWYDIYF a box the colour of heartbreak IYP?- 1057 replies

Since a lot of the recent posts in Sharder Memes have been about past Shard generations, I thought maybe we should start a different thread for that. So hi! I'm Trutharchivist (Arch for short), and I've been here since... I want to say July 2020? Somewhere along those lines. I never left the Shard, I just only hung around Sharder memes talking about the Law of Degrading Activity. I fondly remember the old RPG I played with a couple of Shard friends that are no longer active here, along with the 1 million post celebration.
-
So, trying to do it: Am I doing this right? Yeah, I figured. The whole point of memes is that they spread quickly.

The Person Below Me
Trutharchivist replied to The Awakened Salad's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Yup. TPBM is a fellow long time user of the Shard who may or may not be making a comeback. (Also, they will obey the game rules and add a TPBM to their post instead of derailing. Come on.) -
Drat, apparently #1 Taln Fan actually followed the pattern. Maybe I need to remake the first meme on the thread, then.
-
Skill issue. I wasn't really intimidated by Ene but participated in the memeing, and I only encountered her after she became a mod.
-
Karger isn't active anymore? Darn. Hey, I got mentioned alongside Experience! I have no idea when they joined, but I kind of expected them to be more well-known than me. Honestly, didn't expect to be named among the classic Sharders. Hey, anyone wants to recycle the "Ene is intimidating" memes for #1 Taln Fan?
-
Permission to tell Connie about that? (I have her Discord.)
-
Meanwhile a living proof you can be here for a long time and not win the day even once: I suppose I'm just really not that active. (Also, I don't seem to remember you from my first years in the Shard, we probably were active in completely different circles.)

I don't know. Certain Christians take exactly this stance, which leads them to being incredibly intolerant of anyone who isn't their particular flavour of Christian. I think this world is complex, and while people's eternal salvation can be very important to a person, not being a jerk is also important. And accepting that other people have different beliefs than you do is an essential part of not being a jerk. I don't know if I'm phrasing this right. But essentially, if a person would go to me and do everything in their power to make me say that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour I would not admire their moral consistency, I'll be annoyed by their complete incapability in accepting that I don't share their beliefs. And I think this should be taken to account - maybe the best way to frame it is belief is different than knowledge. I don't know that G-d exists and serves punishment to the wicked, but I might believe it. At the same time, I can acknowledge that a different person does not believe it, and that this is their choice and not mine. (Re: Pascal's Wager, I just want to 100% agree. Pascal's Wager is one of the most useless arguments because it assumes a binary over a topic that really isn't a binary. Even within religions that believe in omnipotence, according to the Wager you must be willing to serve God both as the Christians see Him and Allah as Muslims do, which tend to clash with each other.)

I'm proud to present here my second ever Sanderson fic! It's about a rabbi in Azir dealing with the fallout of the Everstorm and it's really short. No, I'm not inserting Earth to the Cosmere, just random inexplicably Jewish characters - which will likely be elaborated on in the future, possibly with the help of @Spring613.

Considering a plot point in the book is about the assassination of the Malwish Prime Minister that doesn't seem likely, IMO. Could be a "controlling fron the shadows" situation, but that doesn't sound likely.

Obelix should probably be a barbarian who put all his stats on strength or something.

Legal adulthood is assumed to be between 16 and 21, I assume? Just for reference, in my country it's just 18. So do whatever calculations you want, I think I derailed here enough, you young'uns should go ahead and return to your normal schedule. I mentioned the idea around Sharder Memes, mostly. And eh, I'm as alive as I've ever been. Maybe once I read Isles of the Emberdark I'd actually be more active, though I also have some personal projects here that I've neglected. Old man's voice Back in my day... the youth wouldn't have insulted old men like that... But more seriously, @Kansas Stormcursed, I'm not too old in body. I may have been a legal adult for 7 years, and were here for about 4 of them, I think? Wait, no, 5. Huh, that's a while. Anyway, yeah. Seeing relatively new users used to make me feel old. I think my lack of activity recently helped with that - at this point, the people I used to consider relatively new users aren't active, and I'm fully aware that I'm technically a "veteran" user, so to speak.

Apologies for being out of context, but you summoned me. Obviously accidentally, as I don't believe we've interacted before. But reading back a bit on the context, and that's just the universal Sharder experience, I think: this site, for the most part, functions on short generations that come and go, each one taking about three years. I call it the Law of Degrading Activity. The funny thing is, I won't be surprised to discover you joined by the time my "generation" faded away. Anyway, go back to your regularly scheduled mental health stuff, sorry for disturbing. I just haven't been tagged in a while.

No worries. You were acting like the average Sharder would, and my hope was slim anyway. Hope you enjoyed it! I suppose I'll start reading it soon as well, then.
