  1. I'll just link it here, fine? Feel free to join
  2. I used to. Then the IDF (and Yeshivah, because it includes boarding too) happened and I didn't have the time. apparently, the librarians still remember me and asked my sister (who volunteers there) how I was doing, once or twice. How do you decide whether to buy a book or wait until it arrive to your local library?
  3. Welcome! We have a (practically dead) discord server - I'm not sure whether or not it's linked here. Awkwardly retreats to the corner, though feels somewhat less socially awkward at the moment.
  4. First, I'd like to mention that my knowledge of Christianity is somewhat limited by the fact I lived all my life among Jews, in a Jewish education system. What it means is that the first things I learned about Christianity were more stereotypes, though I slowly learned more in history and by talking to people here. And possibly a bit by reading stuff on the Internet. Now, the differences I find curious... Hmm... An interesting point will be the way Christianity ignores most of the Torah's commandments, yet in the middle ages, some specific ones were taken as "but that should be kept". I really don't know much about this point, but to my knowledge, Paul declared that in order to be a Christian you don't need to be a Jew or circumvent. Plus, there are 613 commandments in the Pentateuch (what we call the Torah, usually), and most of them aren't really much kept in Christianity, from what I know, but witches were burned, because the bible says so! And people nowadays talk against homosexuality, because the bible forbids to man to be together like this! But, there are quite a lot of other commandments in the bible Christianity just ignores. It's forbidden to eat ham, or everything that comes from the sea that doesn't have both fins and scales, or blood. It is required to sit in a Sukah for seven days. Deuteronomy is full of references to "the place that G-d will choose" and what should be done there, but I never heard of Christians trying to work in that direction. That's not necessarily what I find most curious, though, just one point. Also, viewing Jesus as G-d is kind of weird. In Judaism, G-d has no body nor the likes of one, and is ultimately One with no second. The whole trinity stuff... I don't know. But here's an interesting point I thought of lately, relating to my first one: to my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe I should tag @Ixthos for that...), Paul said that gentiles don't have to convert to Judaism to be followers of Jesus. Does that not mean that if Jews convert to Christianity, they're still obliged to the original rules of Judaism? Because throughout history, Jewish converts abandoned all practices of Judaism in favour of Christianity. My answer isn't very well organized, sorry. Hope I didn't come off as attacking anyone - generally I'm in for religious discussion, there are threads for that though and we can elaborate more there.
  5. Alright. For no particular reason, I decided to double post and revive this thread using my necromancy abilities! Please try to ask me questions. Two simple points before we continue: 1. Think before posting a "favorite ______" question. No matter how it's phrased, if a questions asks me to compare two or more things and choose a favorite, please try to consider how important this question is. You should think about every question that, but favorites can be a sensitive topic. 2. Expect long answers and explanations on why I answered the way I did. It's in the OP, but hey, no reason to not restate it! So go ahead, ask me some questions!
  6. Ben opened his eyes and immediately got up in excitement. It was his second day at the Greatowl University - the day classes started! He dressed up quickly, then went to peek into Jared's bedroom. "Hey, Jared, are you awake?" @Emery the Steelrunner
  7. I said it here originally, so I thought I'd close it here too: remember a year and a half ago, when I told you my levels of activity might go down due to the IDF? Well, I'm finishing my active servitude there in about a week and a half. More accurately, I have about a week and a half while still technically in active servitude that I go home, and then I'm officially finished - well partly, but it's complicated. So I just might be a little more active! Though chances are I won't, not by much.

*Sighs* I really need to learn more Hebrew.

@NerdyAarakocra, um... You'd be the... Fourth, maybe fifth? Person I know from the Shard who expressed some willingness to learn Hebrew. It's kind of weird for me, actually, but maybe I should try starting a class!

      @Robin Sedai thank you!

  8. I think I'll try. I have read a story that was written similarly before and it was an absolute mess, though. Then again, I'm pretty sure one of the rules this one had was that you can only read the chapter before the one you wrote, plus they had an extremely tight deadline. So, is the first rule I mentioned applicable here? I'll try joining either way.
  9. Wait. How many relatively new people are this far ahead of me? I shouldn't care, really. After all, my goal here was never to have a good upvotes/posts ratio. But I did set a goal to myself rank-wise a while ago. And I just want to point out that Silhouette is ahead while having less than half the number of my posts. So... Anyway, I'd go with an archivist. Because there already were two sparkers, so someone needs to be able to give them the necessary knowledge.
  10. When you press space after tagging someone in mobile and then try to erase the weird additions, right? The more you try, the less it works. I propose adding some sort of punctuation mark and write a bit after it. This way, even when you erase it the glitch doesn't repeat.
  11. Umm... I actually meant the act of controlling another RPer's character. Did I mess up the terminology? I just quit the game when it became a lightsaber fight against Darles' Chickens with shardplates. Or was it when the sun was supposedly set on fire? Anyway, maybe I will return one day. Maybe. Edit: so, yeah, I misunderstood the meaning of the word. Still works, just replace the "he's my character" with "that's my RP". Maybe I should try another meme template for what I actually meant.
  12. @CalanoCorvus all right, here's one: Insanity Clinic meme. That was my reaction for a few minutes before I realized you changed both name and pic. I'd have told you you should've warned us, but for all I know you did; I don't follow you, after all.
  13. The following meme is based off of a meme I sent in a Discord server. I doubt those who saw it will even notice I did this, so... I did it again! Because it's funny and weird. This thread: And, more specifically, this meme itself. Because recursion!
  14. I know nothing of it. Should I try to read the SCP Foundation stuff?
  15. Why not spread the knowledge in some other thread? And can't one spread knowledge using only questions?
  16. Sometimes. Sometimes I'm just too occupied with other things, I guess. TPBM has read a book by Adam Rex.
  17. As an experienced stormwarden, I advice you to choose electrum. We are very wise you know. Also, this is part of my scheme to escape the stormwarden ranks!
  18. I'd have endorsed you, but I wasn't approved yet myself as a LotR fan here. I watched the movies a long time ago, and plan to maybe rewatch them someday, but not liking the films is fine, I should think. Everybody should read LotR. But sadly, pushing them to do so tends to make them less willing. I like Tom Bombadil, but he broke my cousin. He never finished LotR due to him - well, partially. My sister survived him, but couldn't bring herself to get to Rivendel. For some, LotR is too long and tedious. Doesn't make it any less good, though.
  19. "Well," said Ben, "um, can we move forward? I don't think we can learn more about this door by staying here. We can check it out later." @Knight of Iron
  20. One comment on the Intentionally Blank episode I liked said that it works only with a finished work; which might explain the consideration of WoBs and such for now. When the Cosmere is finished, though...
  21. All right. This is specifically for Abrahamic religions believers, sorry. Won't really work for Atheists or neo-pagan people or any non-Abrahamic religion. Again, sorry. Anyway, a thought experience: say that somehow, without any the dead come to life or anything like it, you find yourself in a room where there are representatives of every sect in every Abrahamic religion. But that's not really the point, because in the same room, there are four more people present. Those people are Abraham, Moses, David and Nehemiah. I chose each one for his own reason - Abraham being the starter of it all who gave his name to those religions, Moses being the first person to be a straight contact between G-d and a specific group of people and the more practical beginner of this, David being the king from whom the Messiah is to descend from and a generally important figure and Nehemiah being the latest character in the Tanakh/Old Testament. (I guess Muslims will mostly care about the first two, but I don't really know since I didn't learn the Qur'an.) Anyway, your job now is to catch them up to date with what happened since they died. What will you say? You may wrote your answer for only one of them, one reply for all of them, one for each or really every option in between. You can add an answer to how you'll catch Jesus up, or any of his apostles, but this is an addition, since their religious status is nonexistent in other religions. Like mine. I may write my reply later, but other Jews who have ideas - definitely write them. If you think this shouldn't be here, do inform me.
  22. Throw it as far away from me as possible and scream like a little boy who just found out the monster under his bed is real. Also, I believe the current thread canon has it that you always know exactly what the thing you found in your pocket is; perhaps some items have exceptional understanding protection. WWYDIYF an invisibility cloak IYP?
  23. Why good or bad? It is. Inkspren talk aside, I'd say good. I hoped for a moderately large group. Six people was fine, but ten aren't a problem. As long as most people follow the group's reading pace. I think it'd be weird if half the group will be like you. But it appears we have only two of those who read forward, so it'll be fine. Are you sure about that? Some of the emails went in rounds. Time differences could wreak some havock. I do hope none of this would happen, though. Edit: also, even with all the new joiners, I'm still the veteran here. Or so it appears. I would guess that the reason is that activity on the forums usually degrades with time.
  24. All right. I'll invite you all to the PM, too. I really thought we're going to stay with the amount of people we already had...
  25. Israel, so... No. I suffer from Atopic Dermatitis, which gets worse with heat and sweat, and the Israeli summer sun does not spare me. Though my brother can't stand summers here at all without having any similar health issues. Half our land is desert, too (and we don't have much land). Also, I see your point, but take into account publication of new Sanderson content. It raises activity from generally inactive users, I believe, plus encourages people to join. Do you read fanfiction?
