  1. Shanah Tovah, שנה טובה! Are you ready for Rosh HaShanah and Yamim Noraim? Because I'm not certain I am. (Yes, this is a poor try to revive this thread. Help me out, please.)
  2. They were referring to the Sanderson Elimination RP, a game on the forum that's basically werewolf in the Sanderson edition. I also never played it. Sadly, I did not buy a Sanderson book lately. TPBM likes fairytale retelling books.
  3. Whyever would anyone stop doing that? (I stopped. Have no partners...) I do not play any instrument, so sadly no. TPBM joined right after Alcatraz 6's release.
  4. Welcome to the Shard! I was informed you existed through the meme thread, so it seems your plan has worked. As a long time lurker, you probably don't need to get the standard explanations and warnings, so I'll go for: is there something interesting behind your chosen nickname?
  5. Part of the actual answer is that they don't have the rights for the Silmarillion, but you're basically right. There are about 4/5 actual full-length interesting stories in the First Age, and though everything is about the Silmarils (well, almost), it's not that easy to patch them together. You can tell Beren and Lúthien, the Children of Húrin and the fall of Gondolin one after the other in rapid succession... But they need a lot of background on what are the Silmarils, who is Morgoth, who the heck are Turgon, Finrod, Thingol and Orodreth and what's their story, and then, if you want a closed story, you need to explain the Oath of Fëanor and possibly the Kinslayings. And possibly a bunch of other stuff - a side story about a dark elf becomes the origin of Gondolin's fall; why did Turgon and Finrod built Gondolin and Nargothrond in the first place; and... Yup. It's not only extremely long, it's also so complicated taking just a part of it is hard. Plus, you need to choose who to follow, and it has to be an elf, because seriously, you don't get anywhere by keeping your story in such a short time frame. Basically, if you really want to read their source material, it's that appendix of LotR about the Downfall of Númenor, mostly. I think.
  6. I believe I have some of my favorite books listed in my signature. For people on mobile: everything by Diana Wynne Jones or Jonathan Stroud. There are still books of both this authors I didn't read, but those I did are great. If you're looking for a more adult content, I'd recommend from DWJ's books: a Tough Guide to Fantasyland, Dark Lord of Derkholm or Deep Secret. If you don't care about age, I'm going to keep recommending, stuff like His Dark Materials, Animorphs (if you like books about how war is hell), the Underlined Chronicles by Susan Collins (it's underrated, IMO), Seven Wonders and the Last Unicorn. Seriously, read the Last Unicorn. It's amazing, and I see it as a great telling of a mythical story, with well-placed and not too often song breaks. Well, those are my recommendations for now. Hope someone here will like them.
  7. Well... Did you hear about Animorphs? The series I just mentioned? Yeah. I actually wonder, does SA count for a ten book series? Or do all the books have to be out? Anyway... You can find them on the internet for free! Here's a link. It's completely legal. Edit: in the case someone is still confused: Michborn and Thornlight are my sisters. That just was a fine example of siblings being siblings. TPBM has one of their favorite books been fully confirmed to be adapted (Mistborn doesn't count, Brandon didn't say on which book they were talking about adapting).
  8. Would be extremely embarrassed, then check whether it's actually addressed to me. If so, then I'll write an apologetic reply saying I prefer actually talking to people about interesting topics than being admired from afar, and send it using my magical pocket. WWYDIYF said reply letter, which was obviously not addressed to you, IYP?
  9. Well... Seeing to the fact you served my purpose, I don't think so, actually! Ha ha! Also, I just now realized I technically didn't read all 54; some seemed less than interesting. TPBM is confused by the last three comments.
  10. No, I actually don't. I get excited about getting notifications only to learn a forum game I participate in has a few more pages added to it. Now, I do overreact a tad. Forum games are fun, sometimes. It's just that lately, I prefer more interesting discussions. TPBM has read all the books of the Animorphs main series.
  11. Also, another random note: I think that Shadow's appearance marks the first signs of tLT crossing over to the Insanity Clinic, and I think it's worth mentioning. I wouldn't really know, since I never posted in tLT.
  12. That part - the paranthesis - is what convinces me it's not so. Theo is from Mordor, a southern/eastern man. He's no dúnadan. I'm glad you pointed out the canon problems with meteor man being a Balrog, because if you wouldn't have done it I would've. IMO, this is far from a "respectful bent". Then again, maybe I should loose my grip of canon a bit. But I really like the deep worldbuilding that is behind Arda and Tolkien's Legendarium, so chances I'll do that are slim.
  13. It's kind of weird with me, really... I'm not really a superfan of anything, but I've read quite a few books and remember them quite well. It's related because I've read Artemis Fowl, and it was... Nice, I guess (I especially like decrypting the writings at the bottom), but I don't really have a favorite character.
  14. Don't forget the constant war over books. I believe such things repeated a few times during the running of the game. Why am I trying to help summarize an RP I no longer play, especially the parts during which I wasn't present?
  15. I have one (surprisingly specific) problem with the trailer: it mostly looks amazing, but... They substituted a capital E with the Greek letter sigma. I just hope that it won't last, it's stupid and I'm overly pedantic, but still.
  16. A readaptation of that would take some time. First, Disney have to either acknowledge their movie was a failure, or losing the adaptation rights.
  17. I'll try to make a more detailed page 1 summary. Page 1: Calano founds the clinic as Doctor Doom (not the comic book character), and the first clients enter. They soon learn that they're not allowed to get out and random chaos starts. Both Tani and Frustration try to leave, in no avail.
  18. I don't usually see myself as a huge PJ fan, but I did read most of the Trials of Apollo. I personally think Riordan is pushing this franchise a bit far, but I read Brandon, who pitched Mistborn as a trilogy of trilogies and then added four books in the middle, so who am I to judge. It would be interesting to see more mythologies, and I kind of want a bigger crossover than Demigods and Magicians/Percy's cameo in Magnus Chase, but to be fair, so far Riordan did pretty good in retelling myths in a modern setting rather than telling a whole new story with mythological figures, and a crossover will be hard to pull off. Also, I kind of want Hades as a godly parent. He's not the best person, sure, but he's the only one who actually kept his word. And I kind of like Nico, too. Just not in the way you seem to refer to it.
  19. All right. First thing first, don't watch reviews on this. At least, I recommend not to. Let's just say that the series wasn't well received by quite a few people and leave it at that. I made the mistake of watching reviews, and I regret most of it. I do have a few complaints about loyalty to the lore, but the recap of the first age was well done, all things considered. They treaded dangerous ground, since they don't have rights to the Silmarillion, and they did it well - relatively short, without diving into details of the oath, the theft of the Silmarils and the kinslaying. Or the crossing at Helcaraxe (as some reviewer I watched pointed out). All of those are unimportant to the events the series is to talk about. They also mentioned exactly two Valar so far - Mellow and Aulë - but since both are directly connected to our main villain I think it works. The changes in Finrod's death were somewhat annoying - what will happen with Beren and Luthien? - and it was kind of weird that even though Galadriel is the second oldest elf in Middle Earth, no one seems to take that into account. I don't think that the hobbits (or Harfoots. Still something of hobbits, I think) belong in this time period. Still not sure about the mysterious man, but same to him if he's supposed to be of the Istari. More characterization to Celebrimbor is indeed a good idea! And with all my criticism, I still think I enjoyed it, and intend to keep watching. They lack a bit in loyalty to what little source material they have, but it could still be good.
  20. @Emery the Steelrunner
  21. All right, I won't pretend to go over everything you discussed here, but... Did you watch the first episodes? If so, do what do you think of it?
  22. So, Simba is the only one keeping true to the Way of the Question there.
  23. When in a good mood? Definitely. But in that case, I like randomly singing anyway. TPBM like to think of themselves as weird.
  24. All right. Two things: a. You are hereby sued for use of intellectual property of mine - that last meme is clearly a copy of a meme I previously posted here. b. I did not mention the P-fruit in my memes whatsoever, and in any meme I shall make henceforth (probably not many), I shall keep this as a policy. (I'm joking, at least about the sueing part. But I won't mention the P-fruit by name here, only by P-fruit or by p-apple.)
  25. Scream for a moment, then tell her I didn't read any of her books and challenge her to convince me to do so. WWYDIYF magical keys that can open doors for the Library of Everything out of thin air IYP?
