Wayne has had moments like this throughout the series, like Book 1: Book 2: Book 3: There's more but I don't want to go grab everything. It's part of what makes Wayne as a character really fascinating on a reread. He's not only fooling his friends, he's fooling himself, and us by extension.

Okay this was a fun read while wondering why I was @ -- it's definitely would be a wild change! Imo the Fortune is more like "instinct" like anyone in Earth would have, but everyone in the Cosmere has it as Fortune. Here's a truncated WoB that makes me believe this. I tried to find the WoB that made me believe Fortune was also linked to the Spirit Web or Spiritual Realm but couldn't find it. It seems like a fundamental principle is what I mean though, not that he'd need to be tapping or filling Chromium. Then my relation to Wayne gets a bit off the rails but -- Wayne is a traumatized dude with lots of cracks in his spirit web -> spirit realm investiture leaks through those cracks -> part of his coping mechanism is living completely in the moment (or living in a fantasy in his mind) which essentially bases a lot of his actions on chance / instinct -> and it just so happens that instinct is Fortune. So then we get silly things like Wayne drinks the poison tea and steals the Bands-- which are both reasonable things for him to do-- but also just a tad lucky. And because he's constantly living by instinct he seems to get lucky like that more often than others.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Ruin + Preservation = bomb metal because of opposite intent Harmony + Autonomy = super bomb metal because of even more opposite intent The thing that makes me not understand this type of theory is how can godmetal just auto-combine itself. Wouldn't the individual god intents to not combine override this? If you just put any random godmetal near another godmetal will it combine? Or does Harmony's intent of being in Harmony screw himself over and force a harmony with Trellium? Somebody call Khriss lol

I agree completely and thoroughly enjoy that you called us fellow humans. Six years is a long time, and this quote confirms the Set/Trell literally blew up the prison rather than just Edwarn or assassinating folk. So if they had enough (dynamite or ettmetal or ettmetal+Trellium?) to blow up a prison by then, why wouldn't Trell's direct followers have enough in six years to blow up Elendel? It seems reasonable enough. Wait a second... MeLaan is leaving TODAY for Shadesmar. Harmony's liquid perpendicularity might be in Elendel. What if they dumped the super explosive bomb into that, what happens then?

So I was reading another post/WoB somewhere recently, about storing Fortune. How everyone in the cosmere has some base "stat" for "luck / gut feeling / intuition", and it's an actual Spiritual-Realm induced thing. I think it's actually extremely possible that Wayne acting on instinct so much is him accidentally taking advantage of his base-stat of Fortune-- which explains some of the deux-ex-machina feeling things!

Man I was so with this theory until this chapter. Imagine Wayne's story being the message that if you hate yourself, are suicidal, and think you're worthless-- that you should just die and live as someone/something else. Although, I totally trust Brandon to find a way for it to not come across this way, I just can't think of it myself with the facts we have about kandra and this MeLaan relationship currently. I think I'm on the...uh... Shield of the Sword of Harmony bandwagon now?
-
I wish Wax had felt the need to mention which color Harmonium spiked off the graph for! I'm a fan of Autonomy godmetal being able to split Harmony godmetal... Makes a lot of sense intent-wise. But if that's the case what is Wax going to do with a flake of Lerasium? Eat it??? Would he become a Mistborn in book 4?? That seems like too wild a thing to see. New guess is fusion metal that then is more explosive than ever-- which connects back to the explosion back of the book blurb & our thinking Set is sneaking in something in order to create a massive bomb in Elendel.
-
Oh gosh my HEART. The gamut of emotions Brandon has put me through. I always had a feeling Wayne's lucky hat was the way he would pretend to be his caricature Wayne, and this confirmed it in the most painful way possible. And confirmation Wayne is a sex god I mean how do I even....
-
Someone is going to have to ask Brandon about the previous WoBs now.
-
I just noticed her eyes have an epicanthic fold look to them different from the other main four, so now I'm leaning more towards 2nd continent Sel worldhopper that we meet in the 4th book?
-
Here's a bit more credence to the Sophie Tarcsel dividends theory, which I don't think needed proof but since I saw it I figured I'd drop it in. SoS broadsheet: Though a part of me thinks Brandon shows the conclusion of this in BoM when Marasi says this: I think I've re-convinced myself it's Allriandre.
-
Another useful quote. MeLaan does appear to know someone with personal experience if she hasn't gone herself. The someone could be Sazed lore-dumping, but I feel it's more likely another kandra.
-
Really good point... Dang I hope the latter for Marasi but at the same time that's a huge ask to give up your whole country / people for your partner. Maybe... Allik also becomes a worldhopper with her?
-
I agree that worldhopper makes the most sense! Or Mare herself which is a nice but confusing choice for the sticker pack.

It's really looking like next chapter will be our first Wayne POV chapter. I really REALLY hope it's Allriandre whipping Wayne into shape (she should be an established lawyer by now) and not debt collectors due to bendalloy overuse. I don't know if I'm emotionally ready for a tragedy. Some other in-between-the-lines secrets 1. Wayne doesn't appear to have been living with Wax at the tower or MeLaan who's stuff is at the mansion, so does he have his own place? Oh, and he invented Noseball. 2. Allik was wearing an unpainted mask at the end of BoM and now has a painted one, so it's proof he earned back his debt, or whatever cultural equivalent. 3. MeLaan's look may be a clue to where she is going: blonde hair, androgynous, blue trousers? Eh, idk Also, so many dorky moments. I love this group's dorky chaos
-
My instinct was the same, but unfortunately I have to obsess over it with these weekly chapters ugh. Reddi says "this time" implying that someone has come to Wayne looking for money before. We don't yet know if Wayne picked up gambling or investing in the wrong things, he may have. It seems out of character because he's never seemed interested in making more money. If this is the track Brandon is taking Wayne's character though, Wayne has really imploded his life. The only good thing going for him now that MeLaan and he are over is the constable job with Marasi, and that has signs of being over soon as she's wishing for the next big adventure/challenge. I really hope it's the opposite though. Allriandre returning the money and we get some closure there makes the most sense as to why he's running. If Sophie why is Wayne running away? It'd have to be a strings-attached sort of sum. Not sure what the strings could be.

I think what Brandon is forecasting is Trell = Autonomy & the new magic system will be Autonomy's. But because that's obvious maybe that's not what he means. 2nd idea is we're getting Whimsy + India-based planet worldhopper org + whatever Whimsy's magic system is. I've heard a WoB that we're seeing a glimpse of Whimsy this book. As cool as Sel's 3rd continent magic system would be to see, I feel like Harmony + Trell + Whimsy glimpse + threat of Odium + Sel magic system just makes for a really bonkers 140k book.

That makes more sense lol. Then to answer the previous question, the box is the person essentially. So until the tech gets to a version that can hold multiple Allomantic charges it's still a gnat power.
-
In BoM we see the Allomantic grenade with an assumed aluminum charge wipe Wax, and later wipe Marasi and Wayne of Allomantic metal reserves. Definitely not useless anymore
-
Lol I love the idea that Brandon chose 17 just to poke at us. I wonder if in-world reason is Wayne assuming Harmony's 16 + Trell made 17 on Scadrial.
-
I interpreted this to mean Allik was telling them there was more technology than the Malwish in general were sharing, which made sense if the Malwish were keeping secrets in case war did break out. But now based on your comment I can't tell if Allik is lying to our cast. Dang.
-
I was confused as to why Allik wouldn't have snuck Marasi a gold medallion since he's got a thing for her. They must not exist. Or, we'll see her use it to heal her shoulder next chapter. I was very glad for these two sentences because I was so confused on what is and isn't possible with Malwish tech. Interviewing Allik -- is he in town or not? Is he still a pilot or living with Marasi? Maybe we'll know next chapter Also it's good to see Wax getting us into position on his interpretation of Wayne too. Curious on Wayne's interactions with Steris, hopefully next chapter gets us some interaction between them too.
-
This is a tangent but I think I figured out part of the foreshadowing of the prologue. Marasi or Marasi+Wax+Wayne+Steris are going to experience all three of the Allomantic Jak pieces of the story in parts 1, 2, and 3 of TLM. > Jak shoots a man in the eye and flies across the river - Marasi uses the ettmetal cube to fly across the dried chasm & shoots the Cycle in the face. > In a den of snakes a man is injected with poison and melts. - sounds like a Trell F.I. or Kandra melting in a political area. > Into the belly of the beast and making him choke. - The big blow to the Set or Trell. Maybe the infiltration of Bilming, or something very literal like a mini-ascension Edit: and later in the scene we have Wayne's mother saying he's all endless things, which is pretty aligned with other's theories on Wayne going kandra by the end
-
Was rereading BoM and caught this when the Terris steward kills Kelesina: Trell spike let's you heal from death, still not confirmed but probable that you need a Bloodmaker spike too

This theory causes me more pain
