  1. I learned of and watched the Winter's Dragon, a pilot for a Wheel of Time TV series that never happened. By golly, but it was... bad. Some of the acting was decent, but overall... yeesh.
  2. I'm back on my cover kick, with Something Just Like This, because, and I quote, 'I just want to get to the slow-dancing part already'.
  3. I was rereading Eye of the World. I read it about this time last year, but then I went six months before reading The Great Hunt, and subsequently had forgotten almost everything. Plus, I just bought my own copy of EOTW, so I really wanted to use it. Edit: I actually finished EOTW in early August 2020, and read The Great Hunt in March 2021, so closer to eight months. Funnily enough, I just noticed this notification as I finished up Lord of Chaos. I think it's the shortest amount of time I've needed to read a WOT book so far. I started yesterday morning, and it took between seven and ten hours to finish. It was pretty good. The same fairly minor complaints I've had so far. I'm thinking of writing them up, along with what I like, to do something with when I finish the series. Other stuff I've read: Crash by Eve Silver, Specials by Scot Westerfeld, Ben-Hur, Ember by Anna Holmes, Sky Without Stars, The Star-Touched Queen, The Inventor's Secret, and Dark Shores by Danielle L. Jensen. Mostly YA. The Star-Touched Queen was particularly good.
  4. He stares at the battlefield, frowning at how the fight with the creatures is unfolding. He folds his hands neatly behind his back. "I was given many reasons to do just that."
  5. "I'm a soldier, I know my limits." If you don't stop lying by omission, you are going to get yourself hurt, a familiar, terrifying voice whispers from memory.
  6. Happy early Fourth of July to everyone, yes, even my neighbors who are setting off fireworks so loud I can feel them in my chest cavity.

I forgot how much this place starts sounding like a war zone when this day rolls around.

    1. Tesh

      Tesh

Everyone say thank you to the Mongols for Fourth of July fireworks! By everyone I mean the US people... Unless others want to as well, I won't stop you.

      Spoiler

If you weren't aware the Mongols were the ones who spread gunpowder from China (who had been keeping it a secret) to the rest of the world.

  7. Martin gets up and walks out of the tent, hoping that there's something he can do. He shakes his head, trying to clear his thoughts.
  8. "Considering that I'm going to assume - pardon me - that you can't do brain surgery, we're good." He tries for an encouraging smile. It doesn't feel like he does very well.
  9. @Orlionra, thank you! I finished The Fires of Heaven. It turns out that nursing a bad case of allergies from lawn mowing gives one plenty of time to read. A few spoilers I wanted to comment on: Should I go to the WOT board for future books? The further I go in the series, the more commentary I have, and I don't want to put this stuff in the wrong place. I got a lot of books from the library, so I'll probably read Crash and Specials, just to finish off those two series, or maybe Ben-Hur.
  10. Got recommended The Chosen, and watched the whole first season. It's probably the best piece of Christian media I've encountered in the last two years. I'm going to start season two soon, hopefully.
  11. Finished The Eye of the World, and am now reading Fires of Heaven. So far, it's pretty good. Question: could someone tell me the ages of some of the main characters, specifically the Emond's Fielders? I'd go on the wiki, but I don't want to spoil myself.
  12. Something shifts in the Rapier's head, and Martin wakes up. His head aches, and he doubles over. "I want this out," escapes before he can shut his stupid mouth.
  13. Hi, guys!  I'm back!  Tanned, tired, and not really ready for heat, but here we go, whoo boy.

  14. Finished Push and Pretties, so right now I'm rereading Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, and I'll reread The Goose Girl and The Eye of the World next week.
  15. Well, as good a time as any to do this, I guess.  (She says as she procrastinates packing.)

I think some of you already know, but this is my official goodbye-for-now for the next week.  I might swing by on mobile, but I might not have time to.

So, I'll see you then.  *hugs*

  16. None of the Rapier's designated superior officers are present. Protocol dictates that he observe the situation and determine who the commanding officers are, then make any decisions required. He will follow the protocol.
  17. "I will be. I trust you." The numbness is everywhere. Deep breath in, deep breath out. Repeat. He closes his eyes. Deep breath in. Martin goes under. Deep breath out. The Rapier opens its eyes.
  18. "I'm not going to die." Probably. "It's... complicated." Reese had her implant activated for three days once. She was fine. "Just... I'm gonna take things very literally. Probably won't talk. 'That's an order, soldier,' should get me to do most things." His hands are shaking, and he pulls his weapons out and sets them on the ground, before deliberately stepping away from them. Or crawling. That's a better description.
