  1. A player attempting to pass Breath that is executed will indeed not have that Breath count. (They can still put in the action, it just won’t do anything if they actually die.)
  2. Vote Count: |TJ| (2): TheRavenHasLanded, Hoid Slayer TheRavenHasLanded (1): |TJ| KelsierApologist (1): The Wandering Wizard STINK (1): ruler of the mists ruler of the mists (1): STINK Also just a note I renamed the GM PMs to "MR72 GM PM: [Player]" just so they stand out a bit more from the player-player PMs.
  3. MR72 Cycle 2: Sacrifice Kanirah and Genda looked at the assembled crowd. Twelve. Not as many as he'd hoped for, but in truth it was more than he'd expected. It wouldn't be enough Breath to keep Starkeeper safe until support from Hallendren arrived, but it'd be enough to last her most of that time, enough time to find any Hallendren travelers in nearby towns. But as Carmine had pointed out, the set wasn't entirely certain in its intent. A few members, Izmir and Evinir, had been fairly open about their moral opposition to them even being in the city, let alone sacrificing Breath to keep Starkeeper alive. Kanirah was trying to keep remembering that - it was a sacrifice for them. They believed in the sanctity of Breath. Returned specifically, it seemed to vary person to person, but no one seemed particularly happy to be here. Those two in particular. A few others Starkeeper seemed to recognize - she wasn't certain who, or even in what capacity, but Carmine wondered if the Assassins would try to strike again. Kanirah looked down at his handful of notes. Starkeeper had wanted him to say something. She was here, but she was trying to save her strength. She looked quite weak for a god. "I... thank you all for being here. Regardless of your separate opinions, we need all the help as we can get," Kanirah started, trying to find a place for his eyes to rest. His eyes lingered on Simon for a moment. "As I'm certain you've heard, our delegation was mostly killed, our supply of Breath depleted. Starkeeper needs a Breath every week to stay alive. For now, you're all we've been able to source. "We ask you of your Breath. I understand our cultures clash in what that means. The Court of the- of Hallendren is willing to repay you for your gift now, up to tenfold, in money or Breath returned. I know that as an offering may not be worth much, for it is not value you are wishing to hold; I ask that you recognize this as our best to acknowledge this, as an imperfect solution in a time of our need." They'd agreed to that little speech, those papers. It was accurate. Now the words felt bitter, artificial. Kanirah brushed them aside. "... look at Starkeeper. She needs help, only help you can give. Please." That was genuine. Genda gave Kanirah a look, and he felt a slight twinge of shame - he still had his Breath. She'd agreed that it be kept as a failsafe, in case none of the volunteers would give up their Breath in time, but it felt like a misleading. Genda had her Breath as well, of course, but she'd said something about doing such an act being the end of her political career. Kanirah could call her a hypocrite, but he wasn't much different - and he needed her sway. "We'll have Starkeeper in an upper room of the courthouse," Genda said. "If you choose to give your Breath, go there sometime tonight. You needn't tell anyone. In fact, you probably shouldn't. No one will be held responsible if no one acts; simply know what Hallendren will think." And that was that. The morning broke with three things. Starkeeper greeted Kanirah, looking refreshed and alive. Stick was dragged up to the courthouse steps, with claims of espionage on the claimant's lips, which lived until they opened the door. Where they found Izmir, still with soul but dead as stone. - - - Stick. was arrested! They were an Idrian Diplomat! Kasimir was killed! They were an Idrian Diplomat! Vote Count: Stick. (4): |TJ,| The Unknown Flame, KelsierApologist, Hoid Slayer |TJ| (2): Kasimir, Stick. KelsierApologist (1): The Wandering Wizard Cycle 2 has begun! There will be an execution this cycle. The cycle will close on April 12th at 10:00 PM PST, in about 47 hours. Player List:
  4. Time! New cycle up shortly. 12 seconds later because you can't multipost whoops
  5. Wohoo! That was fun. I like having docs. Do think things would have gone quite differently without as many inactives, but what can ya do.
  6. Vote Count (again please correct me if I miss something): |TJ| (2): Kasimir, Stick. Stick. (2): |TJ|, Hoid Slayer TwinStorm (1): The Wandering Wizard
  7. One thing - make sure to vote a player you color the name in Red (and then Green if you wish to unvote).
  8. 12 hours to go! Vote Count: The Unknown Flame (2): Kasimir, Stick. Stick. (2): STINK, Hoid Slayer Kasimir (1): |TJ| Hoid Slayer (1): The Wandering Wizard Let me know if I missed any votes. Also, no >2 player PMs! Just reminding people of that for no particular reason.
  9. I'll also note, on the topic of Autonomy - I wouldn't be too surprised if she had a hand in The Final Empire. She's wary of Scadrial because of their technological advancements being close to Taldain's, and that's after Rashek put technological advancements for a thousand years...
  10. I thought this was a pretty big part of Dalinar's plan (if you can call a vision-and-snap-decision a plan). Honor clearly already is limiting what Odium should have been fairly easily capable of - perhaps Odium wouldn't have been able to easily destroy the Spren of Honor, but if Taravangian hadn't taken up Honor he'd have been free to do with Roshar as he saw fit until either Cultivation or the unVesseled Honor opposed him directly. Meanwhile, Honor is already learning - already thinking about the idea of Honor besides Oaths. As that continues, I think Taravangian will find himself more and more restricted in the whole conquering business. Maybe that ends with a more tempered Retribution, maybe that ends with Honor Splintering itself off Taravangian and then the now-single-Shardic Odium being squashed by Discord. I think it is interesting how the two di-Shards seem to be destabilizing, though. Preservation and Ruin are opposed, nearly diametrically so, and yet lead to a mostly-stable Harmony; and even when Harmony destabilizes, that leads to a different intent of Discord. Meanwhile Retribution is less opposed (both are still willing to do certain things, like grind Dalinar and Hoid into a pulp, apparently), but the Shard seems less like Honor will rebalance the Intent to something more Honorable and more like Honor will just break off entirely. Which might be just a metric of us never really getting a Harmony viewpoint.
  11. Hey all - just a note that my wifi has been acting up (read: nonexistent) today. Hopefully that gets fixed soon or I’ll have other problems in addition to rollover tomorrow, but for now I’ll just be checking things less. I’ll try to get the Spec Doc links sent out to our Specs as soon as that’s resolved.
  12. TUF is correct - there is no player with the role of Starkeeper (or Handler, or anything else). They’re simply a mechanic that needs at minimum one Breath every cycle.
  13. Yes, the Handler is in. (Or more explicitly - the first time Starkeeper fails to get a Breath, the thread is notified that the Handler used his Breath. The second time, Starkeeper dies.)
  14. MR72 Cycle 1: Weakening "I don't know how more explicitly I can say this," Kanirah said to the small gathering, but mostly to Regent Genda, who was rubbing her fingers in an uncomfortable manner. "It took our delegation two months to get through the burned sections of Idris to Bevalis. All of our priests are now dead. That's going to be enough of a disaster for you, when your runner finally makes it back. But now it's just the three of us here, and we have another problem." He waved at himself, Carmine, and Starkeeper. Genda seemed to be trying to convey that her hands were tied, which Kanirah didn't buy for a moment. Carmine was pacing back and forth, seemingly checking the doors, realistically checking on the people within. The two of them agreed. The assassins wouldn't attack them. They'd already gotten what they wanted, unless the citizens of Idris came to their aid. Starkeeper was going over a series of maps and the prior contracts they'd brought. She was trying to make sure they could make something of this; she was also looking for any place they could find nearby Hallendrens. There weren't many. Her spirits were high, as usual, but a few more things betrayed her. She'd wrapped her bloodied hand in a bandage, despite Bevalis' best physicians finding no physical damage. And her skin was getting pale, her motions getting slow. "Carmine's a Drab, because it helps his profession. I have a single Breath. And Starkeeper hasn't had a Breath given to her in six days. You think you have a reckoning now, with some dissidents among your people having attacked our group. And I understand you find it distasteful to give up your Breath. But if Starkeeper the Bright, a member of the Court of the Gods, dies in your city, starved of Life and Breath... that will be war. And not a war you'll win." "Not that anyone wins war," Starkeeper said weakly. "But I... I do not wish to die again. I have more work to do." Kanirah gave her a glance, then returned to staring at Genda, who was wringing her hands more heavily than ever. "... I'll see what can be done," she finally said. - - - Cycle 1 has begun! There will be an execution this cycle (and every cycle), with no vote minimum and ties resulting in a random tied player being executed. As a bit of a reminder, because it's been a while since we've done this: PMs are Open during this game. To make a PM, simply create a 17th Shard PM with yourself, one other (living) player, @Ashbringer, and @Araris Valerian, and you can use it to talk player to player privately. Do note that normal SE rules apply, and in addition you cannot use PMs during rollover (same as any Doc). Also, please title the PM "MR72: PlayerName - PlayerName" or something similar. The cycle will close on April 10th at 10:00 PM PST, in about 47 hours. Player List:
  15. Alright! GM PMs and Cycle 1 should be out shortly!
  16. Welcome to SE! About 2.5 hours until signups close!
  17. He made a promise not to harm people during the peace. Spren were seemingly excluded even from the start; the Azimir Shadesmar fleet was originally going to attack Lasting Integrity before Taravangian rerouted it. (Not sure if it was intended to take the city before the contest or after, but it was still on the table.) Likewise, there probably was no "Odium can't use the power of Honor to delete the spren" Oath because Hoid had no idea that there was something worse than his worst-case scenario. Honor didn't seem to care much for the spren, but Honor didn't seem to care much for the people either - just the Oaths, which was Dalinar's point.
  18. Up to you - I've got 3 pinch hitters, which should be enough but sometimes it's the more the merrier. But also you should decide before the game starts and I give you access to a Spec Doc Speaking of which - about 48 hours left until signups close! I think I'll start on schedule with 11 players, assuming nothing major changes since then. Also @Araris Valerian, are you still Designated IM or will I get / do I need to find another one?
  19. I think if all the Investiture of the Stormfather was turned into heat, Dalinar, Gavinor, and probably most of Urithiru would have turned into a very crispy memory.
  20. Retribution didn’t kill the Stormfather. Odium did. Taravangian took up Honor afterwards. As for why Honor permitted itself to join after - the Stormfather agreed with Dalinar essentially betraying Honor, and Honor and Tanavast-Stormfather were already on tenuous ground. And both Shards clearly want some level of power - Honor seemingly has no problem with Retribution drawing out the Light from Roshar, and seemingly had no problem with Retribution attempting to draw the spren until the Oathpact blocked it. The barrier might also be there for more mundane threats - Retribution has decided to uphold his end of the bargain, but the Fused may decide otherwise. I’m not sure a barrier of glass and energy would stop Retribution himself if he had a mind and ability to flatten Urithiru.
  21. For an MR, days and nights are combined into one 48-hour turn. But good point, I’ll make sure I add that. And welcome!
  22. You might be able to bring down a Magnified One using ropes or chains, if used while they’re healing - as that might leave the carapace healing over the chain to stick to them. Husked, probably the best bet would be to have a sniper watching their spren-form ready to shoot them (preferably with something like a Grandbow) when they appear. Masked, physical contact - I think they just make visual/audio illusions so just give people a pat-down or something. Focused… depends what it costs them to coil up. Probably just run. Maybe hit them with a catapult, and then run.
