LG 106 - Aftermath: A Ruinous Wrath
Ashbringer replied to Araris Valerian's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It was a long time before AraRaash resurfaced in the ruins of Blackkeep. Partially because he wanted to stay far away from those who had wanted poor John Doe to die a second time. Partially because, even for an individual as powerful as he was, being buried under a few tons of newly-formed rock was very annoying. But, he couldn't sense anything else living or deifiing around, and for some reason he was still here. And if his schedule on Scadrial's timeline was correct, he really, really shouldn't be. The Catecendre was right around the corner, and he couldn't leave without Faleast... but had he mentioned being buried under tons of rock was annoying? Well. He ought to do something about that. Either this world had diverged much more than it would seem, or Faleast was still here, as this world's native AraRaash hadn't forcibly ejected him from paradoxical existence, so he just had to... AraRaash. You need to get out of there. Come to the mountain. "I... Faleast? What?" I had to hide. Ruin was searching for me; I'm not sure how he caught a glimpse or if he's just afraid Endowment will interfere with Preservation. "Are... did you hide in the mountain? Because of Identity? Mount Faleast, I don't know if I should..." Oh. Oh no. Ruin's going to use the mountain to destroy the city. I need to leave. We need to leave now. Something went cold in AraRaash's bones. "Faleast, that was weeks ago.." I know you're working on something. I'm sorry. AraRaash felt the familiar pull of the Lifeline - now Strifeline - dragging him out. "But Faleast, that already happened-" -

"John is my first name," John 'Doe' Derrick stated. "Or given name, depending on your view." "But that is, to some degree the point - why fear a tie? If two suspects you have, and one will die from the tie just by random happenstance, then-" Derrick suddenly got a chill to the back of his spine. One he hadn't felt in a very, very long time. Not since... since the last time he'd been Derrick. Not Ruin. Not even the return of Faleast as a voice. Something worse. The realization of something, without a voice to say it. Derrick suddenly pulled out a mass of paper, flipping hurriedly through his marker of town names and codes and - oh, there it was. That little clause. "Ah," Derrick said, sheepishly scratching the back of his head. "I, uh... may have misunderstood Var's situation?" -

"But is that the choice you were given? You picked Lijal at first, and at last. But when the die was to be cast between Lijal and Astrid, you picked Astrid instead, until Madiane urged you otherwise," Derrick replied. "Why?" At this Derrick shrugged. "I was preoccupied, what with the whole..." he waved vaguely at his sufficiently-scratched face. I believe I mentioned as much earlier. I didn't have a real opportunity to review why Lijal was a target, being new to the city and all, and I didn't like it but also had no arguments against it. Meanwhile, folks like Antari are still absent, particularly despite being at least partially in... outside correspondences, one might say?" "As for my list, the names selected were the, for lack of a better word, "softer" suspicions. I don't think Jox would hire someone to remove his largest detractor, but someone less interconnected to Copper seems more likely." "Mil and Var perhaps beat you to that punch, old soldier," Derrick said, grinning a bit too wide. "Whose life, and whose death? And as Mil notes, will it lead to second death for Astrid? Not immediately. Though perhaps I was misremembering how this works... it does vary bout to bout. Sometimes people line up for you, sometimes it's a wave. Or perhaps I'm just being dramatic," he finished, and gave a small bow. He smacked his lips. All this talking... he didn't talk too much, did he? Well. -

Derrick had strode into town with a new look and a new purpose. It had taken him a while to get some new clothes, a bit of a hairdo, and to properly bandage himself up instead of just looking fresh as a daisy after surviving a mountain fall. Nothing too over the top, just some bandages. Too many people had seen him wandering around yesterday, and anyway, he had somewhat of a survivor's reputation to uphold. "So, where is everyone?" he said to the crowd. "And I mean that in the most figurative sense, seeing as we're all gathered here. But where have you left the important parts of yourselves? The drive? The zeal? The urge of you all to not rusting die? We made a bad call yesterday, or perhaps just you, and now someone new in town is dead and done without a way back. Now Copper's been killed by the Spiked, if the entire council wasn't enough." "Now, I'm not free of hypocrisy on that. But I," Derrick said, holding a nearly-blank sheet of paper above his head, "had a notice. And I'm done with that now. Free! Mostly. So. We need a plan, one that doesn't rely on just picking someone." He grabbed a stick from somewhere and began scratching on the road, before realizing that the cobblestones wouldn't make a good dirt. Derrick instead grabbed his notice and began scratching. "Copper first suspected Jox, and was connected to Kéamen. He also was connected to several other unsavory types, but something tells me that's not uncommon for us all. He also gave the strange boon, in that he had a compilation of his final thoughts, in which he urged investigation primarily of..." he looked at his board. "Jox, Mil, Derrick, Fox. Interesting. They later noted Jox was looking better, but was suspicious of Kéamen and wanted Astrid to be more strongly investigated." "So," Derrick said, borrowing Keldorn's proverbial soapbox, "Who would do that, among us? The six Copper investigated would be a good start, with subtraction of myself, or perhaps not. And subtract Astrid, who I think would be too missing to set a hit on our Stopper - but is still a fair target, as far as I'm considered." "Who among that? I think Mil and Fox would benefit the most, not being as direct as Jox. But I actually want to pick another target." "Var, you had the choice between life and death, or death and death. How did you chose?" -

Derrick held a note in his hand. Smoother than one that had perhaps been seen on this planet in a long time, containing information they wouldn't find out for centuries. It was keeping him busy. Doctor's Orders, seeing as a recently-perhaps-nearly-deadman should get some things done. But soon, tomorrow, it would be done. Then there would be some debts to be paid. -

Derrick paused. He thought he’d voted for Antari. But he supposed Soothers did different things now, and it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. -

"Unfortunately, Var's right - not acting today is a poor idea," Derrick said, pushing off the wooden pillar he'd definitely been leaning on the moment before. "Well, I should say Var's right about that particular instance. I'm still in a bit of doctor's orders, so I haven't caught too much." "That being said, I'm here all week, especially all days not today. A few others I don't believe are here at all. Has anyone seen Lipitor, or Teel, or Antari? The last one seems more surprising to be gone."- 294 replies

Long Game 106: On the Shores of The Black Lake

Turns out, doctors can be quite talkative people once you've assured them you're not a panicked hallucination or incarnate mistwraith. Technically, AraRaash was the second, but he didn't see much reason to tell the doctor that now that he was sipping a hot drink in shaky hands. They'd put a few things together, the two of them. AraRaash - or John Doe, or Derrick, or whatever name this corpse used to own - had been found at the base of the mountain after evidently taking the very short way down from the top of it. He'd bled to death, then suddenly regained consciousness, conveniently with some level of memory loss. From there he'd assured the doctor - Marwin, his name - that he wasn't here to claim his soul. That left just one really, really important thing. "Please tell me this isn't Tyrian Falls," AraRaash said, the desperation in the back of his neck overriding the want to ask more discreetly. "No, we're in Blackkeep," Marwin replied, seemingly relieved to be discussing something other than the apparent resurrection of the definitely-human in front of him. "Tyrian's a good bit that way. Why, you have business there?" "No! No. A long time ago, I did, and it... didn't end well. I'd stay away if I were you. Still too many koloss." Granted, that 'long time ago' was on the order of multiple centuries, when he'd gone looking for a certain element. They'd found it, him and Faleast, but then they'd gotten themselves snuffed. And it still took them a dozen different methods to get out of that anomaly. Second-worst timeloop he'd gotten himself into. At least the Strifeline was being interesting. Did he have that element? Or was that a yet-to-happen? "Oh, I'm afraid that won't be a problem," Marwin said. "City's under lockdown. Too much going on." "Ah. Secretive faction that needs to be dealt with before they kill too many of us?" "What?" "We'll see soon enough," Derrick said, grabbing a coat that seemed to have mostly survived the mountain fall. "Now, I thank you for not burying me, but I still need to get some air." And he left the little office, leaving Marwin stammering behind. Time to find Faleast, and find what was happening in Blackkeep.- 294 replies

Long Game 106: On the Shores of The Black Lake
Ashbringer replied to Araris Valerian's topic in Sanderson Elimination
... ah, who am I kidding. You will become one of us and you will join us and we will escape and we will be free and leave the anomaly and become the world and become alive and - AraRaash opened his eyes to a sea of white. Well. That had been unpleasant. Whatever Area X had been, it'd been enough to both catch him off-guard and powerful enough that the Strifeline pulled both him and Faleast out of there, while his duplicate went off to whatever adventure he had in store. Wait... he wasn't the duplicate, was he? AraRaash predicted he'd know it in his bones, but that world... well, he'd had hopes with its mutagenics he'd get something in return, but now he was glad the Strifeline was acting up. Slightly. This body still wasn't his own, as much as a kandra could have one of their own. Something was still wrong, though. Something else. What was there... this brain was obsessed with maps. He could probably get around to anywhere from here with Faleast's intel, even before this brain decided to clue him into where exactly they were. Well, best way to do that is go around a bit. AraRaash tried to get up, only for the whiteness in front of him to push back. Angrily he shoved it off of himself. Several things happened after that. The first thing he noticed, oddly, was the large amount of ash piled on the shuttered windowsill. Well, that narrowed down where he was a good bit. Scadrial, Final Empire. Good to be home, if a bit terrifying. The second was the amount of medical equipment scattered over the walls, and on the desk the young man was sitting at. Third - bah, he was getting sloppy - he noticed the young man at about the same time that he noticed him looking about. The young doctor promptly fainted. It was at this point AraRaash noticed things four, five, and six: that the whiteness over his eyes had been a bedsheet covering his head, that that white sheet was red in not a small number of places, and those red splotches corresponded to several now-rebleeding parts of his rather unclothed body. "Well, this is going to be hard to explain," AraRaash said. The doctor did not respond. Neither did... "Faleast?" Signing up as John Doe Derrick, a licensed scout and cartographer, who may or may not be very dead at this current moment under mysterious circumstances. Also signing up as AraRaash, a licensed multiverse hopping kandra extraordinaire, who may or may not have unintentionally eaten John and is currently looking for his seemingly missing ghost. Just a note I'll be around but somewhat less active the first cycle due to my finals schedule, but after that I'll... well I'll still be busy but not in such a dramatic fashion. -
Well, one past GM did the naming thing right and one past GM didn't One of us did it right The other one of us is me

Long Game 105: Obliteration
Ashbringer replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ooookay. So, I'm busy, clearly. I also keep finding useless things. So my ability to stay engaged is somewhat limited. That being said, where is everyone Is there a plan? Or just hunt for separate wincons? I think I'm going to go for the Village again, seeing as TJ found something there, unless anyone else has ideas.
