  1. "someone who could bear this power with honor." --- Hear me out... I know the h is lowercase and all... but isn't it possible that she means this literally? It's obvious that she hasn't gained the trust or loyalty of Teravangian yet; but I think she intends to tempt him with the power of Honor now, fully expecting that he will integrate the shard into Odium (using the Rhythm of War somehow, perhaps?) and in so doing, gain a sense of Honor which would make him feel as if he owes her for everything she has done for him... It makes sense that she would have thought this through past killing Rayse. This new monster of a Shard, War, might just be exactly the tool someone like Cultivation would want in order to get back at those who have wronged her and caused the death of her husband Tanavast. Thoughts?
  2. That's interesting! Imagine if they did the same to Odium. 9 Passion Shards sound a lot less dangerous than one Odium. This death rattle plays into the broken Honor theory really well too. Perhaps it predicts the end of book 5 or 10? Maybe Kaladin or Dalinar take up only part of Honor, therefore earning the title "Broken One" (it fits Kaladin so well though, don't you think?)
  3. Not explicitly, but it felt implied to me that she was when she was younger based on a whole inner monologue she did about how big of a waste of time having a once-mate would be or something... I have the feeling she may have changed her mind with Demid though? Lots of stuff about her life between flashbacks feels implied to me so its hard to say anything with certainty. My memory is very flawed so take everything I've said here with a grain of salt. I'll keep an eye out on my second readthrough though
  4. I never got the vibe that singers didn't have romantic feelings outside of mate form. In fact, I think Venli specifies that she was kind of the odd-one-out for being aromantic in a RoW flashback. I could have misinterpreted it though...
  5. Are you sure?! I can assure you that you get used to the smell very quickly! Thanks Lol, it's meant to be given meaning by the reader so both of those and more could work for the title
  6. My bad, didn't catch that! Thanks for sharing.
  7. That's a very black and white viewpoint to take on a character who has always been morally gray and consistently contrary to coercive power structures. Why can't it be somewhere in between? Not even the most effective of leaders has complete control of their people, and its unlikely Thaidakar sent Mraize to Roshar with much more than a couple of prime directives... most likely of which are "Get Stormlight off Roshar" and "Find out how cognitive shadows can move around." Unless he has changed a lot.... EDIT: I missed the entire second page of this topic. apologies if I'm being repetitive... EDIT EDIT: Okay, after reading everything else, this argument makes more sense to me. I would honestly say that by your definition of effective leadership that Thaidakar is and always has been a failure of a leader, since he puts moral decisions on the heads of his followers quite often.
  8. Do we know that Sazed could make more Lerasium? I know he made Spook a Mistborn, but that was very early into his Shardhood and I don't think it was specifically done with the metal.
  9. Honestly, friend, anywhere is better than this rock. Have you ever met a puppy? It's an experience I highly recommend. You could jump into that pool and walk in any direction and you'd probably find one... after awhile... if you survived... actually, forget I said anything. You probably wouldn't. Thank you very much
  10. It's reasonable to assume that they have, considering that the Heralds are of similar age to the oldest fused, and I believe we have a Herald mentioning Adonalsium by name? I'm leaning most heavily toward this idea too. It makes the most sense considering everything BAM has been mentioned alongside -- the pure tones, those who are truly of Roshar, etc.
  11. Thank you glad to be back!! Thank you very much!! Good to see you Honorless!! thanks
  12. Makes sense. I'd forgotten this WoB. Now the question seems to be if that property of lerasium transfers to harmonium or not, because we know atium couldn't just be burned by just anyone.
  13. Fascinating idea, is it possible that the forged nightblood would consume it's own stamp in the process though? I assume these stamps operate by pulling investiture from the cognitive realm so I'm guessing that the sword would pull on the stamps connection there immediately at the very least.
  14. That's pretty questionable evidence, considering that Hoid is technically of all 16 shards (assuming he is "of" Adonalsium) therefore he would have the same sort of connection to the powers that a Scadrian would have. To be certain we'd really need someone from Nalthis or elsewhere to use a godmetal.
  15. I think due to the nature of his shard's Intent, Harmony would have trouble stopping Odium completely, but might be a very powerful moderating force on him. Ruin would absolutely love Odium's intent, but Preservation would be all for stopping Odium's death march. I think that combined they would keep Odium from going overboard, but be completely incapable of stopping him.
  16. Now this is interesting... There are a few possibilities: 1) Perhaps (most likely) he can see spren, and saw the cryptids following her around afterwards? 2) It could be that, just as a radiant would be visible to him as a heavily invested entity, so would a radiant who had broken oaths? I think we have reason to believe that he would find this even more shocking, considering the recreance was so long ago, and he's been in and out of Shadesmar many times since, enough to know that no new deadeyes had popped up, perhaps? It's possible her memories aren't fully suppressed, or suppressed at all at this point? I absolutely can't wait to reach this point on my SA reread now
  17. So cool. This is a fantastic post Welcome to The Shard!!
  18. I have two words for you: 4X ...okay technically that's a number and a letter, but hopefully you see my point. Daniel Greene mentioned this on his guest appearance in Shardcast and the idea hasn't left my head ever since. "Total War: Roshar" I can see it now!
  19. Is it just me or is it warmer on these mountains since Rayse did that one thing? You know the thing. Anyways, I'm back. Please, no need to bow, I know you silly people keep referring to me as a god! I can assure you I'd never be so dimwitted as to take on THAT burden intentionally. Can any of you point me to the nearest chowda den? I have no idea why but I've been having the most intense craving for that soulcast mush... Okay, I'll stop roleplaying as Wit for enough time to tell you all that I'm back and I'm sorry that I left; but the last year has been pretty crazy and I missed this place!! Talk to you all soon
  20. Welcome Sara!! Thank you for that amazing treat of an introduction post. You'll fit right in here.
  21. Use wordy descriptions of things before getting to the punchlines. Write something humorous first; then if it's a bit crass, or not formal enough, edit it into something more "proper" while retaining the humor. Think about how Hoid operates when he's Wit. Consider silly things for far too long, then suddenly get very serious with a sentance or two. Make fun of things about people which most would just ignore, or not even notice. Stuff like that should help you find the voice.
  22. That's really interesting. I always just thought that they had experts ready to retrieve the blades if they were lost, but this makes me think that there may be some sort of remote retrieval method for the honorblades? Like an ancient artifact left in Shinovar that operates like an oathgate that retrieves blades? Also, I wonder if the stone shamans are related to operating this 'bladegate'? These stones seem extraordinarily important after RoW.
  23. Has it gone up and I’ve missed it somewhere?!
  24. I grow more and more convinced on each reread that he writes the epigraphs alongside his outlines.
