  1. Hardly, Khriss theorizes in Ars Arcanum that there are only 16. And there is also what Sanderson said: Questioner For the space Mistborn are we going to have more elements? Brandon Sanderson The base 16 are basically it. But the interactions between them and things. And there is one more metal, there is harmonium, so you will hear about that later on. Salt Lake City Comic-Con 2014 (Sept. 4, 2014)
  2. I suppose Universal Metalminds too. A beautiful way to have all the feruchemical attributes stored in a single metalmind. Imagine Compounding this.
  3. That is what is in the table. The person who wrote it probably had access to more knowledge than shown so far. But what those effects would be is complicated. Lerasium only saw Elend using it, and he was half-dead.
  4. Just remembering that creating Misting are side effects, not the main thing. Lerasium produces several expanded Physical and Enhacements effects.
  5. In-World. Phantine Is this hemalurgy table also a speculative in-universe document (like how the RPG had atium spikes only stealing temporal, because that's what the steelies believed)? Peter Ahlstrom It is an in-world chart according to the knowledge of some people at a certain stage in the history of Scadrial. [Edit: not Roshar, sorry. Also it’s not Khriss.] General Reddit 2019 (Jan. 5, 2019) About Lerasium, we're not sure what Attributes should mean. It can be just human attributes (like strength, memories, etc.) or it can be anything from the hemalurgical table (which I find difficult). Still, it would not be strange if Lerasium is more powerful in Hemalurgy than Atium, even if the latter is Ruina's metal, Lerasium is much more invested.
  6. Well, Aluminum and Duralumin are the most useless metals for this technological level (and even in Era 2 this is still true).
  7. Yeah, Feruchemists use all metals. What book are you in?
  8. Let me give you an example. If you are a Full Feruchemist, you could use a metalmind of Blanked Identity to use anyone's metalmind of any power (you already have all the possible feruchemical powers). If you are a Trueself and use a Blanked Identity metalmind, but also have another ferochemical power, let's say Gold (either with medallions or spike), you could use any Gold metalmind. In case you are any Ferring, let's say Gold again, and get a way to use Aluminum (either with a medallion or spike again) you could just as easily use any Gold metalmind. [...] “Each man or woman has a Spiritual aspect, a piece of themselves that exists in another Realm entirely. You might call it your soul. Your Investiture is keyed to your soul—indeed, it might be a part of your soul, much as your blood is a part of your body.” “So if a person could store their Identity,” Marasi said, “as Waxillium does with his weight…” “They’d be without it for a time,” VenDell said. “A blank slate, so to speak.” “So they could use anyone’s metalmind?” Marasi asked. “Possibly,” [...] “Some have been experimenting with your idea,” VenDell said, “and early results are promising. However, having a Feruchemist who can use anyone’s metalminds is intriguing, but not particularly life-changing. Our society is strewn with individuals who have extraordinary abilities—this would simply be one more variety. [...] The Kandras who decided to focus more on unkeyed metalminds. Because it can create metalminds that anyone can use, not just those who are Trueself and another type of Ferring (as far as they knew, only hemalurgists) or a lucky man who was born Full Feruchemist.
  9. Not according to the Kandra theory. Perhaps they are wrong, but according to VenDell "Some have been experimenting and early results are promising". And the Kandras were right about the possibility of creating unkeyed and unsealed metalminds, as well as about the Bands. And we know that Blanked Identity is not enough for you to use any metal mind. What we are saying is that you can use someone's metalmind if you are also a Ferring of the right type, or a Full Feruchemist. Of course, this usually requires that you have a medallion that gives you that power as well, since the second possibility is much more complicated.
  10. The Kandras theory is that someone who stores their Identity completely can access someone else's metalminds. My confusion here was that as Ruin no longer exists I thought that the metalmind would be corrected for correct information, but rereading Sanderson's answer I start to think that it is not. The metalminds of the Keepers remain corrupted, that if they still exist.
  11. Wait, so now that Ruin doesn't exist, are the metalminds of the past reliable? Coppermind archeology really needs to be a thing in Era 3.
  12. Sorry, but where exactly do you think Harmony is intervening too much? Because this whole saga is about another god invading your domain, distorting your magic system and corrupting your sacred servants. It would be strange if he looked at all this and thought "solve the problem if you can, if not the planet that is destroyed". As he said, he is just avoiding the worst. If it seems that he is intervening so much, it is because we are seeing events through an elite group that he uses to prevent the end of the world.
  13. I think the combination of F-Steel, F-Pewter and F-Gold for a Thug is incredible. Strength, speed and health up there. Use A-Peltre's passive bonus to fill your metal minds, while maintaining your average status while storing. Join the police and be the badass policeman of all. A backup of A-Iron, A-Steel and F-Iron is also very good. Not only can you fly, but you can control your weight for every push and pull, not to mention compouding. Use it to get to the crime scene.
  14. No, is End-Positive, it comes from the power of Preservation.. Feruchemy is End-Neutral, and Hemalurgy is End-Negative.
  15. It makes me wonder how strange it is for Malatium not to affect objects, whereas Atium does. It probably has something to do with the fact that it is just an Alloy, and not exactly the opposite pair of Atium (since it has 15 other combinations).
  16. Well, I understand your point, but I wouldn't trust Ruin much. Preservation did the complete opposite of that in the end, and also exchanged two of its basic powers of Alomancy for powers of Ruin (One of them very good at causing death). The answers below also make me think that the fact that the metal is metabolized is to return the Investiture used back to Preservation. While technically Shards are infinite, Vessels have a limit on how much power they can use at once . Not consuming the metal is likely to lower that limit more and more ((It consumes Shard's body directly!), which is why the Shards avoid directly fueling magic systems. Other types of Focus should have similar motifs. So the Focus serves to use the power of the Shard directly from the spiritual realm (without affecting the Vessel), while the Vessel fueled the magic system drains from its own potential. Master_Moridin Why does Preservation fueling Allomancy not weaken Preservation compared to Ruin? Brandon Sanderson Because the power, once used, returns to him--much as water, after passing over a turbine, continues on in its system. 17th Shard Forum Q&A (Sept. 28, 2012) Kaimipono Allomancy is fueled by Preservation's body? How exactly does that work? And how does that interact with Atium—it's fueled by both gods' bodies? Brandon Sanderson The powers of Ruin and Preservation are Shards of Adonalsium, pieces of the power of creation itself. Allomancy, Hemalurgy, Feruchemy are manifestations of this power in mortal form, the ability to touch the powers of creation and use them. These metallic powers are how people's physical forms interpret the use of the Shard, though it's not the only possible way they could be interpreted or used. It's what the genetics and Realmatic interactions of Scadrial allow for, and has to do with the Spiritual, the Cognitive, and the Physical Realms. Condensed 'essence' of these godly powers can act as super-fuel for Allomancy, Feruchemy, or really any of the powers. The form of that super fuel is important. In liquid form it's most potent, in gas form it's able to fuel Allomancy as if working as a metal. In physical form it is rigid and does one specific thing. In the case of atium, it allows sight into the future. In the case of concentrated Preservation, it gives one a permanent connection to the mists and the powers of creation. (I.e., it makes them an Allomancer.) So when a person is burning metals, they aren't using Preservation's body as a fuel so to speak—though they are tapping into the powers of creation just slightly. When Vin burns the mists, however, she'd doing just that—using the essence of Preservation, the Shard of Adonalsium itself—to fuel Allomancy. Doing this, however, rips 'troughs' through her body. It's like forcing far too much pressure through a very small, fragile hose. That much power eventually vaporizes the corporeal host, which is acting as the block and forcing the power into a single type of conduit (Allomancy) and frees it to be more expansive. Hero of Ages Q&A - Time Waster's Guide (Oct. 15, 2008)
  17. Well, we don't have enough information about gold and malatium to know the difference between the use of the two, and what the mental component of the latter would be. But Word of Sanderson and the allomantic table establish that all alloys have Mental and Temporal components.
  18. Did you finish reading The Final Empire?
  19. I don't think it could work like that, because all alloys also have temporal effects. I honestly have a hard time trying to guess 14 more Temporal And Mental abilities for the other alloys.
  20. Wax is a great guy, but he sucks when it comes to Marasi.
  21. I like her a lot, she and Wayne are my favorites in Shadow of Selfs. Becoming a police officer was the best decision, even though her idea as a lawyer was also nice. Who knows, maybe one day, for now, she will be a very good connection for both groups. Perhaps one day she will become Constable-General, her knowledge would go a long way in maintaining order in at least one of the Octants. She is also very interesting in the Bands, but Steris and Meelan shine more than anyone in that.
  22. If anything, Steris is the best character in Bands of Mourning, for me.
  23. I remember when I finished, I was very sad too. But not necessarily annoyed with Harmony, he is a Shard of balance between two totally opposing forces. But I was very concerned about Scadrial's future, and how willing to free will Harmony was willing to give to everyone. I was less worried after ending Bands. No one would do this job better than Sazed, for more flaws and failures he has ever had.
  24. The gods do not create the magic system, they fueled the magic system. Not to mention that the metal is not being destroyed, it is being transformed into Investiture. That can one day be replaced with the use of Soulcasters. And there is also the possibility for humans to find a way to connect to Preservation without using metals as a focus. Chaos Allomancy provides many very dramatic effects, which some have noted is not very much like Preservation. Could you walk me through how Allomancy is of Preservation, though it does dramatic, dynamic things? Brandon Sanderson One of the 'basics' of the magic in all of the worlds is that the energy of Shards can fuel all kinds of interactions, not just interactions based on their personality/role. I did this because otherwise, the Magics would all be extremely limited. The 'role' of the Shard has to do with the WAY the magic is obtained, not what it can do. So, in Preservation's case, the magic is a gift--allowing a person to preserve their own strength, and rely upon the strength granted by the magic. While Hemalurgy has a huge cost, ending in net entropy. - Brandon Sanderson Chapter Thirty-Eight Preservation's Power All right, so maybe I lied about there only being three magic systems in this book. It comes down to how you term the powers of Preservation and Ruin, who kind of blanket the entire system. There are a lot of things going on here, and—well, the truth is I don't want to mention all of them, for fear of spoiling future books. However, I'll give you a few rules to apply. First, to these forces, energy and mass are the same thing. So, their power can take physical shape—as Preservation's did in the bead of metal Elend ate. Second, there is a bit of Preservation inside of all the people—and it's this that allows the people to perform Allomancy. It needs to be awakened and stirred to be of use, but when it is, a proper metal can draw forth more of Preservation's power. It's like the metal attunes the bit within the person, allowing it to act as a catalyst to grab more power. Allomancy is not fueled by metal; it is fueled by Preservation. The metal is the means by which a person can access that fuel, however. If there were another way to access it, then the metal wouldn't be needed. Preservation's touch on people differs. Some have more, some have less. This doesn't make them better or worse people—indeed, some most touched by Preservation have been among the worst people in the world. As Ruin later points out, there is a difference between being evil and being destructive. Regardless, if a person can get more Preservation into them, they become better Allomancers. Hence Elend becoming a Mistborn. Like all people, he had the potential within him—it was just too small of a potential to be awakened through normal means. That little jolt of Preservation's body, however, expanded and awakened his Allomancy. As a tidbit, that was a side effect of what that bead of metal did. It wasn't the main purpose of the bead, and if another Allomancer were to burn it, it would do something else.
  25. It seems very strange to me that Atium would use "Any Power" and Lerasium "All abilities" if they meant the same thing. If so Lerasium would say "All powers".
