All solid choices, yes, which one is your least favourite Cosmere book though, the one you couldn't get into or one that you think isn't as good as the others?

How could Notum's father be a deadeye?
Honorless replied to LeahAstonished's topic in Cosmere Discussion
@LeahAstonished, you should probably put that in the typos and errors thread, it looks like a continuity error. Although, it is Brandon, so there might be something more to it (looks at Mistborn). Hmm... there's also the bit on the boat when Formless is referred to as "he", we don't really know whether that's an error or not, as we don't actually see Formless in this book. -
As others have said, Lirin's oaths have parallels to both Windrunners and Edgedancers. Bondsmiths... he's not really suited to it, imo.

Why have no genocide happened on singers?
Honorless replied to Alicila's topic in Stormlight Archive
I just thought Honor and Cultivation stopped any such attempts by the Humans or perhaps it was part of the Oathpact or the compact between the Honor and Odium that the two species wouldn't try to preemptively strike at one another between Desolations/Returns -
Rayse's influence on Nightblood
Honorless replied to A Radiant In Shiny Armor's topic in Stormlight Archive
Collecting Breaths from people has an effect on the Awakener So, it might have an effect on Nightblood... but I don't feel that it would have any noticeable effect. Also, Nightblood leaks: so whatever effect it might have would be temporary, if that, because he Corrupts whatever Investiture he consumes (and he can apparently consume all types of Investiture).- 4 replies

Polls: Which book has the best interludes, epigraphs, flashbacks?
Honorless replied to Elegy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have lots of interludes I like, guess I'll have to pit them against one another by book. WoK had Szeth the Assassin in White, Axies the Collector, Ishikk the Purelaker, Baxil & Av with Shalash talking about the Nightwatcher, Geranid & Ashir the experimenters, Rysn in Shinovar, Nan Balat; WoR had Eshonai the Listener, Rysn in Reshi Isles, Taravangian Boon/Bane testing and the Diagram, Ym and Lift, Zahel and Taln, Szeth in Urithiru, Lhan and Pai in Kholinar; Oathbringer had Venli and the Fused, Ellista the Ardent reading steamy romance, Kaza the Soulcaster trying to reach Aimia, Sheler and the Herdazian General, Teft the addict and Taravangian plotting, Puuli the Lighthouse Keeper looking at the Origin, Mem washerwoman of Mraize where we hear of Aethers and see Shalash again; RoW had Taravangian, Sja-Anat and Syl, Lift's Boon/Bane, Hesina talking to Lirin, and Adin... It is extraordinarily difficult to pick a favourite... WoR or WoK... okay, I choose WoK simply because of how I felt when I reached the interludes while I was reading that book. It felt like a beautiful vacation across Roshar. Best epigraphs go to Mistborn original trilogy, hands down. If I had to choose from Stormlight then Hessi's Mythica, the letters and the Urithiru Gemstone archives ensures Oathbringer a win. Not that the rest of them are far behind. The letters in all the books were great and RoW in particular was heart-stopping. All the eponymous in-world books are beautiful too, but the way the Way of Kings fits in Oathbringer (both in-world Oathbringer and the Stormlight book) also gives another point to OB. WoR's info on the Radiants was delicious and the Death Rattles from WoK are epic too. Flashbacks comes down to Kaladin and Dalinar. I like Kaladin better, though Dalinar's flashbacks were absolute backbone of Oathbringer and crucial to its conclusion. I'm still choosing Kaladin. -
Coming back, glad to be on the Shard again.

Hello, fellow Cosmere fan! Ah, so have you read all of the Cosmere books?

Heyo, welcome aboard

I think Brandon chose the name "El" because it could just mean "him". So that the character would seem nameless, unknown, mysterious, y'know?

Stormlight is gaseous Investiture but it also emits Investiture in the form of radiation that acts like light. I think Taldain's sun might be doing the same or something similar to that: distributing radiation Investiture. This would be a very minute amount of Investiture. The fact that it takes 4 hours of exposure from the sun above Dayside in order for the White Sand microorganisms to be Reinvested and turn white again, while a little Stormlight usage from Lightweaving (which is much less Investiture intensive than other Surges from what we saw in Oathbringer during the events in Kholinar and Shadesmar) recharges it in a few seconds/minutes further supports this hypothesis. As for White Sand affecting other Shardworlds

Endowment’s almighty magic system (Dawnshard spoilers)
Honorless replied to Koloss17's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think Endowment, or Edgli rather, was one of the Vessels who Shattered Adonalsium because they thought it was necessary. The reason why her magic is so... primal, might be because, like Frost, she believes in a plan of Adonalsium. That might also explain why she's so hostile towards Shards who broke the compact, as it's a view shared by Frost as well that Shards should not settle on the same planet together. So the magic took form from essential elements of Command, based on the patterns of life, drawn by her Shard's Intent.- 52 replies

Yeah, they don't fully understand what being a Drab entails as the Returned themselves can suppress their Divine Breath, they think they know but they're mistaken (Cosmere spoilers)
-
Hmm... Don't jump straight to Rhythm of War, imo. You should probably read Mistborn era 1 and Secret History before that, oh and Warbreaker too!

Ah, no, polls are complicated. When you select "create new topic", the first thing you see is a drop box to choose either content or poll, right? Apparently you can't just select poll, fill up the page and hit submit. You'll have to fill up both the poll page and the content page and only then can you publish the topic.

While they did probably get a lot of it from their cult of the Returned within Hallandren, which is a densely populated tropical country, they must've purchased a lot of it from elsewhere, Hallandren is a filthy rich country with tons of resources: one of the reasons for the Manywar. (perhaps I should say Hanald instead of Hallandren as that was what the land's was called at the time). The Five Scholars also probably had a long, long time to collect that many Breaths, they were popular so wouldn't have had too much problems with supplicants getting tired of them. (Was the Iridescent Tones even the organized national religion it is now back then? Wasn't it established by them/after them?). While the Five Scholars were Worldhoppers, Vasher does not know how to convert other Investiture into Breaths, so they probably didn't collect the Investiture off-world. Of course it's entirely possible that they got the Breaths via some kind of magical hacking (getting it from other Returned, getting it from Endowment's Perpendicularity, etc) or maybe they even got it directly from Endowment but we don't know so we can only speculate.

Bismuth crystals have to be the most beautiful minerals in existence: And it's radioactive too, no stable isotopes! Except that some of those isotopes' half lives are longer than the current age of the universe so, no problemo!

Seons probably don't naturally fully inhabit the Cognitive Realm of Sel, given it's home to the Dor. (Many spren prefer to be in the Physical Realm over on Roshar as well, so a Cognitive Being doing that isn't too unusual). Maybe the Seon was Physically in Shadesmar? Maybe Seons manifest in the Cognitive differently when they're submerged in the Physical?

Welcome to the Shard, @James Brafin! Non-Cosmere works, huh? Have you read Perfect State or Dreamer? Please do read them if you haven't yet, my recommendation goes to them as pretty darn good!
