A Case For / A Case Against v2
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Knight of Iron's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh no, I wasn't saying he was, just that that reminded me of something he said. That did strike me, honestly. Which was why I was rather disappointed that he seemed to have backtracked, lol. But I do hope it turns out you're correct here. Oh you meant King Arthur more specifically than I thought you meant, I thought you just were saying "he's not quite God to them". That very well could be. I remember getting a more religious vibe, but I'll need to reread to be sure, and that could very well just be me reading it differently rather than the text intending that.- 17 replies

This is a common theory, but one I would disagree with. Willshapers (Kalak's order) sound much less Honor-y than Dustbringers (Chana's order) to me, for example. At least, based on the order mottos we have for them. And unless there's some reveals coming about Kalak and Chana's genders, this would seem to break the pattern. Also, it would be weird for Bondsmiths to lean Honor, when the Nightwatcher is a Bondsmith spren.

A Case For / A Case Against v2
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Knight of Iron's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's a good point, I forgot about that scene. I would probably agree with that, but "made himself a religious figure" is still pretty close lol. I hope that's the case, and I could see it being so, though neither scenario would super surprise me. Him working on it is admirable, but "I like hurting people" doesn't exactly give someone a pass on following through with it, in my mind. You're right he could be worse, but "doesn't kill on a whim" is a pretty low bar. Ngl, I totally misread this as "Brandon", and was very very confused. I don't know a lot about Batman (though I did know the first part about "doesn''t kill because then he couldn't stop"), so that's not super hard for me to believe lol. Hmm, that sort of makes me think of Dalinar now, with his "if I start to push the boundaries I set on myself, I will tear them down completely" thing (too lazy to look up the actual quote).- 17 replies

A Case For / A Case Against v2
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Knight of Iron's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Granted, a large portion of that was probably that he had a plan to become worshipped as a god if he died lol. (I do see your point, however, and I do give him credit for at least trying; however, he's also extremely murder-happy, and apparently keeps setting up cults worshipping himself, including one where it appears all the builders of a temple dedicated to him then killed themselves in order to protect the location of a decoy.)- 17 replies

I unironically agree with this one, honestly. He did some good, and that's great, but also is... not a great person.- 17 replies

Novellas We'll Never See
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Use the Falchion's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Honestly, I personally feel like those are somewhat likely, as he'll probably want his shorter break books, and Cyberpunk Mistborn would be a good way to do shorter and very different books during the back half, while still adding to the Cosmere. (But then, he may want some of those "break" books to be non-Cosmere, to stretch outside that zone for a while.) -
He said he hopes to have them all canonized by then, and said it after the final version was already done. So I think it's more that he wants to set them in stone internally, rather than he plans to reveal them to us in RoW.

Shallan's Childhood Secret (Theory Time!)
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Harfyn's topic in Stormlight Archive
Nope, Shallan's mother is still unnamed. I agree with your post, and greatly hope that it's something like that instead of just "yet another family member Shallan killed as a kid". The latter would be more "dramatic", but imo also much more of a letdown with her arc (to me, anyway). The Heralds are Cognitive Shadows. But yeah, some of them at least being people pre-Unmaking feels pretty likely to me, after the Re-Shephir thing in OB. -

Non-Published Canon Magics
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Criggleworth's topic in Sanderson Curiosities & Unpublished Works
The big question there is whether he means "something still in Dragonsteel in canon is related", or just means "there was something similar in Dragonsteel that evolved into them in my thought process". He did confirm he was talking about Tamu Keks there, though: -
The Power of Living Plate
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Master Silver's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Thanks! I'd seen the first WoB, but somehow I never actually processed it lol. (I knew the Heralds had access to the direct conduit thing, just didn't realize it was confirmed it was through the Honorblades, though I was on that side still.) How do we know that that has changed since Honor's Splintering? I feel like it's possible that the people using them now just don't know about it and so can't use it, similar to metalminds. (I mean, Szeth thinks they need 10 heartbeats still!) -
The Power of Living Plate
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Master Silver's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Do we have a WoB saying this? I haven't seen it. (I also didn't realize that the Honorblades granting the conduit was confirmed from a WoB, I thought it was just vague and said the Heralds had access?) -
Non-Published Canon Magics
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Criggleworth's topic in Sanderson Curiosities & Unpublished Works
My gut says no, personally. I feel like Yolish Lightweaving is probably more directly affecting light and stuff (similar to Rosharan Lightweaving, though there's probably some differences), while Sho Del Lightweaving, from the explanation we get, is more a hallucinogen magic power, pretty much. Yeah, that's the vibe I get too. I'm curious whether that's still canon (assuming that our guesses are correct, lol) or whether Brandon's gonna change it to be a bit more limited in accessibility. I wonder: are Cognitive Ripples perhaps the Sho Del illusions? You send a sort of "ripple" through the Cognitive, and each mind picks that up and interprets it? Could just be me stretching when in fact we just haven't seen Cognitive Ripples at all, though. Lol. Someone at some point tagged all the WoBs on it with "microkinesis", which is I think where I learned the word and name. Not sure if the person who added the tags has read Dragonsteel, or just spoke to people who have or what. But I'm assuming the tags are correct. -
Non-Published Canon Magics
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Criggleworth's topic in Sanderson Curiosities & Unpublished Works
Wait, you can heal with microkinesis? Wow Reminds me of cytonics, with how there's a bunch of different powers, and it's theoretically possible to master them all, but Brandon has said he's going to shift to having people specialize in one only. Or perhaps it's that they all function off the same mechanics, and it's possible to learn how to use the others, if you get a deep enough understanding of the one you have. After all, Hoid was probably just a Lightweaver in Liar. Interesting. Tamu Keks were mentioned briefly in one of the sample chapters, and they gave off a feeling of power, but I don't believe what they did was touched on. -
spoilers thoughts on Aether of Night
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Honorless's topic in Aether of Night
Very pedantic correction, but it was actually written in-between the Primes. According to the essay, the chronology of his Dark Ages was: Books kept getting rejected, so he tried to write shorter with Mythwalker, which we know how that went. Mistborn Prime came next, trying to go basically the opposite of his normal style. Then he let himself write a bit more epic in scope and wrote Aether. Then he got his books rejected again and responded by writing the most clichéd fantasy he could with Final Empire Prime. (But Brandon himself has misremembered that order after the fact in most of his lists.) So perhaps this explains the lack of Sha and Lum in Mistborn Prime: he just didn't think of it yet. Hmm, yeah, that's even weirder. Man, the Aether universe has so many recognizable modern Cosmere elements, but so much that is different. I'm very curious how the Cosmere worked at that time in its development.- 136 replies

Non-Published Canon Magics
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Criggleworth's topic in Sanderson Curiosities & Unpublished Works
This old TWG post by Peter mentions "Topaz's mass effect blast", though obviously it doesn't elaborate. So that might be something. Another post in that thread mentions Jerick becoming a Tzai but not developing his microkinetic abilities very far, which, combined with the explanation of Tzai Blows in the released sample chapters, makes me wonder if perhaps anyone can learn Tzai Blows, or at least anyone with access to a Cognitive Realm-based usage of Investiture. (Note: the thread does have some plot and character discussion of Dragonsteel Prime, although the mods on TWG appear to have nuked any large spoilers.) Sho Del appear to have an illusion magic in the sample chapters, which functions very differently from any form of Lightweaving we've seen before now: -
spoilers thoughts on Aether of Night
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Honorless's topic in Aether of Night
It makes me think of the alternate Well of Ascension ending, with the 4 mist spirits. We know one was Endowment, and the Sha/Lum/Nan trio makes me think Cultivation was one as well. (I'm guessing Autonomy for the final one, because of Trell, and because an Endowment/Autonomy conflict matches with Sazed's "Elendel is too much of a paradise to push progress" issue.) I've thought of Sha, Lum, and Nan as (early versions of) Ruin, Cultivation, and Preservation, personally. The main thing that makes me question it: Sha and Lum in Aether are called However, about Decay, the Former says: So Decay is a separate thing, and Sha and Lum seem to be halves of the Former's power, perhaps? I'm very curious about that.- 136 replies

Chana, Daughter of Ishar?
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
Might also just be the art's inaccurate. The description of Jezrien in the vision says he looks Alethi but darker, and that Jezrien art looks almost lighter than I'd guess most Alethi do (though maybe my image of Alethi is just off). -
I mean, the other three female Heralds we have pictures of all have at least gloves on their safehands. I wonder if perhaps each set of paintings is from a different time period, and Chana's is from before the gender roles were as set? (I mean, the real answer is probably that the IRL artist for whatever reason just didn't include it, but I'm thinking about an in-world explanation.)

(Art is by shuravf, from here, found via the Coppermind) The meme's been in my head since the moment I read the line, but was too lazy to make until now. And I'm too lazy to make the color of the background match up with the background of the art. Oops.
