I personally don't have too many problems with what the shard does, I would like to see more places with absolutely no censorship though, a place online to say whatever you want.

Not really, you have to remember that time seems less on hindsight, and while never perfect we don't see mass conflict until the first crusade, or was the plauge first? Whichever that still leaves about a thousand years(to my knowledge) of mostly peaceful interactions. That was followed by a few centuries of intermittent strife, with the Crusades, Reconquista (did I spell that right?) and such. -

I read Lord of the Rings first and couldn't ignore the parallels. Paolini just made a watered down version of Tolkiens legendarium, added a few things and called it good. -

Not all conquerors are the awful people you portray them as wanting food or safety for their people, and being very friendly to those conquered all they wanted was a transfer of power. Individuals like Cyrus or Alexander the Great.

I think that investitures immune to your own magic rule would counter that I don't think that the relative speed changes, i.e. an object moving 1 mph inside would leave the bubble and move at 1 mph outside
