  1. Probably. Though I would note, just to play devil's advocate as I don't actually believe this, that we don't know that they aren't immortal, at least immortal in the same way fifth heightening awakeners are. Edit: Yoki-Hijo aren't immortal either, and neither was TLR.
  2. I don't believe it ever said that it was made on Roshar, especially considering any form of Investiture device will be called a fabrial in the future. Just like how the Father Machine was awakened but they didn't use breaths for it. 1. Ryan is multiple times more invested than Returned are, heck multiple times more than Elantrians are but she doesn't show any visible effects. 2. Eshoni despite having said only one oath was able to persist for the same amount of time as Kelsier. What happens at oath 5? 3. The only people we see stick around as CS so far have either ascended, been touched by direct Shardaic intervention. The exceptions being shades of Threnody which is noted as being unusual even to Khriss, as well as having a 'wounded' spiritual realm. Whatever that means. Or the shroud, which was artificially sustained. 4. We have no evidence that Elantrians can simply decide to stay as CS. Considering how it's described the exact same way as those seeing Cusichesh the Protector, we have a pretty good idea. Technically he didn't say that, he said that having a lot of Investiture was one way to become a CS, not the only way. I agree, but where they are right now, without their honorblades and with the exception of Taln actively rejecting their Oaths... I think they are probably below the higher oath Radiants.
  3. Everything is investiture, but not only that the investiture in shardmetals is inactive, not to mention how powerful such a device would have to be. But if one house wanted to sell to another, or even to the skaa if they were so inclined he would have no way of knowing, or any ability to control it. Sure it does, gasoline is explosive, flammable, and dangerous in all the same ways as Harmonium on its own, and just like Harmonium it powers the world. They might be able to tax the sale, but once I buy it: how I use it, when I use it, and if I decide to sell it again are all outside of their control. That wasn't the question, if you had a government monopolization of all aircraft, and required the level of control that you are suggesting. How on earth are crop dusters supposed to operate? Is some Harmonium Control Unit™ supposed to come by every day and sell them the requisite amount of Harmonium and then collect anything that wasn't used? No it doesn't, there is a huge difference between international trade and intranational trade. Not to mention most Malwish hate the basin to start with, seeing them as barbarians. Considering that Alak can just give Marasi primer cubes despite him having an only ceremonial position, they must be pretty common. Considering they can waste huge amounts of it just to build bombs they have a lot of it. Considering that the Admiral in TLM thought that they had enough Ettmetal that they could destroy Elendel in one bombing run, and didn't seem at all worried about the cost, they have a lot. So with that much Harmonium, with how undeniably useful it is how could you possibly justify restricting it for yourself? I guarantee you that the governor's bodyguards would have leecher primer cubes, do you think other people, particularly whoever ends up in control of Wayne's fortune at that time wouldn't want that for themselves? Do you think Kelsier would let the Elendel government monopolize that power, when he wants some for himself and hates the Elendel government? Harmony said that she directly invested the system. When she comes back do you think she's going to stay at the same level of involvement, especially considering that it is Trellium focused? Autonomy has already claimed that world as her own, she's not afraid of Investing there. 1. Kel hates the Elendel government, he would never share anything with them. 2. He thought he had a lot more time to deal with the Set, so he had no reason to rush. 3. What says Kelsier doesn't want everyone to have nukes? The man is one step away from an anarchist. If that's how it works in your country remind me to never go there. They can resist, they can claim national security all they want, but if the elected officials want any piece of information they so desire, they can get it. Considering how many people there are represented, especially considering how curious the outer cities would be about such a weapon they will demand to know how it works, and where it's so simple they would all be able to understand it. So if he got access to Lerasium tomorrow he wouldn't share it, despite that being the direct achievement of his stated goal? Yes he would, he is more than comfortable sharing something if it gets him what he wants. I don't know about that Discord doesn't sound very stable. Though I guess Harmony does, so that shows how far that gets us.
  4. It clearly could it just stretched it's limits. And why would it be made to handle Radiants? It's a one way bond versus the ability to temporarily bond multiple. No more different than the various forms of lightweaving. Yes, but not that much more.
  5. How on earth do you detect metals like that? He had no way to control where the Atium went after he sold it. And neither will the government. Not to mention the huge black market that would create. Ignoring the fact that that would kill hundreds, how do you replace the Harmonium? That would be like trying to register and control the sale and distribution of Gasoline. It won't work. Again you are asking for a black market, or for people to simply take their stuff to the Malwish for faster and easier service. Not to mention the massive effort that would be made to overturn that. So how do crop dusters run? The private aircraft that will feed the population? That might not be a huge issue in the basin, but what about the roughs? Not to mention that the Malwish clearly don't have this level of control, and they aren't likely to change that. She doesn't really have a choice on that matter. Anytime a Shard exerts their influence in an area they become invested, if Autonomy takes the kind of action she wants there, especially making an Avatar, Trellium WILL form as a result. The Set members were confiscated, and all of their hideouts scoured, not to mention Elendel found enough to form a stockpile, and are actively testing it, people know. And even if they didn't Kelsier, who wants to democratize the powers will make sure they do. How well did that work for the Manhattan project? You want the bureaucracy to keep things secret from the elected representatives? Kelsier will make sure they know.
  6. Did it say that it couldn't? They do? Nothing seemed that different from Radiants.
  7. Brandon specifically wanted to avoid using platforms he couldn't control after the Reddit drama.
  8. It serves as an investiture detector, and means of making hemalugic spikes that don't make you open to control. Not to mention that Autonomy wouldn't want it controlled. The US government tried to keep the methods to make nuclear weapons a secret. Look how that worked out, and that's with something far more complex. That is a possibility. But the Malwish will lose control of Harmonium, or at least give it up. We already know that, Harmonium is necessary for Scadrian FTL drives. Whether it happens in era 3 or after is immaterial, at some point it will happen. Considering it can't be melted, we have a good idea. But even if it did, the form it needs to be in for the bomb is the same form as it's technological applications. You don't need a several MT weapon, a few KT serves the purpose of my initial post just as well. Speaking of which, remind me to calculate how powerful the Set's bomb would have been, I've been meaning to do that again. How do you restrict Harmonium when everyone needs it? How do you deny hospitals that want gold primer cubes? Are you going to handicap yourself by monopolizing the airline industry? What about space travel? Manufacturing? Everyone will want Harmonium tech. And as stated above Autonomy will not allow Trellium to be controlled. They very much know Trellium exists, or do you expect every single person who was involved in the raid on Set bases to collect it for the basin to stay quiet. What about all the government officials, most of whom are inherited positions? At no point will one of them spill?
  9. My favorite hymns have got to be:

    Praise to the Man

A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief

If You Could Hie to Kolob

  10. Here's a list of everything stoping a average person from making a nuclear weapon. 1. Refining uranium, this is not required for Harmonium/Trellium bombs 2. The specific intricacies of making the bomb go off, which requires specific amounts of force at specific times. This also is not required for Harmonium/Trellium bombs. With that I ask you: Why will Harmonium/Trellium bombs not be more widespread? Especially when considering how easy other WMD's are to make in the Cosmere?
  11. But there will be some, and you don't need a lot to make a bomb. And how can it be a Mistborn book about Trell and not feature Trellium? Harmonium is needed for every aspect of future Scadrian living: airships, primer cubes, mechanical investiture, etc. It all needs Harmonium, that would be like trying to track where every piece of aluminum was.
  12. The knowledge isn't a problem, we know how to make nukes, and Wax figured his out within 24 hours.
  13. So in Yumi we learned that Returned are less invested than Elantrians who are in turn about the same as Yoki-hijo. Later Brandon said that Heralds were less than Elantrians, though they varied due to how well they kept their promises and such. So I thought I'd try and rank other invested individuals on this scale. Awakeners already pair nicely with Returned so we don't need to consider them. Radiants are in many ways similar to Yoki-hijo so I feel relatively confident placing oath 5 Radiants near them, if not equal to, though the Heralds being lower than them does make me hesitant to do so. Mistborn and Feruchemists I would probably place in the same spot, and well below Returned. Sandmasters I would place just below them. I'm still not sure where to place Aetherbound. What are your thoughts on this?
  14. It might not, but I would doubt it, especially with how much emphasis was placed on it. They don't want to give it to the basin, but they have tons of it. Trell is coming back for era 3. You can, my chemistry teacher had some, you can just buy it online actually. It's done through electricity, and is actually really easy to do, standard incandescent lightbulbs get their filaments that hot. Buying the materials needed wouldn't even raise eyebrows. Not really, considering how little you need tracking amounts that small would be almost impossible. Look to the drug trade for example, some of the heaviest surveillance and search measures are used to try and contain it, but it still penetrates every country.
  15. Most early calendars were based around when a monarch took the throne, and when more accurate calendars were introduced they often stayed on the same year system, but just kept counting, so year 0 was probably the year some monarch took the throne in the nation that developed the modern Vorin Calendar.
  16. In The Lost Metal we are introduced to Harmonium/Trellium bombs, obviously intended to be nuclear stand ins. However there is one main thing separating the two, Trellium bombs are much easier to make. Indeed as Harmonium becomes more common, and as Trellium returns in era three it wouldn't be inconceivable for the ordinary person to make such a weapon. So the question becomes: What happens when the doctrine of MAD applies to every possible interaction? Do you have police forces trained to sneak in and kill targets before they can detonate their weapons, is that even possible? Do countless people die everyday because two people got in a fight and it just kept escalating? Do governments engage in mass surveillance in order to assure that they control who has these weapons and who doesn't? Or perhaps do people end up more reasonable? WW2 is still the deadliest war in history, despite multiple wars occuring afterwards, largely due to the threat nuclear weapons presented. Do people risk killing others knowing that their victim could easily kill them before dying? Do police favor diplomacy rather than force as it is the only option they have? Is government overreach kept in check by the people having equal standing? Ultimately we can't say as nothing like this has ever occurred on earth, but it is something to think about.
  17. Well, I might go with something Celtic just based on what you want. How about Culait to be inhabited by the Aros
  18. The answer is pretty simple, the world that has the best score in a particular category sets the standard for all the others. For example when I added Taldain it scored a 7.5 in technology and economics, which beat out Scadrial's 6 and made 7.5 the new total that all the worlds were judged out of. So yes Spirits are pretty good, but when Roshar has lightweavers, Ones of the Masks, the ability to duplicate documents without leaving a trace, multiple ways to speak every language and a lot more it's not that impressive. The ranking system is explained in depth here. https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/114434-frustrations-firepower-index-homepage-updates-and-ranking-system-explained/
  19. I added the world from Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
  20. Welcome to Frustration's Firepower Index, a collection of threads ranking the military power of various Cosmere worlds. This thread will be focusing on Komashi as it appears at the end of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. Fun fact the preview to this book that Brandon read was actually what inspired the FFI. Shards: Virtuosity is splintered, rendering it unable to take an active role 0/3 Dawnshards: Komashi has no known Dawnshards 0/0 Defenses: Komashi has no known perpendicularity, meaning any aggressor would have to come from space, and as Komashi has relatively advanced astronomy as seen by how they could tell that Utol was inhabited via visual observations. 1/5.5 Offenses: Lacking a stable perpendicularity the only way to attack another world is through space travel. Komashi has build successful interplanetary spacecraft and they have access to the UTol space station, giving them access to the wider Cosmere, though at the moment they lack any FTL capacity I do not expect that to hold for long. .5/1 Natural advantages: Komashites have no known natural advantages. I'd place a small population here, but the only evidence to support that is the small size of the countries, but the shroud encouraged high population densities, so that isn't hard proof. 0/2.5 Armed Forces: Komashi has a few small nations, but no indication is given that any military presence exist. 0/12.5 Economics and Technology: Komashi has developed trade routes, busses, industrial power, interplanetary travel, high speed communication, unmanned drones, levitation devices as well as the ability to create all sorts of invested devices from the Spirits. 7/7.5 Logistics: On world: Komashi has the ability to move large numbers of people and materials to any population centers at high speeds via busses and trains, as well as established transportation routes. 3/10 Off World: Komashi has spacecraft capable of carrying supplies as well as access to space stations needed to move them to other worlds. 2/2.5 Intelligence: Komashi has spirits that can form powerful Connections. 1/10 Counterintelligence: Komashi has devices that allow the user to see cognitive entities. 1/9 Allies: Komashi has no known allies as of yet. Notable uses of Investiture: Komashi can build devices to sever Connection, manipulate memories, create people with heavy levels of investiture and if they really needed to: cover the entire world in invested shadow that forms creatures attracted to fear. +5 Overall Score: 20.5/65.5 Recommended Strategies: Komashi needs to learn how to use the Spirits and the Hion to their advantage, as well as build up an actual military presence. Getting a method of FTL should be achieved as quickly as possible. Once that has been achieved they stand quite respectably in the middle shardworlds. So as always what do you think? Did I miss anything? And what should I work on next?
  21. I'd probably grab Subtle Spell personally, just because of how Surgebinding works, and the fact that both hands are goong to be used for the Glaive. but all of those are good picks. Honestly. Though the funny thing is that the real Kaladin was even more powerful.
  22. Actually considering that painting attracts the Nightmares, it's more likely that one of the victims was already painting when it happened.
  23. Well even if they had Silver, why would they decided to try that against nightmares that can move through walls? Especially when painting works. Silver would probably be very effective against them.
  24. In that case I highly recommend taking fighter as the initial class, as you should if you start the character at level 6 and onwards. With plate armor and the defensive fighting style from Paladin that's an AC of 19 before casting Shield(which I also recommend getting, it's part of the Hexblade spell list). I'd also grab the superior technique fighting style from Fighter, and pick the Ambush maneuver, in order to get the jump on the initiative order, as well as grabbing Improved Pact Weapon to use the Glaive as a spellcasting focus, and getting a +1 to hit.
  25. This thread has been dead for two and a half years. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been archived. Now I'm more than willing to continue this conversation, but in the future please be mindful of the date of the last post. I do not believe that the majority of Radiants never reach the fourth ideal. Over three hundred Radiants of 4th oath or higher from just the Stonewards and Windrunners existed at once. Shardplate could survive multiple shots from Wax, even with him going all out, burning steel and tapping iron there is still only the chance he could break it in one go. Coins aren't going to even come close. Wax is the only one who was able to make Lerasium, with even Harmony admitting he doesn't know how that happened, so it is not a reliable method.
