Compounding with AonDor instead of Allomancy
Halyo_Alex replied to Benkinsky's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think the big advantage of having a Compounding Aon setup is that you can engrave it on any metalmind you want and any Elantrian can activate it to... fill the metalmind? or would it start expelling the attribute out into the vicinity? I guess that's a part you could modify with Aons... -
Wait... Ok I just got MASSIVE deja vu reading this. I swear to everything you've put these words somewhere I've read them before, maybe a Reddit post?

I feel like Cultivation would be a good shard for Sazed.

"I'm the Juggernaut!"
-
Alright, will do.

Also worth noting is that the Investiture inside a Metalmind would technically be "of the Feruchemist" instead of strictly Preservation/Ruin (but the origin of Scadrian Humans makes this more complicated) Breath and Stormlight are very different manifestations of Investiture. Stormlight wants to move, to be used. It "wants" to be a part of the ecology of Roshar. Breath will sit still until you Command it to do something, and it sticks with you on a Physical level (to the point where Hemalurgic spikes can't steal Breath by force). They're Connected not just to a physical body, but their original physical body. And again a Divine Breath may be designed to let them be free by Endowment (because I think she meant for Nightblood to come into existence and so had to make it possible for the 5 Scholars to leave Nalthis and find Shardblades on Roshar).

Uhhh... Wasn't it confirmed that The Girl who Looked Up is the story of the Ashynite refugees (or their descendants) deciding to leave Shinovar and conquer the rest of Roshar? If not, that's what it really feels like to me at face value...

I feel like there might be something here. I don't know what, but I have a gut feeling it could tie in to my theory that the 5th oath Connects the radiant and spren so deeply that they become Spiritually indistinguishable, becoming a single entity with total mastery of their surges and full sapience/sentience in all 3 realms. Maybe that's not what happens naturally at the 5th ideal (which is why Nale doesn't look like some sort of person-shaped hole into space), but a Bondsmith (post-Honor's death) could deepen the bond of a 5th ideal radiant to the degree I'm thinking of with the fusion...

Returned can change their appearances, and that extends to their descendants to some degree (the royal locks), maybe Shallan is a closer relative of a Returned than Siri and Vivenna? Dunno.

Or maybe clone armies... Lifeless are already kind of like that, just not clones... As in they have the sort of mass-produced nature and the obedience of a clone army.

You mean Shardforks, yeah? -
Sounds useful on Scadrial when you put it like that. hm... as for other duralumin boosted surges... Well I'll just run through all 10 and give my thoughts on em. Adhesion: "You will STAY THERE and you will LIKE IT!" possibly would allow you to (assuming "pressure and vacuum" means what I think it means) create blasts of air with hurricane (read: highstorm) levels of force, like a particularly angry Airbender. Gravitation: "We are GOING and we are going NOW" If you absolutely have to Lash something in a single direction as hard as your Stormlight reserves will allow (like launching a spear at someone from a distance at railgun velocities) then yes, probably extremely handy. Division: "I don't like this wall. Wall, go away." Might be able to make a miniature Shattered Plains, if you're into that. Or just turn the rock into sand, I dunno. Abrasion: "Hm, I need fire, but I can't Soulcast." As said before, might be able to set things on fire by making absurd levels of friction. Would probably be safer with Shardplate on to protect your hand and still be capable of transmitting the Abrasion through it (if it's your own Plate). Progression: "Well that's a lot of missing bits. Let me get those for you." Definitely would have the oomph needed to pull someone together in the literal sense, probably would help with reviving people from the recently deceased. Illumination: "FUS RO DAH!" Or "Storm you, I'm the storming SUN!" Depends on if you go with sound or actual light for this. Blast waves and gamma rays, anyone? ...Wait a second that's a nuke oh god oh fu- Transformation: "YOU ARE FIRE AND YOU WILL STAY FIRE." Yeah. Possibly enables just brute-forcing a Soulcast without needing a nearby Perpendicularity. Very nice. Transportation: "There's no place like home." I dunno if it would ACTUALLY let you teleport back to somewhere familiar from afar, but it would probably make leaving Shadesmar less of a pain than it normally is. That's handy. Cohesion: "The floor is lava. Except not hot." Assuming Cohesion is the surge that makes stuff more fluid and malleable, this could probably make a whole cliffside just goop and fall off. Or you could flatten a hill by melting it, pretty much. Tension: "I am bulletproof!" Probably not the literal Surgebinder doing that, but whatever protective measure they want to put between them and something else would probably become rigid enough to defend against a lot more than usual, especially if it's usually quite flimsy. I don't know if Tension can affect the ultimate tensile strength of a substance, but if it can, then yeah. Bulletproof paper.

I wish i could see who the 5 people who voted yes are... "I just wanna talk with em" -
Wait... Suddenly crackpot theory for Era 2 Mistborn: The Hoid on Scadrial is an Awakened copy of Hoid made by the man himself while he sorts out how to detach his Cryptic from Roshar.

So.... Roshar. Hmm.

Can a fabrial fix dead Shardblades?
Halyo_Alex replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is more feasible than it may sound at first glance; it's been confirmed (at least by WoB) that "spiritual corpses" are a thing; the remnants of a dead being's Spiritweb in the spiritual realm. So you could probably try to fish around in there and grab those remnants and... "plug it back in" to the deadeye spren. Now the challenge seems to be finding the right needle in the needlestack for each deadeye spren. -
You rang? Soulcasting may also mesh well with allomantic duralumin; a brute force method as opposed to a proper bargain. Depends on if that's even possible to do; but Jasnah seems capable of it (at least in the presence of the Perpendicularity at the end of OB). Duralumin abrasion could be useful for starting fires if you can super-boost friction up on the surface of something flammable like wood. Friction generates heat after all. Sounds Dustbringer-y.

This is the way I see it; Fortune in the sense of Fortune-Teller (future-seer) rather than "Good fortune" as a synonym for good luck.

...I just can't get this idea out of my head. Something feels off about the dynamic between Shallan, Pattern, and Mraize as of chapter 13... Maybe it's just that Pattern wasn't fully cognizant at the time, but then Shallan had progressed far enough into her bond to summon him as a Blade... Anyway, preliminary self-justifications aside, something is fishy about Pattern and Shallan's past. Obviously Shallan is very much NOT okay with whatever happened back then, and refuses to remember. I don't think Pattern would try to push her like that, perhaps believing that she would break the bond just to get him to stop. But yet Mraize is here, promising to "reveal" her past... to herself. And she seems to want that. She doesn't want to have to be the one to admit what she did, but once someone says it, she'll be okay with it? That's... odd. But I could see her having some logic to it, to justify it. So why doesn't that apply to Pattern? Why wouldn't she be okay with him spilling the beans about it? Or... does she not think he can? Did her regressions weaken the bond enough that Pattern also forgot? Or does she believe that because he hasn't told her yet, so she's not going to ask? I don't know anymore, I just talked myself in circles for like 5 minutes. Something just doesn't add up about all this to me.

Well the Skybreakers do uphold laws... That would be an amazing character; female Skybreaker who upholds the laws of grammar and spelling...

Okay, so hear me out. Would fuelling Allomancy with Stormlight unveil new powers we've never seen before? Here's my logic. A fabrial uses a Spren (a fragment of Honor/Cultivation) as a key to determine what the Fabrial will do. That key is then refined by the metal used to make the cage of the fabrial. Then you power it with Stormlight to give the Spren fuel to power the Fabrial's effect. So with that in mind, let's compare that to Allomancy. The metals are keys that refine what the "preservationspren" (big airquotes there) produces as an effect. Due to the Connection to the Allomancer, the effect is emitted from their location in the realms. Obviously the big difference here is scale. One spren is infinitely less powerful than the entire Shard of Preservation. But the general analogy holds, right? A piece of Investiture filtered by metal that consumes a fuel source to produce an effect. So, then. If there was a Radiant who was also a Mistborn, and they sucked in Stormlight, could they then "burn" the Stormlight like how Vin consumes the Mists? Assuming that this is possible, what would the effect(s) be? Personally I think the Radiant Spren would be the determining factor here; Each one would act like a different "alloy" like the various Atium alloys, filtering the output. It might also be possible to still burn a metal while forcing Stormlight to come through, but that probably requires a LOT more hacking than just consuming Stormlight as a fuel like burning the mists. Now back to Fabrials, speaking of the mists. If it were possible to contain the mists inside a gemstone, could you use that to power "allomantic fabrials" kind of like Ettmetal? Using different spren powered by the mists to create allomantic effects? Hmm... Well I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this...
