Bondsmith Personalities and Potential Candidates
Karger replied to Karger's topic in Stormlight Archive
That was actually a fairly common attitude among a large number of world leaders. Gandhi did not want India to participate in the war. Also he was a pacifist so he would have no input on military affairs beyond them not happening. He managed to organize and maintain the entire Indian nation to force the expulsion of England. He certainly delegated. All leaders do. I actually don't understand how that is different from Dalinar. Dalinar's big idea is the radiant coalition. He expects to be listened to especially on military matters but the actual codification of laws for the tower are being done by the Azish at the moment. Dalinar's ideas only mattered when he became capable of explaining them to other people and they became willing to listen. It is possible that the spren might experiment a bit or that you occasionally get unconventional candidates for one reason or another but the vast majority of leaders of the bondsmith type will, in my view, be older experienced and concerned with ethics of a specific type in some capasity. I don't think we have enough background on her. Also what makes her safe? -
It really depends on the person. Someone who is independently wealthy and interested in philosophy or mathematics can probably will have a similar life with or without the ability to see. Someone like Kaladin on the other hand would have a very different life because both of his professions depend on seeing and both informed his personal experience very deaply.

I was going to be mad at you because of Sigzil's placement but some of your other rankings were fantastic.

That is not the Gavilar I know. His widow claims that he gave her ample reason to cheat on him, his brother expresses anger for never being considered, his son has a conscious unfulfilled need for his approval and even his daughter claims she had a hard time connecting with him. Also he literally locked her in the dark during a childhood episode traumatizing her. I never saw Jasnah being insecure. She knows that relying on others for tasks you can't do yourself is a necessary part of life. She may have hatted being wrong but she new better then to avoid admitting it. When she needs something drawn she directs Shallan to do it because Shallan is better at it. When she needs a ship she hires a crew of experienced sailors. None of this altered her confidence. Jasnah is also the world's preeminent feminist. She studied tactics and warfare and can use a shardblade with a reasonable level of proficiency. I think, supported by her writings, that she was confident enough in herself and her femininity not to care that her scholarly nature would be considered masculine by some bigots. You are of course entitled to your own opinion. However even though I lack personal experience but I think I can say with a great deal of confidence that being blind does not fundamentally change who you are as a person. An individual as strong confident and mature as Jasnah letting blindness get in the way of her life sounds, respectfully, almost laughable to me given how she is regarded by people the people who know her. I can just imagine a scene were Jasnah is being talked down to by one of the Alethi mean girls and just smashes her.

I have an extremely hard time believing that Jasnah would be anyone but Jasnah under almost any circumstances. If she grew up blind I am sure Navani would still have loved and supported her and that Gavilar would still have ignored her. Also considering Vorin rules about literacy I am sure that Jasnah could easily get one or two dozen woman to read things to her or take dictation. I see no reason why she could not become a scholar or that her personality would not have emerged the same way.

Welcome!

Welcome to the shard. The Shin may have some cultural lore that explains the unmade better so he understands what is going on. To the best of our knowledge none of the honorblades grant future sight.

This character is from Roshar (and just joined the forums)

Not to mention an assassination network. He was not. The treaty signing was at the palace in Kholinar.

My history of that region is spotty at best(it is not really covered in US world history courses and I have yet to cover that region extensively in my own reading) however I personally was hopping for some kind of large mercantile society featuring lots of overlapping political boundaries governed by well understood weather patterns(like the Monsoons) that allowed safe travel between several different larger empires like Indonesia had during the hellenistic period.

You really should stop using her as an example. I don't think she implies what you think she does. Gandhi is much better and he did actually have several policies. Except Ishar founded the orders and according to the prelude was largely responsible for establishing Heraldic policy. Who would you consider a safer choice? -
I think am the confused one now.

Please add your theory here.

We do not know that is illumination it progression makes more sense in both cases. You are purging unwanted investiture from stone and using it to not die when an insane Herald stabs you.

We might actually have seen Renarin do this. He shows Adolin a version of himself perfected.

You could be in luck but I am not sure it works that way.

If you have a coppermind account you can press the edit button(top right). What I often do if I don't know how to format something correctly is go to another page with a similar source press that edit to view the format and reveres engineer the process.

It also gives some interesting options if you want to do a fosbury flop and take a position where your center of mass is outside your body. You could pull metal past you for example.

I am going to embrace my inner grandparent and ask if "sharkbut" is some kind of young people slang. Also apparently (because I could not resist a google) -

Then why reference the thrones at all? Just say in continual accompaniment of Urithiru and you get the same result. Neither of which were the fault of the radiants(as far as we know anyway). That is my point. They have to have the experience before they can be ready for the bond. Kaladin could not really bond Syl until he went to war and decided to help the people there. Until a Bondsmith has the qualities that make them a good choice you are not going to bond them. The very real danger both to the prestige of the bondsmith as well as the actual life of the NW are considerable. Assuming a literal truth. You are still theorizing to add impact to another theory. Having read her biography I agree that she was pious but she had a lot more courage, loyalty and stubbornness making her more of a Dustbringer or Stoneward. Also divine attributes again(growls)! -
Navani flatly states that she was never unfaithful to Gavilar in WoKs despite having "ample reason." She could have been lying but at that point why bother? Gavilar was dead, she had no political power or influence, and she was in the same breath admitting that she did not like him so much. The conversation was private and with someone she trusted and loved and it is not like she was coy about this kind of thing. She suggested to Dalinar that they start and affair and she was not embarrassed about it. Also in Sadeas's PoV he states that he loves his wife. Also also

This is kind of a cop out but I think prudence might avoid making a magic system at all. Perhaps it some kind of enhanced ability about banking or insurance? Perhaps by good diet exercise and wise financial dissensions the investiture or prudence flows into various bloodlines? In all seriousness I think a magic system of prudence would primarily be about avoiding danger. You would probably get some version of allomantic bronze and copper. Lengthy and difficult procedures might give you some kind of feruchemical gold(making it too easy would encourage reckless behavior). I think their might also be a probabilistic element so no power works 100% of the time but smart people can maximize odds. I also think this will be an "end negative" system where you steadily loose power over time and can't get it back easily(a little like breath).

Bondsmith Personalities and Potential Candidates

Who no one really listened to. She made a strong impression on King Charles but his mother in law had already planed and financed the relief expedition to Orléans prior to her arrival at court . The king's advisors noted she had propaganda value which they exploited. After she made a mistake, urging an early assault on Paris which failed, basically everyone ignored her. Her actions during the war and in general were more of the Dustbringer type. She was a source of courage and inspiration not of actual policy. I personally would not call several millennia of success failure. It is not In all seriousness I think that Cultivation has better methods of helping people grow up that pushing them into a relationship that they are not ready for and could be kind of dangerous for the NW if it does not work out. It is not just Navani it is all of humanity. Jasnah does not seem to mind either and considering her expertise I think she would be aware of a moral crime being committed.
