I do not think that Hearthstone is going to be liberated any time soon. It is currently in the middle of Odium's territory. How can Kaladin do anything to protect it?
From that excerpt I got that Laral is all business now. I don't think she is going to take the time to have a fling now that she has been recently widowed(a fact I am not convinced of).
I am guessing that it shields his mind like many Aviar do. I also think that it allows him to detect investiture similar to bronze(he would have wanted it so he could seek out any usable or potentially dangerous magics in Urithiru).

I find it odd to enjoy a graphic novel more then someone else but I suppose that it is because my visual possesses are so poor that I basically just ignore the artwork and read White Sand more like a novel.
They had quite a few more then a few hundred people but I think that Yoman's organizational skills and the respect that he held over such a large segment of the population would make him to important to alienate on purpose.
