That is what most of us seem to think. It also implies that the four shard groupings theory is correct.

OK so tidbits I picked up so far. Sleepless The Sleepless are few in number and seem to age and reproduce slowly. Their reproduction method apparently happens when one swarm splits off another grouping. This particular group of sleepless numbers only 24. It is unclear how many more there are on Roshar but no more are known. They have spied on and are worried about our radiants. Also apparenty the one Lift met is something of a maverick. We don't really know why but apparently they think Dalinar making the right choices is more dangerous then playing into the enemy's plans(I no idea why). Hoid warned the horneaters two generations ago that they could not fight the sleepless. Fabrails Huio is a genius and he invented the aluminum method that the Azish take credit for. It seems that it works by making it so that only some motions matter circular motion = back and forth as only lateral movement matters. I am really interested for Rysn to star Prof Xing around on a floating chair. Dawnshard Aimia's undersea caverns contain a DAWNSHARD that the sleepless are guarding. There are apparently four and they were used to shatter adonalsium. Sharders speculate that each made four of the four shads. Rysn has the one that makes things improve, change, grow and possibly learn(Endowment, Ruin, Cultivation, Wisdom?). According to Cord it came through Cultivation's perpendicularity. Hoid was effected by (another?) Dawnshard that turned him vegan under principles similar to savantism. Horneaters The Horneaters are awesome. More importantly the Horneaters have a sacred duty to control access to the perpendicularity which explains a little about RoW Perhaps the Horneaters were given sanctuary in exchange for this duty? I also wonder how old they are as a people. Did a group of singers do this ahead of time? Maybe they interbred with the humans specifically so that they could stick around? They apparently have a whole group of people who work in diplomacy/worship of the spren. Rock's enhanced strength comes from Mandras or luckspren. We still don't know what kind of spren they are but they apparently guard wealth so maybe prosperityspren? The Lopen Lopen and Huio leveled up! We got Lopen's third ideal. An interesting twist about self knowledge. Larkin Ancient Guardians, Larkin or Lanceryn as they originally were called were tasked perhaps even created to guard the dawnshard. They bond a particular kind of luckspen only found on Aimia. Eight soulcasters were found on Aimia. They were offerings to the larkin. It is unclear why they would want any. The sleepless managed to interbreed with the Larkin and took over their task of gaurding. Apparently Chiri-Chiri will in fact grow big enough to ride(can't wait). They are also a sapient species. I wonder what other abilities they might have? The Reshi The Reshi King Rysn met seems to have transitioned as of becoming a Dustbringer! The Reshi greatshells can communicate intelligent and important information? They also come to agreements about how to act? They have a "government" and uphold ideologies and causes? What else have we learned?

Just a jubilant post before we all get started!
-
I just saw that they had to shut down the discord until it actually comes out. I honestly cant say I blame them.
-
It is but So it has become kind of a thing. It is still his tradition because its origin is with him but now others have started emulating it and it even seems to have some legal weight. Thanks. Also thank you for taking the time to read and point out a potential problem.
-
Your welcome. It was as much for my reference as other people's. Thank you for contributing. I did not. I listed it under other fused but it took a while to find. Do we have a reference for that?
-
His third? He also has a particular idea of what "saving" someone means. It is not just that he has trouble learning but that he does not seem to see that bridge four were saved a long time before he helped them escape Sadeas.
-
Except he also goes through periods thinking he can't save anyone and anyway coming to terms with failure is not the same accepting loss as inevitable. Many strategies and views on the subject exist and they are not always identical.
-
I personally dislike the I cannot save everyone fourth oath theory. I think evidence points to it being a wrong way of looking at the Windrunner ethos and Kaladin's growth in general. Kaladin is claustrophobic and wants to please and live wiith his parents. A balcony makes sense in this context. Also I don't know if a mass assault is a smart way to take down Urithiru unless you manage to completely compromise the fortifications first. You generally don't want to attack a fortified location directly and when you have to you need some kind of major advantage. As such the fused will require their infiltration plan to work first and the odds of that bringing them into contact with the balcony at Harthstone are slim. Also why assault a 8th floor balcony at all? Nothing of military value is there.

Plausible.

I am not. We have some pretty conclusive WoBs and I am fully up to date. Note the word interferes. Why not say resist? They say it for soulcasting but not for other powers. Perhaps they did something to an existing metal? A treatment process that expanded its identity and innate investiture?
-
I would agree except we really don't know what aluminum does. Sure it it touted by us as investiture kryptonite but that can't be it otherwise you could not use it to store identity. Lets imagine a scenario. You are doing an experiment with chromium where for some reason you have someone push on it and this pulls mists into one end and out the other. Would this be noteworthy to a layperson on scadrial? I am guessing no. I agree to a point but again we don't have any reason to avoid considering them.
-
Yeah well it has been fun everyone. RoW comes out in a couple weeks. Dawnshard will be here before then. Lets hope we have a great time reading both.
-
So now we have two new metals. Keeping score we have. Assuming these are also allomantic metals they could be cadmium, chromium, nicrosil, aluminum, duralumin, bendalloy(they would ID gold, copper or electrum pretty quickly). I kind of want to rule out aluminum and duralumin as well since those are also known on roshar. This leaves four interesting possibilities(unless a godmetal is involved).
-
Shadesmar question/is roshar thought to be flat?
Karger replied to Chasmgoat's topic in Stormlight Archive
Modern scholars believe Roshar to be round. This is important for stormwardens who currently believe that only one highstorm exists and it orbits the globe. Some older rosharan myths however talk about a mostly flat earth. So educated mostly believe the first while some uneducated belive the second(when they think about it). -
The difference between the two is generally a convoluted legal question in feudal societies. If Laural had been male I think Roshone being appointed would at the very minimum raised a few eyebrows. No but Laural would still probably have been compensated. She also may have been made reagent if they had a lighteyed child. I imagine that while not illegal darkeye lighteye marriages are pretty uncommon so some grey area probably exists.

So in some ways that is correct. As Hoid says trying to please everyone is like watering down soup. Eventually you just get water. Plenty of times(the most obvious example being the new star wars) this has been a mistake. However I think if several people see something in a character that you missed and you try it out and find it works that is a good thing then the story is improved in my mind at least. Trying at least be encouraged. That is different from forcing through something that is not really working. As to Jasnah being ace, I certainly always thought of her that way. I kind of do like Shallasnah but I see it more as a student's crush rather then anything "real." In any event Jasnah remains a well written character and it looks like Brandon is putting a lot of thought into her. I am exited for the back five.
-
New chapter new info new headaches from me trying to sort fact from fiction. Please help if you can.
-
While I agree with your premise some of Jasnah's moves I think are less controversial then you might think. Yes Alethkar does have incredibly well entrenched gender norms but even in other societies with the same you still had cases of, for example, female rulers. Jasnah saying that competent woman can inherit land would probably be seen less as a progressive move then a concession to the fact that large numbers of landholding men are going to be killed and some already have been. She has not freed slaves yet but given the confusion and the fact that singers will employ humans she can argue freeing slaves is another necessary concession. It is not like she is getting rid of the entire rank system. If someone says aluminum spears then I will of course change my position. However I find it odd that aluminum is being kept as a mystery. What possible reason would Brandon have for not just saying it? Agreed. Lets go over what we know. There are two different metals. If they know that they must have captured and analyzed a spear well enough to ID both if they were familiar. Since Navani does not state "scholars call this metal aluminum" I think it pretty conclusive that neither one is although I of course might have to admit I am wrong. However Rosharans do know about aluminum. Shallan's necklace for example. The Azish could of course ID it as well. Unrelated is a guess that I think probable but we will see. Not really. Vested interests are called that for a reason. You have some cases like the progressive movement in the early 20th but that took decades and was fueled by huge changes in the economic system. Dito for the civil rights movements.
-
I agree that seems obvious but it is not confirmed. Given how many people can recognize aluminum I would not base anything on that as an underlying assumption. How about this(I just noticed). Try reading back to back. Seems pretty conclusive we are dealing with two unrelated metals. If one is an alloy of the second then that should become apparent just by melting it.
-
You are using circular reasoning based on a false premise. It may block shardblades but we have a pretty clear indication that said metal is not aluminum. Given how involved Navani was in building the fourth bridge I think it quite reasonable. Perfectly possible. I personally don't think so. The descriptions don't match although it could be an alloy.
-
Navani works with aluminum on an almost daily basis. She(or at least someone who works for her) can clearly ID it. Duralumin would be easy to ID. Just heat it until copper's melting point and you get aluminum and pure copper.
-
Anyone who owns land even just a little is automatically of the fifth dahn. It would not be unusual for protocol to require any landholder to present themselves at court while in the capital.
-
It is a combination of Chromium and Nickel. Navani should be able to identify that it is an alloy and that it is partly nickel by liquidation if it were Nicrosil. Chromium is a pure metal with a considerably higher melting point and is difficult to produce.
