  1. Hello. I would like to update my character sheet for Alanis Sheneth, if that's okay. It has to do with my Nightwatcher bane. You see, I recently noticed a bit of a plot hole in my character's backstory; Aln's brother was injured in the war on the Shattered Plains, with that being the reason that he didn't accompany her into the Alleyverse. However, that raises the question of why my character didn't simply heal him with her Regrowth. Then I realized that this could tie into my character's Nightwatcher bane. Rather than have her bane be the fact that she can't see the words of those she's close to, it should be that she can't use Investiture on/around those she's close to at all. (In this, I'm counting her Nightwatcher boon as Investiture.) That would also make it more of a bane, rather than a stipulation. The updated character sheet is below: Thank you.
  2. Aln looked toward her. "Oh, Xena. You were the one who hacked my Spanreed, weren't you? You're already a member. I'm glad you made it safely." She paused, then added, "And I still want to know how you did that, if you're willing to explain." Aln pulled a paper out of her satchel and handed it to Kendul. "Of course. Just sign this." The paper read: I, the undersigned, hereby pledge myself to the Guild of Scholars, and promise to strive to gather and spread knowledge throughout the Alleyverse and corresponding worlds. Signed, _______________
  3. Someone needs to write a fanfic where Javert is saved from death (like Szeth was) by Nale, and inducted into the order of Skybreakers.
  4. I would say more of a Windrunner, actually. I mean, he stops a fight, saves a guy from under a carraige, helps Fantine, saves Cosette, joins the revolution to protect Marius, then ultimately drags Marius away through the sewers. But, yeah, I suppose he could also be an Edgedancer.
  5. For all of you musical fans out there, I have to point something out. The song "Do You Hear the People Sing" fits perfectly with the Parshendi. I can just imagine Venli singing this as the Highstorm approaches. The lyrics are below. And Javert could totally be a Skybreaker.
  6. I like the Oaths, myself. However, the back 5 books are about the Heralds, so Oath prgression doesn't make nearly so much sense. I'm sure there'll be plenty to keep us involved, regardless.
  7. I was previously convinced that the original three Shards on Roshar did not include Odium- meaning that there would be a third Shard running around, that we know little about. After all, the phrase "3 of 16 ruled, but now the Broken One reigns" does seem to imply that the Broken One was not one of the original three. That also would mean that the Sibling is not Odium's Spren, but instead a third that would have no relation to Voidbinding, and could therefore be bonded as a Radiant Spren. Unfortunately, I think that Oathbringer and several WoBs have made it pretty clear that Odium is, in fact, the third Shard. It was hard to let go of this one.
  8. Aln raised an eyebrow. "You're speaking to her. Who might you be?"
  9. Aln walked into the room through the far door, and strode toward the entrance. She glanced out the front window, then opened the door. "Welcome to the Scholar's Guild," she said, stepping aside to allow entry. "How may I help you?"
  10. The Knights Radiant in a school cafeteria: Windrunner: They're sitting at a table surrounded by friends (squires). One forgot a lunch, so the Windrunner volunteers their own as a replacement, and won't stop asking until the friend accepts it. Truthwatcher: They're sitting alone in a corner with a book open, alternating between reading, eating, and having engaging mental debates with themselves. They're also the only one that noticed that the wall clock stopped, and that lunch should have been over five minutes ago. Dustbringer: They're searing elaborate graffiti into the table while trying to avoid notice from the teachers. They're also the one that accidentally stopped the clock and didn't tell anyone. Skybreaker: They had volunteered to be a lunch monitor, and were overseeing the proper disposal of recyclables, before they were distracted by the need to discipline the Dustbringer. Elsecaller: They're eating lunch with a teacher upstairs in order to discuss an extra-credit opportunity, and are now wondering why the rest of the class didn't join them 5 minutes ago. Willshaper: They're moving from table to table every few minutes, eating bits of other people's lunches (they forgot their own). This is met with great admiration from the Edgedancers. Edgedancer: They're trying to talk to everyone that's sitting alone, and are currently attempting to convince the Truthwatcher not to tell the Skybreaker about the clock. Lightweaver: They're sitting alone, but was self conscious about it, so they made an illusionary group of friends around them. Unfortunately, this meant that the Edgedancers didn't approach them. Stoneward: They're playing a card game with the same two people they've sat with since elementary school. Bondsmith: They've convinced the teachers to let them push two tables together, and are now trying to get the Lightweaver's "group" to join them.
  11. Aln stared out the window of her small library as the fog blanketed the city. Fear blended with wonder inside of her, and she instinctively reached for the books in her satchel. They're mists, almost like Scadrial, she thought. But, that phenomenon was caused by the Shard of Preservation, and later Harmony, manifesting power into the Physical Realm. A chill ran through her. Not a... No, surely not a Shard. Not here. Aln stepped outside, squinting at the sky. If it was Investiture, it was no kind she had ever read about. This must be something new. Something to do with that strange new building. PlasmaCore. She took a step toward the center of town, itching to know, but stopped herself. No. Stay out of it, Aln. You're a scholar, and this screams of conflict. Still, she gave a last, lingering look at the fog before stepping back into her softly lit study.
  12. Just as you can tell that Alcatraz Smedry is a prison.
  13. Hmm. Isn't changing information to suit your own purposes exactly what the Librarians do? Isn't that why we oppose them?
  14. Well, that does bring up the questoin of what you consider to be a library. If you don't trust this definition, what is a library?
  15. li·brar·y /ˈlīˌbrerē,ˈlīb(ə)rē/ noun a building or room containing collections of books, periodicals, and sometimes films and recorded music for people to read, borrow, or refer to. "a school library" a collection of books and periodicals held in a library. "the Institute houses an outstanding library of 35,000 volumes on the fine arts" a room in a private house where books are kept.
  16. "I can take them," Aln replied. "Currently our library consists of what you see here, as well as a few more shelves in the back. Any books are welcome!"
  17. Aln pinned the slip of paper to the wall above her desk, and wrote his name on the sign in front. Turning around, she said to him, "You're welcome in the back room, now. That's where our Guild discussions take place."
  18. Well, the Scholar's Guild will accept even hemalurgic monsters with poor judgement. So I won't count your character as dead just yet.
  19. Aln frowned at the page, then wrote, Of course. I wish you the best of luck, and look forward to our meeting.
