  1. I wouldn't say that my enjoyment of other books has been ruined by Sanderson, but it's certainly changed. I'm a big fantasy fan, but after reading the Cosmere, I have been disappointed by others in the same genre. Anything that doesn't have the same creative worldbuilding, intricate plot, and superb characterization that I've been accustomed to falls rather flat. I can still enjoy it, but it doesn't hook me like it used to. I've been reading WoT (in my quest to read everything Brandon Sanderson's ever written) and, while it's good, the characters just didn't impress me. (I'm looking at you, Mat and Nynaeve.) However, this has simply motivated me to find books of better quality, rather than the usual cliched fantasy. I've been looking more into classics and mysteries, and look forward to getting further into that once I've finished marathoning through the last 5 WoT books. So, really, I'd just say I've raised my standards.
  2. A large building sits in an out of the way street. Once in disrepair, the interior now shines brightly with stormlight. The walls are lined with bookshelves, and tables and chairs dot the room. A smaller building sits behind the first, also marked with the symbol of the guild. A large desk lurks in the back of the room, behind which the leader, Aln, can often be seen working. On the frotn window hangs the following sign: The Scholar's Guild Welcome to the headquarters of the Scholar's Guild. As an entirely non-combative guild, our mission is to gather knowledge and spread education throughout the Alleyverse and surrounding worlds. We strive to discover the true nature of the universe, through scientific study and research. All are welcome, whether you bring a question or an answer. If you wish to join the Scholar's Guild, and dedicate yourself to the gathering and spreading of truth, please enter and speak to the Head Scholar of the Guild, Alanis Sheneth [Rushu42]. Current Scholars: Deceased/Inactive Members: A neatly handwritten note was affixed to the door. "I can't hear you knock; please just come in."
  3. It is a neutral guild, so I see no problem with dual membership. Thank you! I'm glad to know that there's some interest. Edit: I have now created it as "The Scholar's Guild", if any wish to join.
  4. So, I was hoping to start a guild, but I first wanted to gauge interest in my idea. My character is a scholar and historian, so I figured that I could start a Scholar's Guild. It would be, as a guild, entirely non-combative. Our main mission would be compiling information on the Alleyverse, and attempting to uncover the nature of the universe. We'd focus on creating libraries and providing people with education, as well as asking questions for ourselves. I feel that this would be a good place for people who want to role-play, but don't particularly want to get involved in too many battles. Political conflict and debate, however, is welcome, which should keep things interesting. Does this seem like an interesting idea? Does something like this already exist? As a new member of the Alleyverse, should I join a Guild before trying to make one?
  5. Aln nodded slowly. "Perhaps that is sage advice, although I have little inclination to join any current guild." She flipped to a new page in her notebook and asked, "Where might I rent a small house?" Suddenly she started, and reached into her pocket, pulling out a glowing spanreed pen. "Storms," she breathed. "I'm late." She looked back at the man and spoke, "Thank you for your help. However, I'm afraid I have an urgent matter to attend to. Perhaps we shall meet again." At that, she scooped her books back into her satchel, and set off quickly, the door banging shut behind her.
  6. Aln turned toward the man fully, raising an eyebrow. "Oh? Excellent. What sort of lodging would this be?"
  7. "I meant elsewhere in the city," Aln clarified. "Since you seem familiar with it, I was hoping for a point in the right direction."
  8. Aln fished for a moment in a deep pocket, then pulled out the chip and passed it to Malu. "I hope to return here at some point, once I have investigated those institutions you mentioned. In the meantime, might you direct me to some lodging?"
  9. "Quite illuminating," Aln responded. "Thank you. I shall seek them out. How much do I owe you for the stew?"
  10. Aln furrowed her brow. "Interesting." She took a bite of her stew as she recorded this in her notebook. She then looked up. "Do you happen to have a library here? Or perhaps a guild of scholars I could speak with? Much of this begs further research."
  11. "I see," said Aln, marking something in a small, worn notebook. "And do location based types of Investiture, such as AonDor, properly function here?" She pulled a thick book from her satchel and flipped it open to the chapter discussing AonDor.
  12. Aln replied, "Without, thank you." She paused, then asked, "I was also hoping that you could tell me a few things about this Alleyverse, and the Investiture therein. For example, how do Surgebinders aquire Stormlight without highstorms?"
  13. It's rather difficult to explain.
  14. Aln asked, "Do you have Rosharan stew?"
  15. The door swings open halfway, and in steps a short, curly-haired woman with a long coat. She reaches into one of her many pockets and pulls out a few spheres, two still glowing faintly with Stormlight. She clutches them in her hand, and moves toward the counter. "I would like to purchase a meal. Are spheres accepted currency here?" Her voice is quiet, and her words very carefully enunciated, emphasizing her faint accent.
  16. A slight woman with short, curly brown hair and a long coat entered the Library, examining the shelves piercingly and running her gaze over the occupants of the room. She pulled a worn notebook out of a satchel at her side, and made a careful notation. Replacing the pencil behind her ear, she spoke, adressing the room. "Is this the main Library in the Alleyverse? I was hoping for some information." Her words are quiet, and she has a strange, faint accent.
  17. I also have a question. If I want to change a part of my character sheet at some point, for example to join a guild or swear another oath, I have to get those changes approved by moderators, right?
  18. Awesome, thank you!
  19. 180... Is this too OP? My character is almost entirely non-combative, but I'm fine with making her less powerful. In answer to your question, she can see the words if she's in earshot of the person, and has a line of sight on them. I don't think that she'd be able to see the words in pitch black darkness, but she can make them out pretty well in dim lighting. She's a Truthwatcher, so we don't know for sure what her Oath would be in actual Canon, but I went with "I will seek knowledge wherever it can be found". This was when she was hesitant to leave behind everything she knew, but also realized that the Alleyverse could tell her a lot about the nature of the universe.
  20. If it's okay, I would like to add this character to the Alleyverse as my first character. I appologize for the length. Thank you.
  21. Yes, I think that that's definitely foreshadowing. We've seen Dalinar's connection with Gloryspren, so I think any mention of him drawing them is notable.
  22. Plus, there's still Dragonsteel to be rewritten at some point. Also, I love the name "Investiture Unleashed"!
  23. It's probably going to be something about accepting that he can't protect everyone. One of his conflicts in OB was This is just a prediction, and is quite possibly entirely false. However, I think it would be interesting to see, and is a natural progression of Kaladin's conflict (not that I think he needs MORE conflict in his life). It takes it in a slightly different direction, but I think that the above oath is definitely still valid.
