    That's okay, Aln responded. But how did you access it from the peak of a mountain? Is it a new form of Investiture? She paused for a moment, a small smile passing her lips, then wrote, Or a gift from the Nightwatcher? As she waited for the pen's response, she tacked the signature to the wall, and then pulled out a book on Investiture and began leafing through it.

    Aln picked up the pen and wrote back slowly. I see. I'll add you to the list, in that case. Best wishes in your current predicament. She hesitated, then added, If I may ask, how did you send your message? This spanreed is linked to my brother's, on Roshar.

    Aln stared at the pen. "What the storms?" She breathed. After a moment, she tore off the sheet and wrote a response on the paper underneath. "Trent? Was that you?"

    "We have a paper that you need to sign..." Aln glanced at the stack on her desk. "It's basically just saying that you want to become part of the Guild. We don't have particularly stringent requirements." "This is, indeed, the Scholar's Guild, and you are certainly welcome to join our ranks," Aln responded, picking up a slip of paper from the piles on her desk. "Just sign this." The paper read: I, the undersigned, hereby pledge myself to the Guild of Scholars, and promise to strive to gather and spread knowledge throughout the Alleyverse and corresponding worlds.     "Oh, I'm just referring to the Guild. We do have two members, so it is technically a 'we', but it's mostly my own initiative," Aln replied. "As for non-combative, I didn't like how every guild resembled a military organization. So I resolved that the Scholar's Guild would not participate in any wars, nor endorse any violence. That doesn't stop us from interacting with other Guilds, or even taking sides, theoretically, but hopefully we can avoid too much conflict "

    It's true. I bet the Doctor had travelled into more black holes than we can count long before that picture was taken. As a side note, that black hole picture made me nearly as excited as the end of Oathbringer. I have a copy of it hanging in my room.

    You know you're a Sanderfan when your brother gets annoyed by your constant Cosmere references- so you get one of his friends to read Mistborn and Stormlight, and now she helps.

    "Ah," responded Aln. "That explains a lot. Hopefully starting a new guild at this point isn't just asking for trouble. Still," she continued briskly, "That's why we're non-combative."

    Aln frowned thoughtfully, taking hurried notes. "I assume that you're both from Roshar as well?" Without waiting for a reply, she continued. "It seems most likely that only native Rosharans would have visited that particular spren. However, it is curious that so many similarly affected would end up here. Perhaps there's some sort of a connection between those who seek the Nightwatcher and those who find the Alleyverse." Aln furrowed her brow, and flipped to a new page in her notebook to continue writing. "In that case, a gathering of the sort you mentioned could be the perfect place to acquire relevant data." She paused for a moment, and then asked, "Recent turmoil? I'm afraid I'm rather out of the loop."

    Aln stared at him, startled. "Indeed? That is quite curious. If you don't mind my asking, how were you affected?" She rummaged in a pocket for a moment before pulling out a pencil and a cloth-bound notebook.

    Welcome to the Shard. I'm currently in a reverse of your situation; I've read nearly every Sanderson book, but I'm currently working my way though the Wheel of Time. Stormlight Archive is my favorite series by Brandon Sanderson, and the books so far have been some of my all time favorites. I hope you enjoy them.

    "What an interesting coincidence. I was born deaf, but a boon from the Nightwatcher granted me the ability to see spoken words," Aln replied. "Perhaps I should compile a list of all known boons and banes from the Old Magic. I wonder..." Aln trailed off in thought, staring at nothing.

    "I don't have any perfect gemstones myself, although I think that that book mentions them," Aln said, gesturing toward a large volume on a lower shelf. "You speak through a spren?" .

    Aln smiled. "Great." She accepted the paper back and pinned it to the wall. "You're welcome to go in the back, if you want. It's just a room for more private Guild discussion." Aln then looked toward Nultūk, browsing books. "Hello," she greeted him.

    "Um, yes," Aln replied. She picked up a small paper from a stack on her desk. Signed, _______________ Aln handed the paper to Arkos Garfield Alexander Ohne Maximus Hölle Hamilton Julian Kingsley Ebony III, and walked to the front of the room to add his name to the sign.

    Kaladin is most definitely a paladin.

    I think it's worth noting that he's now been reunited with his family. I don't think that they'll become his "friends" per se, but I do think that he can reconnect with them, and that they'll help him with the trust issues he's been struggling with.

    It's quite possible that it's simply part of someother religion on Roshar, that we don't see in as much depth. However, the other possibility is that it's something Beard heard from Azure/Vivenna. She could have mentioned it in passing, or without realizing that anyone heard, and he commandeered the term for his story. Of course, the first option's probably more likely.

    Aln swallowed. "I...yes, of course we'll accept you." She tried not to look at the crystals on Ark's arm. She glanced at the bodyguards again. "I do hope, thought, that you'll find no cause to bring protection next time you come. We don't appreciate violence." She picked up a pen. "What's your name?"

    Aln looked around as two more people entered her suddenly crowded study. She frowned at the weapons and the glares. "Welcome," she said to the newcomers, and then, to the bodyguards, "Those guns will not be necessary. Please, put them away." Her tone brooked no argument. On her desk, a spanreed flashed, but she ignored it.

    Aln stood up hesitantly from her seat behind her desk, pen in hand. Her eyes darted between the bodyguards, and she swallowed nervously. "Yes, I am she," she said, adressing Councilman Ark cautiously. "And you?" @Ark1002
