  1. Raven kept his eyes on Eryn's and didn't notice her fingers moving. "How perfect!" He smiled kindly and produced a card from his pocket with his name on it. "I'm staying at the Steel Inn down the street. Room 10. Come and find me when you get your answer." Raven moved to leave, then paused. "Oh, I didn't catch your name. What are you called?"
  2. The tall man sat down, resting his hands on his cane and looking about. This was a pretty church; it had grown to be one of his favorites during his short time here. "I came here because I believe I would find someone special. My mine is an important investment and I need some help with it. Managing it. Defending it. Are you and your companion interested?"
  3. Raven grinned at the woman's response, chuckling. Yes, this woman was special. No doubt her companion was as well. "Very astute," he said. "I had a good feeling about you. May I sit?"
  4. Whooo, my first post on the art blog, this is exciting! This is Heather and Pearl, Star's daughters. Heather is 18 and she's adopted, Pearl looks like she'd be like 2 in this picture. I find this picture quite anecdotal, to be honest. Little kids, however adorable, are not my cup of tea. I'm happy to say though, that Heather and Pearl do get along pretty well eventually. Heather just needs to get used to sharing her mother.
  5. Rose's trembling gradually came to a stop. Her face was pale and her skin was cold and her eyes continued to flutter. "The boy..." she mumbled. "Glass... It's all changing..." She would continue to mutter words for the next few minutes.
  6. Max should not have been alive. That probably should have tipped Sophie off that something wasn't quite right. She, however, was overcome with joy. The blue young woman shook her nephew awake. "Granite, Granite, look!" Granite rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. "What time is it...?" "It's your COUSIN!" Sophie giggled. "Looky, looky, isn't that wonderful!" It took Granite a hot second to brush the Narration-induced sleep from his eyes and come to, but when he did... "Holy storms. Max?" Granite grinned. "What are you doing here, how are you even alive?"
  7. There was no change in Rose's physical state, except that her shaking got worse. Much worse. She spasmed, tears running down her cheeks. After a few moments of sporadic movement, the trembling lessened and she whimpered. Her eyes fluttered under their lids.
  8. Rose stopped in place, looking at the little boy. Everything else fell away for a moment, sounds fading, the edges of her vision blurring until she could see nothing but his pale eyes. The stool fell still. Please calm yourself. You're making my head hurt. Hurting me... Rose shuddered, feeling a chill. And then, everything went black. You had to go away Rose, you had to be locked up lest you hurt someone. You're dangerous, you're unhealthy, something is wrong with you... Feelings. Thoughts. Visions. When she was in this state, they came to her full force, vivid and terrifying. Things that had happened, things that were happening now, things that had yet to occur. But it was too much. She couldn't sort through it all, much less take any meaning from it. Though she couldn't feel her body anymore, she tried to turn away from it all the same. It was useless. Her powers were no gift, as her mother had insisted. They were a curse and they made her an abomination. In the tavern, Rose's body thumped to the floor. Her trembling, however, did not cease. Sweat coalesced on her forehead and though she made no noise, her face was contorted in a look of agony.
  9. Rose's eyes widened. By Jezrien, I'm seeing things again. Her fingers began trembling again, and then, to her horror, a nearby stool began to tremble as well. Oh, no. "I'm sorry, but we have to go." Rose took Jahora by the hand and began pulling him along with her towards the door. The stool only rattled faster.
  10. @AmazingGoob @Lecky Twig A third person? No! Rose panicked a bit. "We don't need anyone else," she said tersely. Her expression, however, did not match her slightly aggressive tone. She didn't meet Kess's eyes and underneath her hood, her pale face and pensive grey eyes made her look almost child-like. Unease stirred in the room, bringing her anxiety to a boil. If they didn't leave soon, Rose's powers might break something. She could feel them within her. They'd been longing for a reason to let loose and now they had it. Let's get out of here, Jahora, please.
  11. Welp, my Shardiversary snuck up on me this year, so I didn’t have enough time to make any art, I hope you’ll forgive me. (I might come up with something later though) However, I did have plenty of time to write up some words that I hope are meaningful.

Two years, man. Honestly, that sounds way too short. Waaaaay too much has happened in that time for it to only have been two years. Huge strides in planning Keyed with @xinoehp512, getting so much better at my art that it’s mind-blowing, being diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and cyclic vomiting syndrome, getting into yoga, going from middle school to high school, and ya know, everything having to do with that little global pandemic, maybe you heard about it. I won’t lie, the last year has been incredibly hard for me. I’ve had some of the lowest lows I can remember… but also some of the highest highs, like getting to meet up with @Butt Ad Venture in the summer and having such a blast with Inktober. But ya know, one thing I have learned this year is that times when you’re the most broken down are the times that you get to connect the deepest with other people. Kinda personal, I suppose, but for most of my life I’ve been in the role of helping other people. And this year… this year that got reversed. And it felt good. Really good. ^_^ So now it’s my turn to thank you guys for that.

First I gotta shout out @xinoehp512. I know I tell you this all the time, but you mean more to me than you could possibly know and nobody in the world could possibly replace you. Each word you say is precious to me and getting to know you this past year has been a magical adventure. All the hugs, my buddy.

Second, @Butt Ad Venture. You are a handful and it is honestly a miracle that we are still friends after all our ups and downs. But through it all, I have been amazed at your ability to apologize and, more importantly, to forgive. Stars know I don’t deserve a good amount of that forgiveness. You’ve grown so much since I met you and I am immensely proud of that growth. Your heart and soul are among the most precious I have ever had the privilege of getting to know.

@AonEne, I have no idea how we had such a rocky start, but it has been a joy to get to know you. Thanks again for the notebooks, for the emotional support, and for your unwavering, yet gentle and kind personality. The world needs more people like you.

It’s quite the incredible experience to get to know someone so jarringly similar to yourself and for me, that’s @Jaywalk. You are a riot and a gem; your writing, your humor, and your personality are *chef’s kiss* I know this year has been hard for you and while I cannot promise that anything will get better, I can promise that my heart goes out to you and that you WILL get through this. You’re stronger than you think and you’re amazing. All the hugs for you, too.

@BringerofShadows, I miss talking with you so much. Whatever you’re up to nowadays, I hope you’re not overworked and that you keep a little snark and magic in your pocket. I love your unapologetic personality and massive presence and wish you well.

@AonDii, keep being your fabulous self. I said on the yearbook thread that you can do anything and I really believe that’s true. :D I mean seriously, the real question is what CAN’T you do. You cook like a boss, you fence, you play the double bass, you do rainbow loom stuff, and read epic fantasy??? Bruh. You’re awesome. (Like you need to be told that :P

@I Don't Know I miss you so much and I hope I can see your face soon. I’m so glad that we’ve been able to keep in touch even though you’ve moved away. You are a wonderful friend.

@Truthless of Shinovar and @Rosharan A.C. you are the most dynamic duo ever. Keep being excellent, keep bringing your energy to everything.

@Lunamor you’re great. I nominated you for Most Likely To Brighten Your Day for the yearbook (as well as Friendliest Sharder I think????) and I totally stand by that. You are an icon. :D

@Nathrangking you are just about the most earnest person I know. I’m so glad you’re on the Shard.

@Condensation, @Channelknight Fadran, @Hentient, @Matrim's Dice, @Mist, @Bearer of all agonies, and @revelryintheart. Y’all are the new kids and I haven’t gotten to know you guys very well. But from what I have seen…

Connie, you are incredibly positive and fun to be around. I’m so glad you like Crime and Punishment as much as I do.

Fadran, I know you deny compliments often, but trust me. The moment I met you, I was like, “... Dang, yeah, I can see why this dude is as popular as he’s become.” You are absolutely hilarious and you have a very unique vibe. I’m not sure how to describe it, but I’m sure people would agree with me. :P

Hentient, your bright, enthusiastic energy is dangerously contagious. If you’re not careful, you could cure someone’s depression. :D

Matrim (and @Tesh) it was so fun to make Secret Santa gifts for you. Previously, making art for gifts wasn’t really something I did but this year I saw how happy it made people and that was a super gratifying experience.

Mist, I love the dynamic you have with your sisters. I remember when I first saw your usernames, they were all on the “recently browsing” of a thread I was reading and I thought, Wow, what a funny coincidence. Knowing you’re all sisters is so bliving awesome. But aside from that, I love being a mod with you on the LDS server and I’ll never forget how friendly you were to me the first time we talked.

Bearer, I love the work you’ve done on the yearbook and I’m so glad you’re part of the Oakenwey RP. (same with you, @Lecky Twig, I am so freaking happy that RP has taken off and your character is so fun ^_^)

And finally Rev, your art is incredible and so are you.

WHOOOO, that was a lot. Happy new year, everyone! Thank you for tolerating me, I love you all.

  12. Rose flinched at his touch, her breath catching. And yet, it calmed her. Her thoughts stilled for some reason. When he went back to his soup, Rose sat unmoving for a moment. Her mind was silent and she stared forward sightlessly. ”Have you finished?” he said, snapping her out of her quiet reverie. “I'm ready to go when you are." ”Oh,” she mumbled. She turned to her soup and took three hasty, massive bites. “Yes, I’m done.” Rose stood up from her stood, adjusting her back and cloak. “We can go.”
  13. Rose's eye caught the spoon moving towards him and she flinched. He... He'd just... Rose, you're imagining things. She shook herself. No one was like her, no one except the odd characters in her family. Blue skin, talking statues, hair made of fire, white eyes, and food that appeared out of thin air. Maybe I imagined all of that as well... But she knew that wasn't true. She could never never convince herself otherwi- He'd asked her a question. FOCUS. She looked at him nervously. "I..." Respectable? Me? "I... have little else to do. I've never liked people, might as well... get rid of some undesirable ones." She paled. Had she said that out loud? "That came out wrong. I just..." She sighed, finding herself trembling slightly. Maybe going on this hunt with someone else wasn't a good thing after all.... But she'd already said yes and she didn't have the courage to go back on it. "Sorry..." Rose whispered.
  14. Rose's eyes widened slightly at the mention of the money. Sixty thousand? she thought. Storms. She'd grown up rather poor, such a sum of money was near-unthinkable to her. How long would that have sustained her aunt and uncle's family? How much longer would it sustain her, all on her own? Storms... she thought again. "I'm Rose," she said, reaching for the file to put it in her pack. The file - and the soup that she quickly turned to after grabbing it - was a perfect excuse not to meet the man's eyes. Blue eyes. Like her mother's. Rose, forget about that woman for ONE moment! For someone you want to forget, you spend an awful lot of time thinking about her. She knew it wasn't her fault. Her thoughts had been hard to control ever since she was little because of her cursed future sight. At least since she'd learned the truth about her powers, her night-terrors had stopped. Hopefully her uncontrollable thoughts would cease as well in time. For now, she'd simply do her best to focus. Jahora had said that someone was watching them, hadn't he? She glanced behind her for a brief moment, spotting the a pair of men eyeing them. So much for the notoriety of a young woman. She should try to make conversation with the man. Act like friends, like he'd asked. Small talk, however, was not something she was good at. Not at all. She'd spent her days alone in her room, reading, trying to hide from her visions. People had always frightened her and having another person right next to her induced a feeling of simmering anxiety. But asking him to scoot over was even more nerve-racking. She'd have to deal with it. Questions that she could ask him tumbled around in her head. Where do you come from? What do you like to do? How old are you? But each one felt dry and tasteless and she knew that if she said them aloud, they would only come off as cold. Instead, she said, "I'm assuming its unsafe to talk about how we plan to go about it here?"
  15. Well, it's the new year! How are the yearbook superlatives comin' along, @Bearer of all agonies?
  16. Raven strode out of an alcove in the church, eyeing the masked woman and her companion. He was not a priest - they may have been holy men, but their connection to the Survivor was a weak flicker compared to Raven's roaring flame, and besides, Raven had his own sacred duty to perform - but he was well known enough here. Since his acquisition of the mine, he'd been staying around this part of town (in secret, of course, as directed by the Master) and waiting for someone. Kelsier said he'd know them when the time was right and Raven had a feeling about these two. He never ignored such feelings. The tall man strode up to the pair. They'd dismissed the priests, but Raven was confident they wouldn't dismiss him. His rich clothing and the knowing gleam in his eye were more than enough to mark him as an important man, a man who it would be... unwise to ignore. "Excuse me," he said, "I don't believe I've seen you in town before and it's good to see people worshiping in this holy place. My name is Basil Naseir and I own the mine a few miles away. Is there anything I can do for you?" @Kingsdaughter613 @Lecky Twig
  17. The man said that like it was a bad thing. Joining her. Having someone at her side would be far safer for her, especially since this was her first time on the job. The only bad thing she could think of would be that he might take some of her prize money and that was perfectly fine with her. "You can come along with me," she said, slightly distracted, "that's fine. How much is she worth?" She gazed at the image of her target. Blonde hair. Like her mother. Yes, she'd be willing to kill this woman. Damnation, she would have killed Star for free... Rose shook herself. "What's her name?"
  18. Hey, happy new year's eve, every body. Hopefully next year won't be as crappy. Or maybe it'll be worse! We don't know. But whatever comes, I know we'll have each other. ^_^
