Amen to this! People around them tend to become better than they were before, and they have a friend who knows Hoid (more on that in a moment) who is a Keeper of religions and cultures. Kelsier sacrificed his brother for his plan, while Kaladin's brother was the sacrifice for someone else's plan, despite all that Kal did to protect him. Kelsier's love interest was killed protecting him, while Kaladin's main love interests chose a different path than one with Kaladin. In regards to Hoid, Kelsier and Hoid have a very, very antagonist relationship. Kaladin and Hoid have a much healthier one. Not fully healthy, but it's net positive.- 9 replies

I'd usually agree, but since the synopsis states that "the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation," in this case I'm inclined to think it's the Voidbringers going to Aimia, Venli is able to warn the Radiants, and the Radiants follow in order to stop them.
-
Mine too. But Shard's aren't exactly trustworthy, and it's after that generation things get iffy. I'd LIKE to think that Odium would protect them too, but that requires an amount of trust I'm not sure I have to give is the point.

Oh that's not what I'm worried about. It was about Odium pulling a technicality and saying "I'm only protecting this first generation. So long suckers!" which is totally what some other shards would do (Odium explicitly mentions Honor in this capacity), versus him actually protecting/not destroying future generations of Kharbranth.

Oh that's a good idea! Maybe humans figure out Half-shards completely, leading to a breakthrough that could wake up the sibling? In return, the Voidbringers launch a dangerous mission to Aimia, in order to find and/or use whatever resource is there?

I feel you. Of the last four releases Brandon's done (Legion 3, the MTG novella, Skyward, and Starsight) I only truly loved one of them. And part of that worries me. Granted, just because we're super fans doesn't mean we have to like everything Brandon makes. But the declining ratio of "loves" to "it's alright" worries me a tad. That being said, my opinions might change on repeat visits...at least for Starsight. I need to finish the MTG novella as well; but I don't plan on revisiting Legion anytime soon, unless a show is made from the material.
-
So OB had a "focus" on Urithiru, Thaylenah, and Kholinar (past and present); RoW might have a focus on the Singer homeland if you will, Alethkhar, Aimia, Iri, and the Reshi isles? Then Book 5 would "focus" on Shinovar and the Horneater Peaks? Meh, just spit-balling.
-
He could, but he makes a point of sticking to the "spirit of the law," rather than the letter. But that also requires we trust Odium, who isn't really all that trustworthy. It could go either way, really...

The Rise of Skywalker SPOILER EDITION
Use the Falchion replied to Truthless of Shinovar's topic in Entertainment Discussion
My point was that TCW is George and Filoni's show, and that "Filoni's show" aka the Mandalorian (which is really Favreau and Filoni's show at least, and Favreau's show at most) has muddled/complicated the Mandalorian history. Public outcry from nearly a decade previously. Lucas was under no pressure by then - we had all moved on. But George did it anyways because HE wanted to do it, not because of us. Honestly I'm the same. But the Mandalorian arc is a multi-season plot. This makes it an awesome thing to behold, but it is an investment if you're not sold on the series yet. And I never hear of people talking about the Mandalorian plot outside of the show. Before TROS (and even before TLJ) I heard theory after theory about how the Mortis arc could tie everything together. I read post after post and video after video about how good the Mortis arc was. I didn't understand why it was seemingly everyone's favorite, but it was. And George came up with it all. So yeah, he gets credit. -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3HbbzHK5Mc So the new trailer for this movie came out, and I just wanted to put it here if people want to talk about it. Those who do, how do you feel about this movie? Are you excited? Nervous? Cautiously optimistic?

They're not, but that's not the point. It's to help contextualize people outside of "the masses." Who are these "masses?" To me, it's friends and family who come from all sorts of backgrounds and feel all sorts of ways about previous pieces of Star Wars. So instead of saying "random people on X social media platform," at least I can say "hey my friend who liked X also liked Y," or "my sister hated X but loved Y," and now you can too. Just plot points on a personal graph. But if you want some more data (oh hey I make a cameo on one of those!)... https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2487583/the-mandalorian-all-8-episodes-of-season-1-ranked https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/rank-the-mandalorian-season-1.57269/ https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_mandalorian/s01 And George's show. Filoni AND George's show. As for that plot point, they also completely muddle whatever lore "Filoni's show" brought in And they wouldn't have had a job if it wasn't for him. And you know the most surprising villain return in the show? It was George's decision to bring him back. You know the most talked about arc in the show (it's the Mortis Arc)? All from the mind of George. The man who also created your iconic Original Trilogy. -

And neither was TCW originally. In fact, most people I know - and the creators are VERY aware of this fact - only liked TCW after it had ended. But not giving GL credit for creating, producing, giving inspiration to, and PERSONALLY FUNDING one of the best shows Star Wars has ever done is not fair to the creator of the franchise we love so much. Is George perfect? Absolutely not. But he deserves credit where credit is due. And that is definitely with TCW. He's not the only person who deserves credit, but he DOES deserve a good portion of it. He can, but you said you didn't know what JJ looked to for inspiration, and I'm simply providing that info. And that's fine! I'm glad you're sharing that, and I personally liked them all too. Maybe not all of them to the degree you do, but enough all the same. But this isn't the only forum I'm a member of - and so I keep an eye on things on the other ones as well. I also ask people what they think of stuff, if only to see more perspectives. -
The Rise of Skywalker SPOILER EDITION

They both are. Virtually every movie up until TROS has new ships. It's not about advertising, it's about creativity and novelty. It's about the fun of "oh we haven't seen that before! That's cool!" There's an excitement in that novelty, like opening a gift on Christmas day. If someone wants to sell toys from it - which was the reason behind a LOT of decisions in Star Wars, so it's not unfounded - go for it. But I just like seeing new things in Star Wars. Like the U-Wings in Rogue One. Why weren't they at Yavin? Doesn't matter, they're cool. Don't you remember when the AT-AT's were cool? Or the Scout Troopers on Endor? What about the Clone's armor and gunships? It's really, really not. https://www.history.com/news/the-real-history-that-inspired-star-wars But he didn't write it (Favreau did), nor did he film a majority of it (he filmed two episodes - the two which fans I've talked to find the least interesting.*) nor did he personally fund it. Filoni also greenlit and produced Rebels and Resistance. How do you feel about those? The point was that Hux being a spy is another notch on the post of TROS answering all questions and fulfilling all fanservice. Fan-named military maneuver? Let's use that in-universe. Fan theories from years ago? Let's make them work out. That's the point. It doesn't matter, nor does it have to for you. Like I said, take it as you will. JJ has explicitly compared the First Order to Neo Nazis. https://time.com/4010014/j-j-abrams-star-wars-force-awakens-villain-nazi/ Don't worry. I've read most of the new canon material and have watched all of the shows (not up to date on Resistance just yet, but I'm far enough). It hasn't made sense in those either. A lot of people have been reaching out to use non-canon material in order to justify some of the things in the movie. Using the Visual Dictionary is fine, but using Legends material is a no-go. Anyways I'm glad you liked the movie!! I'm sure if someone who could see in the Cognitive Realm saw Rey they'd see an afterimage... *That isn't to say they are bad, but the most complaints I've heard have been for The Pilot, The Sanctuary, and The Gunslinger. -
I did chaotic good, as that's what he becomes by the end of Era 1 and pre-Era 2. But usually I'd say he's chaotic neutral. Kelsier doesn't really care about rules, regulations, or morality. He makes people better, but that doesn't mean he himself is good. He's not evil per-se, but I don't think he'd have a problem siding with evil for the short term (so long as he can con said evil later on and make them pay). I guess he's more like BBC's Sherlock in the first few seasons. He's "on the side of angels" but never mistake him for being one.

Maybe a feint or calculated destruction? Make Ashyn looks so destroyed that whoever - whatever (Odium) - was targeting them simply deigned it no longer worth the effort? Maybe a feint gone wrong?
-
I mean, the Unmade (and more than one of the Heralds) have been compared to the Forsaken a couple of times by fans, so it's not too big of a leap.
-
That's a really cool idea! Maybe she could sense a certain species on Detritus and decided it was a prime location? If they knew about Detritus being lost to a Delver, it's also be a cool message. Like she's saying in her dying act that "this is what will happen if you continue down your path, but here's an alternate route."

Joel, Spensa, and David are all cut from the same cloth (dead dads, obsessed with a magic system they can't use, poor, rebellious but just successful enough to get away with it, and good leaders when given the chance), but have differing enough experiences and personalities that it's not too distracting. Spensa also has shades of Vin and Shallan in her, but not enough to be fully either. Melody from The Rithmatist is basically a non-traumatized Shallan (red-hair, overdramatic, artistic, has issues with her parents and older brother, and has NO idea how to "properly" use her power, but does great work anyways, whereas Megan takes Shallan's powers (and subsequent identity crisis) up to eleven. Lift is a talkative, pacifistic Vin in some ways. Mistborn Trilogy and Wheel of Time Spoilers: Alcatraz is exactly what would happen if Lift wrote the Stormlight Archive (wacky, zany, crazy, with just enough of a plot to work; and just enough depth in the hero to know that most of it is a bluff). David and Wax. Both have strong senses of justice that border on obsession, are ACTUALLY obsessed with guns (and very, very skilled at using them); they annoy their superiors with their success and recklessness, and most importantly HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH BRANDON WRITING THEIR SEQUELS (*cries in The Lost Metal and The Apocalypse Guard*)- 9 replies

Creationspren? But the idea of Brandon having Brandonspren is awesome. Thank you. Oh, I GOT IT! The Sanderbots are actually FABRIALS! Brandon catches spren (maybe the Brandonspren, maybe the creationspren?) and uses them to power the Sanderbots.

We know Kaladin's parents, so unless Brandon is going to pull an Immaculate Conception on us, I doubt it's this one. Also possible, but then why Tanavast specifically? Saying Son of Honor works fine, as Honor the Shard and Tanavast the person are/were two different things. Maybe one of the splinters of Honor was forced into a human, or gained sentience and is related to Kaladin in some sort of way. Maybe that was Nohadon and Kaladin is related to Nohadon. Maybe it's Brandon trolling us. Maybe it's something that'll come in play in the second half of the series. But honestly, I have no idea and I LOVE THAT. That we know of just yet, but there's a LOT about Nohadon we don't know.

Stormlight 4 Is Finished!!!!!!!!!!
Use the Falchion replied to Ookla the Foreclosed's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It's too awesome! Hopefully that means that this book's drafts will be quick and relatively painless, with no major scenes needing to be reworked. That would leave more time for Songs of the Dead drafts, Alcatraz 6 drafts (if needed), and finally, finally, FINALLY writing W&W4. Hopefully. -

Maybe they aren't, but they're still in the DNA of Star Wars. Even the Disney Era films have had them, albeit in decreasing amounts. Ha! Thanks for the chuckle. I needed it. Except the Ewoks being stand-ins for the Vietcong, or the Emperor being based off of Nixon. They get an B for trying and not pulling back any punches. That's how TROS feels to me. Any shock or emotion they tried to give, they immediately backed out on. Chewie's dead? NOPE, he's alive two scenes later. Kijimi's blown up, along with these two characters we just got to know? NOPE, they're alive and well! Poe's given up because no one answered the call? NOPE, everyone's here to save the day. Rey's tempted to join the Dark Side? NOPE, not even once. Finn and Poe are about to die? NOPE, because their banter gives it away, and Hux HAS to be the traitor.* Nothing stays after the movie is gone. The status quo is back to normal - or worse, probably - and I HATE that. Again, how I feel about TROS. One of the on-going jokes is that TROS was written by Reddit, and it's not hard to see why. All of the major complaints from TLJ and the ST as a whole were addressed in pretty cheesy ways to seemingly satiate fans. Holdo Maneuver mentioned outright by storming name; Rey Nobody retconned to being both a Palpatine and a Skywalker by the end of the movie; Reylo in general; Rose's reduced screentime; Palpatine back because Snoke failed; a reason as to why Snoke failed...belonging to the fans is a legitimate thing, but "written by fans," or at least giving the appearance of that isn't good. I mean, it's supposed to say that Rey's parents don't really influence who she can become. Her story is her own. This is backed by the reveal that she's supposedly a nobody. Rey is Rey, not a legacy character. But this was retconned. It was his idea, and he pushed it forward, personally worked on it, and personally funded it. He deserves that credit. Filoni also deserves that credit, but there's more than enough credit to go around. What George - and his apprentice Filoni - needed was a counterbalance. In the OT it was Kasdan who provided that counterbalance. In TCW it was Filoni. In the PT he had none, and that's why things went off. *Hux being a traitor has been a rumor since pre-TFA days, so take from that what you will. -
The Rise of Skywalker SPOILER EDITION
Use the Falchion replied to Truthless of Shinovar's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Which is why Finn had the breather and why the closed the door as soon as Rey got on the Falcon. As for the battle on Exogul...you're right about that. Huh. Again, this is all over Disney and is serial escalation. So it's a symptom of a problem, but not the problem itself. Rey was shown healing things earlier on, and clearly has a knowledge of what healing is and how to do it. What more do you want? The problem shouldn't be her healing things. Ah, gotcha! And that clip never said anything about brining back the dead. Palpatine said Plagueis could stop his "loved ones" from dying, but not bring them back. That's a different set of powers. Plagueis couldn't do it. I'm assuming Kylo could only do it because 1) Rey gave some of her life-force to him earlier on to heal and 2) they were connected. As it goes, the special bond was...weirdly explained I completely agree. Snoke bridged their minds in TLJ, creating the bond in the first place, and now it's actually some sort of prophecy? That was pushing it. A lot. I mean, they were on the edge of Outer Space, and he did have at least one planet of loyal volunteers...Again, it's flimsy and stupid, but not immersion breaking for me. New ones? Every movie added new ships or SOMETHING to the world. We got carriers and Boba Fett in ESB, Scout Troopers and Walkers in ROTJ, all sorts of new things in TPM, AT-TE's and all of the other Clone War tech in AOTC, some tech that bridged the Clone Wars and the OT in ROTS and Solo, at least Starkiller Base in TFA (and sleeker designs of older ships, but that only works once), "Gorilla" walkers, miniature Death Star tech, and the skimmers on Crait in TLJ. To your point, we got the little speeders on Pasana, but that's all that sticks out to me after two viewings...and those don't really excite my inner-child. Because it's a stylistic transition unique to Star Wars. Like how now after Deadpool we associate the "three point landing" as a "superhero landing," the transitions help us know we're in Star Wars. You're not wrong. A lot of problems I have in the movie aren't always related to the movie itself. But I'm always trying to talk about the ones related to the movie. Oh absolutely, most of the emotional beats in TLJ fall completely flat. The only two that worked was everyone on the Falcon in the end (which is totally where they should have ended the movie. Nobody needed Broom Boy), and when Luke walked in at the end. But Star Wars is about Hope, Community, and Dreams. It's about becoming a better person than you were, and overcoming your past. It's about redemption, and how those who want to be redeemed can find it (which excluded Kylo, as for the past two movies he didn't really want it outside of one moment). And not to mention more than a little politics. TLJ plays and twists these themes in interesting - if not annoying and offensive - ways. And more importantly, it keeps the integrity of Lucas' vision with Star Wars. George wanted to push the boundaries of cinema technology and storytelling with Star Wars - especially the prequels. You see this with some of the weirder ideas he put into The Clone Wars cartoon, specifically the Mortis arc (which many fans adore...I am not one of them). RJ wasn't afraid of going weird either, but the weirdness was always rooted back into something familiar (Rey and Ren's bond echoing how Luke and Leia could sense each other; the trippy cave echoing Luke's own cave adventure on Dagoba). -
OH, OH YES. Maybe she makes a live-action appearance in order to get back what's hers! I don't think Filoni and Favreau will do her dirty...especially between this and a rumored Rebels sequel.
