Thanks for the spell check! I'll change that. I actually felt the opposite; I don't like Luka at all. He's plain to me. Kagami is a match for Adrien's skill, is assured enough to know what she wants, and confident enough to go for it. Kagami is a lot like Ladybug, which is probably why Adrien likes her. And Ladybug holds some of Marinette's best qualities. Once Marinette can combine her Ladybug qualities with her inherit civilian ones, then she'll be the best version of herself and Adrien will truly see her. But until that time Kagami is his best match IMO.

I like Kagami as a character more than I do Marinette (but I LOVE Marinette's name), but I think I like Marinette & Adrien as a couple more than I do Kagami & Adrien (but only BARELY). I think Kagami is who Adrien needs right now; Marinette would be too much of a "Yes Honey" girlfriend to Adrien, and Adrien needs to know how relationships actually work before he gets involved with someone like Marinette.

Super fun notes from this signing! Brando Beard Cosmerenauts Dawnshard is about Dawnshards; Rysn and THE LOPEN?! They'll go to Aimia. Not hugely integrated, but the Aimia trip WILL be mentioned in RoW. Rysn interlude won't spoil the novella. Alcatraz 6 is being illustrated. The Apocalypse Guard needs a draft done - he needs to fix the ending. Sometime during these next couple YEARS. It'll be 2-3 weeks of work. Strong plausibility that it'll be fixed in the coming months. Non-Cosmere collection - lots of stories; Snapshot wasn't green-lit as a movie. They'll do the collection at some point. He's sending stuff out under false names to see if it'll get published in magazines. New cool talks happening around Snapshot. Spain wants to take Defending Elysium and do a Spanish translation in conjunction with Skyward series. Secret project means he's felt too constrained and he's started writing something else. Sanderson is a Hydro Homie WoKP spoilers: Dalinar & Elhokar relationship was a slight spoiler. Slight stuff with Taln. The visions vs insanity arc was transplanted to Dalinar. Other minor slight things will show up. Watch out for editors that want to make your book into something THEY would want to read vs making the story the best version of YOUR story. Best taco equivalent: depends on how you feel about soulcast meat (which is an acquired taste). Chouta may be best Cosmere street-food. Scadrial has the most Earth-like stuff. THE SACRED TEXTS! We saw into the Spritiual Realm of the Cosmere. WE SAW A GLIMPSE INTO THE WIKI. Brandon gets to focus on Theme, Character, and Story. Shallan killed her mom when she was eleven (Karen accidentally spoiled it. The chat proceeded to put in mass known spoilers for other non-Brandon series. It was pretty funny). Laresh was combined with Lamaril for the Anniversary edition (?) Sureblood is introduced earlier. Peter and Karen talk about a LOT of stuff and shared really interesting screenshots; I'll leave it to other Sharders to dissect them.

I forgot to mention this on this thread, but if Renarin x Lift doesn't happen, then I'd be interested in seeing how Renarin x Rysn would work.

Way of Kings Prime Full Spoiler Discussion
Use the Falchion replied to Use the Falchion's topic in Way of Kings Prime
After his defection to Ahven, I always had the distinct impression it was Balenmar who killed not-Gavilar. Not-Gavilar did something that Balenmar advised against, and so Balenmar killed him and decided that Elhokar would be a...more willing puppet of a sorts. And it worked for a bit. Maybe The Traitor saw what happened and Balenmar framed him. Maybe The Traitor found out he would be the scapegoat and decided to take the credit and defend himself, because then he could control the narrative if he won. I honestly don't know past that. By the end I thought that Balenmar may even be Ishar, but I think the last lines pointed to someone else I believe, but the clothing distinctions proved me wrong. I can't answer the other questions about it though. Add in the fact that -
Other than the generic "I would copyright/pitch/invest in XYZ" I can think of four personal ones, of which I'll only share one. I would have stood up to a teacher my senior year in high school. I went to a conservative private school, and it didn't always shape my outlook for the better as a kid (being one of three black kids in the entire grade for nine to ten years...well...the less I think about it, the better). There was a teacher who GROSSLY misconstrued a cultural thing that happened in politics at the time; it was so minor it wasn't worth bringing up to a class of apathetic high-schoolers, but he did. And while I wasn't entirely sure I was right about said event at the time, I knew more about the culture in which the event took place in than my teacher and knew for a FACT he was wrong.* I desperately wish I could have either stood up and educated him in the moment or at least after class in order to make him fix his mistake. I knew I was missing something! Thank you! I'd GO BACK AND ERASE THE LAST AIRBENDER MOVIE. GIVE ME MORE SEASONS OF A PERFECT SHOW OR END IT WITH THREE, NOT THAT ABOMINATION. But maybe this counts as too heroic of an action lol! Or I'd go back and somehow convince Lucasfilm to make my revision of the Sequel Trilogy. Don't worry, Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo are all still in the revision (because it's a revision, not a completely different idea.**) *I later had a chance to study said culture, and yeah, that teacher was so wrong it wasn't even funny. I mean, it's sort of funny, but not in a humorous sort of way. **Except for The Rise of Skywalker. The others at least keep the heart and soul of the author's intent in place, along with most character arcs. TROS had a complete revision to the point that they only really have the name in common.

Good to know! Thanks for the fact check.

Jasnadin for the win! Also, if Kaladin marries Jasnah now, that would make him Queen Consort or King, depending on which title they use. And then one could say...that the way of kings (or rather The Way of Kings) involves the path of slaves. It would also add a bit of subtle allusion to the name of the book. The Way of Kings is not just a book that Dalinar depends on, but the path Kaladin himself is walking, we just didn't realize it yet. *Technically not true, since she still has to speak Truths instead of Oaths, but thematically it works.

There was one romance arc, at the end. But it was poorly done. Shipping isn't limited to heterosexual relationships, and Shiro had been confirmed to be gay. Even if he hadn't, when has sexuality really stopped fans from shipping? Case and point, how many people in the Stormlight fandom ship Adolin & Kaladin? Or an OT3 between Adolin, Shallan, and Kaladin? Shipping is based on a lot of things, romance arcs are usually not one of them. Heck, a lot of times romance arcs can actually impede shipping, since the direction the romance moves may not be the direction the fans want it to move (again using Stormlight, there were a few fans upset that Shalladin didn't happen and Shadolin did. Not enough to cause a giant stir, but enough to be noticeable). As to how many ships the Voltron fandom could have possibly come up with...well, everyone was shipped with pretty much everyone, as far as I know. The main ones I remember were: Keith x Shiro, Keith & Lance, Keith & Allura, and Keith & Acxa. But the list goes on... The show had far more issues than just shipping, but to deny the pure frenzy shipping whipped the fandom into would be like trying to ignore an elephant in a room. Mind you, my involvement in all of this was very limited. I tried the show when it came out, got three episodes in, and dropped it until right before the final season aired. I binged the first three-four seasons, and then skimmed through the last two because of how boring they were.
-
On one hand, I totally understand. Romance and shipping can be distracting and feel like fan-service. And when a majority of the fandom is entirely based on shipping it largely diminishes the story being told (I have this problem with The Dragon Prince and its fandom as a whole - I like the story and love the characters; and I like shipping, but the subreddit is 45% Rayllum, 45% memes, and 10% discussion about whatever controversy has popped up this month/tirades about the clickbait news for Season 4; the Fire Emblem fanbase is a far more complex issue). On the other hand, the signs of romance and shipping are signs of a lively* fanbase, a great source of inspiration for fan-art, and a decent source for conversation and discourse. This thread is proof of that! On the other other hand, there's nothing that says that romance and epic fantasy have to be mutually exclusive. My shounen manga can have romance and work out just fine (look at Rurouni Kenshin), my horror/slasher can be funny (just watch You Might Be the Killer), and my comedy can - and probably should - have moments to discuss serious topics (Brooklyn Nine-Nine's episode "Moo-Moo"). To me it's all about balance, personal growth, the arc of the character, and most importantly, the skill of the author. If a relationship can push a character to where fans feel like said character needs to go while still being entertaining, then I'm all for it. If it's a hindrance, then I'll probably be against it. If it helps explore a new side of the character, then it can be useful. If it's just for the sake of drama, then one should reconsider (maybe keep it in, but be wary of how much or what it's there for). Sanderson is not the best at romance, but I'd say a majority of his romances have been received positively. I don't see a reason for him to stop trying to improve those now. Overall romance in fantastical tales goes back to The Epic of Gligamesh in some ways, and is ALL over Arthurian lore. The amount of shipping is so low in Sanderson's fandoms due to the fact that most romances are obvious on Day 1 and/or are arranged marriages; so what we discuss here is more of an anomaly than a regularity. But it's totally your preference and there's nothing wrong with that! *Lively does not mean healthy. The Voltron fanbase was apparently quite lively, and it's infamous for the sheer toxicity it contained.

During one of the streams Brandon mentioned how being an Eagle Scout had shaped him, and someone in the stream asked about the Rosharan equivalent. NeoBahamutX later posited the name Chicken Scout - since all birds on Roshar are called chickens - and the meme was born.* Sanderson then jokingly said it could be a stretch goal if all other stretch goal tiers were met, and the rest is history. The Chromatic part comes from the colors of the Knights Radiant, who embody pretty much the entire spectrum of colors. They chose not to do "Rainbow Chicken Scouts" because they felt like it would be appropriating Pride Month and other LGBTQ+ symbolism for personal gain. Ergo, Chromatic. There were those in the chat - myself included - who feel/felt like the Chromatic Chicken Scouts would do great as a series of elementary school/kids' books. NeoBahamutX may have asked about the Rosharan equivalent. Either way they seem to be credited as the one of the founding fathers of the meme.

lol feel free to do as you will! Season 4 is coming out next year, so it might be a little inactive until that season comes out, or more people find and watch the show.
-
Gotcha thanks for the correction. Interesting idea about Venli and Group 1!
-
I'm starting to think that way as well. I still think that Shallan and Adolin will be Group 2, but I can also see that being Kaladin and another character now, and the story Wit tells affecting Kaladin during a dark time, inspiring him to take that Fourth Oath. But if Kaladin is in Group 2, that would probably move Shallan and Adolin to Group 1 with Venli, Rlain, and maybe Navani? And from there it could be a journey into the Cognitive Realm in order to find The Sibling or something similar...hmm...that would also allow Kaladin to interact with Szeth and potentially Jasnah more, assuming both stay in Urithiru, and those dialogues would be fascinating...hmm...
-
We don't. Combine that query with with Kaladin's new position and we have a major upset in many of the traditional character groupings. In my opinion, that's very exciting to see. The traditionally theorized groupings may still happen of course, but this interlude still changes a lot.

Possible, but unlikely. In Chapter 53 of Oathbringer, Jochi, one of Jasnah's pen-pals wrote "And here I thought my news about a sighting of Axies the Collector was interesting." While this could refer to a different sighting of Axies, I honestly doubt it. When things happen in the past, characters like to either mention them or flash back to them in specific cases. Axies is mentioned in Lift's interlude in WoR, but it's clear that those events happened a while back. The sighting of Axies in Oathbringer is relatively recent; and given that The Way of Kings is only a year removed from Oathbringer at most, I'd say that the Axies interlude didn't take place years ago. Overall, I don't dismiss the idea of Interludes happening before Chapter 1, but I do doubt Syl's will do that. Sanderson has talked about how the book has a sort of Cold Open, and Lirin's chapter feeds straight into that. I'm not going to say whether or not the attack in Hearthstone was successful or not, but between that chapter and the interlude, Dalinar noticed something in Kaladin that made him switch the Windrunner out of active duty.
-
Aren't most? I'm a little confused by your question. Unless Brandon switches up where the Interludes go (which while not unimaginable, would be pretty jarring), Lirin's chapter happens before Syl's. In that context, what does "present" matter? Lirin's chapter is "present" when we are at Chapter 1, and Syl's is "present" during the interlude, wherever in the book that takes place. Interludes haven't been flashbacks yet, and again, while it's not unimaginable that some interludes could contain flashbacks, I doubt they will here. Or is there part of the question I'm missing. I feel like I'm jumping into conversation halfway through it lol.

Brandon Sanderson and Tamora Pierce Event
Use the Falchion replied to Clarity-Art's topic in Events and Signings
No problem! Notes are ALWAYS welcome, especially if there are particularly good nuggets in the video. And after the Dark One exclusive chat, one never knows if/when streams will be watchable after the fact. -
If I was to make a guess based off of this very limited information and my general love for crackpot/tinfoil theories, I'd wager that the foundational scene is Hoid telling a story to someone, and that creating a chain reaction that sets off the entire climax/parts of the climax. Maybe it's the Oathpact being reforged; maybe it's the mass Ideal-swearing of new Knights, be it Singer or human. I don't know. And then the epilogue is Hoid musing about what he did and how he lied to said character(s) to make it happen, and is now reaping the benefits in a way that makes us both scared for Hoid and scared of Hoid.
-
I've been saying this for years! An old-school Bioware styled Stormlight game would be great. In my head, it would take place during the final few Desolations (since they were only years apart, not generations or centuries), and the final scene would be the Heralds - people that you've respected, followed into battle, and overall come to know and love - proclaiming victory over the Voidbringers. And then there could be a post-credit scene/100% completion scene, in which you see the events of the Prelude, changing the context of the ENTIRE game.* *I'm torn about whether that should be included, or if that scene should be left for the prelude in the books. On one hand, that cliffhanger would make the books a MUST HAVE for fans of the game, and word about that ending would get out anyways, so why not include it? On the other hand, I like the idea of fans buying the books thinking they're just fun adventures in a world they've come to love, and realizing that the story they played was only the prelude to what's happening now.
-
So do Surgebinders and the Heralds clearly weren't the ONLY people who came over. But yeah, my idea was wrong - the Knights Radiant had not be officially founded, but the Nahel bond was discovered and used. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!
-
Just a random thought based on nothing, but would it have been possible for Nohadon to be the one to bind the Heralds to the Oathpact, as well as lead them out of Braize? Things sort of line up, right? He was a Surgebinder before the KR were formed, and it someone connected to Dalinar (probably via the Spiritual Realm).Him bringing humans to Roshar and/or helping forge the Oathpact does give Nohadon a weird place with the Knights as a whole outside of being a Knight himself or being a Radiant.

What's after Rhythm Of War for Brandon?
Use the Falchion replied to GriffinMaze's topic in General Brandon Discussion
A week on revisions for Songs of the Dead, Rysn novella (expect a title coming soon), Skyward 3, and then start January 1, 2021 with Wax & Wayne 4. After that he'll finish Skyward 4, and it should be time to start Stormlight 5. There will be another draft on The Apocalypse Guard as well. It'll probably take place either during Skyward 3 as a break or after Skywward 3 in the last weeks of 2020, if I was to make a guess. -
