But...why...?

The thread is dying, and that's not a bad thing. Most threads die eventually; hopefully we'll get news of a new FE game to become excited about. And go ahead, what's the category?

FATWS went there there, and I'm so glad they did. The more shows that address racial issues (including but not limited: profiling, blatant unfair treatment, experimentation, erasure from history, and criminal injustice), the better. FATWS is uniquely situated to do this as well, since taking on the mantle of Captain America means taking on the good with the bad...which means acknowledging the bad in the first place. I cannot wait to see how the show addresses this. -

So far, VERY good. The first episode was a slow-burn, not unlike the first three of WandaVision; but it does start out with a kick-butt action scene. The rest of the slow-burn is all character, and it's good. Six hours total is what I think the report is, so roughly 40-50 minutes per episode. Right now, I think waiting isn't a bad thing. FATWS is looking to be a more straightforward show than WandaVision...then again, we're only on the first episode. WandaVision was weird, but it didn't get plot-bendy until later episodes. So who knows! -

But it sound about right. What do y'all think? Is it true? If so, do y'all like the name?

Last year you mentioned that you were interested in writing some three-way supports for FE:3H characters. Where are they Fadran? WHERE ARE THEY? (My mock supports are lonely...)

It's been a minute since I've been a contrarian on this site, so it's time to stir up some trouble! Rant/Vent below. And please be aware that I'm not speaking about anyone on this forum. Y'all are far too kind, thoughtful, and intelligent for this sort of foolishness.- 202 replies

What are you playing right now?
Use the Falchion replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Last week I beat Mass Effect Andromeda. Much to my surprise, it was really enjoyable and it certainly whet my appetite for the Mass Effect Legendary Edition on May 14. Next on my list was Persona 5 Strikers, but I think I'll try to hold off on playing it until after Mass Effect. I have this weirdly impossible hope that a Fire Emblem 4 remake will be announced soon and will be released on the 25th anniversary of the original game's release...which also happens to be May 14. On that day I'd buy the aforementioned Fire Emblem remake, Mass Effect, Persona 5 Strikers, and XCOM 2 for good measure.* Since a remake hasn't been teased, leaked, or announced, I'm not going to count on it coming out.** But on May 14 I'll still buy Mass Effect, Persona 5 Strikers, and XCOM 2. (Maybe I'll add in New Pokémon Snap or Disgaea 4.) These three games should easily hold me until Rune Factory 5 comes out later this year, and the combination of all of those should hold me until Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl...assuming I pick it up. Horizon: Forbidden West is also on the docket, but I don't mind holding off on that until there are a few more PS5 exclusive/optimized games I want to pick up. *The playing order would be: Fire Emblem remake, Mass Effect Legendary Edition (M!Shep, Paragon, Tali Romance, Engineer/Sniper), XCOM, Mass Effect Legendary Edition (Fem!Shep, Paragon, Garrus Romance, Vanguard), Fire Emblem remake, finish my latest Persona 5 Vanilla NG+ run, and Persona 5 Strikers. From there I'd probably alternate any future ME playthroughs (at least one Miranda romance and one Thane romance) with Rune Factory 5 and any other game that comes out that I'll buy. **There have been dubious rumors at best, mostly by one person who isn't fully accurate with their predictions/leaks and as such should have their word taken with a giant grain of salt. And while yes, Nintendo and Intelligent Systems don't mind short windows between announcements and release dates as seen with Paper Mario: The Origami King, there still needs to be time to promote the game. Origami King had two months between its announcement (May 14) and its release (July 17). For that theoretical FE 4 remake to do the same, it'd need to be announced this upcoming week at the latest. What is more likely is that a remake will be announced either on the anniversary of the original game (March 29 for FE 6, May 14 for FE 4) or on the anniversary of the first game (April 20). From there it would most likely have a July release window like Three Houses did. Again, assuming there's a game to release this year, which isn't a guarantee at all. -

Glad you're enjoying it! I've had the first comic on my desk for a month, and I only opened it yesterday to skim half of it. Overall, I wish the High Republic success, but I can't find any motivation to try it or care about it. I'm ambivalent. What are some of the reasons you like it? What are some of your favorite aspects?- 81 replies

The new banner and conversations in Fire Emblem Heroes is now making Linhardt/Mirabilis popular, and I am here for it. Sure, I usually pair Linhardt with Lysithea, but I don't need to do that anymore. Oh, and Kaladin and Wanda totally need to join a support group together.

Does anyone still want a Moash redemption arc?
Use the Falchion replied to Elsecaller_17.5's topic in Stormlight Archive
I do! Not because I like Moash - I really don't. But I think that he's the type of person who needs a redemption arc the most...in the back half. -
I see what you're saying, but already included magic in the MCU though. Doctor Strange operates off of magic. And don't worry, in the comics, Wanda's powers are just as confusing.

Go for it! On Reddit people liken Hamilton to Kaladin, but I've always found it more appropriate to link with Dalinar. Besides, Highprince Dalinar Kholin has the same syllabic count as Alexander Hamilton! For other reasons why I think this would work better has to do with the songs: STORMLIGHT 1-3 SPOILERS BELOW So yeah, a lot of the songs work in my head. But the problem then becomes the characters. The whole Angelica-Hamilton-Eliza relationship is pretty easy to replicate Dalinar-Navani-Gavilar at first, but from there it falls apart. Dalinar does work like early Hamilton in their early lives in how insanely productive they were at their special skills. Heck, Sadeas would make for a decent Aaron Burr. But Eliza's role fits better with Dalinar's actual wife...which reinforces the fact that he's more like Hamilton than anyone else...maybe. Gavilar is even harder, since he'd be more like George Washington, but his and Dalinar's relationship are so different it'd feel weird in "Right Hand Man."
-
I'd be down with that. I could sort of see it (along with Cultivation's plans with Dalinar) being sort of "hedge your bets" situation. She if Dalinar failed, Cultivation would still have Kaladin as a back-up. If Kaladin failed, Dalinar would still be around and primed to put the pieces together. But now I'm curious about what that would mean to Kaladin, and how that'd play into his development.

Avatar’s on Netflix!!
Use the Falchion replied to Truthless of Shinovar's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Saw that as well! Good for them, but I'm not as sold as others. Korra ran really hot and cold for me, and while I don't stop others from watching it, it's not something I wholeheartedly recommend either. A big part of that for me was the writing, and since one of the main forces behind that writing prowess is helming TDP, I'm hesitant to dip my toe back in Avatar waters. There are also the comics. I don't think the ALTA ones are bad, but I can't say they're that good either. (The Search was a major letdown in so many ways.) But overall, good for A:TLA!- 179 replies

Treasure Planet is great! I'm a fan of that and Atlantis. Other underrated things...the Japanese rock band Band-Maid, if only because they deserve far more recognition than I feel they get in the west. They're a phenomenal band, and while Baby Metal is good (and also genre-breaking in the same way), I think Band-Maid probably deserves just as much if not more fame. They have a lot of songs that could define them, and I'm still working through the Discography, but right now, my favorites are: Domination (It sounds a little like Coldrain's Final Destination) Play Choose Me Different Page Liberal Mirage Blooming Catharsis Rinne ("Reincarnation") Giovanni H-G-K Sayonadori ("Nightingale") Black Hole About Us ...really just buy their two latest albums, CONQUEROR and Unseen World. And weirdly, maybe Utada Hikaru also? Sure, her works for Kingdom Hearts are ungodly popular and still hold up to this day, but her other works are great too! Her album Fantome is a really good (yet really tragic) showcase of her skill, and her latest album Hatsukoi has some phenomenal songs. Power Rangers, if that makes sense. Sure, every Millennial (probably most of Gen Z) knows about Power Rangers and may even have some nostalgia attached to the Mighty Morphin' run, but that's not entirely what I mean. Power Rangers RPM is easily one of the best iterations and one of the best sci-fi stories I've watched. It doesn't do anything new necessarily, as it's basically Mad Max meets Terminator set in a Power Rangers world. But it does things well, which can be even harder. Nearly all of the rangers feel important, the cast does a great job with the material, and the show itself is super meta. (They ask why the Zords look the way they do, there's a fight scene involving a baby in a stroller and the mother as props in the fight, jokes about the weddings of extremely wealthy people, and spandex.) Really, just check out the episode "Ranger Blue." It's one of the most meta in the show, and it's brilliant. But there's also a level of depth to each of the characters that isn't always present. Red is trying to prove himself to his father, Blue is desperately trying to be a hero in a world where justice is an abstract concept, Yellow is trying to forge herself into someone new, and Black is trying to find out who he was. RPM is a great show for any sci-fi narm-loving nerd, and I can't recommend it enough. (Sadly all but the first and two most current seasons of Power Rangers were taken off Netflix at the beginning of this month. The new season just started today, but I don't know how good it'll be.) And the comics! Boom! Studio's Power Rangers run has been phenomenal. It took me some convincing to get into, but I've been hooked ever since. It's the perfect blend of nostalgia, modernization, and improvement. The characters now have depth to them, and the story isn't limited to a 30 minute episodes format. It also gives us things we never really got to see in the show in later story arcs. ("Shattered Grid" is the big crossover even, but I'm actually a larger fan of "Beyond the Grid.") For fans of the OG run who are hankering for a bit of nostalgia that keeps the spirit but also improves on the story, this is the comic for you. (I like the 2017 Power Rangers movie too, but it works best when the Rangers aren't in costume. When they're acting like teenagers and bonding as such. Which makes it a good teen drama movie but a bad Power Rangers movie in a lot of ways.) For books, maybe Jay Kristoff's Lotus War trilogy? They're probably not his most well-written books, but I think it handles the YA love triangle in an...interesting? way, and the setting and world are great. I like the MC, and overall the story isn't perfect, but it's a fun ride. For Manga, I'd have to say Spy x Family. And I don't think that's even because it's underrated, but simply too new. https://www.viz.com/shonenjump/spy-x-family-chapter-1/chapter/19255?action=read

I had the idea of "Stillspace" earlier, since it fits the aesthetic of Nowhere, but it sounds better in one's head and when said out loud than written down.

Javik from Mass Effect 3 and Mat from WoT would be a weird yet oddly effective team...assuming someone could keep them in the same room long enough to throw a problem at them. Javik is the type of person to say one thing, do another in public, and then do a third in private. (Such as say how terrible humans are, then obey Shepard's orders without too much question, and then comfort another ally when things go poorly.) Mat on the other hand says one thing, thinks another, and does a third. He says what he feels, thinks about what he wants, and does what he perceives as good for the whole. Javik would hate Mat, and Mat would probably dislike Javik...but when push came to shove, they'd have each other's back, no questions asked. Other members of Shepard's crew like Garrus and Wrex would be fun drinking buddies for Mat, but he'd probably hate them on his side - they're too rebellious for Mat to fully trust with his plans in battle.
