Which means that the death rattle in question is probably in fact about Kaladin swearing his third oath.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I can also see each kingdom serving as a guardian of sorts, keeping knowledge from being lost during destinations. Alethela guarded martial knowledge. As the radiant in Dalinar's vision says, Makabakam (contained modern-day Azir) guarded their laws and bureaucracy. Thalath (contained modern-day Thaylenah) guarded trade/commerce (and sailing knowledge?) Not sure about the rest. I will add that the silver kingdoms didn't JUST do their specialty. I'm sure Thalath had soldiers and Alethela had laws. But each kingdom had a certain thing it was specially responsible for.

This is something my wife figured out (my wife is a Sanderfan, but not a forum person, so I'll post on her behalf ) The idea is that during the time of the Silver Kingdoms and the Radiants, the kingdoms are divided in such a way that each kingdom had its own specialization. Alethela (modern Alethkar) is the most obvious one Of course, we can see the effects of this even in modern Alethkar, with its unusual focus on warfare. But upon examining some of the other nations that used to be in the Silver Kingdoms, you find nations that have kind of a hyperfocus on a certain area. Azir has a hyperdeveloped bureaucracy, Thaylena's expertise is sailing and trade. So we think that all ten of the Silver Kingdoms each had some kind of specialization. Perhaps each kingdom was associated with a related Knights Radiant order as well. What do you guys think? Did the Silver Kingdoms all have their own specialties? If so, what do you think some of them are? I'd love to know what you guys think!

Odium: Do you release me? You must say it with Intent. Dalinar: Storms yes! Good riddance. ... crap, there's a catch, isn't there?
-
Odium being delayed a bit till book 6 doesn't sound like "another story" I feel like Brandon had something catastrophically climactic at the end of book five that will make the next five look very different. Maybe Odium (or Rayse) dies. Maybe something else. But I suspect the back five will be more than just a continuation of Radiants verses Odium.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
WhiteEmporer replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted. The nightwatcher reaches across the fictional cosmos to send the hero Batman into a murderous rage, causing him to finally end the life of his nemesis Bane. Also, in lieu of a bane, you get a white elephant boon You have been given the power of musical flatulance. This ability is instinctive, and is triggered often. Hope you like it! I wish for... for... I wish I could figure out what I should wish for. Then I wish for that. (yes it's two wishes, you can give me two banes if you want you stingy person) -
I'd love to think that he's teasing a real shard here, and not just messing with the fans. I had previously thought Insight (or something like it) could be a shard, but this might fill the role. Or perhaps Ingenuity has more with creativity and thinking of new things, and Insight is more about knowledge/awareness. In that case Insight would be a good candidate for the "survival shard." (note: there are no wobs or hints about Insight, it's just an idea of mine) Not sure where either of those would fit on a quadrant list, but I'm a tad skeptical of the quadrant idea anyways.

Where do you get your books and why?
WhiteEmporer replied to chandleroo1's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I prefer physical copies of my books. It's just nice to be able to hold a book in my hands and read it, and I haven't found any Cognitive copies of Brandon's books -
"You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum... shadow and flame" Collected Chach 1174, 12 seconds pre-death. Subject was an aged, retired historian of Azish descent. (Originally Saruman, in the movie The Fellowship of the Ring)

I understand that shardblades sever the soul, rather than inflicting physical harm. But why the effect of the burned-out eyes?

Kaladin in The Way of Kings: Teft: so...should we go save that Dalinar guy? Kaladin: ehhh...he's probably not that important. Let's just go be fugitives.

Are you a stick?

I agree that I can't just pick one favorite. I'd say that both Kaladin and Elend are very high on my list. Also Lift and Szeth. Lift is just fun, and Szeth is a fascinating and intense character who's journey has been really cool to see.

I am not entirely sure yet what I think of the "Dalinar unites Adonalsium" theory but I think it has a lot of merit. Dalinar already has definite ties to all three of the Shards on Roshar. On Odium's comment, "we killed you," here's a point that may be relevant. We know, for several reasons, that as Shards go, Odium is more adept at using Fortune (seeing into the future). We also know from Renarin's visions right before that the visible future changed when Dalinar refused Odium. I think if "we killed you" refers to Adonalsium, it is because in that moment, Odium was looking at not what Dalinar was, but what he could become.

Shard sports paraphernalia, which can change logos depending on which team is winning.

It's also possible that Bevadon is not an agent of Bavadin, but that it's a product of Bavadin's long (though subtle) influence on Scadrian culture. We don't know when Autonomy first began meddling on Scadrial, but if you look at Sazed's description of (pre-Lord Ruler) trelagianism in TFE with Autonomy's many aspects in one thing, it seems like the Shard has been around since before the Final Empire. Perhaps the name Bavadin made it's way into cultural use (changing slightly over time), [minor Stormlight spoiler] In this case it would simply be evidence that good ol' Bavvy has been messing with Scadrial for a VERY long time. But there's an even more disturbing possibility (cue scary music): Brandon just RAFO'd that question to mess with us, and it's not important at all

I think it might be more accurate to say that they are soft tissue, and can shape and transform it. That's why they can't make hard tissue or dead cells (hair and nails)

What would a unmade fabrial do

I figured it was farfetched, but since we were speculating, it was a pretty interesting idea.- 32 replies

What would a unmade fabrial do
WhiteEmporer replied to twenty second of the sun's topic in Stormlight Archive
Here's a thought: would it be possible to use Nerghaul in a diminishing Fabrial? Would you get a fabrial that takes away people's will to fight?- 32 replies

I think there is something to it. I even think I have seen a wob alluding to this, but I'm not sure if I could find it.

Theory: Unity was killed by Honor and Odium
WhiteEmporer replied to ginger_reckoning's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree. It didn't quite convince me, but it was well thought out and I hadn't heard it before, which is hard to do on the Shard.- 33 replies

Eh, as I said, at this point it's only a plausible crackpot theory.

I thought it might be that you become the standard of law, and are above the laws of others. But Nale almost always follows other people's rules. No, as I think about it I think it might be that a person has given themselves over so wholly to the law, following and enforcing it, that all other wants, hopes, and passions die away. You become the embodiment of the rules. You BECOME law. It doesn't exactly sound good, but the radiant ideals might not all be good. And it does describe Nale very well. But on the subject of 5th oaths, I think in light of the 5th Skybreaker ideal, it probably is something that raises someone to the highest or most developed version of that order's focus (as in law for skybreakers).

The shattering could very well have left a core, a remnant of the being Adonalsium was when he was whole. Or not, of course. At this point, it's only a plausible crackpot theory.
