  1. How near is near? 10 degrees or 30 degrees? Or whatever? That indeed was my train of thought. I concur.
  2. That kind of replaces problems. Why are Progession and Illumination affected to different degrees?
  3. Then why does Navani say that he cannot do Illumination? Why does he have two Surges but only one Void? Reasonable. But what are his powers?
  4. Suppose you store a Breath in a Nicrosil mind. Subsequently you compound it. Do you get 10 Breaths 1 Superbreath
  5. You have a habit of implying hard questions. Did Sazed or Rashek alter axial tilt? The Final Empire had seasons, but far from the equator it does not take much of a shift and they were generally mild..
  6. No. People have lived with shell fragments or bullets lodged in their bodies for decades. The number of ear rings worn at any time may be in the billions. They do not rearrange organs, in this case their brain. Though, yes, we will have to add some people to the list. Zane would count. A chimera has one spike. Chimeras would have to count as constructs. I would say the definition is a change of physiology beyond what is possible in the recipient species. Well, but how can anything that hemalurgy does not be how the magic works?
  7. A change of your organism due to hemalurgy. Normal humans suffering a piece of metal rammed through their head die.
  8. A Shard basically means brain damage. You are no longer free in your actions. It grants, however, immortality and immense magical powers. Yet dragons already have immortalty and considerable powers. A Shard is less attractive to a dragon due to a simple rational analysis of costs and benefits.
  9. They have an interactive component. People also have seen into the SR. The experience has not been like the visions. Also during the visions the viewer's cognition is altered. You learn languages for instance. Furthermore the spatial distance to the recipient matters. For a purely spiritual phenomenon it should not matter. On the third hand you can abuse those visions as a telephone system, which is kind of cognitive. Dalinar's visions exists as a page. And I guess nobody objects to a page dedicated to those visions. Yet this is not enough. The Invested Arts of the Cosmere can make you see things that are not there. And that is not in the sense that a TV can do that. That applies only to Rosharan Lightweavers for sure, as far as we know. The phenomenon is mental. Te best examples are from allomancy. So do you want a subsection for such phenomena with each Invested Art, or do you do a comprehensive page? The problem with a comprehensive page is to find criteria to decide what would need to go there.
  10. Hi, yes I know it is early, but the blurb text is already a major spoiler. So in the interest of people who do not want to be spoilered, why not open a separate forum now? It will have to be done eventually anyway, so drawbacks are small.
  11. We know that the Dawnchant as a language comes from the Singers. But what about the script? Is it a derivate of an Ashynite script or were the Singers literate at that time?
  12. Tanavast's recorded monologues are hardly from spiritual realm, are they? Well, we are running into conjectures that way. Apparently the Stormfather can share his perception of the land his storm crosses over. Yet, the assumption that he does so by the same mechanism he uses to transmit the visions Honor recorded is strictly speaking conjecture. In fact we have no proof that Dalinar got all the visions. The Stormfather may very well have orders to tailor the selection of visions to the recipient.
  13. To me this WoB looks like there is a division here, like you need to look at the source and the mechanism of the visions differently. The source is indicated to be primarily spiritual and the method independent of that. Right. And arguably that pages is misnamed, if you want to add the mechanics there. I am afraid there are mechanics unique to at least the Stormfather's visions that need to go somewhere, like the manipulation of time, the extent they are interactive and the languages they temporarilly teach. You could add these aspects to Dalinar's visions, but I am afraid you'd get an article that mixes two distinct topics.
  14. What an excisor is where atium will be produced who Trell is
  15. Veil was technicaly a Lightweaving. If Shallan drops that, it will turn into residual Stormlight.
  16. The problem here is that this conflates consciousness with identity. We are reasonably sure that conciousness exists (if only in the sense an illusion exists), but identity may just be basically an invented fiction. True, but inconclusive. He may just have been hit hard on the head in a metaphysical sense.
  17. Hoid is thousands of years old. There is nothing lasting for him in any case. And they both know it. Yet most of mankind for a long time practiced marriage - or pair bonding if you will - for reasons other than romanticism. And that generally worked. Neither of the two members involved is strictly speaking fully human, not even Jasnah. She has a telepathic connection to a fully sapient alien. And neither of them was a 21st century Westerner before that. What sacrifice? And with Jasnah thinking that she is unaware of the whole advantages and disadvantages of an action and does something for one particular reason only is a bit, well, naive.
  18. The notion that marriages or relationships have to involve love is a modern, western attitude. Neither Jasnah or Hoid share it. Reproduction. How much Jasnah knows about Hoid's magic is unclear, but she is clever. She may very well know how one becomes, what Hoid is among other things.
  19. She does not trust him, though. You are overlooking her sense of duty. She will do what her duties demand; romanticism is playing no part in that.
  20. I am afraid you are approaching this fundamentally wrong. These new fabrials change distances, not forces or energy. In al this discussions please remember that moving an object does not take energy or force. Acceleration does.
  21. A man who calmly forbids any attempt to save his person is fearful?
  22. We know of other worldhoppers who are thousands of years old. And of Elantrians and people of Fifth Heightening. If that were Kelsier's problem he'd just buy Breaths.
  23. That does not answer the question on where the fuel comes from. In addition to a spren bond you need Stormlight. The Fused do not. No Selish magic does. Aviars seem to be similar to those. That is they are on a direct but limited power supply. It looks like you can overstress your Aviar and it will need to recuperate. That is not possible with Awakenung or Lifesense.
  24. It seems to allow telepathy. What else is transfered? Does Sylphrena get drunk with Kaladin? Or, worst case, the Stormfather? To which extent are sensations transfered? Do spren get sensations they are not classically subject to? What does Sylphrena feel when Kaladin really needs a toilet right now?
  25. Well, you have to be able to perform according to the prior oaths to get there. Secondly the fifth oath is surprisingly vague. The interpretation that becoming the law allows you to arbitrarily alter the rules is not obvious. It may also mean that you have to abstract and internalize the principles the law is based upon and use them always, regardless of omissions in the law.
