They trained for their mission. They knew that they would have to communicate with the newly awakened Singers in current languages. So they were running classes I presume. They certainly do have forces left on Roshar to monitor developments.

But what happens if you add pewter wires? Nothing? That woud be the consequence. -

So what happens if you use only pewter? Nothing? A basic level of activity? -
Squirehood and the organization of the Windrunners
Oltux72 replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Obviously that is possible. Yet it means that the Knights Radiant, who are pressed for man power, needlessly lower the number of Surgebinders they have. Why? -
As a purely practicl matter, how do you remove Kaladin from field command? Aren't you grounding his squires? In Oathbringer Rock started healing only after the transfer through the Oathgate, although Teft had sworn the third oath and was with him very closely. How does squirehood work for Windrunners?

I'm about to start crying in public.

Such as deciding that the 4th oath is wrong and rejecting it? -
Yes, but we do not know what happened before that. The range of scenarios that could arise from a small child with Surgebinding abilities under Unmade influence are wide and some of them are pretty horrible. Kind of the Excorcist on steroids.

Well we can list the known fabrials and find metals for them: diminisher - tin augmenters - pewter alerters - bronze We can expect attractors and repellers to use steel and iron. It fits too neatly. The problem is determining what zinc and brass actually do. If you want your fabrial to act more strongly why not more of the correct material? Is that a binary thing? -
Well, if her family really was messed up due to an Unmade, the question of what attracted that Unmade arises. The easiest answer would be Shallan. If that is true, then she did indirectly wipe out her family by accident but not in self defense..

Well, here we have the core of the matter. Human? That is his central conflict. What we have missing here is that Kaladin keeps rejecting the fourth oath. Incidentally Bridge Four <-> fourth oath. Intended symbolism? Kaladin the soldier started dieing when he fraternised with liberated Singers. This view is missing the central conundrum of Oathbringer. Others saw it. Nale and Szeth both found a resolution. Kaladin keeps refusing. Going home pales compared to that.

You're acribing to Hoid an altruistic goal he does not have. He wants to trap Odium. Having a Surgebinder who will go to irrational lengths to protect everybody is quite likely an asset to him.

Which powers does Yelig-Nar grant? Amaram's final battle has a few oddities in particular with respect to Plate. He burst his first boot, usd Cohesion, then burst his second boot and used Abrasion. That raises two questions. Why didn't he just fall onto his face? It was his very first time using Abrasion. Lift hasn't mastered it after weeks. You armor up from the boots. We are told that that is not optional. He lost them both. Why does he not collapse? Yet he does not heal a broken jaw. Yelig-Nar does not grant the power the Fused have. Does he grant something akin to (Scadrial)

Why would she? She proposed wings precisely because she wanted lift. This shows that she does not understand how the Surge of Gravitation works, not that she is ignorant about lift.

Actually, it looks like allomancy is the wierd art, not fabrials. The pushing material strengthens, the pulling material weakens, as makes perfect sense. If you consider the human body as the equivalent of the spren in allomancy, it does make sense for pewter to make the user stronger in allomancy. Allomantic tin is the strange sustance that needs to be explained. Our having learned so much about allomancy before learning about fabrials is clouding our thought.

No. She is his Blade. He does not remember the forgotten, as in Blades in general. He honors and comforts his friend. Again, his brother. Stoneward, if anything.

A Rosharan week is five days. They just gave two weeks. Likely a usual amount of time to be given in such situations. Sylphrena had a bounty on her head. The Knights Radiant likely have no idea whether this has changed.

No, killing them deprives the enemy of Blades and efficient Surgebinders.

No. He lacks the haughty nature of many Lighteyes of high dahn towards the poor and lower classes, but he also lacks the notion of aiding them or feeding the poor or that grim realism Lift displays. He is merely fair. His calling is one of self-improvement and competition and treating his men well and fairly and of leadership. Edgedancers is not his thing. Dustbringer, Elsecaller, Stoneward, Windrunner, Skybreaker rather than Edgedancer. He is a fighter and a killer, not a helper or defender. Dustbringer seems closest to what he is.

I think we should not consider the Sibling refered to as female on grounds of plausibilty Hence we know for sure neutral and have one reference that is singular and another that is ambiguous on number. Even in English the Sibling as a word is singular. Entirely consistent with the Polish version. Again, female just makes no sense. German makes no gender differences in the plural, so we get no information on gender, but we get an unambiguous plural. Combining both languages we get: singular/neutral plural/neutral Now, isn't confusion about number exactly what you would expect for a hive mind? We get around this in the case of the Sleepless because its parts are unambiguously animals. Yet there is no logical requirement for the parts of a hive mind not also being intelligent beings. Probably the translator did not realize that this was a reference to a proper name and was forced to find an alternative for a word usually not used in the singular in German, assuming that the recording referred to an individual's sibling.

Well, that need not be true on Scadrial. Scadrial is practising some kind of industrial aristocracy with the rich making the laws that suit them. There is a way to make new titles, but basically houses that were already wealthy under the Final Empire (Tekiel) still running things indicates a lower level of social mobility.

They may not, yet the other Fused will care about bad air support and report it.

Now we are going to places I really had not expected. But, OK, in this case Polish grammar is on topic. I love grammar. Could you comment on that? I would have expected: Zostawcie go w spokoju!
-
No, this won't do. In that case the number could not have been 16% of every group. For this to be possible a far higher number of Skaa would have needed to be allomancers.

The automobiles and the gasoline they use are not really that much an issue. That is our modern prejudice speaking. Diesel himself made engines running on peanut oil. That is just a question of cost. Coal is the major issue. Elendel has millions of inhabitants. Apparently their best guess is around 8 million. Hence the base itself must have tens of millions of inhabitants. You are not going to make all the coal they use out of wood. They are heating their houses. They are running railways on the stuff and smelting enough steel to build tall buildings. That is mined coal. So what else did the Shards put into the ground?
-
Elendel has coal plants, coal fired locomotives and cars running on gasoline. Either Harmony or Leras and Ati have been thinking ahead and created coal beds and oil reservoirs when they created and/or remade Scadrial. But to which lengths did they go? Does Scadrial have fossils? If not, can they ever hope to come up with a theory of evolution? What will that do to the sciences of biology and geology on Scadrial?
