Long Game 65: Dancing through Life
Furamirionind replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Oh, you're right... Well in that case, there still is a bit of an issue where few people are discussing game-related material, and votes have had no point the past 2 turns, so there is very little info. That being said, I did reread Sart/HH's posts to try to figure out why they were killed. HH seems to have been a low information kill. He was also a noble, so that was also probably another thing to his detriment. At the end of T1.1, he had only made 2 RP posts. Sart on the other hand was encouraging focus on the elims, and playing this game more or less like a normal elim game. The elims this game are/have probably been quick to try to make this feel like a FFA game, which it sort of does feel like, as we are all competing against each other for abilities. I also felt like an elim would want to distract from the fact that Sart's death was premeditated. DeTess started saying things like this, but then did acknowledge that Sart was attempting to progress the game. Lopen also said something similar, where he Acknowledged that Sart had made these votes yet thought the kill was random none-the-less. Bard just said he thought the kill was random. Of these 3 people, I'm inclined to think that DeTess is village at the moment. Leaving Bard and Lopen. Bard has made 2 game related posts. Both of which are predominately NAI. Lopen has made quite a few posts. I believe he originated the idea of spreading out votes, which primarily benefits the elims. The main issue I have with voting him on this though, is that no one wants to die in this game. So playing this game as if it is not an elim game, is not necessarily something a villager wouldn't do. Lopen also was discussing the very strange idea of the HH kill being a WGG... Something which would make more sense for an elim going into Naming to do in my opinion. Again, I'm conflicted on saying this is AI at all though because the ruleset of this game encourages talking regardless of the topic... So it would make sense for someone to jump on a topic and draw it out, regardless to what that would normally mean about the player. Lastly, Lopen keeps putting off voting, each time they make a game related post. Again, this isn't necessarily AI as there is very little content spread out between 25 players and lots of RP, making it very difficult for a villager to make a good vote. However, this is also traditionally a sign of an elim. These things all being said, my conclusion is game analysis isn't fun... Lol Why Not? Lumgol Lopen Lopen Edit: This is normally the point in a game where I'd PM Lopen before posting to try and get more info, but with only 2/3 posts in thread, I can't guarantee I could PM like normal either.- 951 replies

I'm going to vote on Lumgol. Just the one vote. I'm with Araris that we should stop spreading the votes around, though minutes before the end of the cycle is pretty late to do that. That being said, I wouldn't hold it against Araris. Seems like a village thing to me, in this game at least. I'll go into detail next turn.- 951 replies

Long Game 65: Dancing through Life
Furamirionind replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The lie detector ability in linguistics, In my opinion, is best used as gimmicky/fun way of gaining info, but not directly to find elims. Personally, I'd be interested in looking at what some people say about what fields they are, or are not, going into. On the other hand, it only says if someone lied across the entire turn, so someone attempting to break the game could be fairly easily offset by thread activity. As much as I want/need to get in more/longer posts, I haven't been getting any sleep these past couple nights, and I barely stayed awake enough to type this out... So I think I'm just going to let myself go to sleep, and see if I can make some of this up next cycle.- 951 replies

Long Game 65: Dancing through Life
Furamirionind replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hmm, that's interesting Xino. Honestly though, I'm not sure what to post at the moment. I'm not feeling my RP right now, and despite the rules being so complicated, I'm really not sure what can be expanded upon. I don't want to crowd the thread with meaningless analysis about things either already discussed or unimportant topics. Player analysis is going to hard this game, as by the very nature of the ruleset, it encourages quantity of content and not quality. I'm not going to have the time to sift through the amount of posts people have already made. I don't want to feel like I'm playing on MU again xD I mean, the Archives are probably the best in finding the elims, and they don't seem like they would be very helpful to elims, so I doubt they would pursue that powerset. Artificary also doesn't seem super useful for the elims, however if there is an Edema among them, as players aren't allowed to transfer money, Artificary would probably be a good option as it provides ways to get money, and stealing money from players will be a good way for elims to try and slow others down. Alchemy looks like a really good field for elims to go into. All of the items help the elims, with the Tenaculum and Bone-tar both being particularly helpful as offensive abilities. And I just hit 200 words, so I guess I'll stop talking.- 951 replies

Well, I didn't play either of the past iterations of this game. However, Sympathy received a pretty significant rework for this iteration of the rules, as, if I remember correctly, not many players chose to go into sympathy in previous games as it had a much higher risk. The mommets do seem pretty powerful, though I suppose I should ask @little wilson @Elbereth Can anyone use a mommet, or must the person be trained in sympathy?- 951 replies

Long Game 65: Dancing through Life
Furamirionind replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Lyoan turned her back as her troupe left her. They didn't understand her desire - no, need - to attend the University, but she did. They offered what support they could. A couple talents, a lute and her wits were all she had left. Especially after those disappointing admissions she went through. Sure, she had been told that a 2 talent 6 jot 3 drab tuition was impressive, but it didn't feel that way when, at this rate, she wouldn't be able to pay for tuition next term without living on the streets. She shuddered, for the first time realizing how cold it was. Hearing music coming out of a nearby building, she took off in that direction. She heard a musician playing a piano that sounded a bit off. But they moved around it quite well. Changing the chords to not hit the keys that sounded dull. It was quite impressive work. She looked around, she didn't belong here. This place was far above what she could afford... But maybe she could stay a little longer and listen. She closed her eyes, and started her studies. Edit: Lol, I'm a couple words short of 200, but I have class now xD- 951 replies

Long Game 65: Dancing through Life
Furamirionind replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Oh, well if my math is right, 34 posts per turn, or an average of 0.94 posts per hour is doable, though as someone who tends to post a lot anyways, I dont believe I can do that every cycle. Maybe for the first 1 or 2 until I can work out another source of income. I just also have a lot of schoolwork. And as a heavy poster myself, if I'm going to struggle, I personally dont think many others are going to be doing better. That's true. It is a "traditional" elim/village game. Meaning that analysis of the various fields are going to be important. Since we are sort of talking about money right now (and this let's me post a different post talking about the fields in detail), the fields ranked in monetary abilities, I'd say are: Arithmatics, Artificary, Sympathy (far behind), Alchemy (far behind Sympathy), all the others. Naming of course should be mentioned as well, though as a high risk/high reward field with very little known, it is difficult to rank. It's probably both the best and the worst in every aspect. Due to this, I personally cant imagine any Edema Ruh going into a field other than those 5. Of these, Artificary, I think, is the best at dealing with elims, possibly making this the best field in the game. If I had to guess, I'd say most people struggling for money will try to level up at least once in Artificary. Due to this, it might make sense for the more wealthy among us to spend time going into fields that others dont have the oportunity to go into, like Linguistics and Logic, which I personally think are the most fun fields. Also, this no double posting thing is going to be a real pain. lol.- 951 replies

Long Game 65: Dancing through Life
Furamirionind replied to Elbereth's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I will absolutely be voting on someone with at least my first vote, also being Edema Ruh. However unless I'm specifically suspicious of someone, I will probably be exclusively voting based on RP. This is because from a Ruh's perspective, I think if I was playing this game optimally, it would involve going after the Nobles as much as possible to narrow the power gap. Just to look at the money of the different roles, Vintish Nobleman: with a 30 talent stipend and +33% tuition cost, they can afford to spend 13 talents on tuition, 12 talents on the Horse and Four, and still have 5 talents left over for what they like. This is on top of the 20 they start with. Aturan Nobleman: with a 20 talent Stipend, they can afford the full price of admission (10 talents) as well as either stay in the Golden Pony (9 talents) netting 1 talent/turn, or staying at the Windy Tower (6 talents) netting 4 talents/turn. While the golden pony has its moments where it's good, I think everyone who can will be staying in the Windy Tower, as I think it is objectively the best lodging location. With the Horse and Four close behind. Yillish Commoner: with a bit over a 11 talent stipend, they can still pay full price for tuition, though will be severely hurt for doing so. Cealdish Commoner: with *almost* a 10 talent stipend, they cant pay full tuition. However this will likely serve more as an activity requirement. If worse comes to worse and they forget to post for a cycle, they should be able to hunker down in the Mews. Edema Ruh: with a bit over a 5.5 talent stipend, I havent worked out how to stay in the university yet. Personally I'll be moving to Mews as there is no way I can survive spending almost all my money on lodging. With Mews that leaves 4.67 talents meaning we need at least a 5.33 talent reduction to just attend the university a single term. There is essentially a free 1.95 reduction for posting, voting, impressing a master, and PMing. This means we only need a 3.38 reduction beyond that coming from RP and posts. This would total at 68 posts mixed between RP and analysis with each being at least 200 words. I'm not sure anyone short of Aman could do this, so I'm going to hazard a guess all Edema Ruh are either going to be taking time not going to the university, or are going to be relying heavily on the noblemen placing black market contracts... or on Devi. Anyways, due to this, I highly encourage people to first, not try to play optimally. I'm Edema Ruh, and I accept I'm at a disadvantage. Instead of trying to bring others down to my level, I'm going to try to roll with what I was given and have fun, and I wouldnt say no to a wealthy sponsor... just saying... xD Oh, while I said I'm going to be voting based on RP, if you arent my sponsor, just because you are rich doesnt mean I wont vote on you ; ) Since I'm on mobile, I am not sure how much I've typed, but I think it's enough to get a 0.55 reduction, so I'm going to post now. I asked this question before the game started in thread. Only the first vote counts, but as we vote every turn, and it counts each turn, the reduction is essentially 6 jots. For each tuition. But now we have an IKYK. Personally, I wouldnt reccomend doing this, though its definitely a good option. I just happen to think there are other ways for people to spend their money immediately as well Edit: it's worth noting I didnt factor in the talent pipes. I'm sure all the Ruh will be trying for them, as it's essentially a free chance at having decent money this game with the tuition reduction. However, as not everyone will be getting pipes, it should be assumed for tuition calculations we assume we dont get them. I'm going to wait to RP for a little bit, as there is a good chance I'm going to have to rethink my character as I dont think being Ruh will allow me to do what I wanted in the university.- 951 replies

Sorry for the double post. Well, we didn't put an official deadline on when the vote ends, however there are 3 days until we need to have confirmed our representative to Mafia Universe, so it might be good to close up the poll pretty soon. So if anyone hasn't voted yet, please do that ASAP. Edit: Ah, I missed there was a plan to close the poll on the 25th. So yeah, vote now if you haven't yet.- 636 replies

Yeah, if you think you're up for this being your first game, we'd love to have you! If you ever have any questions about the game as well, feel free to ask. My first game was also an incredibly complicated game, and I only got through it by asking the GMs lots of questions about how the game (was supposed to) work. Also feel free to ask players anything, though don't expect them always to answer truthfully. : P

Well, there have been no more nominations in almost 10 days, so I think it might be good if the people who have been nominated could confirm whether or not they would be able to attend. The first game will happen for 2 weeks sometime between April and June. They also try to work with everyone to find the weeks that work best for you. If you move on, the wildcard games will be July, and they will try to hold the finale game in august, but scheduling stuff tends to delay it from what I've seen. The people that have been nominated so far are: (in no particular order) @Fifth Scholar, @Araris Valerian, @STINK, @Elbereth, @StrikerEZ, @Kynedath, @Elkanah, and @DeTess- 636 replies

Yeah I think so. A quick word on the championship: The atmosphere on MU is incredibly different from here. Here we focus on having fun, but in the championship, you'll find more people focus on winning. Different people come in with different meta as well, so some are convinced the best way to play is to be super passive and not do much of anything, and some will think the meta is to essentially insult everyone into giving up if they are Mafia or not. despite this it's a lot of fun, and it really helped me improve as a player, but it is a very difficult and stressful 2+ weeks. If anyone has any questions, concerns, or otherwise about potentially representing us, Myself, @DeTess, @Amanuensis, and @Haelbarde have all played in previous seasons. (oh, and quick word of advice, if you are Mafia, make sure you change the mafia-chat background screen to be something different than the public thread. Don't want to pull a Roro. xD ) Hmm... I've been gone a while so idk exactly who to nominate. I'm also not 100% sure who is around right now and who is busy. I think I'm going to start with nominating Fifth Scholar (@Fifth Scholar). An excellent player who I have looked up to since my first betrayal of him. I also am confident he could mentally support the stress, which I personally think is one of the most important factors in picking a representative. He also has a unique playstyle that would be fun to watch. I know historically you have been super busy. Has your schedule cleared up at all with everything going on? =) Link to my game if anyone wants to look over what it's like.- 636 replies

mafia championship A Knock from Outside the Cosmere
Furamirionind replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A message from @Lissa2 about the Mafia Championship: INVITATION TO THE MAFIA CHAMPIONSHIP (SEASON 7) Ahoy there! I’m very excited to invite your community to participate in Season 7 of the Mafia Championship. The Mafia Championship is an annual forum-based tournament series that pits representatives from various online Mafia (aka Werewolf) communities against one another as they compete to determine the Internet’s greatest forum Mafia player. Each participating community democratically elects one person to represent them and be their “Champion”. The tournament first started back in 2013. Since then, 320+ different communities and 50+ different nationalities have been represented. It’s a super fun event that has created many new friendships and close bonds between communities. I hope that you would be interested in taking part 1. DO YOU ACCEPT THE INVITATION? If your community wishes to participate, please confirm your participation to Lissa as soon as you can to ensure yourselves a spot. Currently, the plan is to accommodate 150 communities this season. If there is further interest, additional communities may sign up as substitutes; generally there are some replacements needed both before and during games. If your community agrees to participate, the deadline for selecting your representative is April 27, but the sooner the better. The games will take place on Mafia Universe. If it’s okay, I can link directly to the general discussion thread regarding this topic on Mafia Universe. Important notes You may decide yourselves how you want to elect your representative, but we highly recommend some sort of democratic process (public nominations followed by a poll usually works out well). In addition to electing a representative, you should also name an alternate who will be asked to step in if the first choice needs to back out. Your representative should be prepared for having to read upwards of 500-600 posts per 24 hours during the early stages of the game. Additionally, there’s a requirement that each player must make at least 10 posts per Game Day. Only active players should apply/participate. I repeat: Your chosen player needs to be able to promise a good amount of activity on a daily basis. 2. SEASON 7 FORMAT The tournament structure 150 communities will participate, each sending one representative. QUALIFIERS: 10 Qualifier Games will be played, consisting of 15 players each. I.e. every representative plays in one Qualifier Game. The players themselves vote post-game to determine who is deserving of advancement. 1st and 2nd place will advance to the Semifinal Games. SEMIFINALS: A Jury consisting of finalists from Season 6 will select 25 additional players to advance to the three Semifinal Games. From each game, five players will advance to the Finale Game based on a post-game player vote, just like in the qualifying phase. THE FINALE: The Finale Game is played. Once it has completed, the players vote to determine who shall receive the title of Season 7 Champion and a winner’s certificate signed by Dmitry Davidoff, the creator of mafia. This year’s setup: JOAT^2 The setup is called JOAT^2 and features 15 players. The setup consists of the following: 3x Mafia Goon 2x Town Jack Of All Trades (9x Doctor, 9x Motion Detector, 9x Tracker) 10x Vanilla Townie Note that the Jacks Of All Trades must use all three actions before repeating an action, i.e. they are rotating. This does not mean they must use the actions in the same order every time. Relevant mechanics info - Day start. - Majority lynch is enabled Day 2+, but majority is not required at any point in order to lynch. - Tied votes will result in a player being lynched at random from among the tied players. - No outside communication. I.e. you may not contact the other players outside of the thread (unless you are Mafia and wish to speak with your teammates). - Phase Lengths and Deadlines will be up to the players themselves (I’ll organize your representative into a game with deadlines that suit their preferences). - Thread is locked during Night Phases. - Votes are automatically locked in at LYLO. - Mafia factional kills are assigned. They can be tracked, watched, roleblocked, etc. (In this setup, that means they display as an action to the Tracker and the Motion Detector actions.) - Mafia share a factional Night Kill, which is a single standard shot for their faction. The mafia faction kill is mandatory. - Mafia may communicate at any time. - Each individual player may make a maximum of 150 posts per day phase (this restriction is lifted 2 hours before day end). - The game will have a host to oversee everything and make sure everyone’s following the code of conduct, but otherwise the game is completely automated (automatic votecounts, thread locks and reveals roles automatically, the bot receives and processes actions, etc.). 3. SEASON 7 TIMELINE There will be 10 Qualifier Games, and your representative plays in just one of these. They will have start dates ranging from late April to mid-June. So in other words, as long as your representative can play sometime during that period, they should be good and I’ll make sure they get scheduled into a game that suits their schedule well. I.e. if your rep is busy until June, that isn’t a problem. The Semifinal Games will be played in July, and the Finale Game sometime in August/September (whenever we can work out something that suits everyone). If you want to get in contact with me ASAP, you can find me on Discord (Lissa#8083). Kind regards, Lissa- 636 replies

Mid-Range Game 39: For Science
Furamirionind replied to BrightnessRadiant's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hey everyone, I know I'm late.... Sorry... As anyone who has talked to me about my personal life knows (or who has read my profile's status updates), I'm basically too busy to physically exist... so... Yeah fun times. The village won? Awesome! Wait... was I village or elim this game... Oh... This game. Cool. I'm remembering parts of this... I really thought the elims were going to win when I left. I didn't see a link to the dead doc. My bad if one was already posted: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gjfXpidsIvNSWo9WSTlxMGTC3cVT2tBLoeRw5KtcJz0/edit?usp=sharing (Also, I apparently changed the doc to share only? I didn't know I could do that as I don't own the doc? Lol) This was a great game and lots of fun. Life is life, and is always more important than games. I hope your doing better, and best wishes headed your way. If I can help with anything let me know. I don't know. I would have pushed hard to kill Striker, but I was fairly neutral on you IIRC. You could definitely have convinced me to target someone else... Once Sart died, most of the suspicion on you was shown to be purely coincidental so... I hate it when that happens as an elim. It sucks, but it did throw a huge wrench in the game. xD Was definitely funny from my perspective. Still, life happens. Honestly it's been too long for me to remember exactly. I think I was saying that your distancing was too "good" rather than too much? From my perspective in the dead doc, it looked like you were inadvertently setting Elkanah up to die. I don't remember if this was before the cycle he was outed or not though. Might have been just a faulty perspective thing. I don't have the time to dig through and analyse. About the team thing, there are many ways to analyse a game of mafia. One, and I think the most common way, is to look at individual people and analyse if their motivations seem good or not. This is useful in the early-mid game when there isn't a ton of info. Another way to analyse is to look at people's interactions, and determine if they could be on compatible teams. For instance, if I defend Devotary from a lynch, you could say we are compatible teammates. If I create and drive a push to get Devotary lynched, we are (for the purpose of this exercise) incompatible teammates. This style is IMO most useful mid game and very late game when you have a lot of info, and need to start organizing it. Basically, for this game, I assumed a team of 3, one of which was Sart. So we can rule out people incompatible with Sart. Next we look for pairings of people compatible with each other, while still both being compatible with Sart. The only people You weren't compatible with were CadCom and myself, where most other people were compatible with only 1-3 other people. Hopefully that makes sense?- 338 replies

Perhaps... Let's see how long we have first: 15 players, presumably 3, gives us a 12-3 with 3 villagers, 1 elim dead. C3: 9-2 (-mislynch, -kill) C4: 7-2 (-mislynch, -kill) C5: 5-2 (-mislynch, -kill) C6: 3-2 (MyLo) So we have 2 mislynches after today... I'm fine with taking the chance on Devotary then. Devotary, if you are a villager, I'm really sorry.- 338 replies

Regardless, no one came forward to confirm he actually did that. While you are correct that elims wont always be online to save each other, Devotary has been in the lead for the lynch for over 55 hours now. As of that post, the vote count was: Striker(1): Twibanu Devotary(2): Elandera, Venture The next vote was in this post (I think): Here CadCom votes on Joe. This takes momentum away from the Devotary lynch. Haven't done an ISO yet, but a Devotary/CadCom team wouldn't be outlandish... This post happened ~3 hours after Venture's vote. The votecount now was Devotary(2): Elandera, Venture Striker(1): Twibanu Joe(1): CadCom The next vote after CadCom's was by Joe here: This vote happened ~24 hours after Venture or 21 hours after CadCom. This is a full day (no matter where you live) where you can see that all targets have lost momentum, and you have an opportunity to swing the lynch to your favor. Joe votes on Devotary, putting her up by two. Joe and Devotary are obviously not teammates. It is at this point where elims would likely hop on the elim!Devotary lynch... Let's look at who did that... Lemelon, Elkanah (sort of), Kidpen, Striker (after subtly defending Devotary) So... I don't necisarily have an issue with Devotary being the lynch target, however, I think Striker has a significantly higher chance of being an elim. Perhaps both Striker and Devotary are elims, and they were hoping a villager would come to their defense. I think it would be wierd if they are both villagers, but that's technically possible too... Anyways, sorry, I'm getting off track. My point is, there was lots of time with little to no momentum on the Devotary lynch where she was only up by one, and still no one really tried to shift the lynch... With the exception of CadCom, but I do think he is village right now. If Devotary flips evil, I'll reconsider.- 338 replies

I have actually been pushing for the lynch of at least one of Striker/Devotary, with a preference towards Striker. My only problem with Devotary being an elim, is that each elim you lose, the game gets exponentially harder. It is really hard to win as an only elim as when actions are trackable (as most are this game) you have to choose between killing or having an alibi. I don't think there will be more than 3 elims, and Devotary has been sitting at 3-4 votes in the lead for a long time with everyone just sitting back and watching. I know people are distracted with... Other... SE stuff right now, but I don't think an elim!Devotary would just let herself get lynched without putting up some kind of fight. I have to be careful with these pushes, as I have made this same argument in now all three cycles, however, I think I'm pretty safe on this one, as the vote has, again, been pretty decisive all cycle. Also, when we got close to when we thought rollover would be, some people should have realized I wasn't going to fight for Devotary and spoken up. Also, I have been trying for the past hour to actually ISO people, and I just cant focus on it right now. I'm going to have to come back to it later and see if I can focus then.- 338 replies

Mid-Range Game 39: For Science
Furamirionind replied to BrightnessRadiant's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thanks for the vote count. According to Elkanah, the vote count is now: Striker(1): Twibanu, Devotary(6): Elandera, Venture, Joe, Lemon, Kidpen, Striker Umm, interesting... Analysis to come, but I would still advocate switching to Striker instead. The fact that both Striker and Elandera voted for Devotary has me on edge. Granted, I have no idea why elim!Striker voted for her.- 338 replies

I want to point out that Stick was killed almost certainly because of that list. We need to be careful when revealing that much info. Edit: MR35 Joe was an elim and less active than this game iirc. Regardless, I dont think he is an elim. Organized player analysis to come hopefully within 12 bours. Off the top of my head, I think the remaining elims are 2 of Striker, Elkanah, and Devotary. Still need to do the analysis though.- 338 replies
