  1. "There is a village where tears fall and falls tear. In this village, blood is more common than water and enemies more than friends. Tyrian Falls, it was named. There was a night, dark, as most nights are, when the drunken old war veteran looked toward the approaching koloss army. Not that he could see them, mind you, but he had heard they were coming. Everyone knew it. Grayv just stared and drank and prepared himself for the storm that was coming. In Dyring's Inn, the town crier Quinn drank miserably--" Marll was cut off by a pounding on the door. A cobbler's work is never done. Always another pair of feet to tend, he grumbled to himself. He apologized to the nice pair of boots he was working on and promised them that he'd finish the story later. Beetle, a local urchin child looked excited, frazzled, and scared beyond browning his trousers all at the same time. It was those eyes. Those wild eyes. Marll would've sworn that the boy had been a murderer in a past life. He talked about Bartholomew's body almost adoringly. Strange, strange child. Marll knew he had to go see for himself. Not out of any perverse desire like this Beetle, but because the town only had one cobbler and everyone needed a good pair of shoes and someone to look to when the nights got darker. He'd throw the dice on getting involved here and hope he landed a pair of the Lord Ruler's sixes. If not, those boots might never hear the rest of the Tragedy of Tyrian Falls. Sign me up as Marll, a gambling cobbler with a story to tell! He almost feels like he's heard this tale before, but the town's name was reversed... It's been way too long! This game is simple enough and my semester was lighter than expected, so Maill is back for a game! Looking forward to it, Kas!
  2. I’m not around much anymore and this was the first game I’ve followed at all in probably a year, so take this with a grain of salt. I think the main problem here is to do with role distribution. There used to be a healthy fear of making assumptions about the distribution and using that to fuel your reads. For example, in the first game I GMd, there were 4(?) Spanreeds which were the PM creation item. One of those did belong to the elims, but they never used it because pretty quickly the thread decided that a Spanreed was a likely item/role that I would’ve given to the Elims. So they went through and executed every spanreed holder they could find. And they were all village. Because of instances like that (and Meta’s infamous distributions), people didn’t try to solve the game based on roles the same way as often. This game was clearly solvable that way and may be a mechanical problem as already addressed by both GMs. Aside from that, I think it’s possible that the meta for GMs has become a predictable way of distributing roles. Again, I’m not speaking from experience here, I’m pretty behind on SE meta. The second problem is what I see in this thread specifically. I’ve seen a lot about being bored or complacent or not having fun because you didn’t have many abilities to use that affected the game. Maybe that’s a side effect of this game having so many roles that do impact the game to a great degree. But, my philosophy—and I attribute a lot of this to the SE Father Metacognition, is that every player, regardless of role, has a big part to play in the game. In fact, vanilla players can have some of the biggest impact because they can play in a way that isn’t going to cost the village an important ability if they do die. It allows them to get in front of the prominent abilities and take fire and do the investigative work without worrying. They are the ones who can piece together the elim team and don’t have to worry about having tunnel vision based solely off scans they receive. Survival, for instance since I was the original Survival, has so many options to make the game fun regardless of win con. The extra lives allow them to play as risky as they want and to insert themselves into the game in whatever fashion they desire. Anyways, random thoughts I had. Tl;dr: Vanillas are important too! Don’t rely on distribution to solve the game/maybe GMs should take this into consideration when distributing. Maybe I’ll see you all one day soon in a game.
  3. Nope. I only spectacled this game. I’m Postt in the dead/spec doc. Because mail is the post, get it? And then the double letter at the end.
  4. Favorite character or two? Best scene from a cosmere book?
  5. I mean I was pretty dang certain I was right. I was just a touch off but gave myself enough wiggle room that it worked. The logic behind what I said was legit though and what I was actually working off of.
  6. Well I died early on, but it’s probably a good thing since I ran out of spare time even sooner than I thought I would. Thanks Fifth and El for luring me back for this! @StrikerEZ Thanks for the PM, it was one of two I had I think. I appreciated getting you to roleclaim so quickly @Lumgol Sorry for lynching you... but not sorry at the same time. I’m sure you understand @Elkanah Hey there! I didn’t know you were back on the forums, but I’m glad we got to RP as gamblers for that first day.
  7. I’m still busy and next week/end will be even busier with midterms, but I can’t believe that Kas and Hael are GMing and I can’t play. Have fun!
  8. Fura basically took what I said in the dead doc here. Add what Striker said about confusing people and you basically have it. When I’m a Smoker, I almost always Smoke myself so people don’t mess with my vote. I voted where I wanted to, I don’t want them to mess it up.
  9. Ah, now I understand. That was an unfortunate one for the village. I'm not sure if Striker used an actual coin or not.
  10. Sorry, what coin flip are you referring to? I'm also confused how there'd be 5 against Stick.
  11. Thanks, @StrikerEZ, for allowing me to help with such a fun game! As was mentioned in the spec/dead doc, this game was mostly classic mechanics, but still was very close and set some new standards. It was a memorable one for sure, in my opinion. Most of my thoughts are in the doc, but to share with those who don't like reading through 100+ pages(shoutout to Fura and Drake for making one of the longest and most interesting dead docs in a long time), I'll share some of those thoughts again. First, a huge congratulations to the rebels! Stick and Aman did fantastic at distancing and pocketing their own various villagers. Aman proved once again that he has a tongue of gold and deserves his reputation. Those who know me know that I always root for the elims, so I was very happy with this ending. On the other hand, we had some very fun village maneuvers too. I want to award @Aonar the Village MVP award for singlehandedly (well, with Straw's help for Aman, shoutout to Straw for the first roleblock of the game) taking out two of the elims. Drake/Mrake showed again with his fantastic analysis why he's a formidable threat to the elims. Fifth, a man after my own heart, had gambits galore this game that helped gather lots of great information. Ventyl, it was great to see a new player jump right in and dig into the game; we have a steep learning curve here, but you did fantastic piecing things together and by the end were so close to solving it! Everyone else also had great discussion and it was so much fun to keep up with the thread and PMs. When it comes to distribution, those of you who have heard me talk recently have heard my soapbox about this, but this game gave me a bit of a chance to use my opinion. We intentionally messed with the distribution to diminish the usefulness of role distribution analysis as the sole basis for suspicions. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about the distribution. And, be grateful this was Striker's game and not mine. I had even crazier ideas than what we ended up going with. The decision to end at this point came because, mechanically, the elims had won at this point. Between us and Alv, we decided that mechanically there's no way for the village to win, so it should end here. It's ultimately unrealistic to factor in activity levels to the decision of if a game ends when it's technically met its win condition. Again, thanks to all who played and made this game such a fun one to watch!
  12. What Alv said. That’s funny that you did too. Yeah, I was going to play hard to win. The games are about fun, but they aren’t fun if you just let everyone win. The challenge is the fun. For me, what was going to be most fun was to avoid becoming a zombie. So, that’s what I did. Thanks Alv!
  13. Not much to explain. I sent an action to spy on the house and I got an immediate result that I saw the curtains move and a shotgun pointed towards the group.
  14. Careful with the farmhouse. I spied on it and got an instant result that a man is pointing a shotgun towards us.
  15. Just a heads up, because this is a QF and I’m also helping with the LG, I don’t want to promise my normal levels of activity in thread. Please do PM if you want to talk about the game though. Sounds like Lum has the fire taken care of, so I’ll leave her to that.
  16. I'm going to be chopping down branches to distribute to you all to use as weapons.
  17. Manny approves of Gustavus hacking at the zombies after Li shoots them. Manny isn’t getting anywhere near close enough to chop at them thoguh.
  18. He meant that you hadn't yet made 2 posts this cycle. @Young Bard Is the only player in danger of dying from the filter today.
