  1. I didn't hear the question wellbut the answer was along the lines that he foreshadowed the method for Szeth's resurrection in book 1. I took this to be a reference to Dalinar's vision where he was healed by a fabrial. Again, just nailing down the essence of what he said, it was about how he tries to be consistent with what he does, even if he has to bend the rules a bit. The example was how speed bubbles dont cause redshift and iradiate everyone. He came up with a reason why this doesn't happen and is consistent with it. Also, he errs on the side of awesome. With this one he basically said RAFO but that we would definitely see how KR progression varies between orders and even individuals within the same order.
  2. You're forgetting something, though. He already knew the world was in danger. That's why he went for the Old Magic in the first place. Gavilar was having visions and had involved Mr. T in what he saw. We have to assume they gathered as much information as they could even before the Day of Brilliance, which could have very well given him the information to deduce what was coming.
  3. Seems I misunderstood your question. I thought you were asking why Khriss didn't notice the mixing of powers earlier (on Roshar). But rereading your OP I see that you mean why didn't she notice the effects happening in Era 1 if someone was a full Mistborn or Feruchemist. Was it Khriss who wrote the AA for Era 1? Probably, since we know she was in the area at the time... So, maybe she wasn't able to study Mistobrn and Keepers closely enough to notice any effects if they did exist. And it's likely that those effects would have been even more subtle than the Twinborn effects, again assuming they existed in the first place. And I think that the reason effects are more pronounced on Roshar is that Surgebinders have a lot of Investiture flowing through them.
  4. Actually, she specifically says in the BoM AA that Roshar is another example of powers mixing.
  5. Pushing and pulling metals has nothing to do with magnetism. You can manipulate even non-magnetic metals this way. And shardplate would resist the investiture of the pushes and pulls.
  6. Going back to the original question... Shardplate as we know it now vs. bullets I think the advantage goes to the bullets. However, the primary theory regarding Shardplate is that it is made of spren. This means that Shardplate will probably adapt as the technology on Roshar progresses. If Roshar ever develops guns or projectile fabrial weapons, I see Shardplate evolving to handle the new styles of combat and warfare. And if we're talking Shardplate vs Scadrian guns, we're still a way from FTL. So Roshar still has some time to catch up technologically. Also, regarding the atium rabit trail this thread took earlier... I think Brandon was aware of Atium's potential to be way OP in the cosmere. Remember that investiture resists influence by other investiture. So I think shardplate and other forms of investiture can block atium shadows.
  7. Preservation told Kelsier that they died, but did not die or something like that, so that to me is a big hint that they were part of the Reod.
  8. I like this, however some of what you seem to propose as fact is really just speculation. This mostly comes out where you differentiate Investiture from the Powers of Creation, which I believe are different ways of referring to the same thing. Also, even if The Powers of Creation are different, we don't know that these Powers predate the 3 Realms, which you your entry for Adonalsium implies is a known fact. The same entry also states that Adonalsium is the mind the Powers developed, which is also not a known fact at this time.
  9. I see Investiture and The Powers of Creation as being the same thing. They seem like synonymous ways to refer to the same thing. Everything is made up up Investiture, and it also grants the ability to transform things or create various effects. Investiture is what Adonalsium used to create the Cosmere, and shards are made up of massive amounts of Investiture, so they are literally pieces of the powers of creation.
  10. I don't think just anyone on Roshar with some stormlight could enter Shadesmar. You have to have the right surges. It's not a matter of stormlight being stronger than breaths. Each power works differently. Some powers let you push on metals. Some powers let you make illusions. Some powers let you enter the Cognitive Realm without a perpendicularity.
  11. I wonder if Kaladin could attach a reverse (or other) lashing to Syl and have that lashing move with her, the same way Shallan attaches illusions to Pattern... That could be very useful...
  12. In the original version, before it was retconned, he used the Pits. But when Brandon was writing Secret History he realized that the Pits were destroyed by Kelsier, so he couldn't have used them for his Worldhopping. So after the retcon, Hoid was never actually looking for the Well, since that's how he got to Scadrial.
  13. I believe there is a WoB out there somewhere that it is indeed a case of native puns being translated into English puns.
  14. Vin was only to take in the mists when she didn't have her hemalurgic earring in. Unless we have WoB saying otherwise, it had nothing to do with wanting to be preserved. Although it does seem Preservation was grooming her from a young age, AND her ability to take in the mists improved after she became attuned by becoming a Sliver at the Well. So Connection does seem to be involved there.
  15. A few people have gotten answers on Twitter and Reddit outside of AMAs/scheduled chats.
  16. But if he has strong enough Connection to be a Mistborn, he SHOULD have strong enough connection to hold the Shard. To my way of thinking, anyway. But this means that using a magic system does not involve much of a Connection to the Shard. So storing/tapping Connection should have no or little effect on your ability to use other magic systems.
  17. I'm pretty sure we've seen aluminum bullets shot into time bubbles.
  18. So here's something that I thought was weird. Kelsier is an Allomancer. Not just any Allomancer, but a full Mistborn. Allomancy is the power of Preservation. And yet, Kelsier isn't Connected enough to Preservation to hold the Shard without a hack. How? Why? Why not? One would assume that being a user of a magic system would involve a Connection to that Shard. This also throws a wrench into a couple of theories: The theory that Hoid is collecting investiture from all the Shards to gain Connection to the next Adonalsium; and the theory that Connection medallions could allow people to access magic systems from around the Cosmere.
  19. Meta means self referential. In other words, if that comment was meta, it could be referring to the publishing order of the books. Meta is when a video game character says "Push x to swing your sword" or "Check you stats to see if you can wear this armor". Meta would be if Brandon really did write himself into the books as Hoid or Adonalsium. Meta is that guy on House of Cards breaking the 4th wall and speaking to the audience.
  20. Yeah, it's doubtful that Hoid has experienced all of those 300 years.
  21. Not crushing my beliefs. I like to play devils advocate and say "what if". You're probably right that Straff would try to use this against El.
  22. The same reason he kept his own mistresses around. He could have just added her to his own harem, and if she did have a child by Elend it could possibly be an allomancer and he could add him/her to his secret army.
  23. Is it possible that Straff was lying when he told Elend that that girl he was bullied into having sex with was killed? Could Straff have taken her and hid her along with his own mistresses? Is there any possibility that she gave birth to Elend's child? The plot thickens. It's more likely that Doug is descended from another branch of the family, though.
