2017-11-18 [Oathbringer] Murder By The Book - Houston, TX
Pagerunner replied to Pagerunner's topic in Events and Signings
I'm bringing a recorder, if you want to keep your phone on you. Not that there's anything wrong with two devices going at once in different locations... All it means is, of someone starts yelling next to one, then the other one should still be able to pick up Brandon. -
I don't believe the image on the bottom is depicting worldhopping through a perpendicularity. The midair gateway is much more reminiscent to me of when we saw Jasnah escape from Shadesmar at the end of WoR, so I think it's depicting an Elsecaller using the Surge of Transportation. Either that, or Wheel of Time really is Cosmere.
-
I'm pretty sure it's been discussed somewhere in here. Sorry I won't be able to link you to a more specific post - there's a lot going on in that thread! Also of note is that the larger glyphs share the same components as the Radiant Order glyphs, but it's as if the whole symbol was stretched out in a weird way. We don't have any good ideas as to why these parallels are so strong yet, but it may mean that Voidbinders could appear much like Surgebinders.
-
We wish. Unfortunately, this is like Brandon's wiki: for Team Sanderson only. Who knows - maybe once the Cosmere is finished, decades down the line, they'll find some way to package and release it. But I doubt that will be any time soon.

No, at this time Oathbringer spoilers are not allowed outside the subforum at all. Shallan's read hair does indeed come from the Listener's, but you're right in that it wouldn't be enough to distinguish her from her brothers. I think there is still much of Shallan's experience that she has yet to confront that have made her into a Radiant. You're right that there's something off in the timeline - if Shallan had a Shardblade before killing her mother, then what was it that caused her to break in the first place?

[OB] Reviving the Spren without the Radiant
Pagerunner replied to TheOneKEA's topic in Stormlight Archive
The scenes that were read at conventions do count as released chapters of Oathbringer, and are fair game for discussion without spoiler tags in this board. -
It can be found here. The main characters didn't actually interpret the mural correctly.
-
Agree that it is not the Oilsworn drawing of Ishar, for the reasons you suggested and because the piece is only several hundred years old in-universe. The blue disc mural displays shocking similarities to one found in Elantris, with many key details (floating in air, arms outstretched) the same between the two. That one was a depiction of worldhopping; I think this one is, as well.

So, looks like we all get to be right. There was an Unmade in Urithiru, but the copycat killer was technically a Midnight Essence, not a spren. (I had thought it was a Midnight Essence analogue, but apparently what we had seen in the WoK flashback was an Axehound Essence.) Man, I really want to get that mural, with the ten kinds of spren and depictions of Honor and Cultivation. But I fear that, for an illustration, we'll get Lyn's map, instead. Not that there's anything wrong with that... but I would much rather have the mural! Re-Shephir illustrates that not all nine of the Unmade are indeed intelligent; this one is getting there, but it's still mostly a force. It does feel, it does think somewhat, but it's a very primal drive that has only reached its current level after thousands of years. It is very much an animal of a spren. Why did it try to bond Shallan? Tear Pattern out, insert itself instead? What would that have created? A Voidbinder? Or is that analogous to how Hemalurgic creations can be controlled, and Re-Shephir was trying to use the cracks in Shallan's soul, which had been augmented by Pattern's bond, to take control over her? Some chronology questions. The Radiants used Urithiru after the Last Desolation. When did Re-Shephir move in? Was it a recent? Or has she been there ever since the Radiants left? She was captured - who released her, and how? I hope they'll continue their pursuit of her... there are a lot of questions, now that we've actually seen an Unmade on-screen. What do we think Gemstone Central is for? Is it a central hub for Urithiru's power? Once they get it Infused, will all the other fabrials in Urithiru start working again? Looking forward to next week. I guess we'll get a Dalinar chapter where he speaks with Fen in a dream, and a Kaladin chapter where they finally reach the Voidbringer gathering, and we'll learn something very shocking about the nature of the Listeners...

The link above looks like it was to the general site for the NLS, not to the specific entry for the book. I can still find that entry on the website, but it requires a password to actually access the audio file. This recording was commissioned specifically by the NLS for those who have vision problems, to allow them free access to this book. It has never been available for public consumption, and the NLS is almost certainly not allowed to share this recording with those who do not have a disability that would prevent them from reading the book. The eligibility requirements to receive NLS materials like this recording are quite strict, so I'd encourage you to not waste your time seeking it out.

A very interesting idea, but one that has unfortunately already been debunked by WoB: Source

All events have had a thread with the transcription edited into the first post. So, I'd say go through the Events and Signings subforum, looking for threads posted since the last time you were up to speed.

We've been discussing it over in General, since we don't even know if it's Cosmere or not. Topic Closed.

Here we are: the finish line. I've completed my review of all of Brandon's TWG posts. I decided not to review Peter's at this time; the one thing I knew I wanted to find was the Dragonsteel excerpt that Peter had posted there once, but it was part of the recently released chapters, so I don't feel the need to dig for it anymore. That closes out the last thing I wanted to review of Brandon's social media; I haven't gotten it all into Arcanum yet (the new WoB Archive, in case any of you haven't heard), but I plan on getting it in before release. You'll be able to see everything I found from looking at the Blog, TWG, and old Twitter events, come November 8th. But that's still a week and a half away, which means today, I'll start with one of my new WoBs, instead of putting it at the end. This is a bit of workshopping Brandon did for an Elantris sequel name: That's the opening post, but there's quite a bit more discussion of it in this old TWG thead. This gives you a hint of what the fandom was like back in the day before Brandon was published. Pretty jealous, aren't you? Closing Thoughts I think this was a very valuable project, both for me personally (I learned a bunch of old WoBs, and managed to get myself onto the Arcanum team) and for the community (especially since I was able to get all the old Reddit stuff out a couple of months back). Definitely glad I did it. As far as the actual database I created... Arcanum is explicitly not a database. It works mainly on its search engine, with tags designed primarily to support that. I still feel pretty strongly that a relational database, with properly applied tag intersections, is something that would close a lot of gaps and help with both casual research and focused searches. I'm not able to work directly with Arcanum... but I can actually tweak my existing Microsoft Access structure to use Arcanum event numbers and entry numbers, and then tinker on my own with some of the areas I think Arcanum can be improved on. Stuff like superseded WoBs, excluding writing advice, sorting by series, curated lists... I've got a whole bunch of ideas I think would be neat. It wouldn't be terribly practical, since I wouldn't have any of the actual WoB text there, but I think it would be a fun project to keep on the back burner. And an excuse to go through all the Arcanum WoBs and transcriptions, which would be fun to do anyways. If I ever get anything serious rolling with that, I might reopen this blog. But for now, my WoB Database is officially closed. Hope you enjoyed the ride.

The latest Way of Kings annotations have an interesting bit on Syl's unpublished history as a cosmere character: I think she was from Climb the Sky. Mainly because there's no sign of Syl in our other major unpublished works (Aether of Night, Mythwalker, Dragonsteel, or any of the Mistborn primes), but she does fit quite well into the what little we know of this book. I think Syl was an embodiment of our titular Aether of Wind, and that Brandon repurposed the bonding mechanism of Aether into the spren (which is a similarity that many have noted, especially with the Liar of Partinel sample chapters). This fits with what we saw in Liar, as well, with the sentience of the Duskr Aethers, something that had been vaguely hinted at in Aether of Night, as well.

Mystery Project in Sanderson's Status Bar
Pagerunner replied to Exalted's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Brandon in July: "I've got my next two years of writing planned out for five non-Stormlight books, and then focused on Stormlight after that to close out the first half of the series." Brandon in October, after finishing literally one book of his previous plan: "I decided to do a mystery project I've never talked about before." By the way, Brandon recently said the mystery project is not Dark One. My bet is on the Threnody novel, since that's one he's been talking about more and more over the past year or so, but it's been in the works for a long time. My impression is that Brandon has been getting excited about this book. -
Moved to Oathbringer spoilers. Do you mean the black sphere? It wasn't in a necklace, as far as I can recall. What it holds is still a mystery, although there are two major schools of thought (an Unmade, and Odium's Stormlight analogue) that are in pretty vicious competition.

The Greater Power of the Knights Radiant
Pagerunner replied to Blightsong's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've written up a similar idea over here. There is a cultural idea in Alethkar of the 'shades of the Lost Radiants,' and a number of things that I saw as parallels between Vorin religion and the Knights Radiant to indicate their mission does not end in the afterlife. I did stay away from Death Rattles for the most part, since I haven't taken the time to do an in-depth analysis of all of them. But if the 'speakers' of Death Rattles are on Braize (like Taln's "burdens of nine" quote), then there is one that is undoubtedly from the POV of a Radiant, which could indicate that there are former Radiants on Braize: -
The WoB Archive, Arcanum, is Here November 8th
Pagerunner replied to Chaos's topic in Arcanum Discussion
There will not, unfortunately. You may need to go down the even list, open each one up, and scan real quick to see if it looks familiar. You could compare the Theoryland event list to Arcanum's, but the former has some events with 0 entries, so you'll still be missing stuff. The vast majority of new WoBs are from Reddit (which you'll basically be up-to-date on if you saw my spreadsheet), and the events that occurred this year (which have all had transcriptions already posted in the Events and Signings forum). Weiry might be able to provide a list of old events that are only in Arcanum, but the only ones I know off the top of my head are AU Seattle and a White Sand release event. -
They're the same symbols from different time periods and locations. The third set (from Hero of Ages) is the earliest, from before the Ascension, I believe. The second set (from Well of Ascension) is from later, but still before the beginning of the books. The symbols in Final Empire are from the time period of the original trilogy. And then the symbols in Alloy are from that time period, as well.

Is that the neural network to generate WoBs? -

We'll be making a thread soon to upload hidden camera recordings you've taken of Brandon around town in Utah. You can never be sure when he's gonna drop a surprise WoB, and we've gotta be ready. (Brandon stopped at an auto shop. What sort of new cosmere mechanics is he coming up with?)- 86 replies

Good quote from Chapter 4. I'd forgotten about that one. -
OB Spoilers are not allowed outside this subforum at all at this time. Post it in here.

Mystery Projects on Current Projects tsb
Pagerunner replied to Thude's topic in General Brandon Discussion
We've actually been discussing it already over here. Lots of ideas... if we throw enough at the wall, eventually something will stick.
