  1. I'll buy that there's going to be a romantic sub-plot, I just don't think Tozbek's comment was intentional foreshadowing on Brandon's part.
  2. Huh, I'd forgotten that about the mists. Do we even know why the mists don't cross thresholds? Could indeed be related.
  3. Gonna guess that stone somehow prevents natural passage of stormlight, and this is something to do with why the Shin revere it. Obviously surgebinders can still infuse stone, as we've witnessed with Szeth and Kaladin in tWoK.
  4. I don't think it's even implying anything; I think it's just Tozbek being poetically flattering.
  5. Interesting question. What happens if you get hit with the flat of a Shardblade? I assume the hammer would be the same. The edge of the blade is obviously the dangerous part, as it's the only protected part of the blade when training. Curious to see how people interpret this.
  6. Or perhaps Jasnah (and possibly the Ardents, assuming the fabrials work the same way) are just better at convincing the objects to change. Jasnah in particular I imagine is very persuasive.
  7. Actually it denies Hoid SWAPPED the blades. Important distinction. I have a feeling he doesn't have it though.
  8. I'm pretty sure the Shardworlds are in different star systems unless otherwise noted.
  9. I think it's intended less as 'power level' and more as 'awesome level' Worldbringers are clearly more awesome that Wyrn.
  10. *Sniff* I was almost a Shard... so close...
  11. So we're looking at Soothing or Rioting; I'm guessing Soothing from what I remember of the scene. Or some other weird esoteric alloy we've never seen. Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 387973120 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 447097136 bytes) in Unknown on line 0
  12. The opening goes into even more detail, explaining how Vasher's perceptions change as his Breath is used then reclaimed to animate the straw doll, and further when he claims the Breath from the prisoner (whose name I forget).
  13. Hm. Perhaps you can use Stormlight to Awaken, the reclaim the light?
  14. You mean like how Shardblades DON'T cut physical living things? They don't cut an arm unless the arm is aready soul-severed. They don't cut Chasmfiend carapace unless the Chasmfiend is dead (or at least that part of it is). Wonder why they cut through stone/other inanimate objects immediately. It's not even a matter of sentience (unless rockbuds are sentient), but a matter of living things. Wonder how life is defined, Realmatically? I mean, if all things exist in all three Realms, is there a certain threshold of Spirit or Cognition at which point you're considered 'alive'? Sorry if I'm going over old ground, just musing
  15. They've been discussed before also. You'll have to forgive me for not knowing where the thread is though.
  16. Hasn't there been some speculation that a Forger using Aons as a base (instead of MaiPon) would be able to use Forgery in Arelon? I think Brandon might have declined to answer while hinting that the idea was 'interesting'. I could be misremembering though.
  17. Thanks for that, hadn't seen that thread. Upvoted the OP who got that info. See, this is what happens when I go away for... jeez, how long WAS it? About 8 months? That's a LOT of signing info I'm not up to date on :/ I foresee a lot of time on Theoryland in my future...
  18. Late to this party... I'd put Bondsmiths as order 10. Adhesion and Tension just scream Bondsmith to me. As for those looking for Dalinar's defining traits - Pious and Guiding seem pretty good to me. He upholds the Codes, setting an example to the other Alethi. He reminds them all of the Vengeance Pact. He literally leads them to Urithiru. He still believes in God, despite knowing the Almighty is dead (he simply changes his beliefs to encompass a different idea of God). I'm surprised by Renarin though - I too had him pegged for Brave/Obedient (seeing as how he threw himself HEADFIRST off a building with no hesitation when Zahel told him to). Alas, if we're to obey a strict reading of the Ars Arcanum and accepted interpretation, that would make him a Dustbringer (which he isn't). So he comes in as order 5 (Learned/Giving). I'm willing to accept that the Orders may not correlate to the chart directly, but that seems unlikely given how well the chart matches Heralds to symbols otherwise.
  19. Oh, wow. Ok, that's... thrown me for a loop there no idea who wrote it then. I'm going to suggest it may be someone from one of the unpublished Shardworlds.
  20. Hoid almost certainly wrote the Ars Arcana. WoR Ars Acanum spoiler (very minor)
  21. Didn't want to make a new thread as this one already exists (even though it is old now). Appears in the pop-up when I mouse over a user's name. IE 11, windows 8.1 The following comes up every time I use the quote function - it actually appears in the reply box (but I can delete it before posting)
  22. I would imagine Hemalurgy severely wounds the soul. I don't remember if there's any precedent as to whether or not this can be healed. Wasn't there a quote somewhere about what burning the mists did to Vin (specifically at the end of HoA when she ascends)? Something about is making furrows or troughs in her spritweb? Can't imagine Hemalurgy wouldn't do some serious damage. I agree that the amount of forethought in Realmatics is amazing. I suspect though, that most of the work was done by actually creating the underlying system of Realmatics, and by sticking to a very logical and consistent approach he's able to make it appear as though he's considered every possible interaction of every magic system (when in reality I doubt anyone would have gone so far).
  23. Welcome! I think Mistborn is easily my favourite series (although Stormlight is closing the gap!) What other Cosmere stuff have you read so far?
