It is in fact possible to regrow limbs, as long as you haven't internalised the damage. Wayne even mentions that regrowing fingers is a pain. As for surviving beheading, I'd always imagined that he was healing so quickly the two halves never actually separated.
-
Healing is linked to perception. It's why Sazed couldn't grow his genitalia back - he's internalised the damage and sees himself as a eunuch. Similarly, it's probably really hard to fool your own sense of how old you are. For those of you talking about cell degeneration and telomeres, remember that we're talking in terms of Realmatics, where gravity is a spiritual link between objects - real world science need not always apply!

So, I'm soon to be delving into running a campaign using the Mistborn Adventure Game and Alloy of Law supplement (woo!) and I'm hoping to occasionally drop in little bits of High Imperial, but I'm awful at trying to create phrases in the lingo - anyone with the flair for it, and who can spare the time, I'd love it if you could translate necessary phrases for me as they come up As for the plot of the game - very loose details so far, but I'm going to be setting it a few months after the events of Alloy of Law - as a result, some spoilers for Alloy follow. So I've got the big plot, figured out, but will still need some smaller week-by-week stories to fill things out (and deflect from/lead into the larger plot). Any assistance with plot ideas and/or High Imperial greatly appreciated Edit: Forgot to add, obviously character creation will lead into some story ideas naturally, and that has yet to happen, but I'm still open to generic plot ideas that can be worked in (possibly even worked into someone's personal plot if it happens to align).

Hoid helped to deliver weapons to Elantris. We don't know how active his role there was, but I assume that without him the events at the end of the book may well have gone differently. Additionally, it's a plausible idea that he may have been investigating AonDor and how to unlock it for use elsewhere.

In one of the books (or perhaps the annotations - I think it was Mistborn?) it was actually stated that the Shards on that world created life patterned after life from their homeworlds. The Shardholders themselves WERE (are?) human themselves, they aren't inherently divine. They were humans present at the Shattering, and each received some of Adonalsium (which could be called God)'s power. Adonalsium may or may not have 'created lift in its own image' - we don't really know what Adonalsium WAS still. But the Shards - they created life patterned after the life forms they knew.

A Dissertation to End all Dissertations
Senor Feesh replied to Iredomi's topic in General Brandon Discussion
If you're focusing on religion, don't leave Mistborn out! Obviously you have all the religions in Sazed's copperminds, but also the Steel Ministry and the religion surrounding the Lord Ruler. There may also be some debate as to whether the could be considered a religion. -
Further support for the 'twisted branch' being a Dakhor monk bone - it's described in Elantris in a very similar fashion. I'll try and drop the quote and chapter reference in later.

Ok, more to come, might even start a new thread for some things when I can get it all straight in my head, but I'm happy that Galladon wasn't 17th Shard prior to the events of Elantris (sections near the end of the book from his PoV make that pretty clear). More thoughts regarding AonDor and its relationship to Elantris: Elantris is a power amplifer for AonDor. Presumably then, AonDor must have existed prior to Elantris. When Raoden fixes AonDor (but before he fixes Elantris) the Aons are weak - was this how they worked prior to Elantris being built? Gut says yes. Dilaf's wife - why did missing out one of the fundamental lines cause her to undergo transformation? All the incomplete Aons Raoden draws (sans Chasm line) simply fade out and do nothing. Two possibilities I can think of. 1) It's specifically tied to healing. I think that's unlikely though. 2) It's because Elantris was amplifying the throughput, allowing the Dor to push through an 'incomplete' filter. I also have some questions regarding the Shaod and the Reod. Why did the Chasm opening cause the Shaod to stop working properly? Why did it START working again because Elantris was fixed? My guess is that pre-Elantris, there was AonDor, but not Elantrians. Something about the construction of Elantris (which supercharges AonDor within Arelon) causes the Shaod to have the super-transformative effect that it does on the human body. Perhaps prior to the construction of Elantris, the Shaod simply gave basic access to the Dor, like the weak-form Aons that Roaden uses afrer figuring out the Chasm problem. That would mean that Elantris actually powers a super-Shaod, which because it was broken by not having the Chasm line caused the partial transformation. As always, if there is contradictory WoB, please let me know and I'll revise. Still hunting for that elusive Cosmere clue that's supposed to be buried in Elantris somewhere.

Just reached the passage where he talks about his dad. Seems he was always unhappy in Elantris, but it was because he missed his homeland (and later because of the death of his wife). Galladon doesn't give any hint as to why he would have been studying Fjordell geography sadly. I still think region-hacking is a likely motive, but why Fjordell and not Duladel?

parallels between Vasher's Apparel and the Mistcloak: spoilerish
Senor Feesh replied to SpiteMalice's topic in Warbreaker
Can we get a source for that? I'd not heard that before. -
That's where Raoden finds the book written entirely in Aonic script (along with a dictionary to decode the whole thing). And there are lots of books and scrolls of Fjorden geography there; I literally read it only a few days ago. Depending on how your copy is laid out (I have the eBook) it should be page 1 or 2 of Chapter 13.

Good shout on the library Weiry. The books I'm talking about though are from earlier in the book before they find the library. They came from Galladon's secret stash. Is that Galladon's father's study? I thought it was something like that but couldn't remember for sure and it hasn't come up in my re-read yet.

Theory: Aslydin is a member of the Seventeenth Shard
Senor Feesh replied to Lightflame's topic in Cosmere Discussion
After having a little dig around Coppermind looking at various Cosmere naming conventions, her name could be of Terris origin. It could also be Rosharan, but doesn't seem to have the not-quite-palindrome symmetry of Vorin names. I suppose it could also be Yolish or another world, but I'm only going by published works. -
So I'm currently re-reading Elantris (typically started just before the Anniversary edition was announced or I might have waited ) Anyway, I'm making notes and things as I'm going of things (realmatic or otherwise) which interest me and might be good talking points. There's every possibilty they've been raised before, and my contributions to this thread will be mostly weird ramblings with no real structure, but I'm hoping that people will be able to take something I raise here and turn it into something more significant Reamatically. So let's go! Jaddeth - is he a real person? is Domi? Are they Slivers? People who've figured out a way to hold one or more Splinters the way that Aona and Skai once held full the Shards? He's referred to as being underground. "Prison of stone, Great Jaddeth below". Things like that. For some reason I get the feeling this is literal rather than figurative. Makes me wonder if the similarity to Stone Shamanism is significant or just coincidental. Regional magic - The Elantrian scholar who wrote (or at least owned) the books on AonDor that Raoden studies had a LOT of books and scrolls on Fjordell geography. Was s/he trying to hack AonDor to work in Fjordell? Did Galladon know about this place BEFORE Elantris fell? Was he trying to figure out how to make AonDor work outside Elantris? Perhaps on other worlds? Could Galladon have been part of the 17th Shard prior to the events of Elantris? (Somehow I feel this is a no, but I'm putting it out there). That's all for now, more coming as I think of it.

And I'm Back Again (For Who Knows How Long)
Senor Feesh replied to Senor Feesh's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Cheers, I'll do my best to get caught up over the next few months. Sadly, time won't allow me to devote as much time to Shard-related activities as I used to. The demands of a full-time job, a toddler, and a Netrunner addiction are many and time-consuming. Still, I was never great at forming theories of my own - I'll continue to try and offer up discussion points or interesting tidbits as I find them, and hope others can spin theories from them -
Metals And Mists: Questions On Allomantic Fundamentals

Wait, SEMI-debunked? Has there been some new info come to light which has given this new legs? o.O I'd put that one in the ground months ago! -
And I'm Back Again (For Who Knows How Long)
Senor Feesh replied to Senor Feesh's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Well, all up to date again with the WoB (unless there's more from outside that thread) - I guess I'll start slowly integrating myself back into Realmatic Theories (and then realise I'm in faaaaar over my head, as usual ) -
So, the 'lock' in the Oathgate (by which I mean the slot that fits a Shardblade) - what's it made out of? It isn't cut by Shardblades, and reacts (changing its shape) to fit a Shardbade being inserted. Shallan Even thinks something along the lines of 'its made of the same material' when Renarin's blade fails to mark it. Are the locks Spren? Or just Invested metal?

This has probably been covered (I've been out of the loop for a LONG time, still catching up) but has anyone raised the notion of Savant Surgebinders? The reason I've been thinking about it: Syl states to Kaladin at the end of WoR that someone using the Honorblade would need far more Stormlight than Kaladin himself - "dangerous amounts" of it. Couple that with a WoB that using Stormlight is something akin to Allomancy in how it affects the sould (forcing power through creating 'troughs').* So what would this DO to a person? How would Savant-surgebinding manifest? What might the drawbacks be? *Will attempt to update thread with a link to relevant WoB later
-
Syl specifically states in the book that "anyone who uses that sword would gain the abilities of a Windrunner." (not necessarily verbatim). I think it's safe to assume Honorblades grant two surges.

And I'm Back Again (For Who Knows How Long)
Senor Feesh replied to Senor Feesh's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Thanks Kurk, good to see you're still here - have an upvote Seriously though, thanks for the link, I'll get cracking on that now. -
Hey guys, I've been out of the loop for a long time (busy with other obsessions - gasp!). Because I've had just the books for company (and not the rest of you lovely people and the interview database) for several months now I am WELL out of date on current theories, or even what's been noticed in-text (easter eggs and such). I've not been fully invested seince pre-Words of Radiance release (as I was going to great pains to avoid spoilers in the form of interlude readings pre-release). Any advice on where I should start catching up?
-
Ah, this will never work for me. For one, most of my books came from Waterstones instead of Amazon, but mainly because I created a new kindle-only to share with my partner when we both got them Neat idea though.

Dalinar has Adhesion, not Gravitation. He can't use Lashings to alter his perspective of gravity. He can use Stormlight to stick things to things (like Kaladin using rocks to climb the Chasm in tWoK). Not sure yet what Tension does, but I don't see Adhesion helping him to orient himself correctly as he falls. Question: Does holding Stormlight enhance your typical physical attributes (a la Pewter burning)? I seem to remember something of the like being mentioned. I could imagine it helping him to improve his balance and reaction times, no Surges required. I imagine Tension was likely involved in holding up the Chasmfiend claw, but I guess we'll see. Edit for additional: even if Dalinar could use Gravitation, it wouldn't have helped him balance. If Szeth lashed himself directly up, but didn't twist his body, he'd hit the ceiling with his head. Lashing yourself towards the ground won't make your feet magically get beneath you, it'll just make you fall in that direction (and if you already are, you'll fall faster).
