Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon
Fifth Scholar replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This is what I get for going off of memory. To be fair, I hadn’t really factored in Eternum’s vote when I voted for Steel, which is probably why I forgot about it >> still should’ve checked, sorry. My general idea was that we should limit who handles the information, to avoid Eliminators altering, tampering with, gaining access to, and potentially simply halting the flow of information. While it’s likely unwise to put all our eggs in the Orlok basket, maybe having a few Sithe pass info to Steel (or just someone random to see what happens), Orlok is a good resource as an essentially cleared villager. And I am not suggesting roleclaims (that’s a more personal choice) but passing of information to Orlok is certainly not something that would hurt us, if we truly believe he is cleared. Finally, we don’t have to abide by the exact terms of the anonymous message, as the person sending it did simply phrase it as a suggestion.- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon

Okay, makes sense. I don’t really know about ciphers, I just messed around with anagrams before giving up. That’s a good point. I could see Drought’s lover partner being the Ciridae, and manipulating Drought’s vote to tie things and then finalize the lynch. Yeah I understand that does look bad...let me explain a bit. So me trying to take votes off Elandera wasn’t really because of her behavior, but because I saw her up for the lynch on grounds she couldn’t really defend against (not knowing not to insult tinkers, which she didn’t know because she hadn’t read KKC). So while I’m fine with joke-votes earlier in the cycle, I didn’t want to see Elandera lynched for such a silly reason, knowing how frustrating that might be, and still village-reading (or at least neutral-reading) her at the time. The fact that I was wrong is unfortunate, but not really alignment indicative if you look at the reasons for which I did it. Meanwhile, I believe my suspicions of Steel were perfectly legitimate (in fact I haven’t dropped them), which is borne out by Rae coming to the same conclusion as me at basically the same time. Meanwhile, my vote on Steel was the first and if I was actually trying to save Elandera I would have stuck it on a target with more votes at the time (Aonar/Drought/Rae). Nevertheless, nonwithstanding these points, your criticism of me is fair, as I likely do have the most connection to Elandera. I wish I could bring up more evidence without straight-up roleclaiming but I can’t, so I’ll just leave it there. Also, Cthaeh!Orlok would already know the information we’re passing him, and if he posts incorrect information the Sithe quickly correct and lynch him. So I’m not seeing the issue with Orlok as a hub of information, considering I was part of one of the chains that gave Orlok the info he posted inthread.- 406 replies

Not thinking it was an elim plot, just saying that the Ciridae seems to have very good synergy, and if we don’t want to leave the lynch up to him we need a two vote lead.- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon
Fifth Scholar replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This thread is looking dead. I tried to decipher that and ended up just wasting a bunch of time. Going back and reading through today, I think four people voted?? At this rate only people actually offering opinions will be left thanks to the filter. I realize I haven’t voted yet either but I’ll hopefully fix that soon. I’m curious as to @Eternum’s “suspicions” about the message we received. Care to elaborate? Young Bard: No kill happened, as the rules say “the majority of protection powers will be distinguished from each other (paraphrasing slightly),” meaning protection is revealed in the writeup. Agree on the call for borderline inactives to join, though. Speaking of which, @Droughtbringer, you said What are your conclusions based on your perusal of the thread? You said this seventeen hours ago (as of me writing this). Alvron: This is a very good point, and Snip’s defense doesn’t make me feel much better about him. I’m not sure if I’ll vote on this yet, but this is something to consider. Something else that seemed to fit together a bit too well was the way in which Elandera died. The Ciridae appears to have vote manipulation that can move a no-vote to a vote because no other ability in the game does that, and the Ciridae broke a “tied” lynch in favor of Elandera, when the lynch wasn’t tied going into the close of the cycle. Therefore, if we want to lynch someone without worrying about the Ciridae breaking a tie, we have to have a two-vote lead on someone going into the lynch to be sure they will die. I want to say more, but am tired, so I’ll put my vote on Snipexe and hopefully come back to this later with a fresh mind. (Note that this is mostly a placeholder vote until I have more time to look over stuff.)- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon
Fifth Scholar replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thoughts! (Yeah after realizing PMs were open I just kinda spent the whole day there and didn’t really contribute here. Hopefully will change that) So I am in fairly strong agreement about Orlok being cleared- I wouldn’t put a complete bus of a teammate beneath him to gain trust, but it would be unusual, and his post accusing Elandera doesn’t look like a setup, so unless I have very good reason to suspect him I will treat him as cleared. I will also clear Eternum and Bort, though to a far lesser degree. I read through the rules again, specifically Elim team roles. Looking at them and assuming a four-player Elim team, a likely number for this game, we know of the existence of Cyphus and now Encanis. In addition, there are so many mechanics revolving around scrael and skindancers that I would be very surprised if neither of those roles existed. So for now, I’m treating Cinder as if he didn’t exist, because in my view he probably doesn’t. Lack of an elim kill is strange, but I see it more likely as the result of abstinence by the Elims than successful use of a Monk or Namer roleblock, as it seems like most of the namers used their anonymous messages and the probability of a Monk catching the Elim sending in the kill is...low. I’m not sure why the Elims refrained from killing, other than perhaps to reduce the amount of information available to us. I’m in support of the idea behind the PM chain, though I think routing everything to Orlok is probably our best bet, since if he has all the information he can vet it for its truthfulness and report all his findings to the thread. (Thought behind this is that false information could easily be spread by one source if it wasn’t checked or ratified by anyone.) This will give the village information as well as allowing Sithe to claim without fear to someone who’s mostly village-read. If our Sithe do begin dropping with alarming frequency, we know who to blame. (But Orlok seems village.) Finally, with the whole “Encanis is difficult to kill” thing, I wouldn’t be surprised if we needed a Tehlin Monk and some good old-fashioned holly and iron to banish him permanently. A vote shall come later this cycle, I suppose.- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon

But in all seriousness, my bad read of you is mostly gone. I’m kinda just struck by the coincidence that the person I originally had an off feel about posted essentially the same thing right before me. But no, I was joking, and while I reserve a slight paranoia, because this is SE, I mostly trust you now, or at least don’t really suspect you. Looking back over your posts I can’t find anything suspicious, so it’s probably a tone thing. As a side note, Steel’s nonchalance about being lynched is not persuading me to remove my vote.- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon

Do keep in mind that if you don’t vote twice, any kind of vote negation will instantly kill you, and if Elims have any of said nullification (I’m particularly thinking Scraeling Master) they basically get a free kill. So while you could burn your passes now, you could also just save them as insurance against Elim vote nullification that could potentially result in your death. Speaking of which, I should likely vote myself. I think I’m going to vote for Steeldancer. Behold his game-related posts: See, I just don’t see how this comment is useful. Other than invoking an IKYK around his identity that nothing can be concluded from, it accomplishes nothing, and just seems like filler or discussion bait to waste time. Even if the content of the comment itself is NAI, the discussion brought up by it doesn’t really help the village. I suppose this is a joke-vote, which is fine if Steel was just messing around and planned to move it. What irks me is this: @Steeldancer, you say you were “purposely messing around,” which is fine, and I certainly don’t mind you having your fun. But voting CadCom for playing along doesn’t seem logical. I don’t really see CadCom’s vote on Rae as an attempt to start a bandwagon or mislynch and I’m curious as to why you called him out on it. (To be fair, this is complicated by my still shaky feelings about Rae’s alignment, but I digress.) My main issue here is Steel voting CadCom for something he himself was doing on what was shaky evidence to begin with. The rest of Steel’s posts are mostly clarifications, RP, and non-game-related stuff. To be clear, I recognize this is far from an ironclad case, but it is the best suspicion I have for Day One, so hopefully I’ll be able to do more on following cycles. I actually like Drake’s way of forcing me to vote, because it also forces me to analyze to make informed votes. Thanks a lot Drake edit: partially ninja’d by Rae. And this is only making me more paranoid about her...- 406 replies

I guess Eternum did show up. So now I actually have to put thought into my vote. Thanks Eternum Walin’s vote-for-himself thing happened last game when he was Elim, but it could just be something he does in general, so I won’t move on it unless I have reason to. That said, I would appreciate some thoughts/reads from Walin as well, so he continues to be a participating member of discussion. I will actually hold off on voting for now. I don’t have anything beyond vague suspicion, and while I could vote on somebody it wouldn’t be for particularly good reasons. I’ll probably peruse the rules (again) to see what I can dig up.- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon

@Cadmium Compounder a few things: -Arraenae is a she, to be clear. (It can be really confusing trying to figure out people’s genders, to be fair.) -The most recent vote a person gives is accepted, regardless of whether they retracted their previous vote in green. Retraction is typically used only for clarification, or if someone wants to remove a vote but doesn’t have a new target. -I’m probably going to use CadCom as a shortener for your name. CC just doesn’t sound right to me, and Cadmium is too long and awkward-sounding. @Young Bard While I understand where you might be coming from, I don’t like this kind of accusation mainly because...I guess there’s really no way for me to defend against it? I mean, I certainly understand if you feel that I’m acting “too clean” or whatever, and it’s not a bad reason to suspect someone, but I’m taking issue with it being the only reason against me. That seems more like evidence used as part of a case than comprising the case itself, mainly because all it does at the moment is cast unnecessary suspicion on me on grounds that I can’t defend without changing my tone, which is kinda hard to do I don’t really suspect you for it, but if you’re going to try to lynch me please provide more evidence- 406 replies

Not entirely sure, which is why I’m not voting for you It’s probably just a tone thing, or just my brain snapping to your higher post count and finding it suspicious somehow. Kinda hate putting it down to “just gut,” but that’s the way it is sometimes, I suppose. (Which I do hate when other people say that about me, so I will look over your posts again to see what exactly set off whatever weird mental alarm there is in my head. It’ll probably just be nothing.)- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon
Fifth Scholar replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sure, had just done a quick perusal of the rules after Bort’s comment and saw that all the Sithe possessed some form of knowledge about secret Fae mechanics, and that no other roles appeared to have said knowledge (with the obvious exception of the Cthaeh). So my comment about Wonko being confirmed good if he actually possessed secret knowledge was based on the fact that only the Sithe had said knowledge. Inactivity filter doesn’t sound fun, so I shall vote for Eternum because lynching Elandera, a fairly new player, on the basis of an offhand comment seems kinda harsh to me. I’ve really got no solid suspicions, but maybe that’s a good thing because during the AG, the last real traditional Elimination game I played, I was very sure of a lot of my reads on people, and we all saw how well that went >> If I were to vote purely on gut, I’d likely go Rae or Bort, but at this point in the game with very few posts from both that’s a terrible reason to lynch someone, so I’ll probably be pokevoting until I establish a better set of reads.- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon
Fifth Scholar replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I certainly don’t have an issue with lynching the Cthaeh, to be clear. My main worry is that instead of looking at people and deciding “person X is/is not village,” the thread will become “we need to kill the Cthaeh, let’s see who it could be, maybe person X.” That kind of discussion, while it might give us the Cthaeh, might also not, and it won’t help us find Elims (and in fact simply gives them an easy place to hide). So my comment was more about the flow of conversation than the lynch target itself. Sounds about right. I highly doubt all the uniquely named Chandrian are on the evil team, but I’m pretty sure Encanis made it in, though the “possesses secrets” text being legitimately the only thing we know about him scares me a bit. I’d forgotten about the items. The Steel Knife is a kill, if a highly inconsistent one, though we probably do have at least one Archer of the Sithe, which is a vig kill. So the village isn’t entirely deprived of kills, and with 3-ish kills a night I don’t see this game lasting for too long. I definitely don’t think there are any secret kill roles in play, unless the Archer didn’t make it in. Oh, and Young Bard, before I forget.- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon
Fifth Scholar replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I would point out that I’m pretty sure all the people who know some aspects of the Fae are confirmed good (Sithe), so even if Wonko did know more than he should about the Fae we shouldn’t lynch him for it. Unless, of course, he is the Cthaeh. Contrary to my joke-post, I think the village as a whole should be paying more attention to finding Elims than going Cthaeh-hunting. The best way to find the Cthaeh is actually by Elim kill, since he’s immune to it, though it is interesting that the Cthaeh has access to the elim doc. I suppose this means the Cthaeh could try to sway the Elims one way or another, and try to prevent them from exposing him. Actually, that seems like a fairly major sticking point. @Drake Marshall @randuir Can the Cthaeh comment in the Elim doc? So yeah, basically trying to find the Cthaeh is something Elims are trying to do as well, so it isn’t constructive conversation, in the sense that we can’t trust any of the people who expose the Cthaeh should he be found, and during the conversation itself we’ll just pick up a bunch of null/untrustworthy reads that won’t advance the game when we’re actually trying to kill the Elims later. I need to make my sentences shorter To close, and hopefully get some game-related discussion (though I’ve loved the RP, please keep it up), I will poke Young Bard for shamelessly stealing others’ ideas and words in their post, and inhibiting creative expression. (It was a cool adaptation, though I would like at least one or two game-related comments.)- 406 replies

Mid-Range Game 29: A Midsummer Night with No Moon
Fifth Scholar replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I’m gonna call Eternum out by using my extensive knowledge of the rules, which state that he is likely That One Role That Can Give Their Vote A Negative Weight, and is therefore an Eliminator voting on themself in a convoluted attempt to gain trust, which, if it turns south, he can mitigate by having his negative vote on himself. Since I don’t particularly want to deal with That One Role That Can Give Their Vote a Negative Weighters, this only clarifies the issue in my view: @Eternum should be lynched. In addition, using my rules knowledge, I’d like to call attention to That Guy That Knows Everything, who we should likely focus on eventually, as well as That Eliminator Who Has All Secret Qualities That’s Probably A Fire Demon. He seems threatening, particularly since I am dedicated to the abolition of rampant fire everywhere, having signed the Fire Non-Proliferation Treaty with three other namers who can call on water. It’s really great. You should sign it too. That’s all my thoughts pending the obtainment of my role PM.- 406 replies

I am, because as of right now almost every vote cast has been for no reason, or a contrived reason designed to provide a cover for someone’s true motives. Meanwhile, I am voting for information, which your death would provide. Could I lynch Araris and get the same info? Probably. But Araris has been killed on Day Two twice in the past three games (AG4 and LG44) so I’m not keen on lynching him this early. Besides, all the counter wagons rose in response to my breaking the tie on you, so you remain the key player in the D1 lynch. I’m leaving, and very likely won’t be back until after rollover. Please don’t lynch me while I’m gone.
-
Sure. I didn’t care about Pyro staying alive, honestly, but similar to now I had a feeling discussion was stalling a bit and I wanted to pick it up. I felt breaking a tie would do that, and apparently I was right. And what do you mean, “say it that way?” Yay? It’s good you’re interested in discussion, which I applaud, but I’m not particularly pleased that it’s currently centered on lynching me For now, I’ll just point out claiming in thread would be an abundantly stupid move if I was Mistborn, as that’s one role that nobody really wants around. While Kidpen may have been the only Mistborn, others are possible, I’d say probable, and claiming a dangerous role like that would almost guarantee my lynch. I will now reveal the true reason I’m voting Shqueeves, since I haven’t really done that: his death will yield valuable information in regards to what was going on in the first cycle lynch, him being one of the key players, and so I was hoping I could glean info regarding others’ house alignment with his lynch. To close, I’ll say that I’m certainly pleased with the increased levels of discussion. Good job guys!
-
I think my fear that nobody would talk here is proving correct. To inspire a bit of discussion, I’ll vote on Shqueeves. Let’s finsh what we started.
-
Thanks, y’all Nice to know I’m such a huge threat . I suppose it’s Shqueeves’ house that wants me dead, but perhaps I’m jumping to conclusions. Can’t be too safe at a House ball, I suppose, even for a Mistborn. But whoever wants me dead, I’d certainly appreciate a PM. Or an explanation in thread would work too. Considering the limited information I have to work with, I’ll refrain from voting for now.
-
I have reasons. Alright, I’m actually leaving now.
-
Here and a bit confused by all the lynch stuff going on, but I suppose it is a faction game. I won’t be on the Shard again until after rollover, so please don’t lynch me while I’m away. I’ll break the tie and vote Shqueeves to see what happens.
-
This isn’t going to be like LG42 where nobody talks in thread, is it? That would be a shame. There’s a lot to discuss, and RP, even if you want to stay crouched in your house doc plotting everyone’s demise. Duilin stood on the roof, watching as the pair of ash-covered birds flitted through the buildings. He’d heard the rumors of sparrows in the area, and naturally had come to investigate. The results were disheartening. While these were thrashers, quite rare for Luthadel to see, he still hadn’t found one sparrow despite all his years of staying up at night watching the skies. It was considered an unhealthy habit for a young nobleman to engage in, and his father had often called him down irritably and made him work in the kitchens like a common skaa when he had found him up on some stranger’s roof, staring at a cardinal or mockingbird. Duilin didn’t particularly care what his parents believed, though. They were too busy at this time anyway, trying to fend off neighboring houses and deal with the economic turmoil the house war was creating. If their son was watching a few birds, perhaps the only remnant of the world before the Lord Ruler took power, what did they care? It kept him out of the way. And that was one place Duilin was happy to be. Duilin continued to watch the pair of birds until small flakes of ash began falling from the sky. Sighing, he turned back home, following the winding streets of Luthadel to his father’s manor amidst the dark swirling ash above him.
-
I’ll sign up. I do not promise an extremely high level of activity, but I will attempt a nice, ordinary level. My character shall be named Duilin, a birdwatcher who especially likes swallows.

Long Game 44: Shadows of Elantris Redux
Fifth Scholar replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I’d like to echo Walin’s commendation of @Cadmium Compounder. It was really a shame he started in Elantris, because he skewered the Gyorn, Odiv, and two of the Jeskeri cycles before Seonid scanned them. His analysis was well thought out and accurate, and I think I’ll be keeping an eye on him in any future games I play, especially if I finally get to be an Eliminator As has been stated before, well done to Len and Steel. Your doc was fun to read, and your strategy was great. I especially loved the convoluted way you tried to clear Len with the Jeskeri Pendant. The Cultists actually did a pretty great job, all things considered, but they just had terrible luck. Araris had a Korathi Pendant, making him immune to Seonid and Aman’s regular scans, but Aman tried to use the Jeskeri Pendant on him, the only non-Korathi Pendant that could have revealed him. And then Aman died and told Seonid to scan the two other Cultists. But without those scans, the Elims were doing pretty great. Walin and Dalinar were in strong trust positions, Drake wasn’t exactly trusted but he wasn’t appearing on suspect lists either, and they had a cohesive plan to eliminate the village trust circle. While it’s not as verbose as some, you should definitely take a look in the elim doc. I’m totally not biased because they gave me the blood of two moderators. Nope. Finally, a few miscellaneous thoughts: - Congrats to @Hemalurgic Headshot for naming the three exact locations needed to restore Elantris an hour after he was thrown in there. And congrats to the Elantrians for listening to him and restoring it. - Well done to all the lovers, especially Wilson, who survived with a huge target on her back, having lived through two (and nearly three) attacks, and one suicide attempt. -I was pretty impressed with all our new players. Looking back at my first game (AG4, *shudder*), you three did much better than I did for your first try. You will all be valuable additions to the community, I’m sure, so stick around and sign up for another game if you have the time! LG45 looks promising. - The passphrase was “Sel Mates,” for those curious. I knew I wanted to make the phrase a pun, then remembered that Elbereth and I had been Devotion and Dominion at one point in the Shard game, and we were now co-GMing together in an Elantris setting. So it seemed very fitting. (Of course, I kind of killed Devotion in that game, but...just a minor detail, right?) - Finally, thanks to Elbereth and Hero for making this an easy game to co-GM, and for being supportive and accomadating partners. I mostly didn’t have to worry about writeups thanks to Hero, and El’s well-organized spreadsheet made my part of the job (logging actions and sending notification PMs) very easy. That left me time to focus on extra stuff like art, which I enjoyed a lot. Thanks to everyone for playing!- 1185 replies
