Long Game 43: Under the Banner of Adonalsium
Fifth Scholar replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Okay, no. Seriously, why is this happening? Retracting votes from Straw because he claimed a Shard is not a good idea. If you found him suspicious, why does the fact that he holds a Shard make him any less so? Shouldn’t that increase your desire to lynch him, because you want a Shard out of Eliminator hands? I’m not saying Straw should be lynched, but this does not seem like a good reason for removing votes, at all, if you found his behavior off in the first place. Especially considering he claimed Preservation, which means he was probably going for an extra life. Just saying. And I think I’ll vote Hemalurgic Headshot again. That post was, to put it lightly, odd. Why would elim!Drought have any particular incentive to vote D2, unless a fellow Elim was up for the lynch? I’d argue that villagers have more of a need to vote than Eliminators, because any vote an Elim makes is traceable by villagers, and can be used as evidence later. Whereas villagers’ only contribution at times is the lynch itself, so their main role is to vote for who they find suspect. So on an average cycle, a villager has more incentive to vote than an Eliminator, at least in my view. As further reason to suspect you, you provided next to no evidence for your Arinian vote. And there’s all the points that Elbereth and I bring up about your previous posts. @_Stick_, you might have to eat your hat and bowtie -

@randuir, I was reading through the effects that might have blocked Ruin, but your post about Dominion distracted me. If you’ll entertain me, I may have a theory as to why you were targeted. I think Dominion may have tried to Invest in you during the Day, and whether or not that Investment succeeded didn’t matter to him, as he gains either the kill action of the Dakhor Monk or your Shardic ability. I don’t think this theory holds water if you aren’t a Shardholder/Hoid/Khriss because you can easily deny having been invested in, but if you are a Shardholder Dominion may have used his day investment almost as a scanner, to see which people have Shards. So he “scanned” you during the day turn, and redirected you at Night. If you aren’t a Shardholder and you weren’t invested in, please tell us so I can drop this theory, but I still get an awful feeling Dominion is basically just scanning and redirecting a random person each cycle. And that would be a terribly potent weapon in Eliminator hands. Now that I think about it, this is really scary and doesn’t just apply to Randuir. Dominion can basically Invest in anybody during the Day, and then at Night they have a free kill or, worse, a Shardic action- which is also bad for the Shardholder, because unlike the regular worldhopper being Invested by Dominion, they have no indication if they’re being targeted. I’d put Dominion as higher than Odium, but potentially lower than Ruin, on our Shardic Top Priority list. Also, to anyone who becomes a Dakhor Monk, I’d advise you to just take your extra life and be happy, because that Night you are probably Dominion’s number one target, and the more actions he wastes the better. The actions of Odium and Ruin from last cycle still confuse me. I still don’t see the benefits of killing Steel, or not taking an action at all. Let me see if I can read over the thread again. -

Sorry, was walking my dogs. (Who apparently like to eat pine pollen, but whatever...) I was being mostly sarcastic in the paragraph mentioned, and certainly didn’t actually think STINK had found an elim. I was mainly just having a little fun. Sorry for the confusion, @Kynedath. I’m serious when I say that I’d like advice on what to do, as without a rule set to analyze and respond to I might just RP, mostly. Does anyone have an item they’d be willing to claim? -

Fifth Scholar replied to Elenion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I’ve never played a game with STINK in it before. This should prove interesting. With his intuition, we’ve already wrung a confession out of Drought, and I’m sure all the Elims will follow suit. So...anyone have any clue as to what we’re supposed to do? Should we claim if we have roles or keep it a secret? I’d welcome any advice, as I haven’t played blackout yet. However, looking at some previous ones, there seem to be items abundant. Would anyone care to report any suspicious items in their possession to the town? Speculation on roles: Diagrammist: Can talk to the dead somehow Knight Radiant: Can protect a player Taravangian: Lead Diagrammist, conversion role? Scholar: Can access big library (what’s it called? Nolan should know this) and has some way of revealing game secrets. Of course, this is all random speculation until we lynch someone, and find out roles. I’ll refrain from voting for now, however. -

Interesting. Odium just killed one of the targets that was likely to be Odium. And Ruin did nothing, as far as I can tell. That seems rather odd, but he may well have been roleblocked. It still bothers me though. I’ll have a look through the rules, and see what could have blocked Ruin’s action. After two days of failed lynches, I’m of a mind not to use this cycle’s lynch on Pyro. Can somebody sum up the reasoning behind the Straw lynch yesterday? I’m curious as to why people were voting for him. I want to look at other targets, obviously, but I’m not sure why so many people wanted him dead last cycle. -

So wait. You’re irritated Hoid hasn’t PMed you. But then you say you just want a PM, which implies Khriss hasn’t contacted you either. Which is it? As for tonight, we can kill Pyro with two vig kills, or one if Odium attacks, if Pyro is truly Survival. If, however, Pyro is Hoid, they will have a charge of Honor’s Investiture, and could block Odium’s attack. In this case, we’d need Ruin and/or a Dakhor Monk (if one exists, is on the same world, and is willing to hit Pyro) to kill him. However, if Pyro does survive the Night, I suggest we move on to other lynch targets tomorrow. -

Really? Dang, that’s annoying. Good catch, though. I suppose we’ll just let Odium settle things, then? Hmm. This kind of complicates things. I’m not sure if I like this, as it appears Pyro will survive the lynch basically no matter what, unless he’s Khriss or another Shard. But I suppose it’ll remove his protection tonight, at which point village vig kills can hopefully kill him. And on the off chance he’s someone else, we’ll still gain info. -

Yay, life is cruel. Just got done showering/ eating after my meet. And it’s 9:20 my time, and I have lots of homework. I’ll try to get a post up in the morning that’s more in-depth than what I’ve been doing. Sorry for my crem levels of activity this cycle. However, I’d like to point out that if Pyro does survive the lynch, he’s either lying about the Investiture he took (we should kill him) or he’s Hoid (we should slaughter him). I would find the second most likely. If Pyro does survive this lynch, assuming it goes through, I advise Dominion (if he’s villager) to redirect Pyro’s action onto himself, because he’ll probably try to convert before he’s vig killed/lynched tomorrow, and Hoid can’t take kill actions, so there’s no danger of him being killed. Although the likelihood of Dominion being in villager hands probably isn’t the highest among the different Shards. Edit: By him, I mean Dominion, and I’m saying Dominion should redirect Pyro’s action onto themself, Dominion. Sorry, my wording was confusing. -

Come on. I have a great idea, check my phone briefly, and HH ninja’s me. I think Pyro is Hoid, so I’ll vote him for now. Still suspect you though, HH. Still at my meet and freezing, but hopefully I’ll be home in a few hours. -

Hemalurgic Headshot is probably right. I should put more thought into my vote, and analyze some other people before just throwing votes on people because I’m tired and lazy. That helps nobody. Although you are my number one suspicion right now, HH, and if after analysis I haven’t found anyone to suspect my vote will return to you. Ruin blew up Braize. I was initially a little surprised. However, after consideration, a few things stood out to me: 1) Ruin could probably just worldhop to a planet during the Day, blow it up, and then return to Silverlight. And do this, every single cycle, until all planets are destroyed. Doing this lets him blow up worlds with impunity, as he can just choose to land at Silverlight and not mysteriously appear in a doc at night. I advise that players use their action tomorrow morning to hop to another world, just so we can monitor Ruin as he goes about his swath of destruction, and catch him hopping during the day turn. 2) Straw suggested blowing up Braize. Whether this is Ruin!Straw, or simply someone who followed his advice, or someone trying to frame him, we should be cognizant of the fact that Straw suggested this first. 3) I’m not giving up my Khriss!Ruin theory. I see Khriss blowing up Braize as a serious possibility as part of a plan to monopolize kill actions. Second, we now have a lot of Shards loose. Good news: most are probably village right now. Bad news is that they won’t be purely village for long. As such, I suggest any villagers holding Shards either do a swap with Pyromancer, a confirmed Shardholder, to avoid letting the Intent control you, or simply let the Intent control you but still work with the village along with your secondary win condition. Wish I had time to do player analysis. Unfortunately, I don’t. But maybe I will later tonight. I’ll just end by saying that I strongly oppose leaving any Shards in containment, as it’d essentially be a free Shard for the Elims. -

I will join this game simply to have the opportunity to play with Aman, whose reputation precedes him considerably. I’ll sign up as Nolan, who can probably be reworked into a more modern Rosharan character. Aman, it’s a pleasure to play with you after hearing so much about you. -

Fifth Scholar replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry, track meets, real life responsibilities, the whole nine yards. I’ll be on more tonight but I’d like to drop some thoughts. First, Pyromancer, lynching me because I’m a good conversion target isn’t the greatest idea simply because there’s no way for me, or anyone else, to prove whether or not I’ve been converted except through analysis. And I haven’t made many posts since last night (which shall hopefully be rectified soon). I’ll say more when I have time, but for now I’ll throw a vote on Hemalurgic Headshot for previously stated reasons. -

Yay! Nice* Shards were released! *some restrictions may apply *cough*DOMINION*cough* Actually, this isn’t too bad. I’m kind of surprised Odium didn’t kill anyone last night, but I’m not really complaining. Ruin blew up Braize, suggesting perhaps a team that wants a monopoly on kill actions? I’m not sure. I need to read back through the old thread. For now, things look much better than they did yesterday, and if we can release the remaining three Shards tomorrow, we can finally worldhop to wherever we please. -

Just saying, stating something like this is a great way to get the village to lynch you . Just so you’re aware. -

I think people are misconstruing what I’m saying. I’m not saying the village should have lynched me with 4 hours to go last night, which would have indeed stifled discussion, but I am disappointed that said discussion did not end with a lynch to cap it off (whether a lynch on me or HH), which would have allowed the village to obtain information along with the discussion. In addition, I am saddened that we lost a lynch to a handful of people who voted no-lynch last cycle, none of whom, I believe, have explained their reasoning behind doing so. But I did look at Kas’s post, and that is good reasoning. -

Ooh, that’s a nice catch, Sart. I think it’s somewhat interesting that Autonomy worldhopped to Nalthis, of all places. (That’s the vote doubling one.) Perhaps they were concerned about being lynched? I’d still like an explanation from those who voted no lynch. Elbereth, that post is good, but the point stands that we can’t analyze any of the reactions D1 without solid information, the kind only obtainable D1 via a lynch. And our lynch was stopped. Which I’m still annoyed about. -

Fifth Scholar replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Agh. This is exactly what I didn’t want to happen. I wish I’d been able to switch back to HH, because this no lynch was not useful at all. I honestly fully expected to be dead right now, but I suppose Orlok’s point that a lynch on me would just stifle discussion was fair. I think you guys slightly misinterpreted my blue text- I meant that my post count would be reduced, not that I would go inactive, and that I would feel that I couldn’t maintain what I would consider a normal level of activity, for me, which is 4 or more posts a day. I’ll still be able to post, just more like twice a day, instead. Hopefully someone will get killed tonight and we can get some actual, solid information to work with. As a final side note, people were using my actions last cycle as a way of clearing me- they should not have. I could have been bluffing, or confident that you would decide not to lynch me. My intent was for the lynch to clear me, and nothing else, but obviously things didn’t pan out that way. I’d like a thorough explanation from everyone who voted no lynch. -

Well, apparently I could have just died peacefully had I not said anything. I am being completely honest when I say that I don’t mind dying. Please vote for me, Monster. And yes, my post is NAI. But my death won’t be. I am prepared for the afterlife. With no Shards, and no Investiture, my death will have little effect outside of providing info. This is the perfect informational lynch. Please actually vote for it. Alright, now I should actually go to bed and stop stressing about this. -
Long Game 43: Under the Banner of Adonalsium
Fifth Scholar replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yes, it was an attempt to gain trust. That’s generally what I try to do in games like these, as getting mislynched tends not to be on my list of priorities. And bagging kill actions, while seeming to be suspicious, was something a wanted to do to have a way of eliminating someone I saw as a threat without going through the bureaucracy of a lynch. I expected to draw suspicion from my Odium comment, and was frankly surprised when relatively little came. However, I said it because I believed it was useful to spread information. There’s a saying @Orlok Tsubodai is fond of regarding spreading information to help the village, but I’ll let him say it, because I’d rather not steal his glory. Wanting the Shard is OK. I understand this, and if I thought desire to take Odium was sufficient grounds for suspicion I’d be pushing a lynch on Steel. But I don’t think that wanting the Shard is bad. I just don’t want it because it makes you everybody’s target, which isn’t a good thing. And I want a ...nicer Shard, if at all possible. I’ve gotten inside Hoid’s head as well, I think, but I don’t know why you see this as bad. Think like your enemy, and you shall know his moves before he strikes. Which is a paraphrase of something famous. Not entirely sure what. Alternatively, I just read the rules a few times and tried to construct a logical thought process for what Hoid and Khriss would have done. Clearly not enough, as I still made a rules mistake, but I tried. My consistent stance on Odium is that he’s not an immediate threat but will become one, once the Vessel is overwhelmed by the Intent. I challenge you to find one post of mine where I deviate from this position. Also, curious as to how you think that mentioning Odium twice, in the same post, draws attention away from him? I was speculating as to what the Elims were doing, and had no firm idea. As for being chummy with HH before trying to lynch him, I am friends with him in real life, but that doesn’t mean I can’t suspect him of being an Eliminator. Not really sure what you mean by that last section there. But your analysis itself wasn’t bad. Mine was far worse on my first attempt (ask anyone who played the AG). Pyromancer, I’d rather not lynch you. You aren’t particularly suspicious, and you’re new to the community as well. But I’m very tempted, just because I feel like we need the information a lynch could offer. So, I will take you up on your offer. Fifth Scholar. I’ve been the center of a lot of discussion, and my death will provide a wealth of information about people, how they reacted to me, and their suspicions. Plus, my real-life responsibilities are beginning to compound, and I may not be able to devote the amount of time to this that it probably deserves. I urge every villager to vote for me, and end this cycle with a lynch that will actually give us something rather than having us flounder around aimlessly the next two cycles. @Droughtbringer @Orlok Tsubodai @Elbereth @TheYoungPyromancer @Magestar @everyoneelse Im going to bed. Best of luck to everyone. -

I’d urge everyone to lynch somebody this cycle. Losing a lynch here is not acceptable, in my eyes. We need information, and the only way to get it is to follow through on our suspicions and actually put somebody’s neck within the noose. If you haven’t voted, please vote. If you have, but your target isn’t looking popular, please move it to HH or Pyromancer. This lynch is vital if only for the information it will grant us, and to get that information, someone must die. @Straw @Jondesu @Elbereth Would any of you move your vote to a more likely lynchable target? -

Fifth Scholar replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
While I agree with part of this, it kinda goes into IKYK territory a bit, so I’d refrain from using this as a way of clearing people. And there are benefits to Elims calling for a no-lynch, as it makes them seem nice and pacifist, as well as defusing a lynch on a potential teammate. Drought, while I see you have slight suspicions of Sart, would you mind checking out HH for me? I’d like a third opinion on him, though I still maintain he should be lynched. Pyro, I’m fairly sure there are currently 2 votes on HH and No Lynch, with some other votes spread among several other people. You have about 7 hours left to vote. Edit: What do you mean? Do you have suspicions of me? If so, please state them.
