  1. That had been quickly recovered. But the change rippled down the timeline, causing AJ to make a foolhardy challenge and meet an early demise.
  2. Neil started speaking. "I... I felt a pull. To the city. I don't know why, but..." his seon cut in. "If we want to find out why Neil came here, of all places, we need more information. And it's become clear to me that joining a guild is the best way to do it." He flashed in a way that suggested a shrug. "The man showed up right when I made the decision and told me to come here. Apparently the other big guilds are not the most moral of organizations." @AonEne
  3. Nekorb watched, fascinated. He had unique investiture, right? Sort of? Alask's weird magic hadn't worked on him, and neither had Kera's healing. The shadow acid had sort of worked, but he was pretty sure that was because it was part of Edahs. On the other hand, maybe it didn't count. It was Investiture resistance, after all, not really any kind of Investiture. But maybe that didn't matter.
  4. Which was actually a Tom Joebob Skeleton Key in disguise.
  5. Tom snarled. "It was no less then they deserved." He pulled out another key-blade and teleported to Fantastic. Fantastic vanished the key with a zap, and it appeared in his hand. He swung it at Tom, who teleported away. "And what did they ever do to you, Tom?" Fantastic raised the key and pointed it at him. "Nothing. The only reason you 'punished' them was because they sided with me."
  6. The serum went straight to the soul, causing indescribable agony for a brief moment as it burned a symbol deep into Csilen's soul. The woman spun the key in her hands again. "You ready?" @I think I am here., @Shard of Thought
  7. The surface of the coldest star in all of existence.
  8. The woman nodded, and pulled a green vial from her belt. She offered it to Csilen. "Here," she said. "Drink this. It will ensure we can find you after you are reborn." Samika's eyes unfocused. She raised the key in her hand, slowly, and pointed it directly at the screen. "Will you face what you have done?" she whispered. "Or will you hide like a coward in your safe room?" A red light began to flash on one of the walls. Tom made a motion, and it stopped. But he kept his eyes on the spot where it had appeared.
  9. Rogiv yawned and sat up. He was still in his box. The marks of silence looked like they'd lasted, too, which explained why he'd slept for so long. It had sounded like there was some sort of commotion going on before he had retired, but he didn't really care. They'd caught the Forgotten, right? He lay back in his sleeping bag. It was still early; he could sleep for another hour or two and still get breakfast. And the less he had to put up with the others, the better.
  10. Nekorb nodded. They were certainly trying to make an impression. "Why is his skin that color?" he whispered. @Sorana
  11. The figure ran behind the one on horseback. As it ran, it thought. Another one had found truth- in a way. He saw himself as an infinite ladder, with each Narrator being Narrated by the ones above it, eventually all tying back to- presumably- the Author. The figure knew this was not, not for itself. It was part of a collection of Narrator beings. Sometimes they would narrate each other, sometimes themselves- but none were the Author, for the Author could not reside within the world. They were the ultimate Narrator, and they were tied to concept of reality that was far beyond even infinitely larger than the reality it and other characters experienced. Even the concept of an Author was suspect, due to the chaotic nature of this part of existence. In any case, the Author for him was not found "on top" of everything, but rather was everything. In a sense, he was the Narrators- all of them, together. The figure brushed his hand up against the one riding, cutting her from Narration in an instant. A character only she was, now, as she had acted to be. @Ghanderflaffle
  12. So they all bought jackets that adjusted to temperature.
  13. Neil shrugged desperately. "I, I don't really know... he didn't tell me his name, and he disappeared right after talking to me." @AonEne
  14. "I, I just got here, and... someone told me. I should come here, that is." He swallowed nervously.
  15. "I never wanted this," whispered Samika. "Not the way I got it." She shifted her position, but her voice and her face were remained frustratingly unplaceable. "And I suppose I've come to realize I never really wanted it at all. "You were the one who wanted really immortality, for yourself and for me. You didn't believe in an afterlife- or at least, not a pleasant one. And so you feared death, probably more than any of others. "We met earlier than any of the others, becoming friends at a young age. You were the one who convinced me we should seek out the Key. We were close then. We were even closer when we were reborn. "And so I listened to you when you said I should wait. I trusted you when you said that we would find the missing piece. Even when I died again, waiting, I listened to you and trusted what you said. And in the cave, when it seemed all hope was lost, I still listened. Because I cared about you, and I knew you cared about me. "Or, at least, I thought I knew." She shifted again, speaking in a low and sad voice. "I thought that it had been a mistake, but when we found you again at last, what you said to me..." She trailed off, and shuddered violently for a brief moment. Then her voice turned dark. "For three thousand years I have suffered because of your betrayal. You don't even remember it, do you? You used your powers to forget, unwilling to bear what you had done. But just because you don't remember doesn't mean you're excused." The woman began to pace the deck, still speaking. "We had a bond, you and I. We were like sisters." She stopped and turned toward the screen, her face shrouded in shadow from her hood. "And so, when we were reborn, some twist of fate intervened." She pulled back her hood, letting the dim light from the lantern illuminate her face- a face that looked almost exactly like Thought's. "You betrayed me, sister," she hissed. "And I will never forgive you." @Shard of Thought
  16. Draug finished his cake and stood up. "Alright. Time to go defend the city, I guess. Where do we keep the gemstones?"
