  1. I can imagine that he would spend the time and effort re-writing a story that didn't work out the first time and that had already been published in a different medium. Nor would I want him to, I think, as that would steal time away from writing new Cosmere books (he has a lot of them on his plate).
  2. Only some magic systems are tied to location. The Metallic Arts (Allomancy, Feruchemy, Hemalurgy), for example, can be used anywhere in the Cosmere, not just on Scadrial. In fact, I believe that the only location-dependent magic systems are the Sel-based ones (AonDoor, Forgery, etc.). Once you gain the ability to use a particular magic system, you can use it anywhere.
  3. If you would like to discuss this topic more with the addition of information from Oathbringer, you can start a new topic in the Oathbringer Spoiler Board (or request that the mods move it via the report button).
  4. Here's the thread: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/55053-lightweavers-might-be-the-strongest-of-the-10-radiant-groups/ As mentioned in this thread, the main barrier to uber-powerful Lightweavers is knowledge. Roshar is nowhere near the technology level to have an understanding of how to perform any of the really interesting tricks. Do you have a source or some math for your assertion that lasers require "shardic levels of Investiture"?
  5. Hi @SzethIsBadAsHell. You have some interesting ideas about Nightblood's creation. It's helpful to review the Site Rules so that you don't unintentionally break them. Specifically, see the sections regarding capitalization/punctuation and double posting.
  6. As Calderis mentioned, Oathbringer spoilers need to be in the Oathbringer forum. You can get a mod to move this thread by using the report button. Also, double posting is discouraged here - you can use the edit button to make additions to previous posts. This is a helpful resource:
  7. The lashing have to be relative to some frame of reference. Why should they work in a Cartesian system (as your proposing) vice a spherical system (e.g. LLA). Why would the origin be fixed to Roshar (the planet) and not the Rosharan sun? Or the center of the Cosmere, for that matter. This is where perception comes in to play.
  8. Terminal velocity is dependent on both air resistance and gravity. It occurs when the force attempting to accelerate you (the force of gravity) is perfectly canceled out by the air resistance. It is proportional to the square root g (the acceleration due to gravity). If you double g, you end up with ~1.4x terminal velocity. Because terminal velocity is the result of resistance, if you are in a vacuum (which has no resistance), you could definitely accelerate indefinitely.* This would basically be the same as him being in outer space. * Until you start to approach the speed of light, then weird stuff starts happening.
  9. https://www.google.com/search?q=gencon+2018 I feel like you could have Googled it in the time it took to compose your post...
  10. It was not arbitrary (according to this WOB I just found).
  11. Some very interesting ideas in this thread. Some awesome Sharders even wrote out a movie outline for Way of Kings.
  12. The Coppermind is a great resource for questions like these: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Polestone
  13. Lots of Unity discussions here: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/search/?&q=unity&type=forums_topic&nodes=86&search_in=titles&sortby=relevancy
  14. I would absolutely play again. I'd actually thought about reviving this multiple times, but laziness always won out.
  15. Create a "Quote Box" using the quote button (between the link and code buttons). Go to Arcanum and hit the "Copy" button on the WOB you want. Paste the WOB into the "Quote Box." P.S. Double posting is discouraged - it's better to edit to add more content to your post.
  16. The Heralds did not have Nahel Bonds - they gained their abilities from the Honorblades and investiture directly from Honor. Nale bonded a Highspren at some later date. He's the only Herald with a spren - that's why he's the only one with access to the surges.
  17. So the lines appear in front of her, and disappear behind her when out of her line of sight. And the Pull is described as mentally "tugging" on one of those lines. Ergo, if you can't see a line, you can't Pull on it, with an exception for an object you just saw a line to not long ago, and can assume is still where it is relative to you when you saw it (especially if you placed it there in the first place with Allomancy, like Vin's Cloud of Horseshoes Highway trick). I think the quote could just as easily be interpreted as the lines disappearing once she's moved too far away from them, instead of the instant they leave her line of sight. In fact, wouldn't your exception apply in this case, as she just saw these lines? I've always thought of this as similar to Allomancers gesturing in the direction of their pushes/pulls, even though that's not necessary. It's just instinct.
  18. We have WOB that nightblood is "leaky". Plus in oathbringer Yes, the breaths/other investiture that Nightblood consumes is "leaked" back out in a corrupted form (the black smoke). However, it is not the leaking that causes Nightblood to "lose his mind" and "eat the soul of his owner."
  19. I think you have it backwards. The smoke is the byproduct of him consuming the wielder's Breaths, not the cause.
  20. Oh, I missed that you specified compressed smoke. I was assuming standard pressure, which would result in an implosion (same volume, less mass). I imagine that Brandon was intending it to be mass-preserving, but his math was off by a bunch. That seems a simpler explanation than Jasnah intentionally Soulcasting the boulder into very compressed smoke. There's not really any reason for her to do that. Any "violation" of mass/energy can be hand-waved away by the introduction of Investiture (because magic).
  21. Did we read the same book? My impression of Shallan in Oathbringer was her spiraling downward.
