I think, for reasonable debate, you have to limit it to just Allomancy, as a steel compounder is basically unbeatable.

[OB] Autism and the Kholins
Scion of the Mists replied to Jazzy Kandra's topic in Stormlight Archive
Why did you copy-paste your giant post from before? It's very easy (especially on a computer) to just hit the edit post button if you need to reformat things. Plus double posting (or triple posting) is against the forum rules. -
Arcanum Unbounded - What to Avoid?
Scion of the Mists replied to Texas Skybreaker's topic in General Brandon Discussion
The preface for each section will talk about what spoilers it contains, so you'll know whether or not you need to skip it. However, I think that you're good as far as spoilers go, seeing as how you've read all the main works except for Mistborn Era 2. Regarding Secret History/Bands of Mourning, they were released at basically the same time, so I'm not sure it matters what order you read them in. P.s. @Texas Skybreaker, this is the wrong forum for this post. It should be in General Brandon Discussion - this is the Introduce Yourself! section. You can ask a moderator to move it by clicking the report post button on your post (don't worry about "reporting" your own post - you won't get in trouble). -
How would non-shard people defeat a Shard?
Scion of the Mists replied to Sunbringer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Hi @Sunbringer, welcome to the Shard! You may want to read the Welcome Post. Double posting is actually against the forum rules. If you need to add additional comments, you can just edit your previous post by clicking the "edit" button. -
I mean, Brandon is an American. It'd be pretty weird if he used non-American spelling.

game Cosmere Codenames
Scion of the Mists replied to Herowannabe's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Good job Red Team! I vote we pass turn. -
Didn't the Trellian Faceless Immortal animate a dead body? I don't think either Lightweavers (either variant) or Returned have that ability.

game Cosmere Codenames
Scion of the Mists replied to Herowannabe's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Hey everyone! I randomly assigned everyone to teams, so let's get this thing underway. Blue Team: Snipexe (Spymaster) Rhapsody Kidpen Rebecca Jondesu Red Team: I am a STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Spymaster) Cadmium Compounder Inklingspren Herowannabe Kal-Eldin Scion of the Mists Rules: If you're unsure how to play, check out @Herowannabe's initial post in the topic or the offical rulebook. Codenames Pictures isn't very different from the original Codenames; I think the only picture-specific rule is that you can't use an image's color/shade as a clue. Locking in guesses: Bold your guesses to lock them in. The spymasters will consider the guesses in the order that they are listed. Passing turn: Your team's turn is over when one of four things happens: you've used all your guesses (number in clue + 1), you guess incorrectly (opposing agent or Innocent Bystander), the 48 hour timer runs out, or at least half of your team states pass turn in bold. Eightball Variant: We've been playing the past few rounds with the eightball variant and it's been working pretty well, so let's keep using it. It's actually in the rulebook (called the Assassin Ending) as a recommended variant for experienced players. Basically, after you identify all of your team's clues, you also have to find the Assassin in White. Additionally, if your team guesses the Assassin in White prior to finding all your clues, the game goes into sudden death mode. Your team has unlimited guesses (but no additional clues from your Spymaster) to find the remaining clues. Spymasters Info (@Snipexe @I am a STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!): Using the information in the "What if I want to take a turn being a Spymaster?" section of Herowannabe's introduction post, please pick a key card and share it via PM. Then feel free to start the game whenever (who goes first is determined by the key card). When posting your clue, remember to tag your teammates, create a 48 hour timer, and link to the game board. Other Players: Anyone else feel free to join the game at any time - post and we'll add you to a team. Former players are tagged below @Kered @Steeldancer @luckat @xinoehp512 @Hemalurgic Headshot @Domi in the Dark @Silverblade5 @Ladrian @Totally_Not_A_Worldhopper @recneps @Julio @Ashspren @Snipexe @Rhapsody @Kidpen @Ashspren @Rebecca @Jondesu @I am a STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @Cadmium Compounder @Inklingspren @Herowannabe @Kal-Eldin @Scion of the Mists -
There's not a firm threshold that Brandon has identified, but a Radiant wouldn't make it. Neither would even a full Lerasium Mistborn. Basically you have to have hold at least a sizable chunk of a Shard. I think a good rule of thumb would be "do you consider this person to have Ascended?" Mistborns and Radiants (with the possible exception of Dalinar) do not Ascend. The Lord Ruler, Kelsier, and Vin did.

You can also ask the Mods to move the topic (via the Report button) instead of making a new topic.

So terms like spren and splinter are somewhat problematic in that they can have very, very broad definitions. A Rosharan would consider basically everything made of Investiture a spren, including Nightblood, Shards, and Adonalsium. Similarly with splinters, Brandon has said that he would consider most Cognitive Shadows splinters "in some ways." However, super general definitions like this aren't really useful. If "spren" can mean anything from a true Rosharan spren, a Shard, even Adonalsium, then there's no point to even using it because it's not specific enough. It's much more useful (and indeed, in line with how most people refer to things) to limit the terminology. So spren would refer to just the Rosharan version (or to any self-aware splinter, but I prefer the former definition), with splinter being the general term for a portion of Investiture (that's much smaller than a full Shard). With respect to Cognitive Shadows, you may be able to stretch the definition of "splinter" to encompass them, but it's much more useful to have the be mutually exclusive categories and require a person.
-
Because there's a huge difference between someone who's currently in control of a Shard and someone who isn't. There is an absurdly large power differential between them: compare Kelsier to Rayse. Yes, we should have a term for both. And I think that Sliver may have made more sense as the term for someone who is currently Ascended, but that's not what Brandon has defined it as.

Lopen was technically King of Alethkar for a short time: He is actually related to his "cousins," but very distantly.

While similar in some respects, spren and Cognitive Shadows are fundamentally different entities. Spren are self-aware splinters of a Shard, while a Cognitive Shadow is a person's spirit which has been prevented from moving Beyond. A spren cannot Ascend because it's just a piece of Investiture. If it were to merge with a "whole" Shard, it would just make a slightly larger Shard (see the below WoB, which is more recent than the "not ready to comment" WoB). It wouldn't be able to function as the Vessel, as it's not and never was a physical being.
-
A Sliver is someone who held all or a large chunk of a Shard's power, and then released it. The temporary aspect is important, as it differentiates someone who is currently in control of a Shard from a normal person who's been permanently change as a result of harnessing the power. The power would leave some residual effects, including the ability to sense Investiture.

who and where are the other heralds?

@TousenShadowForged The Coppermind (basically the Cosmere Wikipedia) is great for these kinds of questions: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Herald. -
What would the other Shards be?
Scion of the Mists replied to Joseph Archuleta's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, you did. It was moved to Cosmere Discussion because it discusses more than just Stormlight. Double posting is not allowed per the forum rules. I would imagine that would also apply to creating duplicate threads. -
It's definitely a skaze.

WOB: Kelsier's stuck on Scadrial (!)
Scion of the Mists replied to robardin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Kelsier could bond with someone. Unknown whether or not he would be able to Shardblad-ify himself. -
What would the other Shards be?

People who are a lot more creative than me have given this a lot of thought. Are we sure we know what the "pact" actually was? Because there are a ton of different formulations that leave a lot of wiggle room (e.g. "Our oath never said anything about what our avatars could do"). Plus, we know that the pact (whatever it was) still allowed for both Honor/Cultivation and Ruin/Preservation to settle on the same world (plus that whole non-cannon Endowment mistspirit thing). Regarding Bavadin's hypocrisy, we know that Shards do have some level of ability to go against their Intent (see Ruin creating an entire planet). My current belief is that Autonomy's drive is to free people from Shardic meddling, and is willing to do some meddling of her own to accomplish her goal. The ends justify the means, if you will.

game Cosmere Codenames
Scion of the Mists replied to Herowannabe's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Hey everyone! I set up a new page on the Google Sheet for Game 8 and began to fill it out. How about everyone who's interested in playing this round add two images to the board. You can find tons of awesome Cosmere images in the Gallery section of the Shard (there's some awesome art in there). You embed them by using the formula: =image("url"); you can get the URL by right clicking on the image and selecting Copy Image Address. If everyone helps out, we can get this round up and running in no time. @Herowannabe @Ashspren @I am a STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @Kidpen @Rhapsody @Kal-Eldin @Cadmium Compounder @Rebecca @Snipexe @Inklingspren -
We don't know We can't say, given that we have no idea what his plan is I can't imagine that he was gifted enough in Foresight to predict a super strange application of a magic system of a Shard that didn't even exist yet (the entire concept of a Shard didn't exist)

Radiant spren are more likely to look to Alethkar due to it's historical significance (WoB below). Plus, there's a sort of feedback loop where existing Radiants draw the attention of more spren, which results in more Radiants. This is seen in Oathbringer when the honorspren cluster around Kaladin and the Bridge Four squires, and eventually bond with some of them.
