  1. Brandon stated this is just kelsier being really good.. It's a skill level thing. Savantism is more than just being really skilled - it has to come with a serious drawback (e.g. Spook's sensitivity, Soulcasters).
  2. That would be a lot easier, but I don't think that there'd be very much benefit to have two of the same spren. You'd get another shardblade, but no additional Surges.
  3. It would depend on perception/skill. Both Wax and Kelsier were able to see/push on different parts of an object.
  4. Humor is one of those things that is super subjective. On my first read of his books, I actually found Wayne/Lift annoying (because I was reading for plot), but upon re-reading, I really, really enjoyed those scenes. Brandon has actually talked about the various (distinct) inspirations/styles for the humor of his various characters: Jane Austen for Shallan; Oscar Wilde for Wit; uplifting, self-effacing for Lopen; innocence/sarcasm for Syl.
  5. Odium did not leave his power behind - he left the broken Dominion/Devotion power behind. As for my thoughts on the Skaze, I basically agree with everyone here: they are definitely splinters of Dominion, their symbols are the Fjordell equivalent of Aons (same as the ones used in Dakhor), and they're going to be very important in the Elantris sequels. LOL - like we can resist
  6. As I said above, in my response to @Spoolofwhool, I was using the distinction between "focus" and "substance" that @Oltux72 defined in the original post.
  7. IIRC, there are a few exceptions to the rule that Truthless have to do everything their master says. First is that Szeth is not allowed to take his own life. Second is that he is not allowed to relinquish his Honorblade. He must have gotten the Honorblade from the Shin; otherwise, why would there be a rule about the Honorblade? Also, Szeth already had "abilities" when the Parshendi purchased him (see OB prologue).
  8. I don't know that it's ever said explicitly that he got the Honorblade from Shinovar, but it's pretty clear. We know that that's where all the Honorblades resided (until Nale stole his); we know that he trained with the various Honorblades in Shinovar; there's never any mention from any of the Parshendi that they had/knew about the Honorblades.
  9. Metals may not be the source of investiture, but they are integral in retrieving the power, so there is still some substance required for the abilities to be powered. I was referring to this part of the OP, which draws a pretty clear distinction between the metal focus and the power source:
  10. So, I've heard this "Timbre is restricted to Venli's gemheart" thing a few, but don't know where it came from. I'm only part way through my reread of Oathbringer, so maybe it hasn't come up yet. After the Everstorm, when the other Listeners are transformed into the Fused, but Venli is not, Timbre appears on the ground beside them - not in Venli's gemheart (OB I-6). Also, it seems like most of the time Timbre is hiding in a pouch that Venli wears, not in Venli's gemheart (OB I-7).
  11. Steel compounding may not gain you reality-bending speed, but it does allow you to move so fast that you can fire a gun from multiple points around a room and it seem as if they are happening at the same time. That's still really fast - like a bystander may or may not see a blur fast. Remember that f-steel would grant you some resistance to the physical effects the power (i.e. the friction) just like all other Feruchemical powers.
  12. Another example is when Kaladin kills a Fused during a wall skirmish in Kholinar. The Fused isn't affected by Kaladin stabbing him until Syl-knife pierces the gemheart. As Ba-Ado-Mishram is a splinter of Odium, I don't think that she can really be counted as a Vessel.
  13. Cultivation and Odium are still whole Shards, and thus can't be "stolen" to make a new Shard. The influences of Cultivation/Odium, could affect how Dalinar behaves as a Vessel, if he were to take up Honor, but there aren't bits and pieces of the other shards just lying around to be absorbed.
  14. More support for this theory: when Dalinar almost (but not really) releases Odium from his bonds, he explicitly says that, if released, his next step would be to take out Cultivation.
  15. It is certainly possible to bond more than one Spren, the issue is being able to abide by multiple Orders' oaths simultaneously. Additionally, it's not necessary to undergo trauma to be bond-able.
  16. Metals do not act as fuel in Allomancy. Allomancers draw Investiture directly from Preservation, so there is no "substance" required to power the abilities.
  17. Most of what we know is on the Coppermind (basically our version of Wikipedia) page: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Iri. Or you can try searching the Arcanum (a repository of Words of Brandon) for "Iri": https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=iri.
  18. The Coppermind (basically the Cosmere version of Wikipedia) is great for things like this: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Cognitive_Shadow
  19. I agree that the Vessels had a hand in how Adonalsium shattered. At the very least, they determined the number of Shards that it split into (there's a WoB that it could have been different number). However, I disagree that the Vessels had a permanent, ongoing effect over time, as you proposed earlier.
  20. The turn is immediately over and the other Spymaster gets to identify one of their agents for free.
  21. Except that we have explicit confirmation from Brandon (via the WoB that Calderis posted earlier) that a Vessel, while able to "interpret" the Intent to some degree, is unable to permanently alter the Invent.
  22. The humans were originally from Ashyn, another planet in the Rosharan system (check out the Coppermind page here). At some point in the past they used the Surges (likely expressed differently than on Roshar) to basically destroy the world, an event referred to as the Cataclysm. They then migrated to Roshar (although some remain on Ashyn, who are the subject of the yet-to-be-written novella The Silence Divine). This early form of magic (Surgebinding or Voidbinding or whatever it's called) was not powered by Honor, according to this brand new Word of Brandon. I think it's pretty clear that their power came from Odium, as he's the only other Shard in the system (besides Cultivation, who was on Roshar with Honor) and we know that you need a Shard in residence for that level of epic magic. P.s. You do not need to put [OB] in the title anymore, but it's always good to keep the titles spoiler-free.
  23. Um, guys? The red teams turn was over before that last guess. Not sure how you want to handle it - probably the same as for an invalid clue.
  24. For the longest time I thought the answer was no, he doesn't absorb the Investiture, he just corrupts it and releases it as the black smoke. However, we have a recent Word of Brandon that Nightblood is, in fact, growing in power over time:
  25. We don't know, but people are having an interesting discussion about it here:
