  1. Odium's champion has nine shadows. I assume that is the unmade?
  2. Remember, Kalladin didn't mean to create squires, he is just a natural leader and the first person to have a group of people who knew about his powers. It was only after this team started to exhibit powers that he began to actively recruit. And who wouldn't want to be a Wind runner. Sja anat spoke to Shallan about building trust so she could find a home for her children. I wonder if Renarin might end up with a whole lot of corrupted spren squires like himself at some stage?
  3. I think the suggestion at the end of OB is that Shallan will not go backwards and splinter further. One interesting thing about the real Shallan is from the discussion with Hoid. He shows her two Shallan's, one falling apart and one standing tall, and suggests the standing tall one is the real Shallan. I think Shallan believes that if she faces what she has done and who she really is she will fall apart, as she did as a child. Hoid suggests she is stronger than she thinks, and that she can face it as herself and survive. The toughness of Veil and the strength of Radiant are present in the real Shallan, she just doesn't know it. I suspect her next truth will be related to her accepting that what happened to her was not her fault. (Trigger warning for abuse) . .. .. .. Shallan imagines a life where her parents are together and happy, and believes she is at fault. This is a common reaction for those who are abused. Her mother tried to kill her. Her Father was an abusive murderer. They are responsible for their own actions, but Shallan blames herself. She is happy for Adolin to kill Sadeas to protect his Father, she doesn't give herself the same permission. Once she accepts this, I think we will start to see the real Shallan.
  4. I am considering it. I have always avoided fan-fiction because it is hard enough finding time to write my original projects. But writing on here has been so much fun, and I spend enough time fan-fictioninf in my head anyway!
  5. Go for it! I am a SAH Mom with 4 kids under 5 and my experience is that you can always carve out a little time for writing. When I started taking it seriously I pretty much stopped watching TV (except with my husband and that was more about us time than the shows), and wrote instead. As for how to find a writing group, I did an online writing course and formed a group from there. I suspect if you look in your local area you could find groups that gather too. I don't think having people at the same stage as you matters, I have people in my group half my age and one who is already a full time published author and it's great! Off topic, sorry folks
  6. Yes, though not as a serious interest I think, just tying up the loose ends. Someone else pointed this out, but I think Tarah is already there. In the scene where Shallan is training as a spy, she describes a women who dresses unusually (but similar to how Kaladin describes Tarah's dress) who seems to be looking for someone. My guess is that Tarah has heard of Kaladin Stormblessed, and is keeping her eye out for him.
  7. I think OB is my favourite, it was insane but there were probably 5 events that are fighting for the highpoint of the book. I did love the Tower though, the symmetry of seeing the fight from Bridge 4 and Adolin's and Dalinar's point of view was so beautifully written.
  8. That is what I assume. And Dalinar's of glory spren.
  9. I am not sure the diagram has a plan for him. I think it is just that Renarin is a wildcard. No one knows what his influence will be. Therefore smart/cruel Mr T can't predict how he fits and Odium can't see his role in the future.
  10. I have been calling the non-Fused ones Listeners in my head
  11. Yanagawn stood on the prowl, starring at the retreating enemy ships. He didn't know what it meant, nor the light that had pierced the sky in the middle of the storm. But it was time. "Head back to Thaylen City" Noura shook her head. "We can't risk it. We don't even know she survived." Yanagawn had no time to argue. A call came up from the mast. There were figures flying towards the boat. The archers began to assemble, but Yanagawn called "wait!" Two figures approached. One looked to be Herdazian and was glowing with Stormlight. The other was floating beside him, legs crossed in the air, chewing on some flat bread. "Lift!" Gawx jumped in the air, his hat tumbling to the deck. He laughed, caring little. No one was looking at him anyway. They were all starring up. Unoqua actually had tears in his eyes. Lift landed on the deck dropping her bread. "You would think saving a city would at least get you some famous Thaylen soft bread. Got anything better than this cardboard?" Dalksi interrupted. "The city? We heard the Alethi turned" "Some of the soldiers got possssed by Odium. But we won. Old tight-butt saved the day." "She means Dalinar." Yanagawn answered into the stunned silence. Lift nodded. "So I think it is time you trusted me. And Gawx. And time you stormin showed me to the food." Gawx pointed to his rooms. Lift bowed towards her Radiant friend. "Thanks your majesty." Then she headed below. Everyone turned to the Herdazian. "Who are you?" Dalksi starred him up and down. The man nodded. "Of course you haven't heard of me yet. But your children will hear tales of the Lopen, the great two-armed Herdazian Radiant." Yanagawn was puzzled. How many arms did he expect to have? Lopen breathed in and glowed with even brighter light. "I must go. Thaylen City is full of women who are hearing tales of my heroics as I speak." Then he winked at the Grand Vizier of Aziz and took off into the sky.
  12. I don't think Kaladin needs a relationship to be complete. I think the scene with the rock has a double meaning. Shallan reminded him of Tien, and then Syl in turn gets excited about the rock. ie Syl=Kaladin's new Tien. He doesn't need a relationship to help him when he is down, he has Syl (and Bridge 4 to a certain extent) All that said, I love reading romance and it won't do him any harm! No characters in existence at the moment work for me, so we would need a new one. I think Kaladin needs someone who is NOT a Windrunner. Someone who can remind him that life doesn't have to always be about serious things and sacrificing yourself all the time. Someone who can challenge him when he is too stubborn and make him laugh. I like the idea of a scholar- Kaladin is unusully bright (his Father suggests this) and has intelligent parents which would lend him that way. My silly theory? Janah mentioned to Shallan that she has evidence that she doesn't do well with wards. So presumably she has had others under her tutelage who did not work out. I love the idea that one of her old students turns up, and ending up a love interest for Kal. They would be bright, stubborn (which made Jasnah dump them as a ward), and a little bit irreverant. Incidently, Shallan was wrong about the flying thing. Having a boyfriend who can fly? Okay. Having a boyfriend who can lash you to the sky so you can fly with him? That is the most romantic thing ever. If Kaladin and his eventual girl don't have a scene of them flying off into the sunset I will be very disappointed!
  13. 3 years is pretty terrific given the work they involve. As much as waiting is hard- I have gotten through a tough year with the thought " At least I get Oathbringer at the end". Anticipation is part of the fun for me!
  14. The worst "result" of it was the destruction of the historical record, meaning Jasnah and others had to work pretty hard to piece together information on the past. That was a pretty damaging and very Odium-esq I would think.
  15. I liked it. It fit so well with the scene. Kalladin faces Amaran, knowing he is going to die, but acknowledging that Bridge 4 has saved him. And then, a member of Bridge 4 saves him from death as well. In some ways it is like Roshane times 100. He is eaten up with anger and revenge for so many years, then comes to realise how pathetic his nemesis really is. Amaran was the real broken spear. I just hope dear Rock can forgive himself.
  16. Good question! I don't think an answer was given. But for want of a better word, there is something "spiritual" about the scars. They wouldn't heal with stormlight, they wouldn't be covered by lightweaving, and they are a "fresh pain" when he fights Amaran. I suspect we will get a sense of why in future books.
  17. (Bit of a serious one, but this is the scene I am sad will get skipped) Shallan's eyes flickered between the two Kholin brothers as they processed their Father's words. Dalinar had stumbled through the terrible truth of their Mother's death, not daring to look either boy in the eye. As the story came to an end he looked up, but his eyes locked onto Shallan's. She recognised the pain contained within, it visited her in the mirror everyday. Killing someone you loved left a distinctive mark. Renarin stared at his knees, his fingers tightening around the chain which he had pulled from the pocket of his shinny new Bridge 4 jacket. Adolin looked up, his eye hollow and cold. Shallan reached out her safe hand and rested it on his shouder. Finally Adolin spoke, his voice cracking like he was a young boy again. "Why are you telling us now?" Dalinar looked back at Adolin. "I sought the Nightwatcher. To forget. I didn't want to remember. But now I do, I knew you needed to know. The truth about her. The truth about me." Pattern gave a nervous hum from Shallan's skirt. Shallan shook her head. No. Forgetting as he had sounded tempting . But she would not take back her truths. Adolin stood, his fists white. "I can't. I need time to think Father. Let's go." Shallan joined him and they walked towards the door. But she paused as Renarin stood and stepped towards his Father, chain falling to the floor. He put out his hand, as if to summon his blade. "No." But Shallan stopped as Renarin placed his hand onto his Father's drooping shoulder. "Father, I am so sorry. The pain you must feel." His eyes were bright, but not with stormlight. "We can help you bear it now." Shallan swallowed a sob as she turned back and followed her husband back down the hall."
  18. I love the topic, but I just can't see it happening, even if it was possible. Remember Kalladin met Syl when she was mentally like a little kid, it would feel kind of wrong, even though she is growing up, to have him see her that way.
  19. In the last chapter before the epilogue, Shallan wonders if Mraize knows that Renarin has bonded with one of Sja-anat's spren. So while it isn t a WOB, it seems to be the assumption of the characters who know about it.
  20. There is so much room for her to grow! And I like that- I think she will be one of the most interesting POVs in books 4 and 5. She went from naive and scared to cocky and over-confident, and I can't wait to see more of her relationship with the Ghostbloods as she finally discovers she is out of her depth. And I love her puns! My kind of humour. She also brings out the best in both Adolin and Kalladin.
  21. This might have been brought up previously (new here!), but has anyone noted the epitaph on Chapter 82 "Don't tell anyone. I can't say it. I must whisper. I foresaw this." -From drawer 30-20, a particularly small emerald The Emeralds were left by the Truthwatchers. Which suggests Renarin might not be the first of his order to bond with a corrupted spren...
  22. Every post I read I think "Oh, them too" Top 3 1. Renarin. Has been since Wok. We only get tastes of his story but his heart is so pure. The scene with Dalinar in the flashbacks absolutely broke me. So much suffering and mistreatment and yet he cares so much. I also loved the scene with Rock, how he turns away from his own insecurity and sits with Slain. Book Renarin can't come soon enough. 2. Rock was so close to number one. Funny, sweet, broken and the heart of Bridge 4 3. Evi. I wish she got to see how far Dalinar (and her boys) have come.
  23. While Sadeas and Amaran did terrible things, that are great characters to read about, and I am disappointed they left the story when they did. I don't know who is going to take up their mantle in future books I am surprised Mr T didn't make the list.
  24. I feel like Tarah's name being dropped in the first two books meant I expected so much more when she finally arrived. The scene with her was a bit of an anticlimax, much to short and sparse. So part of me wants her to appear so we can get more of the story, but another part would be happy with a new character for Kalladin. After All, we have many more characters we will meet, particularly KRs!
