Long Game 46: A Land War in Asia
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Steeldancer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Kidpen. The being at the time using the name Dacty had an epiphany. If he avoided using the sounds of w and w, he bypassed the miscommunication issues that affected the company. It might be uncanny to begin with, but he was confident that he had the capacity to cope with this inconvenience by excising any offending sayings. He hoped the symptoms of this disease did not have an extended existence. If they did, his submission was imminent. ... Since mostly dead players become completely dead after a turn, where turn seems to mean either a night or a day, anyone who is lynched this day turn cannot be saved by any means. This has been the case for most other games as well, but perhaps it's something to make a note of. Miracle Max(Roadwalker, apparently) will in fact never catch up with attrition, since there should be at least two kills every cycle(the lynch and the elim kill), while Max can only produce one pill per cycle. If Westley always makes a night kill, we're up to three people becoming mostly dead in a cycle with a maximum of one victim surviving the experience. I think it's more helpful for Max to revive one of the night kills, but I wonder what other people's opinions on this matter are. At the very least, reviving a night kill will allow Max to create PMs at night, whereas reviving a lynch victim would mean that Max would either have to abstain from PM creation or give a pill away to someone else and let them revive the lynchee.- 862 replies

Gaskana sighed, more exhausted than defiant. "Do you truly believe Haliax to be the great evil you make him out to be, Ruach? There can be no morality without autonomy. We erase all knowledge of our existence because we must. The Sithe annihilate all those who approach the Cthaeh because they must. There is only one evil here; the same being responsible for corrupting us all. The Cthaeh causes misery and pain because it wants to, not out of any sense of necessity. We now have a chance to stop it. The Cthaeh may by nigh-omniscient and immortal, but its power is limited while trapped in the tree. The Cthaeh can see all possible futures, but that won't help it if all futures lead to defeat." "If the Cthaeh cannot be destroyed, it's influence must be contained. You believe approaching the Cthaeh will ensure our deaths, and the deaths of countless others? Perhaps, perhaps you are right. No matter. I am Pale Alenta, and I bring the blight." She gestured, and five enormous Scrael emerged from Alenta's tent, skittering across the ground and coming to a rest at Alenta's feet. "Even if containment is the only option, using sapient, powerful beings to guard an entity that can corrupt with a word will only end in sorrow. There is a better way. The Scrael are nearly mindless. Only I have dominion over them; the Cthaeh will not be able to control or corrupt such creatures. I will send them to guard the tree. The Namer among the troupe members can create an iron barricade to ensure they remain at their post." Alenta turned to the spear wielder. "You ask whether the Sithe will kill us all? I can assure you, they will see no other choice. This troupe has come too close to the Cthaeh. Everyone here is already corrupted. The Chandrian and the Sithe are in its thrall. We traveled the realm in secret, but the Sithe stayed to prevent anyone else from being corrupted as they had, and over time have become mere puppets, no longer the Cthaeh's jailers but its doorkeepers. It's time for this era to end in flames. I shall die, the Sithe shall die, and the Cthaeh shall remain contained by iron and Scrael while new barriers can be put in place by your troupe members. If you want to ensure that the malign influence affecting the troupe ends here, you too will step onto the pyre when your preparations are complete." Fifth Scholar, old friend, would you like to be the first to join me as we burn to death, properly this time?

Gaskana laughed as she listened to the accusations thrown against her. When she spoke, her voice was raspy from centuries of smoke inhalation. "You call me evil? You, Kirel, who should have died in the fires of Myr Tariniel so long ago? Once you were benevolent, a devoted servant of Aleph, but those long ago flames burned away your morality along with your body. Your pursual of what you believed to be the greater good has blinded you to the evil that surrounds us all. You have allied yourself with the same being that cursed us; the same being that even now spreads its vile influence throughout the land. It is not too late for us, nor is it too late for you to turn away from your current path." Next, Gaskana turned to address the crowd of surviving troupe members. "Without my kin and I, all of you would have been long dead. You all know, of course, that the Sithe indiscriminately slaughter anyone or anything that gets close to the Cthaeh's stump. Why then, are you still alive?" She paused, shaking some of the water off her soaked attire. "Some of you have maintained your hold on life because while the Fae care not one whit about the well-being of mortals, their own existences are oh-so-precious to them. You may have noticed that while five troupers have fallen, no Sithe have been willing to put themselves at risk of oblivion. They hide themselves behind shields of glammourie and flesh, preserving themselves at your expense. Seeing the hostile faces of the crowd, Gaskana quickly continued. "People of the Edema Ruh, our quarrel is not with you. We have done you no harm. Squick and Ray Fox were killed by the aura of hatred and fear generated by this place. Neris died to a blow meant for another, his sacrifice forced upon him by the Sithe. Aorais tried to stop the violence, and was personally executed by the very beings who claim to protect you. With his dying breath, Alaxel was able to summon the power to send Locke home, to ensure that there would be at least one survivor of this tragedy. I tell you again, we are not your enemies. Kill me if you must, but know that the Sithe will massacre you within the hour should we fall. You have only one chance of survival. With your help, we can cleanse this land of corruption. Together, we can destroy the Cthaeh and defeat its Sithe minions. No longer will these Fae protect the Cthaeh from those who would combat it, while allowing those with the greatest potential for destruction to become tainted by the Cthaeh's words. Should we prevail, we will help you return home as heroes." Gaskana ignited two torches and held them out, offering one to Kirel and one to the nearest troupe member. "The choice is yours. Do you condemn me to die and leave this realm suffused in evil? Or will you help us fight back against the Cthaeh, the greatest threat we have ever known?"

Everyone took their votes off of Xino because Droughtbringer claimed to be Xino's lover. Can you explain why you're suspicious of Xino and everyone who voted for Xino? Given that both of the leading lynches before Xino started to accumulate votes were on villagers, we can be reasonably sure that the votes on Xino were not an attempt to save a teammate. We should be able to test Xino's tinker status by having him give an item to anyone other than Droughtbringer. Once again, @Megasif and @I think I am here. have to vote this cycle or else they will die of inactivity. Their profiles indicate that both of them have been around in the last couple of hours. If they cast votes, we can decide whether to lynch either of them. Arinian being a villager means that @Cadmium Compounder did not vote for Bard in an attempt to save an evil teammate. I would still like to know why he voted on someone from his neutral list instead of one of his suspects.

Ties are decided by the Ciridae, who is confirmed good, so ties are better in this game than in most other games. So you're saying that Xino showed up exactly once cycle 1, made a random vote, then decided to shift your vote to Elandera? That's odd, but fortunately it should be easy for Xinoehp to prove that he's a tinker, so I'll change my vote to Arinian.

There weren't really any counter lynches against Wonko cycle 2, as that lynch didn't appear until the very end of the cycle. The only votes cast after Eternum and Orlok voted for Wonko were Alvron voting for Eternum and me voting for Xinoehp. With his very first post this game, Arinian notified us that he wouldn't be fully active until June 1st. I hesitate to lynch him one cycle before he becomes fully active. I will reconsider him upon his return to activity, especially if either CadCom or Xinoehp are evil. CadCom's vote switch and Megasif's vote means that Young Bard is now tied with Arinian. Bard has been focusing on Fifth Scholar all game, even after the main lynch attempt against him dissipated. He apparently missed the fact that Steeldancer voted for Snipexe cycle 2. He was also the first one to note that Orlok was missing from the player list. The two swift votes for Bard are unsettling, especially @Cadmium Compounder's. Separate from what Alvron said, it seems odd that CadCom voted for Bard over Xinoehp when they had the same number of votes and CadCom apparently viewed @xinoehp512 as more suspicious. This makes me feel better about Bard, and worse about CadCom, Xinoehp, and Arinian. I would be willing to lynch either CadCom or Xinoehp this cycle, but I'll put my vote on the latter since he has more votes.

I was going to look at the people who voted for Steeldancer cycle 2 during cycle 3, but then I didn't, so I'll do it now. CadCom starts off by randomly voting for Wonko, though he changes that vote to Rae when the lynch votes were still spread out and kept it there. At the beginning of Cycle 2, he expressed surprise about the reference to six more Chandrians, believing that number indicate the remaining elims. It seems unlikely he would have tried this if he was in a doc with Wonko, who evidently has read the books. Later in the cycle, he put the third vote on Steeldancer before the votes on Wonko materialized, shortly after Rae's claim dissolved the lynch on Snipexe. Are Bort and Rae the two elim reads you refer to in your second sentence? You later classify them as neutral, which is not the same thing. Xinoehp was the second vote on Steeldancer, coming with no explanation at a time when I had two votes and several other players had one. Cycle 3, Xinoehp voted for Bort and then didn't come back to see Wonko get lynched. That same cycle they apparently were part of a role swap with Orlok, which could potentially clear Xinoehp if that role was proven to at least one person in addition to Orlok. The same is true for everyone else who was involved in a role swap with Orlok last cycle. Walin cast the first vote on Steeldancer, then didn't come back until the cycle was over. Unlike cycle 1, it didn't appear that his vote weight was set to zero, but we can't know for sure without knowing the roles of Steel's other three voters. Though he voted for Wonko last cycle, his name doesn't appear in the vote tally, suggesting he lost one of his three passes, which probably means he's going to die of inactivity when he misses the next two cycles due to loss of internet unless the GMs allow him to vote ahead of time. Arraenae was the last vote on Steeldancer, which ensured that Snipexe didn't get lynched. I'm still pretty sure that she and Snipexe are non-evil lovers, as I outlined at the very end of cycle 2. This ended up taking far too much time without helping very much. I wouldn't vote for Rae. Walin and Xinoehp are on hold pending the results of their survival and role claim respectively. I'll look at CadCom again before the cycle ends and look at more recent events as well.

Cadmium Compounder, Wonko. From his profile, it appears that @Wonko the Sane has been online since Eternum and Orlok called him out, and I'd like to hear what he has to say in his defense. I doubt an elim or the Cthaeh would fake being a Monk just to get one villager killed this early in the game with one elim already dead, so I'm strongly inclined to believe the claimant is truly a Monk that roleblocked Wonko last cycle. To confirm, your two Sithe informants told you that Encanis has a limited powerful kill, that the Cthaeh can heal, and that Encanis is difficult to banish, while Wonko only gave you the first two pieces of information?

Looking at the vote counts, specifically the two votes on Snipexe, it seems that players affected by a flutist still appear to have voted as if they hadn't been thus affected. My vote vanished because I was chased by Scrael. The three players who would have died of inactivity this cycle have showed up and voted which is excellent, though Aonar's vote is apparently invalid and the other two are voting for players that are likely villagers. With a Scraeling Master out there, any of these three, and anyone else who twice neglects to vote, is vulnerable to being killed via vote nullification (unless they're Tehlin Monks). I'm going to be in that latter group unless I vote today, so I'll put a vote on Cadmium Compounder, largely because I want to know why he choose to vote for Steelancer. I will also note that Walin was viewing the thread late enough in the cycle to have seen that Steeldancer was going to be lynched, but the fact that Walin's vote weight was set to 0 on cycle 1 makes it difficult for me to believe he's anything but a Jester.

There aren't many good reasons to falsely claim lover unless Rae and Snipexe are elim teammates. If that were the case, Elandera would probably have tried to save herself by voting for Steel rather than Rae Cycle 1. Snipexe's vote shift from Elandera to Steel and his concurrent defense of Rae also makes sense in the context of a Rae-Snipexe lover pair as opposed to Snipexe trying to save Elandera. They are thus quite likely to be a village pair, which we should avoid lynching. From what I can tell, the current vote count stands at: Steel(4): Walin, Xinoehp, CadCom, Rae Devotary(2): Wonko, Fifth Wonko(2): Eternum, Orlok Drought(1): YoungBard Itiah(1): Bort Fifth(1): Snipexe Arinian(1): Arinian Xinoehp(): Devotary I will place my vote on Xinoehp, as the most suspicious of the Steel voters.

Steeldancer and I become the main lynch targets if we take our votes off, but okay, Snipexe. I don't really like most of the other lynches; I have mentioned that I currently don't believe either Steeldancer or Fifth are elims, and Droughtbringer being a lover with the player who moved his vote to Elandera would clear him. Arinian voted on himself and left, while Itiah has yet to post at all. Is there a reason you haven't cast a vote yourself?

Looks like I'm going to be voting on Snipexe again, but more seriously this time. Between him and Steeldancer, Snipexe is definitely looking like the better choice, as Steeldancer was almost lynched instead of Elandera yesterday, and would have been if not for the Ciridae and Drought's presumed lover. Currently, we have 8 players who are going to lose one of their three passes, with @Aonar Faileas, @Megasif, and @I think I am here. on track to go a second cycle without voting. Droughtbringer's vote might get added on again, but that's still quite a few players not casting votes.

It looks like you're saying here that you would vote for Snipexe over anyone else in a close vote, then proceed to vote on me. Why is that? If you think Fifth is village and that Snipexe and I are both elims, why would you vote on me as opposed to voting for Snipexe, the latter option protecting Fifth in the process? To be sure, I did misrepresent some of your comments, notably the one pertaining to the flow of secret information. Your more recent explanations clear up any troublesome aspects of that, so Fifth Scholar. Your defense of Elandera is a lot less noteworthy considering that you seemingly signed off for the cycle before Orlok brought up valid suspicions against Elandera, and I also don't like that Snipexe voted for you without citing a reason. Time to go look for another place to put my vote.

I'm pretty sure Elandera has read the books, as her signup post was: You also weren't the first to vote for Steeldancer; you voted for Eternum first and then switched to Steel when Eternum voted for Steel with his first post. I can accept that it would be odd for you to defend a teammate so early in the cycle when both votes on her were essentially pokes/filter avoiders. I'll go look at Phases 1 and 2 again. Regarding Orlok, including him in the PM chains and having him post the information he receives is fine. When you said that the Sithe would start dying if Orlok turned out to be evil though, that sounded like you were suggesting we disregard the anonymous message and just have the Sithe collectively roleclaim to Orlok and tell him everything they know.

With Cyphus's death, the blue fire returned to it's familiar, comforting color. Now when Gaskana set her torches alight, only the heads of them burned. She juggled a trio of them in the air aimlessly, looking at the spot where Cyphus had fallen. Her mother had told her that demons feared cold iron and fire, and apparently copper blades did the job as well. Gaskana had only one of those things. Hopefully that would be enough, but even with Cyphus the fire wielder dead, she suspected more weaponry would be need. She resolved to ask Alev if she had any iron blades to spare. Are you claiming to not be a Jester? There don't seem to be too many abilities capable of nullifying one's one vote; the two most likely alternatives seem to be that you're a singer who was roleblocked or that you were sympathetically linked to a Jester that set the weight of their own vote to zero. Elandera was up for the lynch before anyone voted for you or Steel, with votes on her from Bort and Snipexe. The lynch then went to Eternum before transferring to you and Steel. I do therefore think there is value in looking at those trains. Specifically, I'm going to vote for Fifth Scholar for now. Last cycle, he was the first player to defend Elandera and try to shift votes off of her. He also ended up almost saving her by voting for Steel after Eternum first posted. I'm fairly sure the idea behind the PM chain is that the same information is disseminated among multiple players. Not only does this help preserve the secrecy of the Sithe, but it also ensures that if false information is shared with the thread, multiple people can call out the liar. As very probably not an elim, a lot of information could be routed through Orlok, but until/unless he's confirmed non-Cthaeh, it's best to not rely on him to be the sole source of information.

Gaskana stared at the blue flame, mesmerized. Fire wasn't supposed to be that color. Her mother had always warned her to run away from any signs of such fire, but there was nowhere to run. Not here in Fae. Experimentally, she retrieved on of her juggling torches and poked the smoldering remnants of Shreya's tent with the tip of it. The torch instantly burst into flames. She dropped it before her hand could be consumed, then dumped water on the still burning torch. Fascinating. Not just a cosmetic change then. CONFLAGRATIONS would have to be informed, assuming she ever managed to leave Fae. In Drake's last game, you needed to have a vote placed by the end of the cycle to avoid the inactivity filter, so a retracted vote would not count as a vote.

As an honorary member of the Committee Overseeing Normally Flammable Locations And General Reactions Amidst Towering Infernos Of Natural Substances, Gaskana would like to remind everyone to possess some means of starting a fire, both for light and for protection in the case of an encounter with Scrael or Cthaeh. Furthermore, she will call out Fifth Scholar for showing an unhealthy distaste for fire that potentially indicates agreement with the Cthaeh's goals.

I can join as Gaskana, a juggler that only ever performs with objects set on fire. Do anonymous messages count as PMs for purposes of Cthaeh's spying ability and the evil team's unfortunate inability to PM each other? Does Scyphus's upgraded kill affect everyone that targeted the kill target, or just one additional player?

The vote appears to be currently tied, but there are still three princes out there. Lopen is one, and will probably shift a vote to Walin. The other two princes could do almost anything. King Cole hasn't posted in this game since April 18th; more than two weeks ago, with no indication as far as I can tell that he's going to come back. Coop appeared as a pinch hitter on April 21st, after Cole had been inactive for a full cycle. I kind of feel that if King Cole was an eliminator, he would have been subbed out by now. I will thus vote for Walin, as the other main candidate and someone who I am moderately suspicious of.- 1185 replies

Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
5/26 Jeskeri is 19.2%, which falls well within the normal range of elim numbers. 4/26 is also entirely possible, but seems on the low side considering the village had two priests, at least one Jindo warrior, and a higher average number of items. The presence of the Shu-Dereth team would make 5 Cultists difficult for the village, but not to the extent that it's unreasonable. More importantly, what makes you state conclusively that there weren't any Jeskeri Elantrians up to that point?- 1185 replies

If that's the case, then there exists a possibility 2.b from your analysis. This doesn't prevent Lopen's theory of an inactive non-Elantrian Jeskeri from being true, but it's worth looking at. If the Elantrians again used up all their actions on Nights 6, then we can pretty much clear the player who were action scanned that night, which might narrow down the suspects.- 1185 replies
