Long Game 44: Shadows of Elantris Redux
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
King Cole's vote was shifted onto Araris, Pyromancer's vote was shifted onto Dalinar, Lopen's vote vanished, and Araris has two extra votes than are indicated by the vote tally. Cole didn't vote, so that's probably the work of a prince/princess. The vote on HH is probably a legitamate vote by Droughtbringer. I don't see how Pyromancer's vote ended up on Dalinar, nor how Lopen's vote vanished. Both of them did vote for Araris, so it couldn't have been a prince, and I don't know of any ability that removes a player's name from the voting tally.- 1185 replies

Everyone gets two night actions, and converting a player and swearing an Odiv are two different actions, so I'm pretty sure the Gyorn can do both in a single night. The fact that Hero needed to make this clarification: heavily implies that it is possible for the Gyorn to do both. They just can't make someone on Odiv on the same night they convert someone, so the newly converted Elantrian cannot yet be the Odiv.- 1185 replies

So there are currently four Derethi converts, two of which could be Odivs. Of the initial converts, one of them used their pendant on an unknown player. The pendant's target is one of two possible Odivs if the Gyorn has sworn an Odiv. The second convert supposedly gave their pendant to Elenion. If the Gyorn targeted the person who gave the pendant to Elenion, then there is no Odiv at this time. We don't know anything about the third original convert, but Amanuensis has asked me to tell the thread that the Gyorn converted an Elantrian last night. @little wilson and @TheYoungPyromancer can confirm this. We should be able to tell whether an Odiv has been selected by the start of the next day turn, unless the Odiv deliberately decides not to convert.- 1185 replies

Aman has said several times that he wanted to go to Elantris, so it's entirely possible that someone poisoned him. It would also make sense for a Cultist team to poison him instead of killing him if they thought he would be protected.- 1185 replies

When Sheodan returned to his quarters that night, he took out the healing potion he had purchased from the Alchemist. Supposedly, this concoction had the ability to heal any manner of burns, no matter how old they were. Sheodan still dreamed of that morning thirteen years ago, when he’d had a different name. Eshen had been 12 years old when his brother became an Elantrian. For as long as Eshen could remember, Kanedo had been the only family he'd had. When the Shaod hit, filling Kanedo with Devotion's power, Eshen had been ecstatic. "You're glowing silver! You're going to be a god, and we'll get to live in Elantris, and!" Kanedo had interrupted Eshen's excited rant. "We?" he asked in a quiet voice. Eshen frowned, confused. "The families of Elantrians are allowed to live in the city". Kanedo nodded agreeably. "In general, that is the case. As you say though, I am a god now. Your usefulness to me is at an end." He began to to trace the horizontal line, concave vertical connecting line, and the dot that made up Aon Aon, then followed up by completing the quadrilateral and inscribing a diamond at a 45 degree angle. It wasn't until Kanedo began to trace a glowing circle originating from the bottom of the concave curve that Eshen realized he was serious. He turned and bolted out of the alleyway, just hitting the ground as the column of flame engulfed him. The Aon Ehe had been drawn without any modifiers, so it had weakened enough that the fire merely seared the flesh off his back rather than incinerating him. The distant part of Eshen’s brain that wasn’t focused on screaming in agony awaited the second blast of fire that would consume him. It didn’t come. Kanedo headed off to Elantris, leaving his brother to smolder. Once the acute pain had subsided to a constant agony, Eshen got up and stumbled over to the river. The frigid water soothed his burns, but did nothing for his hatred. He would take a new name, and he would find his brother and… Back in his room, Sheodan shook his head to clear away the memory. The old hatred was still so strong, even though it had been ten years since his brother had died when Elantris fell. The only thing that remained off him was the lattice of scars on Sheodan’s back. It was time to end this, Sheodan decided. He would no longer be burdened with the memories of his brother. He drank the potion in three gulps, then went looking for something to eat.- 1185 replies

Ah, yes you are correct. Dalinar could be a Monarch just as easily as Mraize. So you're planning on attacking one of your suspicions tonight, with Bort announcing the identity of your target in case the attack fails? It is possible that there are multiple village Jindo warriors who could protect you indefinitely, although that would be difficult to coordinate.- 1185 replies

Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Assuming this vote tally is accurate, the Honey Badger and Dalinar votes are almost certainly the result of Princes/Princesses. The extra vote for Honey Badger is either because Mraize is a Monarch or because a player with the passphrase who didn't vote secretly voted on him. The extra vote on Bort must have been for similar reasons. This is good news. Unless someone targeted Randuir, whoever used this pendant now knows the identity of a Cultist. Although, @Herowannabe, I thought the use of a Jeskeri pendant to attack a player was a night-only action. Did I misread the rules, or was this supposed to be a Derethi pendant?- 1185 replies

I am willing to take my vote off of Bort, but I don't really see an Eternum counter-lynch. He's made two posts so far, one of which noted the exchange between Joe and Kidpen while the other declared his reasons for voting Bort. I don't see his vote on Bort as being indicative of him being evil unless he's on a team with Honey Badger. I am more willing to vote for Randuir over Eternum or Bort. One of the things that's odd is that he changed from suggesting that there was no reason for converts not to claim: to suggesting that the Cultists would be likely to target players who claimed to be converted. However, Araris had pointed out that the Cultists would like to target converts in the time between these two posts, so it's entirely possible that he legitimately changed his mind. Bort had probably been referring to this post by Joe: I'm not sure that this necessarily indicates anything about Randuir except that he hadn't intensely scoured the thread, but it could potentially be an attempt to stifle discussion of the Jeskeri. Given the way this counter-lynch is going, Randuir will be lynched, especially if Aman is a Prince. With my retraction, the lynch is currently tied at six votes each. I will add my vote to Randuir.- 1185 replies

Sheodan looked down. He was still holding the bag of gold. "Um, sorry. I was sure I had given this to you." He walked back and handed the 30 gold pieces to Fenot. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If Aman is a Cultist making a false claim, it's likely that he would have picked a role held by a teammate, so it could be successfully faked. So you're claiming to have a role that can be proven? There aren't many roles that are guaranteed to be provable. The Jindo warrior only triggers if their target is attacked, the Shu-Korath priest's scan can only be confirmed if their target is later killed, the Dula ability only triggers if someone votes on you, although I suppose you could also out the lover pair you made. The Monarch's double vote is hard to distinguish from someone using a passphrase, especially as you haven't voted. The only remaining roles are lover and Prince, and it's unlikely to be the former as you signed up thirty minutes before signups closed. If your role guarantees your death, why did you offer to roleclaim to the first person who PM'd you? On the off chance you are a Jindo warrior, you can self protect.- 1185 replies

Long Game 44: Shadows of Elantris Redux
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Distance based magic then. Like Elantris. Sheodan looked to the ruined city and winced. Elantris's fall had had a horrible effect on its denizens. The beings once treated as gods, reduced to disfigured wretches. Sheodan's gaze turned back to Fenot. What would happen if he died? Would his potions be twisted beyond recognition, becoming horrible poisons? Sheodan didn't intend to find out. He walked away, potion in hand. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Vote Tally: Kidpen(1): Pyro Bort(6): Elenion, Eternum, Araris, Randuir, Arinian, Devotary Honey Badger(3): Straw, Wilson, Bort Straw(1): Stink Steeldancer(1): Lopen Araris(1): Joe So Bort is currently being lynched, with the last five votes coming within a span of an hour. There are at least five ways the final vote tally could be different from the public vote tally. Let me know if I missed any. The monarch's vote counts double, the prince/princess can take someone who didn't vote and place their vote on someone, everyone who knows the passphrase can place secret votes that override their public ones, the Shu-Dereth pendant can cancel the votes of all the converts who voted for the target player, and the number of votes placed on a Dula is automatically reduced by one. Sometimes it can be helpful to have tie votes to see who gets saved/killed by vote manipulation, but in this game there are enough manipulation possibilities, many of them indistinguishable from each other, that a tie vote, or even a close vote, isn't as helpful. As such, I will vote for Bort. We have two non-Elantrians who have not said anything yet. Honey Badger has already been mentioned a couple of times, so instead I will tag @Dalinar Kholin, who hasn't been online for almost a week. It was probably this post, Pyromancer.- 1185 replies

Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
50 gold for a potion that replicated an effect that any Elantrian would have done for free 10 years ago. Sheodan pushed the thought down hurriedly. "Careful," his inner voice mocked. "One might think that you missed the days when any fool lucky enough to undergo the Shaod could wreck havoc by etching a few lines in the air." Fenot was no fool. His mother had been an Elantrian before the Reod, he had perhaps even lived in Elantris himself, and yet he chose to make a living selling potions. Sheodan nodded to himself. Such a man deserved to make a profit. Once Fenot's other patrons had concluded their business, Sheodan walked up to the table. "Do you have anything for burn scars? I took an Aon Ehe in the back 12 years ago, and it never healed right. I've kept it this long as a reminder, but I figure it's better to have the ability to heal it if I want to. Maybe someday I'll be able to forgive myself." Sheodan counted out his coins. "Let's see, 28, 29, 30." He held out thirty gold coins. "How long are these potions of yours good for? Will the healing potion still work if I wait a few months or years or decades to use it?" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The dead doc vote for Monarch inheritance will work once we actually have dead players. I would assume that Monarchs are allowed to change their inheritance system, so they should be able to develop a temporary system for use until villagers start dying. In LG12, there were 8 Seons in a game with 27 players. I would expect this game to have roughly the same number of Seons, so having all the Seon holders make PMs with Elantrians is definitely excessive. Making a PM also reveals that you have a Seon, which is not a desirable outcome. I would advise Seon holders to not designate any of their PM contacts as heirs to ensure that none of their contact are tempted to kill them for their Seon.- 1185 replies

Sheodan watched as the Alchemist survived what should have been a lethal blow. Once the lordling had left, Sheodan approached Fenot's table. "Your DensitTea is interesting concoction, to be sure. The limited duration makes it nearly useless in battle, however. What do you have that can heal a wound after the fact?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arelish converts do have an incentive to claim, as being a convert mostly clears them of being the Gyorn. The Gyorn is the only player who would benefit from false-claiming this cycle, and doing so would leave them open to being lynched tomorrow if a Shu-Korathi priest decided to verify their claim. Scans come before Odiv swearing, so there's no chance for a current Arelish convert who gets scanned would be revealed as the Odiv. If a player is a convert because they have a Shu-Dereth pendant, they might benefit from staying silent even if they would prefer not to become the Odiv. They could try to induce the Gyorn to convert them, only to give away the Shu-Dereth pendant before they become an Odiv. This would delay the Gyorn's win condition by an entire cycle. We can't really get rid of the Derethi pendants effectively without having a claimed convert, which might not happen until conversions start going up by two. You do raise a good point about claimed converts being targeted by Cultists, though, which might continue even after an Odiv is selected. Ultimately, while it would might be helpful if all three current converts claimed, I think any coordinated claims should wait until after the Odiv is selected. We won't know for sure that this has occurred until Day 3 at the earliest, so if people want to claim before then, they can.- 1185 replies

The Art of Game Creation
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
None of the public rules indicate that alignment changes are possible, so I'm presuming that this is part of a secret trait. More importantly, how would the lovers end up being the last two players when the Cthaeh cannot die? Is this last role supposed to be Arcanist instead of magician? Is this a redirecting action? If players A, B, and C were selected, would this cause actions that target A to affect B, B to affect C, and C to affect A? Does this apply to items as well? This doesn't appear to accomplish anything, unless there are secret vote manipulation abilities or if it protects from the lutist/flutist abilities. What is the order of actions? All the yellow and blue roles are confirmed good, correct? The only exceptions are potential secret traits and that Cinder(s) will appear as a different role after the first cycle. -
Long Game 44: Shadows of Elantris Redux
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A substantial crowd had formed in the Court to hear the Patriarch's announcement. Supposedly, Seinalan was the chosen vessel of Merciful Domi, his representative on Earth. Sheodan had never followed the Shu-Korath faith. In his youth, there had been no need for any gods save the Elantrians. Love and devotion were all right as far as they went, but they were no match for a city full of divinities. A few lines etched into the air and they could heal the most grievous wounds, create essential goods from nothing, or teleport great distances. Shortly before the Reod, Sheodan had learned that power did not equal wisdom, nor did abundance lead to generosity. Now, Elantris had fallen and Sheodan had found a new faith. Not Shu-Korath, no amount of love and forgiveness would be sufficient to atone for what he'd done. Not Shu-Derethi, as ambition and obedience were too dangerous for one who could not even control himself. The proper method of atonement, he'd decided, was service in devotion to a single cause. Ten years ago, Sheodan had seen firsthand the results of a violent uprising. In Eondel's service, he fought to ensure that no more families would be ripped apart by violence. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Can the Gyorn tell the difference between a normal convert and a player with a Derethi pendant? If a player with a Derethi pendant is made an Odiv and then passes on the pendant, will the Odiv still scan as a convert? Do Korathi and Jeskeri pendants block the priest's ability to determine whether a player is a convert? Do the Seons of poisoned players become corrupted? Will corrupted Seons be rejuvenated if Elantris is restored? Can the Gyorn and Odiv still PM each other if one of them is in Elantris?- 1185 replies

Mid-Range Game 28: Knives in the Dark
Devotary of Spontaneity replied to Elenion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So the Skybreakers killed or helped kill six of the nine evil lives within the first two cycles, and then the village completely failed to kill any evils. Towards the end of the game, the Five Scholars brutally murdered each other instead of finding any Escaped Inmates. Mark up another victory for unified insanity. I think the Skybreakers might have worked better as a neutral faction. If the Skybreakers hadn't won so early, both the village and the Escaped Inmates would have had to chew through 4 lives in order to win, with the scan turning into a kill if Orlok died. As it turned out, the early Skybreaker win turned it into a simplified balanced game. I don't believe the Skybreakers need any other tweak, as their early win was mostly due to the fact that three of their four targets roleclaimed.
